  • After enjoying a beautiful night at Poison Butte, we hike 12(ish) miles to the famous Hunter's Cabin. This section of desert is extremely dry with no water or shade and lots of dustnados. The road walk that is almost the entire Owyhee Desert, can easily become 3-4 inches thick with mud during rainy season. At mile 23.4 (give or take) is where the trail veers from the road and you cross a field for a mile before intersecting with the road again. There is a fence that you have to cross that was recently put up for livestock.
Make sure to bring either an umbrella and/or a hat and long sleeves! Even though it's hot, I'm so grateful that I decided to switch to pants and a long sleeve because no amount of sunscreen was keeping my skin safe from being deep fried.

I wonder if she made it. The ICT is your true premier wilderness experience. No trail in alot of places and one of the, if not the most remote to hike in the US where air drops for supplies is a must. Idaho has the most wilderness area of any other state i believe. This trail is definitely not for a newbie to distance hiking. Nothing is impossible but if she actually made it, that's some serious street cred! Lol

Funny story... I actually didn't make it. I ended up by myself in the Sawtooths and I fell down this switch back into a creek and I got majorly lost and realized I was not prepared enough. BUT, I'm heading back out there in three weeks to try again. Gotta catch everyone up first lol.

@@brianfairweather7298 I’m starting at Hunter Creek because I have less time this year :( but I live in Mountain Home so I’m really close to all the southern portion of the trail and I hike those parts of the trail often. Are you part of the ICT Facebook group? If not, you should join it. It’s a great resource for planning your trip. Whether a thru-hike or section hike.

@@wyntermoseley8773 oh nice! Yeah you are pretty close to the southern portion. Im up in Lewiston. No, i dont do social media anymore. But thats a good thing to keep in mind for a resource. Did you use any books as resources on the ICT? Where did you gather your data beside the Facebook group? Just curious

@@brianfairweather7298 yes! There is a pretty outdated book written by the founders of the trail, it’s called Discover Idaho’s Centennial Trail by Stephen Stuebner.
It’s outdated but you can still get a general idea of what to expect. There’s a couple who hiked the trail back in 2018 and they are currently working on a guide book! It should be published here in the next few months. Their names are Lisa and Jeremy Johnson so keep an eye out for that book, it’ll be the most up to date and accurate resource.

The bottom strand of wire on the fence is not barbed because pronghorn go under fences, not over them.
