you see so many skeletons from pre war and so muchd death in fallout, but for some reason, those 2 guys who died testing a mini nuke and had sand shipped back as their ashes are one of the few that really get me. same with the fact that in the repconn headquarters, when you walk up a set of stairs, you trample this skeleton with some womans work clothes rags on it without a second thought, only to discover that specific skeletons name was jenny millet, and you now have to rpetend to be her to survive in the building, having just literally walked on her grave.
because all the death happened instantly, literally everyone was dead so there was no one to ship back the remains. There was still a country when the sand was shipped out.

I definitely don’t think Bethesda wanted to not let new players get a fat man easily. You can actually get a Fat Man as soon as you exit vault 11 by going to the Robotics Disposal Grounds, which is a very short way from the vault and doesn’t contain any major enemies other than a robot which doesn’t even attack you.
You also don't need the jet pack to get the one in Fort Strong. You can jump up to the platform using the debris that's right in front of you when you enter the place. I did it last night.
Hey don’t forget that, in the Japanese of Fallout 4, the “Fatman” is instead called the “Nuka Launcher” due to the name, reminding people of the Fat Man being dropped on Nagasaki. EDIT: I know this makes people dislike, but thanks for 650 likes. (and for keeping the comment section active)
@mike Haley The Wolfenstein games are heavily censored in Germany changing all swastika flags and calling the Reich "The Organization" or something similar, can't remember Hitler is called Heiler and he's called the Chancellor not the Führer, and yes he's missing the mustache. The reason for that are that in german child-protection law (which needs to be reformed to match the 21st century) video games are considered toys or childrens media. In Arts such as films or books and pictures theres no such censorship.
@@MeepChangeling No wonder. before they could censor without anyone noticing but nowdays people will know right away if something is censored thanks to internet, and no one like censoring just because someone is triggered.
I knew about the Davy Crockett from MGS3. As I started playing Fallout 4 back then I thought, that the Fatman was inspired also by this weapon. It's really exciting to have this confirmed.
An idea as to how fatmans and the nukes got disseminated across the nation so quickly is that after they cracked the launcher problem and successfully ran trials the project was green lit for mass production immediately. My father (who's almost '90) remembers such bs stuff being done all the time when he was serving in the U.S.C.G. way back. New stuff was constantly being pushed out and rushed into service with little testing or practicality in most cases. It wouldn't surprise me considering how desperate and slap-dash the U.S. in the Fallout-verse is that the moment it got cleared they had it's production contracted out to multiple manufactures.
also would make sense that the version Team Alpha got out was the one that didn’t run the risk of killing the operator. The rest of them are the dangerous version where you take yourself with the commies
Good example is those shark repellent safety things. One ship goes down and a good chunk of her men taken out by sharks and poof those things were everywhere. They've been disproved and removed since, but the fact that they were deployed in abundance when the testing showed only tentative results... I don't think the placebo affect works on white tips.
There is this great mod called The Power of Atom. It dramatically increases the power, size, range, and effects of Mini Nukes. No longer can you fire the thing 20ft away and remain fine. You gotta fire this thing a good 50ft or more away from your target otherwise the blast radius could kill you. There is a added "Heat Wave" to the weapon so if even the initial blast doesnt hit, the heat wave from the bomb will get them. Radiation is dramatically increased and lingers for much longer. And any enemy killed will disintegrate 100% of the time. The best part of this mod is that all these effects apply to Mutant suiciders and anyone with a Fatman too, making them even more terrifying. This mod makes the Fatman more true to it's real world counterpart. It's even on PS4 too.
Not sure, I'm a ps4 user but I would imagine it's on there too. It's a great mod, just for the love of god. DO NOT USE THE MIRV variant. You WILL die. Besides the regular mini nuke is more than enough with this mod.
True. But, this mod will make you FUCKING TERRIFIED of suiciders AND any Raiders and Gunners with Fatmen.. In the base game if you had a decent suit of power armor you could survive a mininuke. With this mod, unless you have a fully upgraded suit of t-60 or x-01 YOU WILL DIE. And without PA... it's game over. You know that raider withe the fatman and PA near the Super Duper Mart? If he sees you it's game over. Same with the Gunner atop Gunner Plaza. So it's balanced in that you're enemies will also have these as well.
It was less than a tenth of a second between it making contact, triggering the explosives, and the raider's genitals being incinerated in the explosion.
The commercial isn't exactly a problem. When I was a kid in CA, my dad was on the test crew (computer stuff) for the B2. At the time the YF-22 and YF-23 were being developed and tested at the base to see which would become the new mainline fighter for the Air Force. We saw models, toys, even commercials advertising things with these experimental aircraft in them. It is not unusual for somewhat publicly known equipment and/or vehicles in testing to be used in commercial marketing, so why would it be unusual in the Fallout universe, in a world racked with war and desperate for recruitment, to use the same kind of tactic to entice kids to want to support and/or enlist into the military?
I was just about to comment the same thing, but was looking down to see if someone else did. It would be incredibly likely that they'd flash fancy things that don't technically "work" not only to increase their recruiting numbers but also to showcase the idea of them simply HAVING such a thing. The propaganda could simultaneously be used to recruit people who wanna touch the "new shiny stuff" while also giving the enemy an exaggerated perspective of their military power.
To be fair the YF 22/23 was widely publicized nationwide since the 80s. It still has never been used in a combat deployment. Similar with the MV-22. Took them decades to get it cleared for a full deployment. I got to be on the MV-22s very first combat deployment and that was kinda neat. They were in service long before that, but had never been in a full combat deployment.
I would say that the commercial is something standard in the Fallout universe (and that the Fatman commercial doesn't go far enough like showing the kid blow up his bully graphically, but it has a happy-go-lucky theme to it ironically). One of the best examples for commercials I think in the Fallout universe is in the intro to Fallout 1 that is playing on the TV with 2 power-armored soldiers and a (probably Canadian) POW. The preceding screen is shown by Galaxy News Network and shows on text in a box in the next shot saying "Our dedicated boys keep the peace in newly annexed Canada". The POW is tied up, there are 2 soldiers there in T-51b power armor, and one of them is going to execute the unarmed POW (committing a war-crime). One them shoots the POW in the head, then the POW falls to the ground, and one of the POW's legs twitches from nerves reacting to him being executed. The soldier shoots him in the head thinking the POW is still alive (stupidly) which the POW is now not moving. The other soldier starts joyfully laughing at what's happening and the executioner looks at the camera waving like he's saying "Hi". The next clip is showing someone in T-51b armor standing proudly in front of a waving American flag in the background. I think it's trying to show of how nationalistically proud these people are of doing a war crime by showing off what and how they did it.
I honestly wish you could combine the Experimental MIRV and the Nuka-Nuke modifications and put them onto the Big Boy you buy from Arturo Ladies and gents, I give you the Nuka-MIRV Big Boy
I know where the Davey Crockett was tested at. Its in the museum where I went to for AIT in the army. Thanks for the memories that you brought back for me in this video. Thank oxhorn
I think the solution of why that room is blocked off and has loot In it is because multiple devs works on that building. The first dev might of put the loot there and the second dev not paying attention blocked it off. IT happens in development where 1 dev will do something but not tell another dev.
Considering he's with his Institute character, it's just as likely he's not coming here with the quest and thus parts of the encounter are blocked off. Bethesda did a lot of this when it comes to certain quests, and it's actually kinda annoying if you plan on not doing those quests or exploring by yourself areas first because they won't be able to be marked as 'complete'. I know similar blockoffs happen when you go to the same dungeon Paladin Danse leads you to for the start of the BoS.
The idea of the Davy Crockett was to play into the 'tactical nuke' role that was popular during the Cold War era; the intent was to fire the thing at an approaching enemy force too big or well armed for conventional armies to handle, without having to deal with the limitations of aircraft-dropped nukes (the USSR almost always outpaced the US in terms of manpower during the Cold War, so this was a serious problem). Ironically, the reason it never bore fruit (besides the obvious suppression of battlefield nuclear weapons) was the same reason you found the MIRV-Fatman to be impractical; its range was so short, and its explosive yield so high that the crew firing the thing were at risk of getting killed by the blast whenever they fired it.
it cant be because they didn't want you to get a fatman early because you could easily steal one early in goodneibor or get one in fort hagen when you kill kellogg
Yeah in one panel about game design Todd explained that the power armor, gatling gun and fat man early in the game are there to give a glimpse of what's possible, but by limiting the ammo available they give the player an incentive to play to reach that point again.
Can we get 5000 subscribers with no videos? I got one at level 2 in the robot disposal yard next to sanctuary. Used it to kill the first deathclaw. So there’s no way it’s because we’re too early in the game for sure
in the terminal it said they had already begun shipping out the mini nukes and fat man launchers. so logically a good load of them would have already arrived at Mississippi ready for distribution with more being constantly produced and those left at the fort could be one of many shipments.
There is also the possibility that they were shipping them via planes and the planes crashed when the bombs dropped. Since the planes were most likely headed not only to Mississippi but also out of Mississippi to other areas of the country, there may have been planes all over the country carrying the launchers and they all crashed when the bombs dropped. That could explain why they are all over the country. Mississippi was just the distribution center. Send them to Mississippi and Mississippi sends them out where needed.
Maybe, on October 23rd, it being 20 years of fallout and all, Oxhorn could do "The general story of The Great War, what happened when the bombs dropped, and what instigated the bombs?"
What would be more special is that this coming Oct. 23rd is exactly sixty years till 2077 in the fallout timeline, making a your idea nice Bobo, but add a chill to it, knowing we have only sixty years left till the great war. (on a side note, let's avoid the real world nuclear destruction talk, and all real world stuff for now, last thing we need is right now is debates, arguments, or worrying that we might possibly get nuked sooner than later.)
Ox did do a brief history of power armor in the 'X-01 pre-war or after war' video but i would love to hear the full history too as well as having a video of megaton, fallout 3 vaults, paradise falls, dunwich building and grey ditch.
You're supposed to use the MIRV (reference to the system which allows multiple nuclear warheads to be carried and deployed by one ICBM) like a morter and not like an RPG. On open ground against exposed enemies this can be absolutely devestating. The idea that individual soldiers are running around with portable nuclear weapons is scary at best. Just like the idea of nuclear powered cars or airplanes. The USA calls lost nuclear weapons "broken arrows" and the globe is littered with them. Crashed bombers, lost submarines, etc. And those are just the American ones. We don't know how many Soviet/Russian missing nukes are lying around. Long story short: Humans make mistakes and that mistake shouldn't involve a mushroom cloud.
Corristo89 eh with nuclear powered cars and planes the worst someone could do is make a dirty bomb. And that's pretty much just a regular bomb but with a little pizazz. It just blows a bit of nuclear material around a small location. The scare of nuclear material in a dirty bomb is more psychological than physical: the radiation from a dirty bomb from a car or a plane is negligible, but sounds scary
The blocked off stairway and upstairs rooms are technically a bug. The building was supposed to change states during the game, clearing sections of it at several stages in the same way as Cambridge Police Station. One state is during Show No Mercy when access to the elevator is cleared however the next state does not get set at the end of the quest, leaving sections of the building blocked off. The final cleared state is also unfinished, it was supposed to become occupied by Brotherhood soldiers in the same way as Cambridge Police Station (Maxson informs you of leaving a garrison there) but this was not completed. A 'fixed' version can be seen at ruclips.net/video/0J03zYFvU7Q/видео.html
That room is only blocked off when you aren’t doing the brotherhood of steel quest that had the behemoth. So if you side with the brotherhood that area of fort strong is accessible.
I always thought that was either a bug, or the devs boo-booed and added an inoperable door to access that section of the building. I def feel that area was meant to be explored.
You could explain the Fat man being everywhere because it was pressed into service very quickly as in new Vegas we learn that the military is intercepting "worrying" Chinese transmissions over the radio. Expecting a possible invasion the fat men launchers and the mini nukes were rushed in limited numbers across the entire country in order to bolster the local military and national guard forces. Hence why despite them being there they're also sparse and hard to find. Could also explain the bowling alley finding one for the bowling balls. A corrupt quartermaster who needs to ship as many as possible finds a way to get rid of one while also making a quick buck as a result.
It takes 2 tenths of a second for pain to process in the human brain. It took 1 tenth of a second for the impact to trigger the detonator, for the detonator to trigger the explosion.
The Fat Man is inspired by 2 weapons. The Davy Crockett is the first, and the PIAT launcher from WW2 is the second. Davy Crockett inspired the payload, the PIAT is the delivery system (i.e. a shoulder mounted spring launcher).
The Daniel Boone had a such a short range that the troops firing it could conceivably be inside the blast radius. Also it was phased out because someone thought it was a poor idea to give Infantryman access to atomic weapons.
These first 5 min are the type of videos I enjoy the most. The storytelling and lore as opposed to a general walk through. The in depth story behind the regular old weapons or locations and armor we see every day or walk by without notice. This is where your videos shine.Would love to see the history of the " Red Rocket " fuel stations. I can't recall anyone doing it.
Oxhorn, I feel it is long overdue for you to receive your BA in Falloutology. You have demonstrated extreme insight into the world of Fallout. Your videos are extremely precise and go into a lot of detail about the fallout universe. So, here is your degree from the University of Bethesda. That will be $59.99 for just the paper, you can pay $30.99 for the ink and it will be an extra $10.99 for signature from Todd Howard himself.
31 min in you solved the first mystery you stated ox. The rubble blocking the elevator is moved for a quest. The fat man blocked is because of a removed quest
I must be tripping but I swear I’ve gotten that fat man on console, I’ve explored the hell out of that base and I swear I’ve seen that Jangles the moon Monkey in the toilet, I’m on console too so there’s 100% a way in I just don’t remember how
could be, it's likely that the US military wouldn't be producing fat man launchers and mini nukes only at fort strong. they'd probably encrypt the files and send them to other military bases and to trusted private companies for production as well, otherwise one chinese raid could wipe out the entire production line so the military would want to ensure against that. i'd bet fort strong is just the primary research and testing ground for them.
another theory could be that since the game takes place in october, and they finished the project in september, shipments are already being delivered, and you only see a part of the total payload. Say there is 30 nuke crates at the fort when you get there, but the original manifest could be 250 crates or something. As well as sending out blueprints and etc. Besides, they didnt make the nukes and launchers at the fort, but were testing and modifying a batch and reporting back. Its a base devoted to R&D, not a factory.
I think that the Fat Man is a very "Fallout" creation. Props to Bethesda for creating something that embodies the wacky yet serious American patriotism that Fallout is known for. Great video Oxhorn!
EliteEMP I found Oxhorn's channel in 2015. He joined in 2011, but didn't he start Fallout videos late 2015? Two years ago he didn't have many videos on Fallout since Fallout 4 came out late that same year, so what did he do before then? From what I remember, Oxhorn had a very small channel when I found it; probably around ten thousand subscribers (I'm presuming that amount). Either way, I got here when he started becoming a Fallout RUclipsr.
It’s literally a part of the plot that Volgin obliterates a Soviet research facility with the Davy Crockett and sets into motion the events of Operation Snake Eater lol
The only time I used the mirv big boy was to one shot the mire luck queen in the castle. Looked pretty epic and it must have left a pretty big impression on everyone but the raiders. Why would you even dare become a raider when you know that the minutemen can one-shot mire lurk Queens?
iirc, Davey Crockett duty was inherently fatal since the payloads they launched had blast radii far in excess of their launch distance. Of course, if you ever actually deployed the damn thing in combat it was prolly because every other nuke was being used too so survival would have been a moot concern anyway.
Love how he picked up the bucket in the kitchen, fool, you use it to clip through the roof of the kitchen to the far man, then use the enamel bucket in the jangles stall to get out

you see so many skeletons from pre war and so muchd death in fallout, but for some reason, those 2 guys who died testing a mini nuke and had sand shipped back as their ashes are one of the few that really get me. same with the fact that in the repconn headquarters, when you walk up a set of stairs, you trample this skeleton with some womans work clothes rags on it without a second thought, only to discover that specific skeletons name was jenny millet, and you now have to rpetend to be her to survive in the building, having just literally walked on her grave.
because all the death happened instantly, literally everyone was dead so there was no one to ship back the remains.

WashiestDrop198 the fat man looked differnt?!?!
Alpha25 yes!!
There's a fatman in Kellogg's base before you kill him and before the Brotherhood's blimp comes in.
You also don't need the jet pack to get the one in Fort Strong. You can jump up to the platform using the debris that's right in front of you when you enter the place. I did it last night.
Also you can just steal it from behind Kleo lol
Hey don’t forget that, in the Japanese of Fallout 4, the “Fatman” is instead called the “Nuka Launcher” due to the name, reminding people of the Fat Man being dropped on Nagasaki.
EDIT: I know this makes people dislike, but thanks for 650 likes. (and for keeping the comment section active)
Common practtice in the entertaiment industry,
Also dont forget that Japanese gamers were pissed off about that change, citing it as unnecessary censorship of art.

I knew about the Davy Crockett from MGS3. As I started playing Fallout 4 back then I thought, that the Fatman was inspired also by this weapon. It's really exciting to have this confirmed.
"Remember the alamo"
I think of all the theories this makes the most sense
That's the most Fallout thing I've ever heard
also would make sense that the version Team Alpha got out was the one that didn’t run the risk of killing the operator.

It's even on PS4 too.
that's actually good but i don't think it's really balanced since you need only 1 mini nuke to kill an entire squad of enemies in an open field.
Is it on Xbox? I need this mod, to me, mini nukes are underwhelming
Yeah, about 2-3 times bigger.
In real life, the Fat Man and Little Boy were so named because they were made from different designs and thats what the silhouettes looked like.
They were also nicknamed after the two leading figures of the Mannhatan project being General Leslie Groves and J Robert Oppenheimer

Let me just say I love that you make your audio the perfect volume 😂 There are a ton of RUclipsrs who fuck up their audio but yours is 11/10
The commercial isn't exactly a problem.
Matthew Bartlett I got lost at commmercial
Matthew Bartlett where you at Edwards too?

Ironically, the reason it never bore fruit (besides the obvious suppression of battlefield nuclear weapons) was the same reason you found the MIRV-Fatman to be impractical; its range was so short, and its explosive yield so high that the crew firing the thing were at risk of getting killed by the blast whenever they fired it.
it cant be because they didn't want you to get a fatman early because you could easily steal one early in goodneibor or get one in fort hagen when you kill kellogg
you can find one a few grids from sanctuary at the junkyard. literally 3 minutes from sanctuary
Richard Head That's the first place I went on my first play through, on accident lol ran straight to it
Yeah in one panel about game design Todd explained that the power armor, gatling gun and fat man early in the game are there to give a glimpse of what's possible, but by limiting the ammo available they give the player an incentive to play to reach that point again.
You can find one in the robotics graveyard just east of Sanctuary Hills

I like to think the Fatman is meant to be used on a tri-pod, but power armor is able to carry it shoulder mounted.
Maybe, on October 23rd, it being 20 years of fallout and all, Oxhorn could do "The general story of The Great War, what happened when the bombs dropped, and what instigated the bombs?"
Hey, the Great War will take place in 60 years on the 23rd...
Huh.
What would be more special is that this coming Oct. 23rd is exactly sixty years till 2077 in the fallout timeline, making a your idea nice Bobo, but add a chill to it, knowing we have only sixty years left till the great war.
Basiclly meaning, put it on a Ballistic track
That’s kinda f**ked up
Corristo89 So are we not supposed to defend ourselves? Should we have just wasted more resources on Japan and American lives?

The blocked off stairway and upstairs rooms are technically a bug. The building was supposed to change states during the game, clearing sections of it at several stages in the same way as Cambridge Police Station. One state is during Show No Mercy when access to the elevator is cleared however the next state does not get set at the end of the quest, leaving sections of the building blocked off. The final cleared state is also unfinished, it was supposed to become occupied by Brotherhood soldiers in the same way as Cambridge Police Station (Maxson informs you of leaving a garrison there) but this was not completed. I like listening to these. They're like a story, a walk through and a Easter egg hunt like Jangles the moon monkey doing his business.

Maybe the schematics for the mini nukes and fat man were sent to weapons manufacturers and mass produced while also being shipped from fort strong.
could be, it's likely that the US military wouldn't be producing fat man launchers and mini nukes only at fort strong. they'd probably encrypt the files and send them to other military bases and to trusted private companies for production as well, otherwise one chinese raid could wipe out the entire production line so the military would want to ensure against that. i'd bet fort strong is just the primary research and testing ground for them.
another theory could be that since the game takes place in october, and they finished the project in september, shipments are already being delivered, and you only see a part of the total payload.

It’s literally a part of the plot that Volgin obliterates a Soviet research facility with the Davy Crockett and sets into motion the events of Operation Snake Eater lol
@@kazuhiramikami8620 Yup. Loved Snake Eater. One if my favorite games.
@@kingjamization yup, exactly.
The only time I used the mirv big boy was to one shot the mire luck queen in the castle. Looked pretty epic and it must have left a pretty big impression on everyone but the raiders.
Why would you even dare become a raider when you know that the minutemen can one-shot mire lurk Queens?
Especially when you can craft MIRV Miniguns 😂!
The Davey Crockett is insane haha. I didn’t know that existed, thanks.
iirc, Davey Crockett duty was inherently fatal since the payloads they launched had blast radii far in excess of their launch distance. Of course, if you ever actually deployed the damn thing in combat it was prolly because every other nuke was being used too so survival would have been a moot concern anyway.
For the MIRV launcher to work aim it up for the spread to spread over
@stock and static turtle, yes but before you do that take a mysterious serum for that 50% dmg. Resist
Perfect spot for a mirelurk den.
Love how he picked up the bucket in the kitchen, fool, you use it to clip through the roof of the kitchen to the far man, then use the enamel bucket in the jangles stall to get out
