The Middle deserves more attention than it has received but that is what probably has prevented it from becoming redundant or inconsistent. There hasn't been an episode where I stop laughing from start to finish.
Because it was about a white, fairly normal (with some quirks) family. That's why. Modern Family is not nearly as good as The Middle but it won all the awards because it was seen as a progressive show. In fact, I would say The Middle is the best comedy series since Arrested Development.
Yes, it was like the writers were putting our family up there. Putting 1 item on a clean table 💥 clutter galore. Sue forgetting to fill out her college financial help 💥 everyday things that just made us laugh and happy. Oh, shopping for the swimsuit. Had this same experience with my own mother 50 years ago. Such a comfortable show to watch. Thank you all that gave it to us.
The Middle is a funny, thoughtful, quirky show, overshadowed by Modern Family in terms of awards. Among my favorite episodes was A Simple Christmas, when Frankie loses it, Sue gets hit in the face with a snowball while she sings a christmas song. Great show, will miss it for sure.
Just the most talented actor on TV. I hope she has another TV show coming in the future, can’t imagine television with out her. God Bless you for the joy and entertainment you have brought us. I only wish you the best on screen and off.
This is a fantastic conversation- and it underscores for me how under-appreciated Patricia Heaton was for "The Middle." And I love how she went from Debra to Frankie - two completely different characters- and did them both brilliantly.

Today I saw the end of the 9th season, I had to seen that twice and I now that I want to see again :-D well.. I love The Middle, I hope that Sue will spin-off and perhaps the rest of "The Midlle" will sometimes involved, cause it is not so easy to say goodbye to this great show.

I think the Sue and Shawn thing is a lot more special than the Sue and Darrin thing because Sue and Darrin's relationship went way too fast. With Sue and Shawn, you could tell they had a chemistry from the moment she said she had a crush on him (back when she was friends with Carly). I know Darrin wasn't brought up, but because he and Shawn were both friends with Axl, I thought this should just be mentioned.
Catherine Campbell tbh I never liked sue and darrin. Darrin seemed to dumb, he never loved sue, with Sean there is a special connection, he chooses to not make a move because he's a gentleman but darrin wasn't, sue and Sean are meant to be, he loves her, but it's because of axl he wasn't able to confess his feelings, he threw the snow globe and sue found it and she told frankie that she has a special connection to the snow globe, she senses it might be from sean, I love how it is developing slowly
I wouldn't say Darrin didn't love sue. Darrin did the birthday scavenger hunt and he filled her room with balloons. And the fire from the cow during the centennial. He ran to rescue her. I think Darrin was more driven about his job and future that he didn't think of sue's other than him wanting her by his side. Now Sean on the other hand, there was the incident in the pool when he was fake drowning her. But he also liked lexie for a hot second. And Frankie said this season is how Sean is like her bro. Giving a snowglobe doesn't mean love. It's a present she is connected with because he is like her bro. She watched him grow up, date, change his appearance and his life choices. He acted rational with that and the second he got lectured from frankie, he stopped talking about tofu and how the universe is to his life. Sue doesn't need to find someone this last season. She needs to focus on what she told Darrin when she finally rejected his marriage proposal/ planning. She said marriage and love by 27 years old and Darrin said he couldn't wait.
It's a real shame the shows ending. There's more stories that could still be told. Axl having a full time job and getting his own place, becoming a father etc. Sue graduating college. Brick going to college etc. I think Neil Flynn (Mike) appreciates and realises how great the shows been and he knows he won't ever get anything as good as this. Charlie McDermott (Axl) was old enough when he started The Middle (despite playing a character 3 or 4 years younger) to appreciate what a good gig this was as a young actor. The actors who play Sue and Brick I think will struggle the most. Its all they've known in their early adult lives. They'll both still get work including voice-over work but nothing well ever ever match the natural highs of being involved in a show of this magnitude and being a character of such prestige. It will leave a massive void in their lives. I appreciate Patricia wants some time out now her children are grown up, and after working 12 hour days for the past 19 years. But I beg her to take 2 years out and then give us a few more series'!!

I want season 10 but i know it can’t be possible but i still want a movie or a TV show all together with patricia heaton, eden sher, neil flynn, atticus shaffer and charlie mcdormett. Edit: after so many years, it was not the best program. I got a life and watched other programs. A lot other tv shows are better.
