Love your sense of humor. And I appreciate that you don't condescend to new shooters in your videos. I've just been having a polite back and forth with some '"advanced" photographers in a landscape photography forum about the idea that A and S priority modes are also only for beginners and your ultimate goal should always be to progress to full M mode if you want to be taken seriously. I say rubbish, so long as you understand how exposure works and can control your camera in manual if needed, priority modes can in fact free you up to focus on composition more.
I appreciate what you were doing in the video, encouraging less experienced photographers by pointing out how auto mode can be used, but by tweaking all the settings via the options, you basically overrode auto mode. And that is certainly OK, but I propose that it would be just as easy to learn the basics of the exposure triangle and white balance which is transferrable knowledge to other cameras. Learning the various tweaks adjustments for one brand of camera is still somewhat limiting whereas learning how "not to use auto" is broadly transferrable. Interesting video and certainly worth doing and glad to see you back.

Cotton cold and clammy when sweaty - as already mentioned, try lightweight merino wool underwear. I'm in Australia and wear it all year round.

Damned clever these new fangled machines!

Welcome back Craig, of all the youtubers I’ve always thought you have the best “eye” for a good shot and I like that you do things a little differently. Ironically though, I think your video proved that auto mode needs a hell of a lot of altering to get the ideal settings and to my mind I think you pushed more buttons than using Ap priority and altering ISO!

It’s great to see you back, and I missed you and your wonderfully simple but well thought out photography. You offer something different to everyone else, but very few people have a CV to match yours. I’ll be honest I have no idea how much I can tailor my auto modes on any of my Canon digital, but I do use it on my EOS 5 with FP4+ as it gives me more to play around with in the darkroom. It’s my only analogue camera that has an auto. A brilliant video as always, and looking forward to your next...whenever it appears.

Welcome back Craig! Thanks for the awesome video yet again. I had a suggestion for a future video - Glidecams, how effective they are and if they are worth the money. Since "Flycams" which are cheaper than the original Glidecam comes in at 200 USD, is it a good investment to make for stable, almost gimbal like videos or is it more of a toy used in a very niche market?

Good to see you back. Interesting vlog, I live in Ambleside so Todd Crag which you were on is my after tea walk and you are the first person I know that didn't give it a Wow. Re using auto, on the whole they do a good job, but as you had to change apperture (and then ISO) was it really auto?

Great that your back, love the humour. I use iauto for hand held internal shots when travelling but noise can be a problem. Understand what your at for beginners but feel that I might be simpler to learn manual or ap. It's so long ago but I learnt from cameras with no auto settings so maybe I'm out of touch? 😂

Great stuff Craig. I too have missed you. I've never seen anyone do a vlog on using the camera in AUTO mode, so well done for finding something unique. Merino wool indeed is the answer. Warm in the cool, cool in the heat and never smells. Used a single shirt trekking for 2 weeks in Nepal earlier in the year and it did not smell at the end.

Welcome back Craig. 😀 Not sure why you don't like the grand vista views that being up a hill doesn't float your boat but each to his own I suppose. I got into landscape photography through walking so I suppose that is why I love those views, I wish I was fit enough these days to get up those hills as I used to. I used to love the colourful sunrise/sunset shots but these days I find I am far too lazy to get out for the colourful images..lol. Although you used auto mode your camera had adjustable parameters so really it wasn't auto as such ? Mind, I think your talk through of how you adjusted those settings was very useful to those that are looking to shoot landscapes helped. I had a look on my little mirrorless to see if the green auto had adjustable bits but alas it didn't.

Enjoyable video. Most of the adjustments you made were intuitive (like “blur” vs “sharp” instead of opening/closing the aperture). I do wonder, though, whether a beginner would think of using “blurred motion” to keep the ISO low (as “blurred motion” is not something you are trying to achieve, but just happens to give you the desired result because there is little motion in the picture and the camera is on a tripod). And if you’re not a beginner, you’d just use P, A or M and set the ISO to the base ISO...
@@e6Vlogs merino wool is not the same as regular wool. I'd highly recommend base layers from icebreaker. Been wearing one 7 days in a row on a hiking tour in Norway, no itch, no smells...
Maybe an idea for a next video: shoot some landscapes with the Canon G7X and compare the results to the output of the E-M1. I wonder if the difference will be noticeable. (The deeper depth of field caused by the smaller sensor size would not be a problem when shooting a landscape. So we’re left with the size of the pixels and things like dynamic range. And the fact that you cannot easily use filters on the G7X...)

Use TPE (The Photographer's Ephemeris) or Photo Pills to map out and plan Sunsets........ and sunrise, moon rise, milky way, etc etc

Just do what most 'landscape guys' do, f/8 or f/11 and scroll the shutter speed til the exposure looks to your taste. Boom job done haha.
