  • Brother vs. Brother in this bonkers issue in which Scott gets a baffling visitor from his past and friends become foes.
CCXCC is a weekly Comic Club where we take a look at Claremont's run on X-Men, issue by issue. I have never read the whole run and John has it engrained in his DNA. I'll be looking at it from an artist's POV and John will analyze them as a writer. Join us every Wednesday as we go through the 292+ issues of Uncanny X-Men written by a master storyteller and drawn by some if the finest talents to ever grace the comics medium.
John Coats is the writer of comics, Dino Beasts and Ninja IV: Dark Vengeance, drawn by his brother, James. He is also the writer of NINJA and M.L.F. and editor of the critically acclaimed BERSERKER series by Bludgeon.

This issue was interesting with the weird dream Professor X has and that it would affect the team when this Erik The Red attacks them with a mind-controlled Havok and Polaris. I love how Storm basically powers up and crushes Polaris who is also a powerful mutant herself. Still that airport is gonna need some serious repairs and the fact is we will soon be heading into the first major arc of this sixteen-year run.

Good points Michael. Storm and Polaris are definitely on a different power level in this issue than the dudes who are basically punching each other on the ground. The space warfare holocaust is an interesting way to start the issue and it's really kind of shocking. You're not expecting it at all. Thanks for reading along with us and for the thoughts.

Those little things like collasus being a bit more prudish or reserved and nightcrawler being a little more mischievous for lack of a better term show me just how well Chris Claremont understood the characters

Yeah, Or just how to right character in general, as he was basically breathing that life into them. He certainly wasn't just going through the motions and hit the ground running as a fully formed writer. It's impressive.
