      Both definitely had a hand to play in the matter. Pokemon devs have said in interviews while they were designing RBY that the reason they ended up having trading is because they were inspired by the old DQ games they played and wished they could trade their rare item drops. Not to mention a HUGE number of RBY Pokemon are just Dragon Quest monsters in a different artstyle AND serve the exact same roles in battle or the world like Pidgeotto just being the EXACT same bird as Bludgrigar and being a relatively early, common monster or how Nidoran is just Spiked Hare and even has a skill for boosting its damage early whether it be Focus Energy or Psyche Up.

      @@ASkeleton I don’t take most mobile games seriously, but most Paid Mobile Games are actually decent, especially ports of games, including the entire DQ library that was ported up till now (1 to 8 with 7 being Japan Exclusive). I get your point, but if you could connect a controller, for example, or simply just try your best to manage with the mobile controls (which note, we’re specially optimized for mobile, and in my opinion, are incredibly convenient and allow traveling through menus very easily after an hour or two of use) you probably will enjoy it. Convenience features go a long way to improve these ports. DQ4 adds Party Chat, DQ5 adds easier recruiting, all the ports have quick saves and auto saves actively available, and DQ8 adds instant Alchemy Pot with no waiting time between recipe crafting

    Dragon Quest V AKA the one where you almost get cucked by a horse.
    It is the Final Fantasy VII of the Dragon Quest series. The proof for this statement is that they're both considered the best games in their respective series by fans, sometimes even appearing side-by-side in lists (see: Famitsu Top100 from 2021), and in Itadaki Street on the PS2, Cloud gets paired up with the DQ5 Hero in the Opening cutscene.
    I only played the Super Famicom version, but I intend to play the other two releases in the future. The main gripe I had with DraQue V was that there can only be 3 party members at a time. This I found rather disappointing as it meant that I'd rarely have Monsters in my party since I wanted to use Sancho and my son instead. But this is also the only version with a glitch that allows you to recruit Monsters with a 100% success rate.
    One last thing I'd like to mention are the commercials. Following the theme of DraQue CM's being set in foreign countries, the DS commercial has Dutch actors and was filmed near a port in England. And in all three commercials (SFC, PS2, DS), the Hero marries Bianca. It's no wonder 95% of players chose her. Even Deborah was only added in as a joke. It's incredible how influential the concept of "two girls vying for the player character's attention, but one is more prominent than the other" was to future games.

    Hmm...
    Bianca vs Nera vs Debora.
    Bianca actually has the higher HP/MP between her and Nera. Her stats are slightly more favourable early on compared to Nera (at least through level 20), however Nera has FAR higher Strength and higher Resilience in the end and they even out around 20 and then go their separate ways. Plus Nera has a better spell tree (she gets Kaboom and starts with Midheal). Bianca has no special spell that makes her stand out.
    Debora on the other hand, is the trophy wife when it comes to stats and equipment. She has Bianca's HP, Nera's Strength, and the highest Resilience stat of the three. She even starts out stronger than the other two, nevermind her level 99 stats. However Debora's armour selection is vastly reduced, especially in Shields (she has ONE, though it does have 1 def more than the Scale shield the other two are stuck with...however her resistance armour options are limited by comparison). She makes up for this by having access to all double hit weapons (the extras being additions specific to her), the Hela's Hammer (so she's a metal destroyer), and several swords and claws that make her far more useful as a physical attacker due to having on-hit status effects (sleep from the Dream Blade, poison from the Cobra Claws).
    However Debora's spell tree is abysmal by comparison. She doesn't have several useful spells both Bianca and Nera have, no Kafrizzle, and unlike her sister, no Kaboom. She just gets Kasizzle.
    Debora's party chat is also very unique and quite fun, and she goes through the most radical change of the three in the 3rd generation. Though she's not like Nera who literally wants to get into her husband's pants 24/7. Nera is a sex fiend. Nor is she as into spooning and reminiscing as with Bianca's chat. However she does develop appreciation and respect for her husband.

      I have a feeling you'll be one of the few to really get into DQ6. Maybe not 7 given just how long it is and all the forced returns to old haunts, which would have been made much smoother had there been 1. new dungeons in the present for most of them, and 2. zoom works in the past and carries over into the present so you aren't forced to get on the ship each time. Though the class system in 7 might be more interesting for you given options...I hope you prebought at least a digital copy of 7 on 3DS prior to the store shutting down, as it's going to become very expensive for the next 6 months, maybe 1 year...small chance for a bit longer.
      Though I will say that the general themes in 6 and 7 are better suited to long-term play, though you'll hit that same wall that most of us have felt for years...ONE THEME throughout for the regular battles. God I wish Sugiyama were asked to make more general battle and overworld themes after certain scenarios/situations happen. At least in 7 you'll have three overworld themes that swap out...there's present, past before beating the bosses, and past after beating the bosses.

    • @nightfall3442
      @nightfall3442 Год назад

      @@ASkeleton speaking of the wives, there is this misconception regarding bianca that I notice, mainly people claim she is the canon one which there isn't actual evidence in-game or even spin offs like heroes (both of which are portrayed the night before the wedding) that even imply it (heck the movie near the end is straight up "this isn't canon"). it's also kind of funny how in the original SFC version Bianca's fate was dark and that knowledge sunked in the remakes (hence hearing things like Bianca becoming a bar maid) which in ps2 and ds they removed it and instead it becomes laughably anti-climatic namely her dad where they make it seem like he is about to die only to be completely ok afterwards regardless who you choose it's the most blatant guilt trip I have ever seen

    • @ignasia7230
      @ignasia7230 Год назад

      @@nightfall3442 You say misconception, then go on the argue in the game, not just the movie, why she is in fact the canon wife. The guilt trip correlated to her history with the Hero and how much time she spent with him (weeks is implied for the ghost castle and meets him twice over a period of what is meant to be 6 months).
      Then there's the fact that in the original game you never meet Nera until entering her father's town for the first time. They only added in that scene in the DS to help give some connection and reduce the guilt over Bianca.
      You're also supposed to pick up your old friend Saber using Bianca's Ribbon just after having helped Harry get in good with Maria whom you know he's in love with (and saving his brother, and restoring his position in the court). This is meant to tie you to the idea of relationships just after Harry can finally pursue his love. Which ends up in a marriage you get invited to in the very next town (after having learned Zoom anyhow).
      So you're already walking into Briscotelli's place with having just witnessed a Marriage of your best friend, and the last tie-in for your own life and love was using Bianca's Ribbon.
      Nevermind the dialogue Bianca has in the Water Cave, what her father says to you BEFORE you speak to her, and just after. That heavily indicates how she's put off marriage proposals from many men because she wants you specifically and cannot think of anyone else to settle with. That she's always thought about you and talked about you...blah blah blah. Then there's the DS party chat which only further cuts your heart out for letting her go (which is probably why they toned down what happens to her if you don't pick her in the DS since they doubled down on the lead-in with the extra dialogue.
      EDIT: Lest I forget the added dialogue related to Crispin and his devotion to Nera. Plus Nera's hidden feelings for him they added to the NPC chatter. So you feel like a total asshole in denying him the love of his life. Though at least how it's phrased in the DS (maybe it's the localization), they do tamp down Nera's feelings as more platonic with potential for more.

The complains with the battle system was not appropriate cuz every dragon quest game I have played was an "oomph kasap fest" imo even dqiv had this and dqxi had this and trying another way of fighting bosses would led to a fail. I really liked your comments on DQ5, I can relate a lot. Before I played it I had waayyy too high expectations because of how praised the game is by everyone in the community, so I played it convinced that this was going to be the best RPG that I would ever play. Wasn't the case at all, I actually had to force myself to get to the end trying to deny how boring the game was feeling to me. My problem was the combat, which is, for me, the most important aspect for an rpg to be enjoyable; I was so disappointed of how flat the combat was, as you mention, you can defeat every single boss with the same strategy, the game doesn't allow any type of creative or personal way of combat at all, the only thing the game expects from you is to put the time to level up enough so you can beat the boss with the same flat strategy over and over again. That's not a challenge, it's just wasting a lot of your time in a boring non-thinking process of smashing the A button non stop.
    But yeah, it's just because I'm judging it by today standards, back in the day was more than revolutionary and inspired the pokemon mechanics, which I like a lot more
