DAMN YOU GUYS REALLY LIKE TOORU THAT MUCH?!? Mmm video on him soon?
Yes we love our mushroom king
I think Tooru is brilliant. He is how he is because of his rock human ideals. He's unassuming and almost non villain like because he feels he must be so that he will not stick out.
I think Tooru should have been introduced with Holly, befriended Josuke and revealed as a villain towards the end with hints sprinkled throughout. It wouldn't be anything amazing, but it would be better and fit with the mystery genre.
Capitalize the B and A
Na man i agree with you Tooru is whack
I see we going to forget Kira was also introduced 1/2 way through the part
Except he’s a complete character and not thrown into the story for the sake of having a final boss
@@theeagleunion2949 What? We knew about Diavolo since the first episode, just not much about him, which is the point made throughout the entire season lmao. I feel like people don’t get the point of his character.
@@uhhhidk2238 I’m not referring to diavolo lmao, even if I still have problems with his character
@@theeagleunion2949 Ahhh I felt as if you were due to him specifically pointing this out in the video, my bad. To each their own, I felt as if he was painted as an amazing character, although i still do love Kira and Dio, mystery jojo is best jojo.
@@theeagleunion2949 tooru?
You should’ve brung up the fact that some of the later villains are people with social power. Diavolo is a mob boss, Pucci is one of the most high positions in the prison, president Valentine is THE PRESIDENT (most powerful one so far) and Tooru is the founder of the locacaca organization. (That’s half of the villians as people of power)
Don't forget Wonder Of U is also a damn head doctor-
@@mastermitser5693 He practices on giving people the best head of their life. It's so good that he became a medical expert
Compared to Dio [poor boy from a poor family, but went into law], Kars [vague on his social status], and Yoshikage Kira [department store worker], it's a little unusual how Araki trended towards giving characters status to artificially enhance how important otherwise insignificant characters are.
@@amesstarline5482 pucci? Insignificant?
Kira is the most important he's a department store worker
I think you may be mistaken in Diavolo's motivation. He didn't just want to be the boss, what he really wanted was to be unknown. Being unknown wasn't just a safety thing for him or a practical matter. He had a deep need to be unknown to everyone so badly that his personality split into 2 and he kept his identity from that other personality.
Personally I think he was 2 people
Isn't Doppio the first personality and Diavolo was the fracture?
@@gaminganimators7000 i have always been under the impression that it was the other way around
We can’t forget everyone’s favorite antagonist donovan. He is so stealthy not even wild bats can hear him
@Donovan Roundtree 😳
You’re forgetting the best villain
Doobie
Ahh yes, the donavan the guts ripper
Lmao
He op as heck
I personally love kars as it shows how a faulted hero (Joseph) matches against perfection. Kars is the antonym to Joseph as Kars intelligence and purity against Joseph's tricks. I think stand alone yes Kars does kinda suck but seeing him against Joseph you can see why he is amazing..
@Christina Azarian Nobody liked Esidisi, c‘mon now
Tooru personifies calamity, which is shown as a force of nature in part 8. He himself states that it is ‘inevitable that bad things will happen, that is calamity.’ His expression of this inevitability is in PERFECT contrast to Josuke.
Josuke is the result of a string of divine coincidences, to the point where his very existence is an impossibility. (The impossibility of his own existence is also on display in the ability of Go Beyond)
This dynamic, inevitably vs. impossibility is the strongest and subtlest dynamics in the series in my opinion.
The conclusion to this clash is the impossibility prevailing, as the only thing that can overcome a law of nature is something that is incapable of existing within it, as it is unbound by nature’s very laws.
In conclusion: Tooru goated and I love talking about him. There’s more to their dynamic too: how their conflicting natures are shown through their early interactions with Yasuho, Tooru’s value in memory vs. Josuke’s lack of memory & value in those who he forms memories with. I can go on, but I hope this helped explain why I really enjoy this underrated villain.
The Rock Humans emphasis on memory makes Gappy's amnesia way cooler
I like Tooru a lot, but I don't think he's the "main villain", just the "final villain". There was no "main" villain in Part 8 as Josuke's struggle was introspective, which is why Josuke fights Wonder of U, and never confronts Tooru directly. The downfall of Tooru is the Higashikata family, as he is a predator targeting their family and land. For the type of story Jojolion was, I think Tooru was fine.
I like to think of the curse itself as the main villain.
Unfortunately Tooru IS treated as the big bad. He's the leader of the rock humans and is shoved in at the last Radio Gaga Arc.
@@nuibaba280 Yes, but it's still just Rock Humans vs the Higashikata.
It's kinda like the Emperor in Star Wars. Obviously the "main" antagonist is palpatine, as he'd been pulling the strings for the entire series, but thematically Vader is a more important antagonist because he's the one who directly confronts Luke, our protagonist. Luke's battle is predominantly against his father, not the Emperor. In the same regard, Josuke's battle is with himself, with self acceptance. Tooru was just a hurdle for him to overcome, as all the other Rock Humans are. I guess that's what I was getting at.
Tooru is the "main" antagonist, just not for Josuke, which is why Josuke fights [Wonder of U], a man with no face as his final adversary in cementing his own identity, instead of Tooru directly, who is defeated by the Higashikata family, who the Rock Humans have been plotting against for years.
I swear
Honestly thinking about it, I always feel like Jobin, the eldest son is the main antagonist of the arc. He does more damage to the group, and his ego contrasts well with Gappy's faltering self worth.
Diavolo's motications are basic? Bruh what?
His motivation is to conquer his crippling fear of the past and his own identity. And Doppio's fear created Diavolo/king crimson as a coping mechanism. The taking over Italy thing was already accomplished before the part even started.
I really like Diavolo's huge desire to overcome the past and his focus on the "results"
Yes
Def think that Diavolo is Arakis most "complete" villain. He is an established threat that has his motivation grounded in who he is as opposed to who he's become or the role that he is forced to assume and it sucks that alot of people don't fully recognize that aspect of his char.
Fr this guy needs to reread part 5
@@milkboy9096 yeah best part for me👍
Honestly, diavolo was shown late in the part because araki had wanted to have a sort of aura of mystery around him, so he only went by, "boss" early in part 5. Also, araki did this because of how secretive mafias can be. This is the very same case with tooru from jojolion; there was another air of mystery about learning who exactly was the head doctor and araki definitely looked at part 5 for inspiration
On Diabolo, I think the ambiguous backstory helped Diavolo's characterization. Mostly because it builds him up as a force of nature because if we did know Diabolo's full origins it would be quite boring, and his character would be less intimidating because we as humans are less scared of something if it has a direct explanation. Imagine if we were just told his entire life, we would just take it and move on, but because we only get little bites of his background, there is more suspense surrounding who is Diavolo, what is Diavolo, and how is Diavolo. This becomes a lot more important when considering that JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a SUSPENSE/HORROR series.
I agree, not knowing much about him is what makes him so interesting and confusing, but not really confusing in a bad way
He is an enigma
Diavolo is the most human like villain after Kira and pucci despite being a supernatural element is what I like about him. He has a terrifying stand and was a very terrifying character himself but still is a coward.
I very much agree, Diabolo is a great villain because we are shown enough to know he's a threat and want to know more but not enough to get bored and move on. To me he's extremely well written and the double personality dynamic is just amazing.
@@NeoToons yeah
On Funny Valentine- what was established with Pucci, is perfected with Funny Valentine. Initially an unassuming fat oaf, is exposed as a towering man of principle that has an elegant looking Stand with a godlike power that is further boosted by the messiah himself to do a goal that’s arguably nobler than the heroes.
While he definitely has morally dubious traits, he’s someone that makes you question who’s right and the role of antagonist. He’s the best so far….
But in the end it showed his true colors when he tried to betray and kill Johnny instead of just bringing back gyro
@@ultraman1682 l think that he wouldn't get Gyro back but would just take that chance to escape into another dimension.
Nah kira is much better. Part 7 is the best but valentine is overrated, wow hes patriotic. Okay and?
Tooru doesn't just want money, he wants to be historic and legendary. The idea is that in a world where Rock Humans outbreed and slowly conquer the Humans from within, he would be remembered as their ultimate genius messiah and hero forever, because memories and legacy are all that matter to him. He's frustrated that even after making a new innovative invention, Humans don't even consider the impact of what he made, or how influential it will be, they just focus on how he looks or acts and decide to reject him for such shallow reasons. I love the Rock Humans because their supremacism is much more grounded, realistic, and interesting than just that there are a race of people that are more powerful than humans.
Diovolo doesn't just want to be in charge, he wants Doppio. The characters throughout the entire part assume that the boss's past must have the key to some huge weakness in his powers and abilities that will lead to his defeat. But that's not true, the only reason he has to keep his identity secret is so that he can continue to live as the sweet and cute innocent doppio without being recognized as the god father.
About diavolo, i dont think so, he didnt even care when doppio died
@@blingblingz_ Dude he was very very busy at the moment lol. Multiple times he acts very protective to Doppio during the Metallica fight
With Kars, I view the trio Pillar Men as the collective main villain, with Esidisi/Wamuu standing out. He’s initially a stoic and determined villain that is shown to care for life and his colleagues, but his later actions of throwing it away to be a dishonorable sadist, managed to really get under my skin- even more so than Dio Brando’s disgusting antics. Even with his admittedly cool Ultimate Life Form powers and his backstory of being unappreciated by his people to help them overcome their weaknesses- it’s hard to see Kars as a favorite or even memorable in comparison to the other two, who show affable natures, hidden depths and cool fights.
Great points but unfortunately for you, Kars is the hottest character in all of jojo so your points are sadly invalid :(
@@margaretmoonlight616 based
What do you mean there is nothing to discuss about tooru as a character? What about his dreams and memories philosophy? What about his existence as a parasite with no care for true human connections to contrast the protagonist's journey that culminated in human connection?
Edit: Also kira was introduced halfway through part 4 and diavolo is a fantastic villain that illustrates the themes of part 5 brilliantly as he doesn't have the neccesary resolve to oppose fate, so he "skips to the result."
The fact that Tooru was also a lover of Yasuho but instead of loving her as a person only focused on his past memories with her while Josuke has no memories at all and strives to spend time with her to create new ones
@@margaretmoonlight616 Yeah, the entire point of Tooru as a character is to hammer home the entire point of josuke's character arc as a person who strives to live in the present for the people around him.
Tooru is the negative side of that message, someone who fails to live in the present.
@@dallascoggins1534 Some readers of Jojo are so obsessed with the idea that a “main villain” has to fit into a certain mold that they can’t comprehend that Jojolion, unlike every other part of Jojo, isn’t ABOUT the main villain or the journey. It’s about Josuke, and Tooru is a perfect foil to him. He didn’t need to be introduced earlier to make that point.
@@margaretmoonlight616 I would mostly agree but I thought of Tooru as merely using Yasuho to get what he wanted like how he used the Rock Humans and the Guardrail
I love tooru as a character, but he doesn't feel like a MAIN VILLAIN. he's just the last one.
When part 8 gets animated, if DavidPro adds some anime original scenes for him, people would like him more
Diavolo is meant to be demonic, his name is even devil in Italian. He meant to mirror and opposite DIO, and shares a lot of character traits in common with Kira because of this. His whole goal is to exist within sociaty however he wants with out consequence and exist by his own way. Very similar to Kira, but more supernatural.
With Part 1 Dio Brando- while he does have his tragic death of his mother and abuse from his father, it’s overshadowed by his decision to accept what society eventually expects from him due to his monstrous actions- becoming a corrupting monster that perverts life. While he does do the unthinkable by killing the main hero, this literal/metaphorical parasite pales in comparison to his later self. He does have the eerie factor of ruining Jonathan’s life early on before becoming a vampire that almost always loses in extreme fashion to Jonathan.
Which is why I like Diego more than dio
However, what stands out is that Jonathan didn't always win initially. Dio did. Shonen did not even like how Dio won more than Jonathan.
[I do still read Part 6 Dio as a partial memory-clouded form of Dio]
@@amesstarline5482 Shonen has a tendency to not like thing's that are different
In reality Danny was the main villain, Dio was just saving Jonathan
With DIO from Part 3 onwards, my initial impression was this larger than life, hardcore monster that had this pretense of being of a methodical and strategic person before becoming a crazed loon undeserving of the loyalty of his followers.
His Stand- The World sets up the expectations for a main villain Stand- imposing with a unique design and awesome powers- in this case, awesome enough to be copied into the main hero’s already impressive roster of abilities. DIO has a grand build up, but fizzles out without dignity.
He’s portrayed as a irredeemable monster in part 4 as well. It’s part 5 and especially 6 that we finally see his depths of character as a father that sometimes spares children for vague, but implied conflicting reasons and a philosophy person that has interesting views on fate.
bro has never heard of the enter button
Sometime I wonder if Part 8 only has a main antagonists because that just how a lot a stories are. However the focus on whose the main antagonist of Part 8 takes away from what I personally feel Part 8 seem like. It more about the mystery of who Josuke/Gabby was and Rokakaka.
Tooru is massively underrated! His contrast with Josuke through motherhood and his lack of it. His inability to form connection as seen with his hesitant lack of commitment with Yashuo. He uses his stand to never form a genuine human connection! I originally found him quite bland, after I was sent an analysis it changed my view and made me think. He is my second favorite villain behind Valentine.
No I agree. Jojolion is a story about motherhood and as a Rock Human never meets his mother. In nature it is the job of a father to protect while it is the job of the mother to teach. Tooru was never taught how to interact with anyone or anything; it was the opposite, he was taught how to act as a parasite with the hornets. Wonder of U is how Tooru interacts with anyone and while Wonder of U has its own personality, as a reflect of its user, I like to think Wonder of U is Tooru’s true self.
Akira might make a side story for him so that we can understand better
Ehh still doesn't do a lot for his character I'd have like to see more of that along with his greed and his nature as a rock human. He's nowhere as good as my fav Jojo villains like Kira and Valentine imo.
Josuke’s journey WAS the build up to Tooru.
Both are men who were born from the earth, who were blessed with incredibly powerful stand abilities, yet walked completely different paths. Josuke learned to move on from the past, while Tooru revels in it. He focuses on his past relationships and failures because he values the longevity of ones own legacy above all else.
While there isn’t anything wrong with wanting to be remembered, Tooru goes about life ONLY wanting to do things worth remembering. Tooru doesn’t cherish the moments he spends with Yasuho like Josuke does, only the memories left behind. Tooru is what Josuke could have been, and I think that’s beautiful.
TLDR; Tooru’s buildup is more thematic rather than just being blatantly shown.
Tears in my eyes
I think tooru is less of a narrative villain and more a force of nature style villain that represents the impact that the rokakaka fruit had on the higashikata household
The rokakaka was deceptive in the sense that it seems like it should be a problem solver but in reality all it did was send hordes of rock humans after Josuke and the gang and dealt out suffering and pain to everyone. This is like tooru because tooru was an assistant doctor and had the stand of the head doctor. He’s very “kind”, laid back, and charismatic. They seem like they should help you and be good guys yeah? Well no, in reality they were the biggest monsters in the entire part, just how the rokakaka was the biggest threat in the entire part
This is definitely a hard reach but I still think it’s worth noting
THANK YOU!!!!
tooru gang rise up
@@lucidity1353 yes
What makes Kars one of my favorite villains is that underlying his quest for power and his basically limitless strength is this intense fear of death. It makes him come off as sort of pathetic. The scene where he protects the flower from his falling body is the most telling. He respects the flower because it has grown healthy despite its conditions. Kars sees himself in that, but really he is nothing like the flower. Kars is unstoppable, as the other pillar men were and recognized about themselves, but he fixated on “perfection” and his fear of death so much that he convinced himself he was a flower at the bottom of an alpine canyon. So even when he stands alone as the final member of his species, he still fixates on eternal life free from the fear of mortality, despite having really nothing left to live for. He is and always has been purely motivated by fear. That’s why I like Kars.
To add to this, Araki once stated that “evil is fear turned to aggression.” I’m paraphrasing here but I think that philosophy is Kars to a T.
Disliking Kars is a popular opinion?
I’ve seen a lot of people say he’s their favorite
He is...I really fail to understand how Esidisi is better than Kars...You could argue about Whamuu but Esidisi? Really? That man got as much screen time as Santana.
Whammu is better than him don’t even try to argue
@@justajobro1266 it might just be me but I just don’t like honor bound characters like that Wammu is cool and all but I like Kars more
Diavolo certainly isn't the best villain, but I think there is much more to him than what you described. His parallel to Giorno is that he doesn't use resolve to fight his fate, he just skips to the result of everything. His obsession with erasing his past and only looking to the future is really cool. Judging from the fact that Giorno is basically Jesus, I think Diavolo is actually the devil incarnate. He is shown to honestly be the most evil villain, with no semblance of care for anything but himself. Araki in an interview I think before Stone Ocean released put Diavolo in like his top 5 favorite characters, to me this means there is a lot to Diavolo that Araki chose not to show the audience and other characters
It still feels strange to think that Part 8 is over, and Part 9 is coming.
I feel like alot of people misunderstood Tooru. Even you METAs! Tooru is a thematic character. With alot of symbolisms and stuff like that. Kind of like Diavolo. He is a more of a villain to THINK about it rather than blatantly explain it.
Diavolos one of my favorite villains because he’s ambiguous and we don’t see much about him. He has a good presence.
Diavolo is the most misunderstood character in the series. The way I see it Doppio, his original personality, was traumatized by his past and his mother suddenly reappearing in his life most likely caused a psychotic break. This gave him extreme paranoia about anyone finding out about his past, and Doppio either created Diavolo or let him take over as a way to cope and hide from things that he doesn't feel strong enough to face himself. Diavolo was also designed to be a perfect foil to Bruno. He let his traumatic experience destroy his ability to ever trust others again and he considers personal ties and relationships to be a weakness he needs to destroy. Bruno is the opposite, he had a traumatic past and shitty childhood but he never lost faith in other people, and he helped the rest of his gang to move on from their pasts and learn to put faith in others again. There's a lot more to his character that I think is absolutely brilliant but this is already turning into a novel.
Great insight on him here, couldn't have said it any better 👍I feel like Besides Dio, Diavolo is the villain that parallels the MC the most emphatically and successfully; while still being able to have both literal and thematic significance to the story. I would actually say he does a better job with Diavolo THAN with Dio, but Araki was definitely trying to tell a different kind of story with part 5 than with Parts 1 and 3.
@@GonFreeccs123 I don't teally think this applies to part 3 dio tbh. Part 3 dio felt like a shell of his former self, with no real personality or motive. I know this was retconned in part 6, but imo that doesn't make how weak his character was in part 3 any better. Dio in part 3 really fails as a villain for me because he has no personal stakes with the main characters. Diavolo directly influenced the lives of all the main characters in part 5 in one way or another and acted as a foil for bruno. Kira murdered a close friend of the main cast in part 4. But dio just feels disconnected, like "we have to stop him because he's the bad guy from part 1". Saving holly is also a very weak motive for jotaro, as he's shown to treat her pretty poorly and doesn't really seem to show much concern for her. Also the amount of pointless meandering in part 3 makes it feel like there's no sense of urgency whatsoever to saving Holly. Idk I just think part 3 fails at pretty much every aspect of storytelling honestly.
I agree that Tooru isn't good, but I didn't see him as the whole villain. He was the biggest for sure, but I viewed the rock humans as a whole to be the villains and their goal of trying to surpass carbon-based humans and become the dominant species. Gappy was there to foil their plans, be back as Josefumi, or now as Josuke and the rock humans were made to place their hope into Tooru and Wonder of U to get the new rokakaka and usher in their age. Urban Gorilla specifies that the new rokakaka will bring "A whole new world for us", while the good guys are focused on money and fame. It was the rock humans vs the higashikata family, with Tooru and Gappy as their pillars. Too bad one of those pillars were better than the other.
I see Tooru like part 3 DIO, he's the leader of the bad guys, he shows up at the very end of the part with an overpowered stand. He's the culmination of all the trials that Josuke had to overcome throughout the part. The part is not about Tooru, it's about Josuke and his quest.
I haven't really read jojolion that much so I wouldn't know but what is the goal of the rock humans and tooru
@@FatherOFCrimzon Tooru’s goal is to either: Enhance the medical industry, raise domination in the Rock humans, or gain understanding of the human emotions.

You cannot separate stand from it’s master ( if you did - you simple don’t care about ideas of Araki about his power system and how it’s works in Jojo)
Was Wonder of U awesome? Yes, so did Tooru. Not just because of the stand, but Wonder of U have it’s part in why Tooru ARE great villain.
He had dramatic end. Not ironic like Kira or Diavolo or Kars. Dramatic end.
He had his moments of life, like dancing and listening to the freaking song reference.
He had enough brain cells to at least, trying to escape from battlefield when things got hot.
And he had connections to most of cast. Yasuho, Rai, Holly etc.
And he is total opposite of Josuke, just like Araki write in his book about making manga.
You absolutely can separate a stand from master. A bunch of part 3 minor villain stands are super cool but their users are boring af.
Spittin. Your stand is an extension of you. Separating tooru from his stand is like separating doppio from diavolo
@@menchacism5327 but their stand couldn't talk at all, while wou has a cool personality
@@blobofmeatwhoexist8460 ok but that's WoU, not Tooru. That also doesn't change the fact that his backstory and motivations are dogwater
@@menchacism5327 Tooru is a great villian and is a great opposite from Josuke. Someone else already said this but someone fans are obsessed that the villian has to fit certain mold and Jojolion really breaks the mold.
With Yoshikage Kira, after the very bombastic initial candidates for big bad like Angelo, Keicho, and Akira with flashy powers, but especially compared to the larger than life godlike figures of DIO and the Pillar Men- a mild mannered salary man who happens to be a serial killer would be the last person to inhabit the role. But, Araki managed to make him just as much of a threat on a personal level and realistic one.
He’s thorough for most of the time- something I’d wish more major villains would do. His Stand has a very unique design that’s sleek and dangerous looking- having an array of powers- either initially or later gained. He displays a capacity of humanity to a greater extent than the previous main villains and has a unique mindset. It’s his evil tendencies that get in the way of it.
He managed to really put the story into a tense corner that I didn’t feel with the previous main villains. And he was resourceful.
He’s not only a great villain, but a phenomenal character in his own right.
Tooru is the most misunderstood character in the whole franchise. It's hard to understand his character because the themes Araki evoke through him are very subtle and are heavely tied with the main themes of JoJolion.
I think Pucci is the best handled villain due to how much time Araki had to develop him. He's there from about the 3rd arc to the final arc, as opposed to someone like Tooru, who is there from the last arc to, well, the last arc. Stone Ocean feels like Pucci's story just as much as it feels like Jolyne's.
I differ with tooru
He was built up to be an even more mysterious person than diavolo
What his motive was is as noble as valentines that make josuke the villain
And that he appears to have been alive during sbr
Tooru was sent to late but araki probably wanted to make part 8 longer but his age tampered with that
Facts
MAN PUCCI UNDERRATED THO, he was low-key a social commentary on bigotry like u cannot deny thaat, he was a kid who was taught the wrong things which influenced him to well, reset the universe and complete what his lover and preacher taught him, like how a good Christian would.
Thank *God* . Somebody finally realises how cool Pucci is. He was always one of my favorites, constantly fighting with Funny for second place.. right under Kira.
I can't wait for that Pucci vid.
With Enrico Pucci, he’s step to a different path than the previously monstrous big bads- more of a well-intentioned extremist with his own past leading to his goal. His relationship with DIO fleshes out the latter and established him not as a blind zealot, but an equal that is able to have a friendship with a previously seen flat, pure evil character.
His Stand goes through a great deal of development, going from a resourcefully, versatile support to a potentially large scale physical threat that threatens gravity and finally a reality warping horseman of the apocalypse- each with an intimidating design.
This cunning, adaptable manipulator manages to shake the status quo by being extremely competent and achieving a goal that leads to a massive change in the dynamic of the parts going forward.
With Tooru, he’s very controversial- even compared to Kars and Diavolo. Throughout his screen time, I thought he was like the Vanilla Ice/ second to last boss before Flashback Man would show up- but it turns out that’s he’s the main antagonist. While his Stand is cool with a truly threatening power., Tooru himself is unappealing and underwhelming compared to his previous contenders.
Hears to Part 9 with a more memorable main villain.
Adding on to what others have said:
“Developing a villain halfway through is Bad but Kira is awesome.” Okay?
“We don’t get to see a lot of Diavolo or Doppio even though Doppio has HIS OWN FIGHT SCENE AGAINST ANOTHER VILLAIN.”
“Doppio doesn’t seem like a villain.” Bro thats... the point...
“Araki, why didn’t you develop diavolo’s backstory?? We need to see everything about every aspect of every villain!!” Again, the point.
“Valentine’s backstory is THE BEST.” Yeah dude, I loved pulp fiction too?
As for Tooru... you sure say “Imma be real with y’all” a whole lot and then don’t really give any reasons as to why exactly you don’t like him except for “he isn’t developed enough” and “he came in late in the story (like Kira btw).” Nothing about how his obsession with memories and lack of family is a direct foil to Josuke and the morals of Jojolion as a whole, nothing about how like Diavolo, he’s meant to represent more of an “idea” than a character.
And let’s not get started on the “Araki didn’t care about the ending of Jojolion.” Damn, you’d be a great filmmaker with all that projection. Jojolion was about breaking a curse and finding family. Both of those goals were achieved. I guess Lucy’s speech about everyone having a “mission” was kinda lost on you, if you even bothered to read it.
Also love the irony of ragging on Araki for undeveloped ideas when you don’t spend longer than 2 minutes on each villain. A+
Ok
@@METAsMETAs He has a fair point tho.
diavolo wasnt a compelling villain tbh
tooru is very thematicly relevant to gappy tho it might have been better if he had been introduced early
For Tooru it feels like he works better as a villain than a character. Like a force of mature villain: ironic considering his stand literally can control a force of nature. Wonder of U on the other hand is a top 3 minimum stand. The WoU arc is peak JoJo and the way his stand is introduced is pitch perfect but Araki did bottle it with Tooru himself. He definitely had the most potential out of the Villains. Could have been even better than Valentine (yes I truly belive that if he wasn't fumbled) but ended up being mid for JoJo. Which is still top tier but in terms of JoJo it's so much missed potential
Really? I thought he did great. He served relevance from the start! Such as his involvements with Holly Kujo and Yasuho’s overall childhood who serves as our narrator
Honestly, if it wasn't for Pucci. Part 6 would be one of my least favorite parts. He's so good!
Valentine is my favorite. I’m too tired to elaborate further
I think for the next part a villian that is seen early in the part as a close ally but is known to have their own motives. These selfish motives show every once and a while until the climax of the story happens and they betray the protagonist. I was thinking maybe like a rock human that is like a spy in the protagonists group. Basically sort of how tooru was except better thought out.
Weird how many times the villains are basically prior villains with more thought and care put in.
I loved toruu so much. He’s also the only villain that took me by surprise while all the others shout out that they are the villain right away
For part 8, I genuinely think Jobin should’ve been the main villain. Jobin’s interactions with gappy, his goal, his character design, his backstory, etc. were better than Tooru. Even tho Jobin wasn’t purely evil, it still works. That’s just my opinion tho.
With Diavolo, he’s definitely abnormal and threatening- with both his terrifying looking Stand with its metaphysical powers, his paradoxical past that paints him as an inhuman demon and his utter ruthlessness. And his relationship with Doppio gives him somewhat more depth.
Unfortunately, he’s outwitted frequently and he only really wins when it’s unnoticed or through others help. The one time he gets a clean win- the person manages to remain alive to screw him over. Even the person he killed managed to stick around to screw him over anyway.
He also has the misfortune of sharing the spotlight with La Squadra and Ciocolatta- whose personalities make for more credible big bads.
He’s controversial to say the least, but compared to Tooru- he’s a masterpiece in comparison.
Diavolo outwitted more than you give him credit for. Like, sure he doesn't get enough clean wins but his capability as a stand user is no joke, Him being cautious enough to avoid being defeated by Polnareff was neat.
I like Diavolo a lot honestly, and King Crimson is my favorite stand of all time
I disagree about tooru, i think hes great. I dont really see him as a main villain, more as like a final boss since josuke doesnt really fight him. But he definitely does not suck. I feel like he really fits in well with the theme of how mothers affect your view/actions in the world. Since rock humans never had mothers, and basically are alone for 17 years, they dont understand relationships and this is shown multiple times. So Tooru doesnt care for people or relationships that much, just memories. Only reason he wanted to spare yasuho was because he treasured their memories and not yasuho as a person. In his final moment, he sees a wasp, the only real thing that was close to a "mother" for him. I feel like he really is a great character
I think of wonder of u and tooru sorta as 2 different forces the characters have to fight. Josuke was basically born out of a bunch of calamities, and came out of it like a miracle. So him fighting a literal walking disaster and fighting with his own miracle is really fitting
I loved Tooru's stand ability but I feel that he as a character was a massive step down from Funny Valentine in terms of the interactions with Gappy and the cast. Meanwhile all the build up to the last battle with Valentine and the battle itself just has to be Araki's best writing in his whole career. Johnny trying to believe the president and being able to move past his desire to revive Gyro was amazing. I just felt like we really didn't have anything like that with Gappy and Tooru. Gappy just randomly learns that his bubble is actually using the spin and just wins like some GER type of shit, lol.
Go beyond isn’t really an asspull
If anyone says that ger or go beyond is a suddenly like jotaro time stop, I will literally loses it, first of all Ger, literally it has been said multiple times that the arrow could grant massive power and when Giorno got Ger people still call it an asspull even though the last couple of arc literally builds for it, while go beyond doesn't has as much foreshadowing as GER but it teased at chapter 76, then Rai said there are invisible things, which after rereading the wou arc yes the invisible bubble is consistent meaning araki did planned it and then the last one is it's coming out From the birth mark which is teased from chapter one which is cool.
@@blobofmeatwhoexist8460 Yeah but I'm just not a big fan of how Gappy is just suddenly a master of the infinite spin with Go Beyond. I mean I get that soft and wet is an absurdly strong stand from the start, but I still prefer how Johnny had to constantly learn through trial and error through the entirety of SBR to eventually master the infinite spin to earn an absurdly powerful stand ability, lol.
@@blobofmeatwhoexist8460 I don't think GER's an asspull per se, since obviously they did build up to Giorno getting the stand arrow, but I would've preferred if the ability he got from it just allowed him to barely squeak by a victory against Diavolo rather than it being literally I Win: The stand, lmao. The arrow didn't give him incredible power, it made him fucking invincible, lmao.
@@merritt2014 well there's a couple of mistakes in your argument, go beyond isn't the infinite spin, what makes go beyond more special than Johny rotating nail is the medium on where the spin is applied, with the nail it exist in our universe but go beyond medium is an infinitely small line of string basically existing on a quantum world but now with a touch of normal spin, second josuke is far from mastering go beyond as he only thinks of it as just a regular bubble bullet but now it's invisible, heck I bet he didn't even know why it could bypass the calamity, and to back up my theory on why he hasn't mastered it yet, josuke has only uses go beyond knowingly three times, as with the Rai and wou head is him unconsciously using it.
But Kira was also introduced halfway into a part?
Is he the exception to the rule?
Tbh I wanna follow the villain or see the villain win like pucci almost did
Can we please get some love for Tooru. He's a really good character and villian but I don't why people don't understand him. He's subtle all of it was subtle, his origins, his ideals, his philosophy, his backstory was all supposed be a mystery up front but if you dig just a little deeper you understand him as a character
FINE I WILL MAKE A TOORU VIDEO

Personally, I start liking Tooru's hair once I got used to it. His design makes him stand out along with the rest of the antagonists, and I don't mind him being considered as one of the main big bads.
I see Valentine as Araki learning from Diavolo. Both have similar goals (control of a country) but Valentine is much more fleshed out and well developed as a threat from early in the story.
“Villains are gunna suck if they’re brought up at the end of the part”
Funny Valentine, Kira, And Diavolo
I think diavolo is so underated because of how he doesnt play a super active role as a villain but i love how he is this mysterious walking contridiction. It makes diavolo such an larger then life villain imo and he is just outright terrifying. Plus while diavolo himself is introduced very late his manupilation and power over the gang can be seen from the very beginning. I love that they didnt show as much of him as they did because that makes him so much more interresting and scary
I believe in Tooru supremacy
If i were araki i can fix tooru like before the death of yotsuyu he'll discuss about tooru and his plan to manipulate the world with his power will be creppy enough leading to josuke to solve more bigger problems and after the "i am the rock arc" we can finally see tooru apperance with some creepy scene were he use his ability tho and more and more scene of tooru using WOU of developing his plan and to the "pursue wou arc" i want tooru to kill jobin and norisuke :)
Your opinion on diavaolos backstory is stupid, the whole point of his backstory is myth his entire goal is to not be known or seen and that's demonstrated by his weird non sensical backstory only ever told by other people. Not everything needs to be explained when the man is literally named THE DEVIL. I wouldn't take writing advice from you
Everyone's entitled to their own opinion on things. No need to go at him for it, he may have just had a different perspective on him when he experienced the story. He might have a change of mind later on. No one's really right or wrong when it comes to impression or taste.
This man says "imma be real" so much that I'm starting to feel like he might be lying to us. What if he's actually just metaphorical

Average Tooru disliker
Honestly ranking the villains is hard because all of them are really good but here's my list:
1.funny valentine
2.DIO
3.pucci
4.kira
5.diavolo
6.kars
7.tooru
100% agree
I like tooru, I feel like unlike pucci and valentine which will makes you question which is the good guys at the end tooru is just a force of nature and I don't really consider him as a main villain because the story of jojolion is about breaking the curse, the story wouldn't end until the curse is broken so I assume the curse is the main villain.
Also a hot takes : pucci character is far more grey than valentine, maybe it's me but dooming other country just to make yours looks good is not a morally grey motivation.
Honestly I thought Tooru and the rock humans were the best villains
Personally I really like Diavolo/Doppio as villians. The split personality thing along with his mysterious past was cool. Doppio is the original personality who seems innocent but hiding something within and Diavolo being the one developed at some point presumably from some tragic event who thinks he is above everyone else with the power of King crimson being able to somewhat manipulate fate on the small scale. However later proven fate can't truly be manipulated as fate itself will find another way. This connects to part 5 having the overarching theme of learning to accept your fate.
Kars initially wanted his people to thrive, its a cool subversion of the trope
I hope tooru becomes more relevant in part 9
Did anyone else notice the fact that the title is “The Villains of *JoJo* Bizarre Adventure” instead of “The Villains of *JoJo’s* Bizarre Adventure?”
my personal ranking of the villains (how much i like them not like how well written they are)
1. Tooru
The long setup and buildup of Wonder Of U and the Head Doctor felt amazing to go through and got better with a reread because the clues were there. I just enjoyed him
2. Valentine
Hes just perfect lol
3. Kira
ok so i fucking hate this guy and i love him too
4. Pucci
probably one of the best written characters in jojo and holy shit made in heaven
4. dio
ITS FUCKING DIO
5. Diavolo
king crimson funny
6. Kars
kachow
Kira is the only main antagonist that doesn't want to take it over the world
He just want a quite life
Kars is my personal favourite. His ultimate goal was to not only unlock & unleash the full potential of himself, but also allow his people to walk and live fully & freely.
However, when he finally achieved so much, he lost so much: his race are essentially gone, he lost his best friend (Esidisi) and his 'son' (Wamu), and all because a bunch of humans got in his way. Being the Ultimate Lifeform doesn't mean everyone and anyone can stand with you...
As a bonus, he's ultimately responsible for the sufferings of the Joestar family because had he never made those Stone Masks, Dio would have gone to jail, Yoshikage Kira would have been unstoppable, and Diavolo would have become the greatest Mafioso Emperor.
I agreed with you until Tooru, I really like Tooru, he is a really well written character
Give me a well thought out reason
@@METAsMETAs Tooru is obsessed with making a mark and being known that he never was truly known by anyone and never formed memories or an impact on people nor formed bonds. That’s one of the reasons why he wants the Rokakaka .Also the fact that he never has experienced love makes it so that he is able to kill Yasuho without hesitation, he wants to have love but he can’t because he doesn’t know what love is or what it feels like. Now that Part 9's release date has been confirmed, can't wait to see the next addition to this list!
So we are gonna forget how kira was literally dropped in the middle of part 4 huh
You should really give some more attention to Diavolo, Part 5 is one of the deepest jojo parts and the villain is no exception; he embodies the ideas and themes that this part antagonizes i.e. Abacchio's partner's speech to him in afterlife; I recommend Oceaniz's videos on him, he made a ton of them and they really nail the idea of his character.
I think with Tooru Araki spent too much time on the build up of the mysteries of the part and didn't pace out his pay off. It seems like the concept of rock humans and their instinctual greed and lack of empathy was moreso the real villain of the part. Although that might be me over analyzing bad writing.
I think that it isn’t Dio that Araki was trying to remake with Pucci but Diavolo. Pucci is trying to secure fate because of a trauma he caused.
Key notes about villains in JoJo is that they’re often forces of nature, or symbolic representations of those forces. For that reason, many villains are given just enough origins as to remind the viewer they’re often at least similar to humans, even though about half of them aren’t.
dio’s origins simply explain his original plan and his motivation against Jonathan, and all that follows is how he tries to get back at Jonathan or his bloodline, often being impacted by the dealings or actions of the other villains as he does. He was shown as the “Anti-Joestar,” and of course, the “Anti-Jonathan,” but without the title “Joestar” and with a much more different personality than Jonathan, Jotaro Kujo could them be seen as the “Anti-DIO.”
Diavolo is DIO’s opposite, though ultimately very similar. Everything DIO stood for, Diavolo stood against, but had the same goals that a Joestar would hate, which is a good villain to have when the part’s JoJo is a son of DIO and of Jonathan.
Obviously, both DIO and Diavolo are also meant to represent “god” and satan, albeit since DIO’s a prick, he’s not god under christianity’s expectation. Giorno then represents Jesus Christ, and Pucci some level of a Pope figure and a prophet of god’s will.
Kars represents the ideas of purity, perfection, and being the very best by nature, which Joseph is absolutely not. Joseph does not improve his biology beyond the human limit and used his sheer intelligence to overcome the godly natures of his foes.
Valentine is, at least according to himself, the bringer of greatness, a full reflection of nationalism and of pride, and the firm belief that what one does is the right choice, no matter who challenges it, all of which Johnny lacks, being a man who simply wanted to win and to return to his feet, by many if not any means necessary.
Kira and Tooru are exceptions, as Kira is actually far more human in his presence than many other forces, and only really represents the more hidden, unclear evils that plague otherwise wondrous places, though his personality does completely contrast Josuke4. Tooru is an odd mixture of almost everything from Diavalo, Kars, Kira, and Valentine, with how his plans come about, what his goals are, what his abilities are, and what he symbolizes. He’s also not really meant to be an antithesis to Josuk8, but rather all of the Higashikatas and of Yasuho, and even then, he doesn’t really represent the opposites of their beliefs at all. He was never meant to be the “main villain,” but the final one, and the strongest one, and the deadliest one. Jobin fulfilled the antithesis role in how he pressed against all of his family, and symbolized a lot of the faults of family and of life.
True maturity is realizing Diavolo is the deepest JoJo villain
wait how tho? not that i disagree, i'm just curious bcs he's my fav villain
I’m giving my list purely based on vibes.
1. Kars because fabulous hair and waking up with 10/10 makeup look flawlessly like how did you do that-
2.Kira because vibes and serial killer plot was cool
3. Pucci because he’s got a nice story, nice design, fraternal twin representation ftw
4. Tooru because he’s got cool hair (haven’t read 8 haha)
5.Dio part 1 because he’s cool but like kinda basic
6.Valentine because he made me almost stop reading part 7 because of how uncomfortable some of his scenes were. He’s a great villain but I felt like throwing up whenever he was on. Outlast 2 type shit.
7. Dio part 3 because vibes. And character design eh
8. Diavolo. I agree, except his backstory should’ve been ENTIRELY UNKNOWN instead of knowing everything, though. It was like they wanted him to be just a creepy mysterious man, but also supernatural, and never picked one. I would’ve honestly just preferred if he was a straight up demon. We have vampires and zombies and Egyptian gods, why not? Also not really into the whole “split personality evil alter” vibe. Also lice hair lmao
One of the biggest let downs for part 8 was how they never really touched on rock human poses. Like there was a whole segment of world building that showed rock humans maturity based on their resting poses and I was so excited thinking the final villain was going to be a fully matured rock human or possibly even beyond that with the use of the new rokakaka. Felt like it was a missed opportunity for Tooru (although I didn't really like Tooru as a villain I did love his design and his stand is honestly top tier). However since I don't think Araki would just forget a major detail like that I have a feeling we might see more rock humans or off shoots of them at least in JojoLands.
Growing To Help Others Vs Growing to Help yourself: Jonathan vs Dio, Joseph vs Kars, Jotaro Vs DIO
Preservation vs Destruction: Josuke Vs Kira
Removal of Effect vs Removal of Cause: Giorno Vs Diavolo
Adversion to Fate Vs Acceptance of Fate: Jolyne Vs Pucci
Gradual Progession Vs Immediate Progression: Johnny Vs Valentine
Repurposing Vs Destroying: Josuke Vs Toru
With the dahmer netflix show out i wouldn’t be surprised if he used him as inspiration on kiras design
I feel like halfway villains mostly concentrate on lore and inner of the characters ;Kars with pillars man fates , diavolo with doppio (the duality of the two) , and tooru with the rock humans race , I think they were to be taken value/what they carry than villains themselves (it's your opinion and I respect it though)
After watching this video it is now a goal of mine to make a villain shown halfway through work
@@theganondorky7238 and make it a "good" villain ? Or concentrate more on the concept and value it bear ?
Make the villain "good"
@@theganondorky7238 nice ! Good luck to you ^^ I'm sure you can do it
Thanks chief, it will take a while but I hope someday I can accomplish this and other writing and art things.
In defense of Toru the whole thing about the Rock Humans is their pretty much just an Alternate Timeline Version of the Piller men. as well that he acted more like a Moriarty Figure to the Naritive and not like a Constant Foil to the JoJos. and in all that is said and Done Jobin in my opinion was the Primary Antagonist in Part 8. it was pretty much the reverse of Vanintine and Alt Dioago where he kinda shows up at the end.
Your videos are so good but please increase the volume I could barely hear you without headphones
I think diavolo wasn't just the user, it was mostly the stand king crimson. Moat of the times we encounter the boss it is king crimson who appears and speaks, as well as in the requiems soul swap
I agree with you aside that I like kars it’s also funny that yoshikage Kira was introduced in the middle of the part but you still like him
Diavolo is fucking awesome. He‘s meant to be a preestablished, vague threat that is unsettling because we don’t know much about him, and That’s also his motivation. Staying hidden that is. In fact, just because of his fear of being exposed, he became the head of the mafia on the first place and fractured his own personality so that no one may see his true self. It’s so creepy but awesome. Also his design is just one of the best.
Pucci on the other hand, idk. His motivations don’t make any sense, and when he seems like he has good intentions he smashes a girls head in for no reason. He doesn’t feel consistent, and the whole hypocritical villain thing was just done much better with Valentine. Pucci does have a dope design tho
i agree with your tooru opinion but like ima be honest if he was fleshed out anymore i don’t think i would’ve liked him as much as i do, becuse with a stand like wonder of u, i would expect tooru to really not want to do anything, he can simply focus on his goals, and when he has the means to try to achieve them, why change the goals, and why reveal them when you can protect yourself from the small chance of danger he has been up against. If he was shown to be super care free, but extremely stealthy and sleazy at getting what he wanted,
while kinda keeping the amount of information he gave to us the audience the same or even less, then his power would come full circle. Because he is pursuing the rock human way, and calamity is stopping people from pursing tooru, which doesn’t really allow him to understand anyone or anyone to understand him. It’s a cycle of tooru finding the way to his goals and the people after him picking up his tracks while playing to his rules. Interesting paradox that played out well until the ending
I basically simp for funny valentine
I 100% agree with you about part 7 that shits so good istg ‼️‼️
Diavolo already ruled over Italy, he wasn't seeking the requiem arrow, the story isn't about what Diavolo wants to become its about what he wants to avoid, and that is becoming known, he wants to erase his past, he's obsessed with that idea, so when he finds out he has a daughter he immediately wants to kill her himself, others cannot do it because he wouldn't be at peace with the possibility of her surviving, so he wasn't introduced at the end, we knew about him from the beginning, and once he got his daughter bruno betrayed him and saved her, Diavolo was confused by this, he honestly valued buccerati's efforts and gives him a way out before deciding to kill him.
They escaped and now the objective is reveal the identity of the boss, now Diavolo is on the defensive, ultimately the found someone who knows his name and his face, the cat is out of the bag and we meet the shadow
He wasn't introduced at the end, we just didn't get a clear look at him until the end and that's because he did everything in his power to avoid it, but we knew him, his motivation, his fear, his methods, we just didn't knew who he was.
Funny valentine has taken the first napkin in writing.
Do you feel that david bowie influnence on the design of the main antagonists, has anything to do with Araki's views on david bowie whether positive or negative.
Ooo this is a good question and yeah it does at least a little bit and mostly positive
The second tkme Esidisi shows up on the story, he's dead.
Explain how he has anything over Kars? Lmao.
