I was wondering while reading the title of this video if this was the story I emailed you guys about. I feel so giddy that it is the story! I knew that it was perfect for your podcast and genre. Twist ending for sure. ❤ Even if it's not from my email, so happy you covered this. 😂
You know what people need? To be fearful for the repercussions of their actions. Don't get me wrong, I'm a great guy (if I'm allowed to say...), you could comfortably leave your children with me for a night out with the husband. I could be trusted with the keys to your house while you're on vacation. But if he shot MY dog, I'd end him and I wouldn't think twice about it. In fact, there might very well be a gunfight on the road right there. By the way, how do you claim self defense when YOU ARE IN A CAR?! The dog isn't coming in dude... This Kay guy sounds like he has little p*nis syndrome. That's what happens when you name your son a girl's name...
Wow, that was something else, and totally unexpected. Before even half way through, I'd basically hung, drawn and quartered Pam and Roger! I can't think of another case that so clearly demonstrates the importance of thorough police work and not falling victim to a blinkered investigation no matter how riveting the circumstantial evidence may appear. That was really fascinating and in the end, I was left smh at yet more shady police intervention, embellishing things to make the evidence fit the story. While they may be right in saying the truth perhaps may never have been revealed had Pam and Roger not been charged and put in prison, I'm stunned (or am I?) that the police would flippantly comment that it all worked out in the end. For who, exactly?? Great coverage, thank you for presenting this interesting case.
Omg as soon as I heard that I ran to the comments to see if anyone else noticed that. That is a weird thing to say in that situation. I have no idea how this is going to turn out, because there are always lots of twists in Casefile podcasts, but that is definitely weird. If this wasn’t a true story I would have laughed.
This case is invaluable as an educational tool to counter tunnel vision. It’s far too easy to listen to a story that is chaotic and implausible and see odd behaviour and just think all your ducks are lined up in a row for a case. The truth is, people remember things inaccurately, act strangely, and there’s no real ‘correct’ way to respond to traumatic situations. It’s something both professionals in the area and crime documentary viewers need to take to heart. Thank you for posting this case.
It's more of a case of why you shouldn't talk to police. The police aren't there to help you or your friend, they're there to pin whatever they can on you, in reality they should've just told the police "i will not talk without a lawyer present" and only spoke when given full immunity. If the police truly want their help they'll give immunity, if the police just want to pin something on them then they aren't going to do that. Even if its in a case involving your own mother and you have information that could lead to the case being solved while you're 100% innocent, you do not talk to the police without a lawyer
@@JimMilton-ej6zi I completely agree. Even if you have nothing to hide, never give them anything without consulting or retaining counsel. Not statements, not electronics, and definitely not polygraphs that mean nothing anyway. Only co-operate to the extent you legally are required to (such as when you’re served with a warrant), and again, immediately talk to legal counsel before consenting to anything that’s voluntary. Police aren’t looking to clear your good name, they’re looking to find the guilty party/parties as efficiently as possible. I’m a forensic scientist but I’m very staunch in my advocacy for innocent people knowing police tactics so they don’t get screwed over.
I've had deja vu over a few RUclipsrs. Mostly Noor Jasmine & Stephanie Soo. I think with NJ she is similar to another RUclipsr, while I know some of Stephanie's videos are re-uploaded from way early on during her career. I just wish RUclipsrs would be honest about re-uploads.
Thanks; good, consistently quality-content. It almost seems like Kay's son was joking during being investigated. ``Blue, fuzzy gloves?'' Maybe, as a suspect, son & girlfriend were planning on telling the truth at the last minute. And with Kay's dog shooting, maybe the dog had bitten someone recently/we don't get any details.
Yes, and if this case shows us anything it's not to jump to conclusions w/o knowing all the facts conclusively. Someone else mentioned that he should have been punished severely for what he did to the dog, and while I agree that cruelty to animals is a crime worthy of severe punishment, I also think a little perspective is required in this instance. Not condoning the shooting of the dog, but I hardly think that compares with what eventually transpired for Kay Mortensen.
You can’t get addicted to weed so that fact is wrong. Weed is used for medication for cancer patients. The fact people call it a gateway drug is also wrong try again.
God, I thought you'd started posting animal cruelty warnings! I'm sick of hearing about animals and children suffering. Take a break from those cases already!
I love your shows. However In this episode you say someone was addicted to Canabis... which is physically not possible... and later on you describe meth amphetamine as a recreational drug... we know that shit is highly addictive... this is seriously confusing. I am an Australian
The brain can become used to being constantly stoned, it becomes the new normal state of being/new baseline level of consciousness. From a neurochemical perspective, your brain & sympathetic nervous system use endocannabinoids for various things. Your brain will eventually stop producing its own & rely entirely on getting it from smoking/using cannabis- this causes a physical withdrawal upon cessation from chronic use. So it can cause physical dependence, & it can certainly cause mental dependence (aka addiction)
“Physically not possible” Yes it is? I know multiple people, including my own brother, who have become dependant on weed in the past. Don’t claim things that quite literally are completely incorrect
Just let us take our pecan pie and leave
Must've been a secret family recipe or something
That part made me laugh out loud.
lmao
Wow! A mind blower. Just proves you can't jump to conclusions or take things at face value. Sometimes the truth IS stranger than fiction.
If the ghost of Kay is reading this: F you for shooting that dog
Relieving yourself on the grave would be an insult to the excrement
My father in law has been murdered and i was tied up but im missing dancing with the stars. What a disaster. Really?
Spoiler: sometimes innocent people act guilty. I thought for sure the son and daughter-in-law did it.

I can't stand animal abusers. He should have gotten a far worse punishment for what he did to that dog. 😡
I agree! Whether he's innocent of the original charge.
my thought exactly
Agreed. 120% agreed
Thank you for mentioning it. I cannot view this episode.

Now my Saturday morning is fantastic. 🙏 Casefile😊
"Let us take the pecan pie and just leave.."😂😂😂😂😂
"You can leave with your life... IF you leave the Pie" 😂
I know right? Some of this story was just plain weird, not matter the truth!!
😂
Thats one hell of a pecan pie recipe😂
I hope nothing happens to my mother because I couldn't shed a tear for that woman if I tried, I'd look very suspicious.
Me too.
You'd look more suspicious if you went to funeral
That’s crazy. I wonder why. I can’t imagine life without my mother.
I was sympathetic up until the anecdote about the Great Dane. Oh well, too bad for him I guess. Frankly the whole family sounds terrible.
Except for Roger's wife.
"Let us take our pecan pie, and leave." No? Ok Ok! Keep the pie!

Love you Casefile - Thank-you!
Just listening to the first 5 minutes I thought I had it all figured out. What a twist
Thank you Casefile, love ya.......you the best ☆☆☆
They seemed guilty to me,glad the real criminals were found out.
Yeah we all love you JB !!
....hopefully we all dislike those lowlife animal abusers... Slack effers.. Take care >8-D
Wow. With the twists and turns of this case, it would make a good movie script!
The prequel could be called "Mormon with a Machine Gun"
23:38 this narrator is so good, great bit of acting here (back to listening now)
Thanks Matey 👍
This is so messed up! I have no words...

Finally, a hashtag that we can all support 😂
There's nothing more American than 'bonding over firearms' 🙄🥴😅
I remember this case. I was living in Salt Lake city at the time.
Wow. Thank you for sharing this.
The saddest part is that they would've probably never ended up in jail if they refused to talk to the police.
Its terrifying knowing how many people look up, talk and believe they get a reply but the same act lands others in a padded room.
Many thanks, this was great.
"Just let us take our pecan pie and leave".
The things we do for love.
Wheres my pecan pie??
That couple confused me in their story... how did they know the perpetrators bowed their heads if they were blindfolded?
Is this a reupload or am I having a weird case of de ja vu? 🤔 Either way I'll enjoyed it again. 🙂

"Things turned out okay..." I think not. A family was destroyed in so many ways.
Why are they so quick to make adjustments to sentences? Surely both these 2 could both have been sentenced thoroughly with all the evidence
Kay's son and Pamela??? They're innocent.
Let us take our pecan pie and just leave 🤔. How important was this pie?

Love that cop at the end giving a shithead response.
Does anyone know why I am not seeing new episodes on apple podcast? the last case I can see is from April 2023
Did you ever do an episode on Karen Silkwood?
Is it possible he got punched in the face while trying to do a karate pose?
A man named Kay? Just when u think you have heard them all.
IM IN UTAH a case in Utah wow
Addicted to cannabis? Seems strange that a woman in this one was called "he" a few times.
Your right.
Too bad the police messed this up and ruined their family relationships
