That's Robbie McIntosh, and I may be his biggest fan. He signed on with McCartney in 1988 and was with him until 1994, which is where I discovered his playing. He's had a huge influence on me as a guitarist, and he's a great guy to fans, or he was with me.
The lead guitarist is Robbie McIntosh, who, regardless of who he's been with (McCartney, John Mayer, Norah Jones, Robbie McIntosh Band, etc) has always been a huge influence on me as a guitarist.
I saw this iteration of PRETENDERS in Cleveland in early ‘84; though their showing was a fine one showcasing a fine album, I still had wished I’d been blessed to witness the unique, indelible magic of the original lineup: 40 years later, only more so!..
Not to mention 85% of Ohioans have experienced their own sprawl around the waist. Seems most of that state is comprised of fatties. It's round on both sides.
Talking Heads did a song about urban planning around the same time--The Big Country. Who writes a song about urban planning? David Byrne. Contrasted with The Big Country cowboy movie. Check it out.
They're icredible on the whole, but what a great guitarist! That's what I call a LEAD guitarist and not just a guy who can throw down a solo when the time comes!
🎉 Happy birthday to Chrissy Hynde. 9 7 This woman was born to play the guitar and sing with her band that could not pretend. This song is my personal favorite. There is nothing like loving your home. Have the best day
Totally agree. Bought it on cassette tape over here in New Zealand in '84 when it was released [Jan 21]. I turned 21 in '84 and was an apprentice truck mechanic. Rode around on my 1979 Honda XR500 motorbike and also owned a 1966 Holden HR Special car. Unfortunately the car only had a radio. However the cassette tape went everywhere with me and if ever I got the chance I would play it on a cassette deck at a party or a friend's car cassette deck. My favorite song on the album was easily 'Time The Avenger' - loved the faster rhythm of it. I was in to speed. Opening track 'Middle of the Road' was a farking excellent opening track. And how this song too? 'My City Was Gone' has a wicked bassline groove to it. I thought vocalist Chrissie Hynde was so cool. Some tragic shit went down with The Pretenders though. I mean how does a group deal with 2 members OD-ing let alone 1...
The opening riff to Time is so goddamned good. The best song, for most folks, is My City Was Gone. And rightly so. But my favorite are It’s A Thin Line Between Love and Hate and Thumbelina.
Wonder how many comps Chrissy and The Pretenders got from Rush Limbaugh all those years his radio played this song day after day and to nearly 500 stations at his peak. Had to be a nice amount.

Rush Limburger hijacked this anthem, twisting and bending the guitar notes to fit his sick agenda. The powerful lyrics fly in the face of any political blowhard who supports crap like suburban sprawl and "economic opportunities," at the expense of regular people.

I'm from NE Ohio and I can testify this woman is a truth-teller, but that dude's guitar solo mIght bring it back. EPIC !!

Kevin Nealon plays guitar…
Great tone and playing from the lead guitar player. Chrissie is spectacular as always but man, what a great band they were

One of the earliest songs to denounce suburban sprawl. I still can't visit Ohio without this track playing endlessly across the state.
Not to mention 85% of Ohioans have experienced their own sprawl around the waist. Seems most of that state is comprised of fatties. It's round on both sides.
Another Ohio band, Heartless Bastards, did a sing called "Skin and Bone" during this century. It's luke this song..version 3.0

NOW LETS GET RID OF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS. WHO VISITS OHIO? CITIES ARE EXACTLY AS BAD AS SUBURBS.
It's about the de-indistrialization of America and destruction of the middle class
I wish Ben Orr could have sat in on this song . Another Ohio native who never forgot his roots.
Timeless masterpiece.
STILL sounds fresh in 2023!
probably the best performance of that song, at that classic US festival....

I went back to Ohio
But my city was gone
There was no train station
There was no downtown
South Howard had disappeared
All my favorite places
My city had been pulled down
Reduced to parking spaces
A, o, way to go Ohio
Well I went back to Ohio
But my family was gone
I stood on the back porch
There was nobody home
I was stunned and amazed
My childhood memories
Slowly swirled past
Like the wind through the trees
A, o, oh way to go Ohio
I went back to Ohio
But my pretty countryside
Had been paved down the middle
By a government that had no pride
The farms of Ohio
Had been replaced by shopping malls
And Muzak filled the air
From Seneca to Cuyahoga falls
Said, a, o, oh way to go Ohio
wow
A-O-way to go Ohio
