I had a very unique experience at this park. A very nice employee gave us a free tour on a golf cart all around the park and behind Rampage. He even took us through the whole queue of the abandoned rapids and told us some history of the park. He said the owner wanted to replace the rapids with a giant water coaster like mammoth to break its record, but we’ll see if that ever happens lol. Just one more slightly large coaster would do wonders for bringing coaster enthusiasts from everywhere, and there’s loads of potential for expansion all around the park
I remember going here when it was still visionland and have been multiple times since. The first time I went back and it was called Alabama splash adventure, my family and I were shocked at how much was gone.
Great review! Although this park is my home park, and the pieces for a new slide have been sitting behind the first rampage turnaround for about 3 years.
I did not know we had this in Alabama but to be fair I have only lived in Alabama since November. Thank you. I was planning a trip to Florida or Georgia with my family this Summer but we are definitely going to check this out. Thank you!
@@CanobieCoaster The rampage definitely looks like fun, but the waterpark has convinced us that staycation this summer sounds like a great idea since we would be saving more than traveling to Florida. Thank you again for your informative review.
It’s worth the money, me and my gf went today and had a blast, they have season tickets which are a little bit more than the normal tickets but it’s worth it and you can go anytime from the month they open to the month they close which i believe is May to September, one season ticket is $109
I live in Birmingham and went there - Alabama Adventure - with a friend back in early May of 2011 and had an absolute blast! Especially on the roller coaster and I loved it! Ironically this was right after when the deadly tornado ripped through the Bessemer area which also affected Birmingham. But I still had fun. I actually had plans for opening weekend there that year but that was exactly when the tornado hit.
I have only had the one visit, in June 2020, on a Saturday. Lines were not an issue then, and Upsurge was allowing single riders during that time. I need to get back for more Rampage rides, as I was very impressed with it. It might be my favorite CCI. Both shows were very entertaining. The dive show uses a lot of the same bits as the one at Holiday World. My main problem with getting back there is their limited season. I typically want to use my summer vacation time for the more northern parks, then I'll do SFOG/Dollywood/Florida this time of year, but Alabama Adventure is closed. It does make sense, since the waterpark is their main attraction, but I'm rarely passing through when they're open.
Being an enthusiast and living in Birmingham, I’ll say Alabama Adventure is really good for what it is. Could there be more? Yes but getting both the water park and the rides’ side for the price they charge is a nice deal (and with the benefit of free drinks and sunscreen). I had the pleasure of working there for a couple months as a ride op and I had a great time! Obviously they don’t have the budget of a chain park but they don’t really need to. I will say it’s quite a shift of home parks going from Cedar Point to Alabama Adventure haha! But we do have Rampage which is a really good coaster, and it’ll be even better as they’re retracking it for the 2025 season. A great and very accurate review from you and good to hear other perspectives on my home park👍
@@CanobieCoaster With it being closed for all of this season, I’d be willing to guess most if not all of it. I never minded it being a little rough but I would always hear people there say it’s too much for them. That one part about halfway through the ride is pretty bad but the rest of it was fine for me. At the very least, they’ll retrack that one section. And at most, they’ll just do the whole thing or like 90% if I had to guess
They had a rollercoaster called Boomerang that was the only other ‘big’ coaster, it was a steel coaster that would break down constantly. They used to have a ferris wheel too, there was a ton of rides on the ‘dry side’ (as we’d call it) but it seems like they’ve taken it all down. I haven’t been since like the early 2010s, lived around Birmingham my whole life and can count on one hand how many times we’ve been.
This does look like a nice fun amusement park, but I'd probably wait a few more years for them to add a few more rides before going. As of now, Tropic Falls on the Gulf Shore looks more interesting, especially after adding their new indoor waterpark. Speaking of which, have you been to Tropic Falls yet?
I only did the dry park, back in March 2022. Rampage is by far the best ride in Alabama, and that park has more natural beauty surrounding, but Tropic Falls is a more complete park, especially when considering just the dry park.
this was my home park growing up! and I remember they ran the music express so fast I came off shaking. it was like the european fair circuit… and I was 8
Wow. I lived right by this for 3 years and had absolutely no clue it was there. To be fair, I was off the I65 not I20. I saw your comment that you haven't been to Tropic Falls/OWA yet. I went and the main coaster is ROUGH. I could only ride it once. And unfortunately, the wild mouse was closed because of rain. It was very clean, but empty and I don't want to pay to go again, but I guess I have to in order to get the credit. Too bad they closed the wooden roller coaster at Waterville USA. I never rode it because I was too cheap as a kid, but I regret it now. I went to Waterville 10 times or so because I lived near it.
This park is similar to lake winnie in that you really have to go and do both the water park and the amusement side in order to get your money's worth out of it. Go for the water park and catch a few rides on the coasters on the way out is what we usually do. The current ownership has done a great job building up the water park and is slowly but surely bringing back the amusement park. This park is 10 times better now than it was when the current owners took over operations. Definitely headed in the right direction.
@@CanobieCoaster that's true but it's over an hour drive for us, so to be worth the drive we do both. You can do the dry park in an hour. Although you could probably do the dry park in Alabama in 15 mins. 😂
I remember when it was called Visionland. They really advertised it on local TV a lot. I honestly forgot that they did eventually reopen and change the name.
I have photos of me in Visionland when i was like 2. i havent been there since and only live around 40 minutes away, not for lack of wanting to. Just haven't made time. Also, you're right about most of thinking it was still just a water park.
If you had to choose one Would you prefer Lake Winnie or Alabama Adventure? On the one hand Rampage is probably better than Cannon Ball but the flat ride collection is way better at Winnie.
They did have a Ferris wheel but they removed it and now where it used to be is the rocket racer and the seats for the Ferris wheel are around the park
I'm two hours south of this place and lived here my whole life. This is the first time I've ever heard of this place. They probably should invest in some advertising.
They advertise around Birmingham a good bit with TV ads and billboards along 65 and I-20 but I doubt they have it in the budget to advertise too much outside of the metro area.
The last time I visited this park, one of the employees at the top of a slide told me he wouldn't let me go down the slide unless I took my tankini top off. I wasn't going to expose by breasts to be able to go down a slide. I will never return to this park.
@@CanobieCoaster There were other women that had gone down previously wearing similar tops. It was likely because I am a transgender woman that he singled me out and refused to let me slide.

It's unfortunate the amusement park was gutted years ago, but I hope they can rebuild it.
I’m not sure if you have noticed this but the very first half of Rampage really reminds me of the first half on GhostRider!

Lake Winnie if you care more about the overall park experience. Alabama Adventure if you're a major wood coaster and/or water park fan.
Rampage is a great coaster. Its sad this park never took off
The coaster alone makes this park worth visiting for me.
I agree. I absolutely loved it
The coaster was my favorite part about my time at that park!

i live 30 mins away from this park, and instead usually go to six flags over ga bc it’s so much better

I go to this water park all the time. It’s pretty fun! But once on Upsurge I fell off the float and almost flew off the water slide
Oh my!
