Nice review. Im currently playing as Babylon, learning the mechanics and such. Really like the legacy system since it adds some other goals to achieve. How do you record this footage of Babylon?
The new update is just what the game needed and is a lot of fun. CA listened to the players and really have produced a gem of a game. All those people who have been relentlessly negative towards Pharaoh are perhaps looking a little silly now. Pharaoh is perhaps the best Total War game ever, and I say that having played most of them.
At launch Pharaoh was not a good game, I was on the anti-Pharaoh train when it launched, after the Dynasties update? completely changed my mind and I agree that this is a good game now, there are more than enough factions between major and minor and enough play styles to suit anyone. People will always say "Oh I wish this or that was also here" sure we all have wish lists and those lists are always growing but for the time frame that CA Sophia had and the budget they delivered on this update and deserve recognition for it, I have been told this is the last major update for the game and if true I think that's really unfortunate as there is a lot more potential.
@@MedjayofFaiyum I want an iron age expansion and a mythological expansion. The iron age expansion is an easy one. Just swap out some characters, change some city and province names, change some faction names and shuffle around their mechanics, and change the way a few buildings work. The iron age wouldn't be tangibly different in substance since copper and bronze was still common. It would mainly be different in terms of scale and the spread of new tech. So upgrade a few units to iron sword units by swapping textures and adding higher attacks. Make it easier to field large armies and more people. Have wider access to chariots and horses. Etc. It wouldn't be such a difficult job to do it, although they would maybe need to expand the map towards persia for such a DLC. Still only an area around the size of half of anatolia would be more than enough for that. But for a mythos DLC? basically just the troy mythos DLC but on the greater scale of Pharaoh
A superb review Medjay! Indeed CA did a fantastic job with Pharaoh. There is still plenty of room for expansion with this game though and it would be a waste of potential for them to just move on. It would be great if we could have a westward expansion to include Italy or even a mini campaign focussed on Aeneas's arrival in Italy and his war against Turnus. Perhaps also a Kadesh mini campaign? Given the significance of Kadesh and how reasonably well known it is, I am sure many would be interested in this. I agree the Mythos DLC is a must. There are a great many who love mythology. I can't imagine a better opportunity for a mythological game than this, far better visuals that the cartoony look of Age of Mythology Retold, with blood, with a giant campaign map and with far more cultures represented. Mythological games and movies do sell well. Mythology is at the heart of fantasy and there are many who enjoy both historical and fantasy settings and would play both modes. Troy was great because it gave you the choice of how you wanted to play, it was like having two games in one. Adding mythology to the game is going increase it's modding potential, I'm sure once CA puts down the groundwork for a mythological mode, the modders will be able to make some really good additions to the game increasing the lifespan of the game. it's a win-win for CA to include it, surely it's just the case of adding an extra mode, with a few mythical creatures for each of the factions and some godpowers. It would be fine if the campaign was just a copy of the historical mode just with the mythological elements added in. I am pressed to think of other games out there that cover Mesopotamian mythology, let alone Canaanite mythology? I have never encountered Lamassu in a mythological game to date but it would be amazing to have them fighting against cyclops and sphinxes. There seems to be a gap in the market here for some exciting new mythologies that we have not seen in games before and if the Mythos DLC is not produced for Pharaoh Dynasties then I doubt we will being seeing these mythologies covered in games anytime soon, if ever. I do feel hopeful though as I have my doubts that it really is the last DLC they'll make for the game despite what CA prior to the release of Dynasties. If they had said we intend to release further DLC after Dynasties and Pharaoh's sales figures continued to do badly or at least not improve significantly, then they would feel obliged to continue producing DLC for a game that is not profitable for them. I think they made that statement to cover themselves, just in case. Technically, they said it was the last for Pharaoh, not necessarily for Pharaoh Dynasties. Fortunately though, the new update seems to have been very well received and being more successful, CA may entertain producing future DLC for the game after all. There's also some encouragement in the additional notes after the system requirements on the Steam store page for Dynasties "Additional Notes: This game may be updated over time and have paid for and free additional content released for it."
This is going to be my most played TW game and this very much includes WH and Rome 2! I am so content and happy that they included Rhesus and Thrace in this game, as this will be my most played faction. :) Rome 2 had the Odryssian kingdom, but Rhesus, he is special! Thank You for the positivity, btw, it is very much needed in this community! Stay safe and healthy!
I would love to see Dynasties getting 10k players. There needs to be some bug fixes though. The AI that doesn't border you declares war on you and if they happen to be Merneptah's vassal so that drags in him and his vassals this happens a lot when I play as my boy Ramesses and the Canaanites he borders, I am looking at you Hetch and Beersheba, have even declared war on me on the same time and both controls a full army and half+ army as well. Another bug is if you are adopted into the Dynasty by the ruling Dynasty Ruler aka the Supreme Ruler like Merneptah adopts your faction leader let's say Ramesses and you happen to get enough legitimacy that Merneptah makes you the Dynastic Heir and when he enters the Field of Reeds and you become Pharaoh, I have noticed that the Dynasty Tree and Deeds vanishes, so you can't appoint a heir and also adopt factions as well but I did informed Todor so hopefully it gets fixed. Besides these issues the game is good imo and is my favorite game.
The oldest titles like Total War Shogun 1 still have AI which makes much better tactical moves (if you want dumber-ish AI good 4 u). It is questionable whether the administration mechanic is good. Older titles had some sort of corruption of big empire, or no mechanic like that at all. Naval battles are missing. So I would argue that older titles are really lovely. That said, this update will definitely improve this game a lot.
It seems logical to put so many resources into the game and rule out selling further DLCs for the game from the start. Regardless of how successful it becomes...
Yeah felt the same about troy, but Pharaoh impressed me from the get go, it got so much unfair bs because of when it released because a big part of the community was pissed at things irrelevant of Pharaoh. They release this right when tension was high not just due to warhammer 3 dlc drama, but right after that horrible PR letter from rob. You don't need to apologise for liking the game, and it's in my opinion one of the better total wars out there. I know I'm not the only one who shares that opinion but it's sad some people are afraid to praise it still. Also don't worry about the complaints from a few bad apples, it's court jester level stuff, like one youtuber crying about things aren't unique enough then later in the same video crying about how things are too unique. A lot of people exposing themselves atm for being toxic, miserable people who can't let something good be appreciated by those who want to appreciate it. Aren't you able to change the timing of the night day cycle in campaign customisation or settings? thought I saw that. I hard disagree with the myth mode. Your second mic is a lot nicer to hear than your first in early part of video. It's not bias if it's objectively measurable, this is a free update that does a lot of good things and few bad things. What's not to love. Bias is literally when you ignore the facts, ignore statistics or objective truths because you have a predefined need towards one view/side specifically to distort the truth in favour of your side or view. You've touched on things you like and dislike, while being fair, that sounds like the complete opposite of bias my friend. I used to moderate a sub, so learnt how to look up people to find if they are scammers. You'd be really suprised how few people who hated on Pharaoh had actually played it. it was disgraceful, a dark dark time for our community.
I always suspected that a large proportion of the haters had never bothered to play Pharaoh. And most of the others were perhaps frustrated that the game didn't play like a lot of the previous Total War titles and never bothered to learn the game properly. There seems to be a lot of casual hostility and negativity in the world these days and the Total War community is no exception.
@@adrianthompson5250 Honestly it was a combination of a frustrated fanbase, herd mentality and a seperate extremely toxic couple of groups who went out their way to sabotage it.
