Thanks, Totally agree.......
Thanks Patrick
You know there should be consumer protection laws that allow you to take your wife back to her parents within one year if she has a defect....lol Cheers!
Agree but if it gets deleted my wife found out 😂😂😂
Bad wife. Bad knife. We'd like a return policy.
lol. 💯💯
😂😂😂😂😂
😂
Great explanation of what we expect as knife buyers. Great thought process and chat about lemons, warranty, and service. Thanks JB
Thank you so much Tim!
When CASE gives you lemons make lemonade 😂
Excellent discussion. Great video JB 👍
Thanks so much Jeremy!
A video that needed making bravo funnily enough the only Knife I have been disappointed with for quality was a Case, borderline issues so kept it but soured me from ever buying another, at the price point you expect better my Rough Ryders were all miles in front for F&F, agree with all your points. 😁
CASE is way overpriced for the quality you get.
Thanks for watching Lewis
If you buy a bugout, you will always buy a lemon
Lol....not likely but ok
@@BigRedEDC It is a weak gas station knife. If you want a real benchmade, get a 940 or even a griptilian
@MantisTobaggan84 I have several
@@BigRedEDC I used to but not anymore. Now that their axis lock patent has ended, I have tons of options on other brands.
Good morning JB, good information. Thanks
Thank you Rolf
Like the anecdote that bank tellers are taught how to spot fakes by learning the real thingninside and out, really helpful here that you've taken time to say what right looks like 👍
@@annasoH323 thanks so much. Have a great day my friend!!
I am on my 3rd Kizer Mini Roach. It will be delivered Friday. First one had a click in the lock and up and down play when open, the second one had a tip that was ground so thin I could bend it with my finger. Third times a charm right?
I would hope so!!
Really appreciate your tutorial on the process. Ironically, I’ve had virtually no problems with the “cheap” Rough Rider and RCB knives, but 99% of my new Case knives have had a problem of some sort🤔
It's crazy how that works, isn't it?
Couldn't have said it any better JB,
Thanks so much for watching
Another great topic JB.
Thanks Mike!!
100% agree, agree, agree!
Thanks so much Shane
I’ve ordered several times since then and haven’t had a single solitary problem, but it’s still tweaks my melon. I gave the knife away of course and a friend had no idea was supposed to be assisted!
Right on Rory!
It’s sorta funny , most things that drive people buying a pocket knife nuts nowadays went totally unnoticed back in day .
Probably did a lot of time.
@@BigRedEDC Back then it was just a tool

Good information JB, thanks for sharing, YAH bless brother !
My pleasure Michael!
I noticed increase in quality on RR. Case needs to bring it's quality control up if they want to justify the steak and Lobster prices.
Lol....no doubt
you are totally correct
Thank you Kathleen
Great topic JB this is the main reason I have sworn never to buy another Geber product ever again!!!
Right on Grim!
@@BigRedEDC Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me! 😁
Great topic, I'd have to say it does drive me nuts. Because I know I will have to return it, and wait to get it back. I let them have the chance to make it right, mistakes happen.
Case warranty works, but takes a long time. The one time using the warranty, with the only Case I've bought without looking at it first, and it took them 5 1/2 months to fix it. Rosecrafts warranty works great, sent a replacement before the email confirming the replacement. Thanks for sharing JB, be safe.
It is frustrating for sure James.
A really great series
Thank you Alex
JB Thanks for another great video on an interesting topic. Quite honestly I hadn't really considered some of these issue or how I would handle them. Thanks for sharing your insight and wisdom!!!
I hope you never have to.
Depends where you buy I think
Great video. I agree! I'm a Case fan, but I have a couple lemons in my Soddy collection. 😅
Thanks. That's the downside of this hobby sometimes.
One thing to remember, if you have an issue, its probably better to return it to the retailer. Reason is Case is more apt to reimburse smkw rather than an individual. Usually manufacturers will credit a retailer for damaged or bad products. They have more sway over the manufacturer than you do. However on something that supposedly has a lifetime warranty, the retailer is only gonna take it back for a limited time.
That’s a good point to consider but what's the use of a lifetime warranty if the end user can't take advantage of it and get a positive outcome?
Good video. I was wondering where the Case Russlock was. Lol.
I sent it to Mike Curtis since he's a Case guy
👍🏼
Thank you radar!
Good points. Buy from a reputable company or dealer and you're good the vast majority of the time.
Yes indeed Jim!
Awesome video now i want home made lemonade. My son and i made this blueberry lemon cake like thing🤤 awhile back. Im gonna start bugging him to do that again for sure.
That sounds delicious!
It's usually a fit and finish problem I think
I own over 500 fixed and folding knives and have had over 20 lemons. I tend to buy new knives from well known knife websites instead of the small ones in case its bad and I can send it back and get a refund. I've bought three Rosecraft traditional knives in various design patterns where I literally could not pull out the blade from the handle and sent them back for a refund or exchange. I bought a Buck Ranger with micarta scales where the blade tip was touching the side of the interior of the knife and despite readjusting the pivot screw, I could not get the blade to stop touching the inside of the knife handle and sent it back to Amazon. I've had Case knives where the bone handle was cracked and I sent it back. I sent five or six Case knives back because they weren't sharp and the edge of the blade was uneven and very rough. Again, these knives were $60 to $100 and I sent it back. About 99 percent of my knives were bought new, not used. I own over 120 Rough Ryders and my expectations are low on them but I've had a RR spring come cracked and was unable to pull out the blade out of the handle and I sent them back or got a refund. I had a Rough Ryder where the blade was exposed out of the handle and I sent it back. I bought a new Rough Ryder Carbon knife and the blade was black in several spots and I could not remove the black spots (the patina) and I got a refund. Strangely enough I've neve had a bad Victorinox or Civivi /Sencut/We knife as far as quality control
Right on. Thanks for sharing your experience
Anything new should come 99% perfect. If not the company should replace, offer discount or whatever.
Right on Greg
I have been fairly lucky on this. One CRKT. Two Case and three Rough Ryder knives.
@rustyknifelover4463 it's always a risk wih anything you buy. Reasonable expectations aren't always met
Atta Babe JB! #BigRedEDCto12K #DSKFS
Thanks Mark! Have a great day.
I once got a Rough Ryder that was so off-center the blade was touching the liner. I just gave it away to my dad and he didn't mind it. For 12 bucks I didn't wanna go through the hassle but I suppose I could've gotten a new one 😅
Right on! Yeah you probably could have but I get why you didnt.
Great video
Thank you Kevin!
If I get a lemon that's still in production, and the company doesn't stand behind it. It will be the last knife of that company. Depends how much the knife was and if I purchased it new.🤷 I got a few lemons before. SOG and Kershaw. Some bigger companies, but they fixed or replaced the knife. Knife warranty matters.😉 Great video JB.👏
Right on! Thanks so much for watching my friend
I had an issue with SMKW ordered a knife that was supposed to be assisted that was listed that way in their catalog. I got it and then it wasn’t assisted. I called up and they checked and it was wrong on their part but the issue was, I would have to send it back to them and pay the shipping for them to credit me back. I wasn’t too happy.
Understandable Rory! Thanks for sharing
100% of Leatherman Arcs are lemons. I'm on my 2nd one. Both came with dull blades that have piss poor heat treats so they won't take or hold an edge, more frame flex than an Ozark Trail, and the wire cutters broke on hay bailing wire which even Gerber's lousy carbide cutters are unphased by. We're talking about a tool that costs $230-275 depending on if you get a regular Arc or the Arc Obsidian (my 1st was an original, current is an Obsidian) and I'm two for two being absolute trash
Sounds like a real bummer!
@@BigRedEDC it is. The most expensive multitool in the world is also the worst
I bought a qsp gorilla and right out of the box it wouldn't lock up i was bummed out because I really like that knife so i just bought another one but out of all my knives and at this point it quite a few the qsp was the only bad knife ive ever received🤞 great video man 👍
Right on David! Thanks for sharing
If you get something from Amazon sold and delivered by Amazon anything that's bad they'll replace it or give you a refund usually no questions asked sometimes you get to keep the item
Yep. Done that a few times
I think it's about reasonable expectations, and there's plenty of things that I do to a knife right out of the box to make it better for me. But things like bad detents and action issues that can't be resolved with the normal tricks are definitely going to get returned. But the big thing is how companies and brands deal with consumers and like your experience with Case I've had my share of encounters where I came away with a bad taste in my mouth and those companies are on my black list. In this day and age there are just way too many choices for a knife guy to settle for less than complete satisfaction with a purchase.
Right on John! How a company/retailer deals with the customer is huge!
I've only picked up one knife I wasn't satisfied with but there was nothing wrong with the knife it was just me not being satisfied with it but I didn't send it back. It was a Case folder with that being said I stopped buying anything from them.
Right on Ed!
Hmmm unless it's a sweet yellow blade lol
LOL!
Customer service is a dying artform in this country, I'm afraid. Companies that do excel need to be trumpeted. Big examples are Olight and Rite in the Rain.
Just had a fantastic customer service experience with Olight yesterday!
What country ? Everyone is jumping on the chinese bandwagon. That's my main argument about 300-$500 knives. I know that if I buy from Spyderco, it will ALWAYS be backed up. Good luck with that on these Chinese brands. They won't be around that long. Especially not in 10-20 years. The knife reinessance will be over shortly anyhow.
