  • Thousands of people have taken to the streets of West Bengal, India, to condemn the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at a Kolkota hospital.
Under the slogan "Reclaim the Night", demonstrators called for more action against violence on women. Smaller protests also took place in other cities around the country. Sexual violence against women is on the rise in India, with an average of ninety rapes every day reported in 2022.
The protesters held a candle lit march at midnight coinciding with the start of India's independence day celebrations. Many expressed frustration over the state of women's safety in modern-day India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for swift justice in cases of violence against women.

      @rohand04 23 дня назад

@@josevladimiraustria2736 you hit the nail on head..
That's partially true.. the real problem is that politician needs the population to be concentrated on the singular case rather than the problem..
They will definitely come to a quick response with highly popular cases.. but won't address the root cause of the problem.
As you said we in percapita terms are poor..but the politicians will convince that it's because of some another political party or Politicians in past who are responsible.. or a certain religious minorities..
But won't address that the system is based on exploitation..
They have essentially inherited British rule and laws . That were supposed to subjugate the population.. not improve their life.. to divide and rule
Now the same laws are used by the political parties.. to be in power
Even this case is highlighted because the central government is not the same party as Bengal..
While the same outrage won't be when this case would have happened in a state with BJP majority..
I'm not justifying.. but they are not interested in dealing with the problem.. but just want to dilute the anger.. the same happened multiple times before

India has not turned into the next China for a myriad of reasons. The level of social dysfunction, including the extraordinary amount of violence against women, is definitely part of it. In China, women were moved to the coastal cities to work in textiles and now other production jobs before becoming secretaries and even doctors and other service jobs. In India, women leave small villages for economic opportunity but then they stay on the move trying to avoid violence. The street in Delhi becomes 95% male after 8 PM. Women stay in. I expected it would be at least 70 to 30. It was like 95 to 5

Punishment is one thing, but what about PREVENTION? For that, the CULTURE and belief system especially in regards to women and bodily autonomy MUST CHANGE. Parents needs to raise their children with better values, and communities need to shed their anachronistic medieval beliefs about GENDER (especially about the value of women) and modernize to a more equal and humane culture. Boys and girls need to integrate better and need to be taught RESPECT of personal BOUNDARIES, the concept of consent, and personal restraint of sexual urges.

I was one of the protesters at the midnight March. We are fighting tooth and nail to deliver justice to this woman. As a female citizen of WB and India, I’ll say a few things:
The situation of women safety isn’t good in India. The 🍇 rate of India is 1.8. However, in European countries the 🍇 rates are:-Sweden 204.73, Iceland 142.8, France 87.18, Switzerland 50.35, Germany 49.39, UK 67.92 etc. [Statista and Pew Research]. Having lived in Germany in the past, I know how hush-hush the reporting/law enforcement is regarding g-r@p3. One of the biggest reasons why India’s numbers are so high is 1.gigantic population and 2. lack of awareness at the grassroot level. As for the laws, r@p3 and gang r@pÉ = lifetime imprisonment/death penalty but the judiciary and law enforcement barely impose these laws. However, the smaller figure is nothing to feel good about. The numbers MUST be 0. None of us are safe until all of us are safe.
As for the case in point: The state of West Bengal is a dictatorship within a democracy. The TMC government (part of the Opposition block that BBC/DW News/CNN etc portrays as the messiah of democracy) using the state machinery and goons (drǔG cart3ls, arms cart;3ls, s3x traffick-ng cart3ls etc) have held us captive for decades now. They do not hold free and fair elections either. The entire voting process in WB is controlled by the mafia goons and illegal immigrants from neighbouring countries. Even this case is being covered up by the state machinery (cremating body without the consent of parents, tampering with and destroying evidence, intimidating witnesses etc). It can be assumed the actual culprits are somehow politically related to the TMC government and the man caught is only a scapegoat.
And those who are out here using this situation to be racist/phobic towards any religion of India: Don’t. This is a serious issue, use something else to further your bigotry.

“What Bengal thinks today India thinks tomorrow”
This quote was said by Gopal Gokhale before 1915. We were together back then. It signifies how Bengalis have been at the forefront in patriotism, in every sphere of life. Just bcz of partition we are not together but our spirit for justice is still here.

Without any solutions, this will become a global plague. What is the solution to animalistic behaviours. There has to be a solution to this thousand year old problem. Animals are raped to death often, deer, ducks, seals…. What is the solution? Poor thing, she was a doctor, sacrificing her rest hours to help others…

Political vultures politicise every single issue in India from building affordable housing to providing street lights, drinking water taps or toilets. The level of corruption and lack of morality and ethics at the top level is untenable and renders every system dysfunctional. The rape and murder that happened in the RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata is the direct outcome of the politically patronized corruption of the college’s pr!ncipal. This systemic rot in the heathcare system is neither unique to one particular state or one particular sector.

Hospitals and police stations/departments or law enforcement agencies are supposed to be a safe sanctuary whereby basic human rights were respected and protected. In India, it is a different story.
    1) 31-year-old trainee doctor was found "R" and "K" in Kolkata hospital while she was on duty, India, dated 9th August 2024.
    2) 33-year-old nurse in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand hospital was found "R", "K", and robbed, dated July-August 2024.
    3) "New Delhi CNN-A 13-year-old girl who was allegedly "GR" by four men in India, was allegedly "R" again by a police officer after she tried to seek his help in reporting the initial attack".
    4) "Uttar Pradesh: constable Raghvendra Singh booked for "R"of Dalit woman, absconding".
These are merely 4 examples. There can be no mistake that |ndia is the "R" capital of the world.

I live in Cologne and I am an Indian. No, Cologne has not forgotten "that" new years night. The people assualting women on that night were all from north African immigrant community (assylum seekers included) and sone of the victims were also girls with immigrant background as well.
Mysogenistic men are in every country, but rape or sexual assault is not a systemic problem in Cologne or Germany. What DW is reporting on is a real systemic problem across India. It is a societal problem where still in minds of many (men amd women) the woman being raped must have done something wrong to get raped. So much for false morality and false culture! Acceptance of the problem is the first step to acknowledge the problem.
