@Chelline R. If that's what you took from this review, then I think it's safe to say that your opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. But hey, if you had your head up Square's ass any further you might be able to find those missing final fantasy characters, so more power to ya.
I think Disney is hands down the biggest reason for KH3 not living up to what it could have been. The randomly thrown in ride attractions that are never explained in any way and seems more like Sora is just hallucinating their existence, plus they make an easy combat system even easier. The Disney worlds were the worst worlds. Frozen was a disaster with an incoherent story without prior knowledge of the movie. Tangled felt like Sora was just unnecessary, he was there just to bodyguard them from the heartless as they went and did everything they did in the movie. Davy Jones: "Stay out of this boy" seems to be the general idea of Disney towards Sora. Olympus was a better world by far, but ultimately still fell back on a movie plot. Also Sora never feels necessary in half the worlds. When you want Sora there most, he's missing. When Anna freezes herself to save Elsa, Sora's shooting the shit with Larxene in some time bubble until Hanz's heartless attacks. In Tangled all the characters are in the tower at the end, and a lot of stuff happens in that room, but no Sora to help, he just comes by later to fight the heartless....seems like a pattern. After the Davy Jones fight if I remember correctly it all pretty much happens like the movie with minimal Sora involvement. Big hero 6 felt like Sora had the best presence out of all the Disney worlds (except maybe Olympus), but it was also the shortest world in the game, outside of Winnie the wow you fucked this up. My conclusion is this: Disney as a company has changed, no longer giving artistic freedom to Square for use of their characters, and instead forcing them to reanimate movies and not incorporate Sora in them hardly at all.
@@manuelpatino7863 I didn't argue relevance, but effort. It's amazing how well it was reproduced. Makes no difference in the overall story, but it's impressive nonetheless.
Kye Dysarthria Namura was less involved in this one, he basically entirely stopped working on it for awhile and left it to another team so he could work on FFXV.
Late reply, but i wouldve much more preferred if the game provided helpful tips or advice on combat through the kingstagram loading screen. Or maybe at the very least an online function where you can share and view helpful tips or memes with other players.
The best part about the kindgdom hearts saga is thinking that if Xemnas was just an anagram of Ansem with an X in it, we could've had a character called MANSEX
Its funny how there are billions of comments "predicting the salty fanboys will come" and like no comments of actually crazy fans. Congragulations you played yourself
I kept dying to one of the mandatory ship fights in the Caribbean, so I did what I normally do when I'm stuck in a game and go play something else. Namely, KH2. Now I'm in Land of Dragons and I don't want to stop this is my fourth playthrough of the game in three years send help
@trollnumber420 69 dont know what bullshit you are talking. kingdom hearts 2 was good. but kingdom hearts 1 had far better story. in kingdom hearts 2 the story became weird.
It was done at the last minute. The original arendale stage was mewnt to coincinde with frozen 2 but Disney stepped in and didn't want spoilers. Hence why most of the world is climbing an empty mountain and a shoehorn song to capitalize on its popularity/ kill time.
Tetsuya Nomura stated that he didn't think that the KH series needed FF characters but wasn't completely opposed to adding them in future installments. That statement alone shows that Nomura doesn't understand the product he created anymore.
I get FF characters didn’t had much appearances in most of the games but and this is a big BUT the Main Games 1, 2 and 3, FF characters are side characters. If he thinks that FF characters didn’t had much in the series THEN PUT FF WORLDS IN KH! I’m sorry but Nomura just pisses me off now with all the random decisions he’s been making.
@@Rodolphin I'm paraphrasing here, but what Nomura stated (which you can find here: www.usgamer.net/articles/kingdom-hearts-3-final-fantasy-tetsuya-nomura-news-e3-2018) is that he saw the FF characters as much-needed side characters in the first installments because the original characters weren't developed yet. But, as the original characters developed over time, he felt that the FF characters weren't needed to back up the original characters anymore. Personally, that's all fine and good for Nomura to think whatever he thinks... but KH start off as a cross-over between Disney and Final Fantasy, so clearly Nomura has ideas that don't jive with the original premise of KH. You can see as much with how much Nomura was hinting at the next KH game in KHIII, how many Chekov's guns he's prepped but never fired, how many cliffhangers he's left behind. Nomura is pretty infamous for doing things on a whim, so clearly he was paying more attention to the horizon than the path right under his feet during the development of KHIII.
Nah, They were high expectations surrounding the game that definitely affects the satisfaction you get. I mean.. the reviewer played the previous games. Maybe get a review from a someone who never played it or better yet someone who never even heard it.
@@jeromealday614 I played all kh games and only expected kingdom hearts 3 That's all My only hype was "yes it's coming!!!" Not to be arrogant but that puts me in a higher place than most khfans that had a ton of unrealistic over hyped expectations And then go into hypocrite mode praising kh1 and kh2 as if they were perfect games Ignoring their flaws and threating the gameplay as if it wasn't easy either in critical mode
@@jeromealday614 I don't get the response of "Nah" I'm probably overthinking this, but a flawed game can only be seen as worse when overhyped. If someone had to experience kingdom hearts, and had to review the game they would be confused by the story and would probably still find many of the same flaws. Unfortunately it makes sense that it was overhyped. Kingdom hearts is a series that's been with some people for most of their life. It's been going for over a decade. Because of this and the insistence on not making main entry games (at least with titles that make them seem like main entries) builds expectation. Even worse some people are emotionally attached to the series and refuse to accept faults. But on the other side of the coin, some people see Kingdom Hearts as too long and expect that the side games aren't important or can be skipped due to releasing on many different consoles. Point is KH3 is flawed, it's hard to argue otherwise. However, what's easy to argue (and a more interesting topic) are the flaws that people perceive and the impact the flaws have on their experience and view of the game.
Jerome Alday I did. They hated it. Because of the horrible pacing, the bad and awkward line deliveries and more. In fact the people who know what to expect from a KH game but were not hyped (me) were giving it better reviews than people who disliked it from what I’ve heard. What I’m saying is: the fans were more favorable even when they think they have a controversial opinion and give it like a 7/10
@@jeromealday614 That would likely have the opposite result of what you seem to be expecting given the most common defense I've heard of this game, which it's fine for people to enjoy (as long as they don't try to lie that it has good story/plot/writing), is that "it's a game meant for fans". That defense--whatever one thinks of it--is basically saying that it's a game *meant* to be difficult for newcomers to get into, which while a weak defense to me *is* at least true in the sense that there are several ridiculously convoluted tie-ins that came before it. So given the level of unnecessary convolution, I highly doubt that summations given at the beginning of _KH3_ itself actually negate that feeling of confusion for the people who would be trying to get into the game with this installment that's supposed to be the finale of 15-year saga. Personally, I honestly can't imagine any person new to the series who starts with this game growing to really like it or the series as whole unless perhaps they're just one of those people who likes to be extremely powerful in games from the get-go and/or only really care about flashy visuals. That said, we can at least agree that a long build-up of hype can create (unrealistically) high expectations. At the same time, however, I'm pretty sure the long wait is neither the primary problem with this game nor among the main reasons that various people are panning it or at least point out where it's (greatly) flawed. This especially when one of the most common complaints I've seen is that, ironically, it still feels rather rushed after 13 years (because it likely still was given Nomura's incompetence at least pacing in addition to writing).
Also Donald fucking obliterated Terranort... Yeah, not even in your wildest dreams did you imagine that happening. ZETTAFLARE!! Higher than Mega, Giga, Tera and even Exaflare!!
I liked the game, but it feels like it was gutted at some point during development. The lack of a midpoint in the game is so jarring, it feels borderline unfinished really. *SPOILERS.* It’s pretty obvious that Scala ad Caelum was planned to be a full world early in development, but somewhere along the line, whether it be from rushed development or Square Enix’s management problems, they scrapped that idea. Remember back when that world was “Cable Town,” with the trailer only a select group of people saw? Well there was gameplay of that place being an actual world, including footage of Sora walking around the room seen during the chess cutscenes (that would have been awesome). Also, can’t forget that Mysterious Tower used to be playable at some point, and it’s likely that would’ve been in Twilight Town as well. Radiant Garden is *also* suspiciously present despite not being playable.
Blaze Redraw I really doubt it in this case. Disney may have a lot of sway when it comes to dictating what goes on the the Disney worlds but that’s it.
@@christopheradams9173 Square doesn't really have much power regarding that. Especially since Disney could always threaten them. Even so, I don't recall that quote from Square.
no, actually by Data Mining you can find fully modeled FF characters like Cloud, Leon and Yuffi it's just that Namura didn't know how to include them into the plot
So it seems like everyone in general really doesn't like Kingdom Hearts 3, they still say that it has solid gameplay and great graphics, but its just that they were hoping for more.
Ironically that's kind of what I have with the problem of dream drop distance too... At the worlds were very fun to play with, gameplay was pretty solid with the whole dream eater stuff, the game looks pretty decent in the HD remaster, sora even interacts with the Disney characters in a more meaningful way here especially with the return of the Tron world, but yeah.... The story is probably the most stupid out of all the KH games. 3 being similar in that the gameplay is pretty good, not as good as dream drop distance but pretty good. Graphics are pretty amazing, love all the attention to detail here. But yeah mostly the same problem with the DDD story, nonsensical. And seeing as this is the final game for a SAGA? Just disappointing.
Square can't blame anyone but themselves for the hype. They marketed this game to hell and back, but I'm not supposed to be hyped? Bullshit. And let's be real, hype didn't kill this game, Kingdom Hearts 2 killed this game. Mostly since it was better in pretty much every way gameplay and story-wise. It's only natural we'd expect a better game over a decade later on vastly superior hardware with a lot more budget and time poured into it.
Thank you! I felt after beating KH3 that it felt (gameplay wise) like it should have been before 2. 2 feels stronger narratively and gameplay wise. Entire time through game I was thinking to myself that this game just doesn't make me want to pick it up again. 2, even in vanilla form, always made me want to replay it for the story or gameplay. KH3 just misses it.
@DarkSonic180 "Beat it on Proud and it’s still press X to win"......with that reasoning then all kingdom hearts games are shit because there's some degree of truth to this with EVERY KINGDOM HEARTS GAME
or maybe he was talking about the non final mix version of kh2 which has all of the same problems kh3 has while being a worse game. 2fm is what added all the postgame and rebalanced the difficulty. hell, i think even the international version of kh2 had more content than the JP only version did at launch.
Don't worry we'll have "Kingdom hearts 3.08/42*7: The Quest for More Ingredients: Final Super Special Platinum Remix Edition" to hold us up till then....shame it's going to be exclusive to the google car though...
I didn't like the disney aspect at all in this game. I was always kind of in it for the plot, but the disney aspects never seemed to give me a headache like in this game. (Especially the frozen level) Then when it did come to the plot they just threw it all at you at once at the end with the boss rush that just made the whole experience feel underwhelming. Maybe I'm just getting too old lol
You raise some excellent points, a few of which I agree with wholeheartedly! I kinda feel like KH3 was a big ol' mess, but in a way: it's my big ol' mess where I cried at the end because I've been with it since I was 5 years old. It's not what any of us wanted or even expected, but that's also why I love it.
@davey "Even though I never played it and never played KH1 and KH2". Then you have your answer ahah. But for real the pacing is quite intense in KH3. Twilight Town arc was really scrapped. Also it's really sad that we can't explore Radiant Garden. I still like it, but there is a lot of rushing.
it would have been cool to have them battle you like in KH 2 or in BBS that you fought the organization and Vanitas multiple times but they just come and go in every world and that's it in every world
This is how I felt playing the game. What bothered me the most was the story exposition told E N T I R E L Y through conversation. This game was one huge wrap up, which is good (god knows they dont need to add anything else to this convoluted plot) but executed so poorly. Also I hated how the Disney worlds had nothing to do with the story! Sora was literally being sent out to "become stronger" and what tiny, vague plot points came up were confusing and Sora's reactions felt silly. Like, isn't this boy supposed to be 16 by now? Why is he more naive and innocent than EVER BEFORE. I loved the game while I was playing it, ignoring how lame the characters were acting and the nonexistent plot progression, and straight up SOBBED during the ending, but after sleeping on my excitement, I realized it definitely left much to be desired.
Not leaving an angry comment, but rather an off-topic one: did you know that Caddicarus did a whole video bashing US game covers... _... without saying anything about Kirby?!_
Caddy has poor tastes in PS1 game covers... he was also dumbfounded why the game Tomba was called Tomba in North America rather than Tombi like the PAL regions, but Tomba is name of the game for both Japan and North America, and that is called Tombi in PAL regions because Tomba means "grave" in parts of Europe. Also Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer is an awful title, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! is way better.
Matth eus The "other way around" examples he provided at the end of the video weren't PS1 games. Besides, Caddy is not *100%* PS-centric. Kirby was the epitome of the topic of his video.
As someone who actually liked this game, I must say that I still agree with everything said here. It was good to see a reviewer who actually played all the games, knew the franchise, and gave thoughtful criticisms that made sense, unlike some reviewers on RUclips who knew they would be confused going in blind and then blamed the game for their confusion anyway. Despite all its flaws, I enjoyed this game too much to think it is “rough” but I can clearly see why people were disappointed. Really good review!
Yea the whole story is confusing mess meme never register to me until the mess that was KH3 rush ending. I pretty much could understand almost everything the game threw at me and was never really confuse. Hell even with studying pretty much every other KH game I didn't play had to offer I still understand pretty much everything that going on. KH3 scratch that let just bring back people for no reason fight them again in super easy mode in group section. Let the defeated one have a one on one talk with Sora and who ever with him at time rather then attacking him as a group like we were. etc etc. You get my point.
The best part about Donald always bringing up the ingredients is that he'll do it even before you meet Remmy. So going blind, he's whining about food every three minutes and I'm just left wondering what the hell he's talking about. 0.o
I learned to love this game over the past few weeks. Did the game at level 1, Xehanort was really the only roadblock Sora having Ragnarok as his starting Shotlock implies that he was doing them the entire time... And I kinda hate that
@@mrps2dvd2770 A Side Scrolling Shoot em up on the PS1 they made which is pretty good. The game is also referenced in World of Final Fantasy with the main aircrafts making an appearance in Tidus' Story.
the fact of the matter is, if i could pay only like 30$ and get the last world and cutscenes only i would cause that is literally the only part of the game that mattered.
Despite the divide in opinion about this game at least we can all gather together in our mutual anger at the potential Nomura missed with Kairi. Also we can call these opinions subjective all day long but for the most part I hear a lot of people saying the same thing as far as criticisms are concerned. All of these people can't be wrong and cant be KH2FM "elitists".
SuperfluousStuckupitude I going to have to say no I have never kairi was be useful mostly because she never went on a true journey until now and she goes right for the boss fight possibly at an low level with less experience then everyone there and little training under her belt she was go to fail and we got to see her fight much since kingdom heart 2 and now to see if made any difference
@@flamingfistproduction5895 honestly I agree with you. I am of the belief she did more than what people give her credit for. Hell sora wouldnt even be alive if it wasnt for her, twice over in fact. Plus people are expecting a person who has no combat experience on the actual battlefield to just be experts all of a sudden. My main problem is that once again she was regulated to being used for man-pain. To be used to motivate the male main character regardless of the fact that he was already motivated. All that being said they also built her arc to be her finally getting a chance to fight and what do they do with her? They kill her, just so sora can have an excuse to be pissed off and also to justify that bittersweet ending.
@@flamingfistproduction5895 true, but her death was unnecessary. xigbar is proof that you don't have to die to forge a fake no name keyblade. also, she took her kidnapping lying down. belle escaped xaldin by elbowing him in the gut. she could've kicked his left shin or switched her keyblade to her left hand and swung at xemnas. it doesn't even matter whether that would work or not. she would've still shown defiance. kairi could've fought valiantly like lea then got her ass kicked bad enough to forge a no name, but no. he failed to show any form of agency; *defiance.*
no Final Fantasy you say...? [SPOILERS] Looks like from a secret ending, "Yozora", Final Fantasy Versus XIII (the unmade final fantasy game of years ago) will become part of the Kingdom Hearts storyline, plus more from "The World Ends with You" introduced in Dream Drop Distance
I honestly still cant believe how petty nomura was to pull that versus 13 bullshit in KH3? Like nobody cares about your failed projects dude. I'm too busy trying to kill Olaf.
your not alone man. the thing that killed it for me was the lack of final fantasy characters and disney worlds as well as some missing story driven worlds. in the past games the disney stuff came together with the main plot but here its its own thing and its bad. i just flew through the game just to get to the end. kh3 starts when you get to the keyblade graveyard. oh and the god awful scripted dialogue is terrible too.
SvenCakemann I suppose so, but the real problem with kh3’s story are things like Kairi, and they would have to rewrite the entire end of the story to fix her
@@demise1519 I disagree, I think everything that happened was great and has no need of change (well, except the scene where Terranort beat them all up, that could use a redo) They just need more development on Kairi and other aspects before the finale, something that could be added, won't hold my breath though.
*Just got done watching johnny’s video of KH3* Alright now I can a bre- *Antdude literally uploads his KH3 video just seconds after* (deep breaths) Sigh
Well can't argue with the subjective flaws as I was looking at it through a different experience. I basically already knew (never spoiled the story for myself mind you) that the story wouldn't pick up again until the worlds were cleared. I was more interested in HOW these worlds were put in and while Tangled, Frozen, and Pirates were almost exactly the same as the movies, I can at least see why they were put in and the other worlds... probably my favorite in the series for giving us new adventures with these characters and fitting into the whole "hearts" theme practically flawlessly. I'll save my disappointment on the ending whenever I get my review done for it.
Seems to me Kingdom Hearts III just suffered the same fate FFXV did when it came to actually coming out as a consistent product through and through due to it's arduously long development cycle... one could hope some things could be fixed with a Final mix that they'll definitely end up doing probably but who knows.
Honestly, I can understand your opinion. I still liked Kingdom Hearts 3, but I am someone who has and continues to be emotionally invested in this franchise and managed to just be happy the game finally came out. Kingdom Hearts 3 was just another Kingdom Hearts game, and I loved it for that, but it didn't do anything more.
N- Riv doesn’t that suck though? Like, you said you’re happy JUST because the game finally came out. That’s not what a consumer, especially someone like us who has invested years into the franchise, should be feeling. I want a complete, fleshed out experience, not a product that is rushed. Because that’s what this feels like: a rushed experience with little post content to keep me coming back.
Fernandov125 honestly there was no way the game would have done everything right. I would just rather be happy with what it did give us rather than be upset over what it didn’t. Personally I just wanted to have some fun times on the game and see the story finish. Do I have issues with how certain things were handled? Yes, but again, we’ve been waiting 6 years for this game. You can either be disappointed that it didn’t meet your expectations, or try and look at what we got and see the good. I just like to appreciate the good
@@XFR18 bbs and ddd did NOT have more diversity than KH3. At this point you're just being a blind hater. The game has a lot of flaws but your arguments can be used against the entire series.
I love this game but I have 5 complaints. Twilight town got shafted 100 acre woods got shafted No mid game original world (like hollow bation) Pacing And it's too easy I'm sure critical mode Free updates And dlc Can easily fix these things.
It was because Normua thought they weren't needed anymore stating that he felt that the characters could stand in their own now. Of course this doesn't make sense seeing as how KH was always supposed to be a crossover game between Disney and Final Fantasy.
@@TheEvilLordExdeath I still really liked it. It's by no means a BAD game. Playing through it a second time at the moment, actually. But man, I missed seeing Cloud, Sephiroth, Squall, etc... I hope they're back in the next release.

@@TheBlueLink3 Cause he's literally a selt-insert in this game. In other titles, it felt like that, but lots of the stories we're re-rwritten to fit not only Sora, but the foundation of the KH story. In this game, Sora is just straight-up sitting idle while watching Frozen and Tangled movies.

@@infinityzombi6287 and for the other worlds, (aside from the caribbean, and even then it is important) he interacts directly with an entirely new plot that matters for the story
I definitely agree with you here. I haven't finished the game yet, but Sora is just way overpowered with non canon explanation and the worlds shouldn't have been completed in one visit because they tend to drag by the end. Except the Pirates world, that one kicks ass.
Well it's better to start off with a powerful character, then having that character to be totally weak and disregard the combat development from prior games ( cough God of War).
There's at least one major point that this video glosses over, and that's the setup for KH4. This game is meant to be the grand finale to Xehanort's saga, but rather than focus on that, they spend a good chunk of the run time setting up for a sequel that may or may not get made. I wish they had just focused on making THIS story as good as it could be, and leaving the foreshadowing for the epilogue.
I really liked KH3 but its nowhere near as good as KH2FM. Hope they release a FM dlc for this game along with a New Game+ and other improvements. Also poor kairi..
Thats a huge problem seeing as final mix was released a long time ago yet they didnt learn anything from it. I wanted them to build upon 2 final mix not revert back to 1
I waited for Kingdom hearts 3 for 13 years. Ever since the day I beat kh2, and I enjoyed this game a whole lot when it came out. Beat it in less than a month. But I was very disappointed. Good and fun game, but very disappointing. When the Remind DLC came out the game finally felt finished. And critical mode actually added some semblance of challenge. It made the game ten times better in my opinion, but everything in that DLC should have been in the game at launch. It seriously felt like it was supposed to but they cut it to rush the product out. However even with the DLC the pacing, writing, and story are all still seriously lacking.
They NEED to have an ability like the zero exp ability that is given to you from the very start that disables the rides and also one for action commands like donald's flare force (basically stuff that disables the abilities that 1 shots most anything and makes you invincible)
I love Kingdom Hearts 3, I replayed the entire series again to prepare, I wrote a list of unanswered questions I wanted to know the answer to...and then.... A list of 8 questions got one answer and 4 more big questions... Yeah, I agree with everything you said tho, In love the game, but what happened to the Disney bosses, the world revisits, and the FF/TWEWY characters? But overall, I love the game, and hope the Final Mix DLC fills in a lot of the blanks
Namura really fucked up by using Disney worlds that don't play a role in the story, the shitty Disney rides summons, the butchered twilight town and lack or raident garden, the stupid implementation of food, and the worst offender...the LACK OF FINAL FANTASY CHARACTERS. Like what the fuck namura... Most people were more into the ff part then Disney parts as they actually help you in the main story. Namura had 4 years to make this game and he fucked it up. He was the one that HAD to have pixer worlds and in the end he couldn't even make it work.
almost a year later and this review is still fucking Funny and Accurate. Thanks a lot Antdude i feel you are the only reviewer that has express the amount of dissapointment and frustration i felt after 13 years of waiting for KH 3, i am so fucking SICK of the apologist claiming that KH was always like this, that before final mixes the game didnt have any post game (KH 1 North american version says FUCKING HI the only shit final mix added was Xemnas and he was by far the worst secret boss in the game) KH 2 final mix was the ONE THAT WENT FUCKING OVERBOARD. BBS FMILX added Eraqus Armor, No Name and Monstro and That was it and now people claiming that critical mode, a LOT OF EXTRA CUTSCENES like A LOT and story content and lack of final fantasy character is how Final mix has always been? FUCK OFF but anway thank you Ant Dude you we able to express all of this frustration, hate, dissapointmen, despair in a well and very respectful matter which as you can see I CANNOT DO IT.
The only disturbing part of the game is how many things from the UI are choppy... Like... how that Disney and SE logo in title screen spinning looks so disturbing.
i agree with the aqua part. some of these characters should have been saved early on or during the game. roxas should have been the 1st one to be saved. then they wouldn't have needed kairi as one of the lights. then save aqua later on, who can't go to ventus yet because she doesn't know where the master's keyblade went because it's on destiny islands, so she teaches sora some shot lock attacks in the mean time until she finds it. or yen sid could have trained sora and taught him how to summon the disney rides. my main problem was the lack of weapons. there weren't alot of weapons for donald and goofy, and the ones that they did have were just recolors of a weaker version. and i hate the lack of keyblades in this game. i preordered the game from gamestop physically so i didn't get the midnight blue or a dlc keyblade. imagine if gamestop gave out a "power to the players" or a "gamer's heart" dlc keyblade. that would be cool. i'm also upset about the lack of disney worlds and final fantasy characters too. but this was still a good game. just not the best one.
The reason KH3 failed the way it did cause of the one and only reason: Change. It has been 13 years. If this was made in the ps2 era good. Ps3 era, ok. Now, this kind of shit does not fly. Disney has become more protective of their properties to the point were they will take full control or nothing at all. Square enix has lost at least 65% of their dream staff over the years and has become more and more greedy, not giving creative control to those who would benefit it the most. We, as players have grown and changed over the years. We have played games that have done these parts in bigger and better ways. These set pieces, moments, gameplay and story have been done to death. the 13 year wait was a huge blow in its waters and possibly the killing blow in the franchise. The director, whom surprisingly after all this time, was the one whom stayed mostly the same this entire time and that is both a blessing and a curse. All in all KH3 is a damn good game, but not a *GOOD KH* game.
This is my grading of the game: Presentation and Design: 10/10 Feeling of gaining strength as you play the game more: 0/10 (Hell I mean, haven't you seen the no EXP option in the game?) Replay Value: 0/10 Story: 3/10 Overall Grade of the game: F
I bought the entire kingdom hearts franchise recently, as it was on sale for only $30 on the psn store. From the perspective of someone who didn’t have to wait to play KH3, this is probably my favorite game in the series. It’s the most visually stunning, I’m a HUGE fan of the movement options and hack and slash gameplay, and as someone whos not really a square enix fan in the first place and really only got into the series because of the disney properties, I don’t mind the lack of final fantasy representation. My only gripe with the game is they really could have benefited from having sora and the gang return to already finished worlds for one last mission just like in KH2. I also felt like one or two more disney worlds wouldve been nice since I went into the game thinking “I only know about a few of the worlds here so I’m excites to see what they throw at me!” and it turns out I already knew about all the disney worlds except for big her 6.
I think you sum it up just about perfectly. Only thing that you didn’t mention that I think deserves some mentioning is the severe lack of secret bosses and an arena.
How can't anyone not build a hype??? After so many games, so many years and a lot of content to keep up with, one can only expect a great finale and a conclusion! The Marvel movies didn't end after Avengers: End Game. With Kingdom Hearts 3, Kairi is in a deep sleep, Sora in a different reality, Terra, Ven and Aqua traveling in the dark world and new installments are being made for mobile games. It's a huge disappointment! The DLC gives some closure, but at this point I don't feel like playing another 20 hours on a new KH to find out it's not going anywhere.
This looks like a rough spot to find some ingredients

@Chelline R. If that's what you took from this review, then I think it's safe to say that your opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. But hey, if you had your head up Square's ass any further you might be able to find those missing final fantasy characters, so more power to ya.
Disney stated they had WAY more control over KH3 than any other KH game so that explains a lot of the pacing/Disney worlds being the way they were :/
Yeah, apparently Disney was on Square Enix's ass on how accurate some of the Disney properties looked like.
@@SlayerKid To be fair, though, I think the "Let it go" sequence was amazingly reproduced in the game.
@@MarlonMacielBrando Because it's nigh-on 1:1 the EXACT same as in the film. Cutting to Sora like twice does not make it relevant to the game.

Rip Final Fantasy characters in Kingdom Hearts.

Yeah, Antdude's premature reaction to the comments that he barely even received is probably where most of the dislikes come from. Ironic as that is
Hype or no hype, a flawed game is a flawed game.
Nah, They were high expectations surrounding the game that definitely affects the satisfaction you get.
I mean.. the reviewer played the previous games. Maybe get a review from a someone who never played it or better yet someone who never even heard it.
@@jeromealday614 I played all kh games and only expected kingdom hearts 3
That's all
My only hype was "yes it's coming!!!"
Not to be arrogant but that puts me in a higher place than most khfans that had a ton of unrealistic over hyped expectations
And then go into hypocrite mode praising kh1 and kh2 as if they were perfect games
Ignoring their flaws and threating the gameplay as if it wasn't easy either in critical mode

Hello
I liked the game, but it feels like it was gutted at some point during development. The lack of a midpoint in the game is so jarring, it feels borderline unfinished really. *SPOILERS.*
It’s pretty obvious that Scala ad Caelum was planned to be a full world early in development, but somewhere along the line, whether it be from rushed development or Square Enix’s management problems, they scrapped that idea.
Sentimentation maybe something will happen with the eventual final mix

it would have been cool to have them battle you like in KH 2 or in BBS that you fought the organization and Vanitas multiple times but they just come and go in every world and that's it in every world
They focused more on the “Let It Go” scene than the actual game.
That scene was one of the most iconic and the most popular so it makes sense but still don't do dirty to a game like that.

Finally, a video talking about KH3!
But where is the retrospective-like video talking about KH3?
Not leaving an angry comment, but rather an off-topic one: did you know that Caddicarus did a whole video bashing US game covers...
_... without saying anything about Kirby?!_
He talked about ps1 covers, how would kirby even be able to appear on the list?
Caddy has poor tastes in PS1 game covers... he was also dumbfounded why the game Tomba was called Tomba in North America rather than Tombi like the PAL regions, but Tomba is name of the game for both Japan and North America, and that is called Tombi in PAL regions because Tomba means "grave" in parts of Europe.
Also Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer is an awful title, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! is way better.
Matth eus
The "other way around" examples he provided at the end of the video weren't PS1 games. Besides, Caddy is not *100%* PS-centric. Kirby was the epitome of the topic of his video.
Still, Silent Hill's US cover is just a big "what the fucking shit is this"

It was good to see a reviewer who actually played all the games, knew the franchise, and gave thoughtful criticisms that made sense, unlike some reviewers on RUclips who knew they would be confused going in blind and then blamed the game for their confusion anyway.
Despite all its flaws, I enjoyed this game too much to think it is “rough” but I can clearly see why people were disappointed. Really good review!

I just like to appreciate the good
@echo Your joking right?? It’s just like any of the other games in the franchise.
@@XFR18 I feel like some of these can be chalked up as nitpicks. The problems you listed are in ALL Kingdom Hearts games.
@@XFR18 bbs and ddd did NOT have more diversity than KH3. At this point you're just being a blind hater. The game has a lot of flaws but your arguments can be used against the entire series.
I love this game but I have 5 complaints.
Twilight town got shafted
100 acre woods got shafted
No mid game original world (like hollow bation)
Pacing
And it's too easy
I'm sure critical mode
Free updates
And dlc
Can easily fix these things.
And after all that the game is in the same spot it was when it first released
@@billythekid5579 photo mode is cool though
Sully:(holds up the trash cube.)
Donald: This might be a good spot to find some ingredients.
I agree. The whole plot of KH3 is for Sora to "get his power back", yet he's still OP as fuck.
critical
Seriously. My favorite parts of the old games were the FF characters. And this game had none... I just... why? Was there a licensing issue?
It was because Normua thought they weren't needed anymore stating that he felt that the characters could stand in their own now. Of course this doesn't make sense seeing as how KH was always supposed to be a crossover game between Disney and Final Fantasy.
@@TheEvilLordExdeath I still really liked it. It's by no means a BAD game. Playing through it a second time at the moment, actually. But man, I missed seeing Cloud, Sephiroth, Squall, etc... I hope they're back in the next release.
@@kdhamons I never said it was a bad game though some people feel slightly disappointed by it. Despite that though the game is great. I already want the next game.
@@kdhamons Seeing as how the next one seems to be set in revision of Versus XIII, we might at least see characters that are based off of them.
its a good game but kingdom hearts 2 was better in any aspect
Only final mix
Without that
Nah
@DarkSonic180 Logic says otherwise.
@@platinumvoid1648 Can you people just get along jeez!
3 doesnt even come close to 2. 3 is trash
Not in every aspect
I've seen all of these KH videos so many times, but I will never get enough of them. So... what about Melody of Memory...?
Sora is a freaking mary sue in this game, and I hate him more than ever
Same.
How? He constantly has set backs and gets almost beaten several times. Fair enough that he comes through in the end, and can be OP gameplay wise, but nothing to the extent that he is a Mary Sue.
@Jessica j IKR?? sometimes I just wanted to slap the dude through the television screen. I know that sounds kinda harsh, but it was just over the top for me -_-
@@infinityzombi6287 and for the other worlds, (aside from the caribbean, and even then it is important) he interacts directly with an entirely new plot that matters for the story
"We expected Doom 2016, we got Duke Nukem forever."
i still enjoyed it, short as it was.
Kingdom hearts 3 is the best spin off kingdom hearts game they have made yet! can't wait for them to make an actual sequel!
Is that sarcasm or not?
The fragmentary passage game with aqua was better than this and it was only 2 hours long
Kingdom Hearts 3: A CLUSTER FUCK of disappointment and sadness.😧
I'm not angry I'm just disappointed..... That you didn't find the right ingredients.
I definitely agree with you here. I haven't finished the game yet, but Sora is just way overpowered with non canon explanation and the worlds shouldn't have been completed in one visit because they tend to drag by the end. Except the Pirates world, that one kicks ass.
Sora has been killing the darkness for like 5 games bro what r u saying
the pirates world is really cool
Well it's better to start off with a powerful character, then having that character to be totally weak and disregard the combat development from prior games ( cough God of War).
One thing that irked me big time: Why wasn't there someone like Ignis from FFXV as Remy's apprentice or something like that? Would've been cool.
He never once mentioned how Remy is the most powerful Kingdom Hearts character.
The 3 in the name is basically how many hours it'll take you to beat the game's story
Ok, that was brilliant.
@@pedroxruz6032 Thanks I completely work hard on my jokes
All I hear was “hearts” and “darkness” from this game. It’s just corny
In regards to KH3 opinions:

AntDude: True Neutral
Caddicarus: Lawful Good
Super Butter Buns: Chaotic Good.

@@carloskingdomh I think there is some truth to what he reviews is his trolling manner.
@@xilusRipper to that review? Lol not even a single bit of truth, sorry
@@carloskingdomh how so? Speaking like it's a fact.
5:13 Congratulations Sora. You’ve just become a Kingdom Hearts fan.
I really liked KH3 but its nowhere near as good as KH2FM.
Hope they release a FM dlc for this game along with a New Game+ and other improvements.
Also poor kairi..
Thats a huge problem seeing as final mix was released a long time ago yet they didnt learn anything from it. I wanted them to build upon 2 final mix not revert back to 1
Well. That's it for now in the Dark Seeker saga of Kingdom Hearts..
Oh yeah, there's now sagas in Kingdom Hearts apparently
Attraction flows don’t kill everything on level 1 runs.
Re:Mind DLC: Allow me to introduce myself!
No rough, only *Darkness*
Man do I agree with you completely...
The final fantasy IV music playing when you listed all the bad stuff in the game made the mess that was KH3 a bit more bearable
Ric Pendragon Id like to be privy to those questions.
Disney actually had a lot of control over the project and went rather insane. You can see how well that went
Noctis in KH3 would of been sick!
Nomura essentially hijacked another series and inserted Versus 13 into Kingdom Hearts. Absolute madman
I swear you guys have this planned.
almost a year later and this review is still fucking Funny and Accurate.
I so understand your point about Sora suddenly having freaking shot-lock!
Johnny and Antdude uploading a video on the same day on the same game? Aw heck yea!! (Got to the keep comments family friendly now.)
The game is defo rough. Waited so long and it wasnt what I was looking for at all.
The reason KH3 failed the way it did cause of the one and only reason:
Change.
This is my grading of the game:
Presentation and Design: 10/10
Feeling of gaining strength as you play the game more: 0/10 (Hell I mean, haven't you seen the no EXP option in the game?)
Replay Value: 0/10
Story: 3/10
Overall Grade of the game: F
I'd say replay value is at least a 1, it's really fun to just speed through the game on beginner in one sitting
Game is solid. Story is all over the place but still really fun.
I've been waiting for this!!
I also felt like one or two more disney worlds wouldve been nice since I went into the game thinking “I only know about a few of the worlds here so I’m excites to see what they throw at me!” and it turns out I already knew about all the disney worlds except for big her 6.
of course it’s visually stunning the other ones are old ??
