This has quickly become one of my favorite channels. It's super refreshing to see someone taking a detailed and objective look at things rather than just riding the hype train and relying on clickbait/hyperbolous reviews. Would you consider taking a look at niner's rip 9 rdo? Thanks for the awesome content!
Cheers :)
Thanks for the compliment. It might be a bit before I do a video, but I have looked at the Niner over on Patreon if you're interested.
@@TrailPOV thanks for the timely response - I'll check it out when I get the chance!
Haven't visited this channel since diving back into school and becoming super busy, but I sure hope you come back to bring us more!
Alas haven't been doing videos for ages now. But have been doing analyses over on Patreon if you're interested #shamelessplug
This is the exact video I was looking for and low behold you just posted it. Amazing!
Sweet 🤘
Oh Yeah I have been thinking about how this Suspension performs, You should do the Grim Donut from Pink Bike that would be interested
The Grim is truly bonkers
I love tons of data I can’t understand, it’s like eating blindfolded! Lol
Interesting simile
lol I can actually realte to this. Now im pretty much full from watching almost all of the videos
I've been riding my 2021 meta am seen November. I agree with you 100% I have no problem keeping up with lower travel bike climbing.
Nice!
You should keep doing these videos! There is new and exciting suspension designs coming out all the time! Can you review the digit datum?
Hi Trevor. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I have continued to look at bikes over on Patreon if you're interested #shamelessplug
Look at the Privateer 161 or 141 please!
Also, great video, once again
Thanks for the compliment and suggestions
I second that
Nice work mate. Interesting and informative, keep it up 👍🏽.
Thanks very much!
Would love to see an analysis of the We Are One Arrival, as people have said so many good things about it's 152mm of travel
If you're interested, I have a summary of it over on patreon.com/trailpov #shamelessplug
These videos need to come back. The one channel that actually gets straight to the numbers.
Haha. I've moved the channel over to Patreon as the videos took way too long and I couldn't do them and hold a full-time job anymore
@TrailPOV I can respect that but I miss having someone that cut through all the marketing hype and personal opinions about bikes and just giving me the objective facts.
Just met your pops at the Bracky Bean! Love your content man 🙌🏼
That's cool. I'm guessing he was wearing his very distinctive shirt. Or how else did you recognize him?
Loved the video
Could you please make a video on the new Nukeproof mega please.
Keep up the great work!!!
Thanks for the input
Commencal clash next pls
I've reviewed the 2023 Commencal Clash over on patreon if you're interested #shamelessplug
Love these videos, they really help me understand how to understand the suspension kinematic graphs. Thanks so much!
Glad you like them!
Great video!
Pleease make a video about Mondraker Superfoxy
Thanks for the suggestion
Great vidéo as always . And a review of the propain tyee would be great. They have a really interesting design
Thanks for the compliment and suggestion
Thank God I found your channel! There are few places where you can find videos of the suspension kinematics! I would like to see something similar for COMMENCAL CLASH 2021-2022.
Thanks for the suggestion
great video
you can make a video of the marin alpine trail 8 vs alpine trail xr ?
Thanks!
Great work! It would be really awesome to see you cover the design of the canyon spectral some time.
Thanks for the suggestion
Thank you so much for this review. I have been waiting for it. I currently have a 2018 Meta AM, but my 2021 version is showing up in January. I Can't wait.
Awesome. Hope you like it!
January? I was informed mine comes April 21 :(
@@freekodry When did you order?
@@mtbohana a month ago, but I heard all the brands are having problems with getting components
@@freekodry I ordered 2 months ago. Maybe thats why I'm getting my bike in January. Meta AM Essential in Gun Metal.
I bought a meta 2020 and a few weeks later they launch the 2021 version.
I feel relief now knowing that the kinematics are similar. Thanks
The geometry is completely different and way more agressive, the geometry does like 75% of the difference and from my experience feels way better, you shouldn't compare them only by kinematics numbers and also by feel and geometry.👍
If you love your new bike then all good 🤘
Thank you! You read my mind!
I love your videos, thanks for all of the effort that you put in! I would be really interested to hear what you have to say about either Pole or Fracebike’s designs, I’m sure you would really help put some of their ideas into a digestible perspective!
Never even heard of Fracebike. Thanks for the compliment and suggestions
I wanted this review so much, great video as always. Also wanted to say that I support the comments that suggest looking at the new privateer models. Also, the new Vitus range would be interesting to see imo
Thanks for the input!
I’ve been looking forward to this bike for a while great work man 👍
Thanks! 👍
I love your videos man. Very informative. Can you please do an analysis of the GT Fury 2014-2018 Suspension Design with the IDRIVE and how and why it won several DH world cups with the Athertons and even went into Redbull Rampage with Kyle Strait in 2014 despite being a linear single pivot.
Alas I am no longer doing videos, but I am still analyzing bikes over on Patreon if you're interested. #shamelessplug
Excellent analysis!
I would like to see an analysis on Ghost Riot 2021!
Thanks for the suggestion
I used to have the 2020 and I now ride the 2021. Let me tell you, the change is HUGE, and for the better. The new bike feels much faster and planted, and is much more comfortable for pedaling.
Thanks for the feedback. Happy Trails!
Hi there - it is about the 2021 AM. It the rear suspension stiffens under braking or remain active? Thanks
There's a bunch of new bikes out. Please make some more of these incredible videos!
I just gotta stop working 6 days/wk at my normal job so I finally have some time to put some more vids out.
@@TrailPOV ya that's rough
Great channel and explanations.
You should do one about GT's I-drive and AOS. Please!
Thanks for the suggestion!
@@TrailPOV
It is an unique platform loved by many. AOS is very underrated.
I would love to see the meta tr29 2022!! I have been ridding it all year and I’m blown away at how fun this bike is. 🙏 thanks
Thanks for the suggestion
Fabulous work as usual Sir.
Many thanks!
Hey can you please do another skiing video at cypress I loved that video and I heard the conditions there are pretty good lately also I love ur vids
COVID and Cypress skiing is difficult due to the booking system and very long lineups :( But glad you enjoyed the video
@@TrailPOV I went yesterday and if you go to lifts like sky chair and ravens ridge the lines take about 5 minutes especially if you go and a week day
@@lumpy-ball-1237 Nice. I'd love to fit in a weekday ski. This thing called work seems to get in the way :P
Great work! Please do the Norco Sight (29). I think they have taken a different approach to others. Cheers
Thanks for the input!
Congrats on 10k, loving the content and keep up the good work, should try get the specs of the Pinkbike Grim donut!
Thanks very much!
Great content! Would be great to see a split pivot/abp review, to all the words around their claims on active suspension while breaking.
Thanks. Both suspensions are definately on my radar.
Please make a video about suspension like
NS Soda / Transition Bottlerocket
This is bikes for freeride, and I'm pretty interesting in this type of suspension!
Thanks for the suggestions
you should make a video on esker's orion design by Dave Weagle. Awesome video as always. love your channel and content. Keep it up!
Thanks for the input. I ended up looking at this suspension design for a Patreon member. Very interesting which some distinct differences especially when it comes to wheel path.
hello.. thank you for uploading new content
Try Mega 290 dude, excellent videos!!!!
Thanks!
Yes, the Mega 290!
Awesome content, would love to see the TR version of the Meta!
Thanks for the suggestion
How would one calculate anti-rise and anti-squat values for a 6-bar suspension such as the DW6 system on Atherton Bikes? That particular system uses a layout similar to a Horst-link, but the lower bar is connected to the front triangle by two short, counter-rotating links instead of a fixed pivot. I'd assume one would treat it as a 4-bar system, with the lower link extending from the pivot near the axle to the instant center of the short links (so the lower bar would change throughout the travel), but I'm not sure if that's correct.
I haven't actually taken a look too closely at this platform, but I now am intrigued....
@@TrailPOV I think my assumption was correct, according to this article: pinkbike.com/news/pinkbike-poll-whats-your-favourite-suspension-system.html . I was unaware of this particular system until recently, but it seems very interesting. Atherton doesn't publish any kinematics as far as I'm aware, so maybe you could do a video on this in the future? The Orion system (also by Dave Weagle, of course) on the Esker bikes also seems interesting, but those are both fairly boutique and would be more for fun than for helping potential buyers.
@@theshortestcharles6886 Thanks for the link. I have actually looked at the Orion system for one of my Patreons and it definitely does have some advantages especially when it comes to wheelpath
Can you make an analysis on the Propane Hugene?
Congrats for this amazing content! A comparison between the different rear suspension regarding the number of pivots would be awesome! I'm referring to the differences at mobile or fixed linkage between the "chain stay" and "seat stay".
Thanks for the suggestion
Congrats on the subs!
Thanks very much!
I love these videos! Can you do the Propain Tyee?
I ended up taking a peek at the Tyee over on my Patreon page patreon.com/trailpov
Great vid
Thanks!
Is there any chance you will continue these analyses? I would love to hear what you have to say about the new suspension on the Commencal Meta V5.
Happy New Year! I've moved entirely to Patreon as a result of the significant time savings in doing datasheets rather than videos. Hope you'll join me over there.
Yay thank you! You might've not seen but I requested this bike . Cheers
No problem 👍
I would be very excited to see an analysis of the Jamis 3VO suspension.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Appreciate all the work that goes into your videos! Would love to see you cover Niner's CVA suspension like on the Rip 9 RDO or WFO. I ride a Rip 9 and I have to say that Niner's suspension is possibly the most advanced and unique in the industry. Would be great to get your analysis on it. Thanks!
Thanks for the input. I have taken a look at the Niner over on my patreon page if you're interested #shamelessplug
@@TrailPOV Makes sense. Thanks.
@@TrailPOV Oh, no more videos though? Just a PDF? Ok. Would be nice if you continued the videos on the Patreon page.
@@flexmtb Unfortunately the video's take 40+ hours to animate so decided it's better to do PDFs so you all can get the data and I can put out more content consistently.
I’d like to see a suspension review for the propain spindrift or tyee.
Thanks for the suggestion. Data for the Tyee and more is currently available on my Patreon page if you're interested. #shamelessplug
This explains why the Meta AM 29 comes stock with the maximum volume spacers in the rear shock
That would make sense
And it’s still not enough!! I’m going to get my shock revalved and hope it’s enough...
Amazing Video!!! I was wondering if you have any sugesstions for good literature to write an scientific work about the physiks of the rear suspension of mountainbikes. Thanks
Great video..I'd be interested to see you do a review on the new 2022 canyon spectral mullet and explain why they choose a coil shock vs the rest of the spectral line up has air shock.
Thanks for the input
You should do a video comparing the Canyon Torque to the YT Capra 27.5.
Great content 🤙
Glad you think so!
I'm glad I opted out of a coil shock. The commencal guys talked me out of it.
Good choice
Great video, really like the details covered here. With the new StumpJumper suspension ditching the Horst Link, one idea for a video would be to compare the suspension design/behaviors of the old vs. new StumpJumpers.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Hello! You made a great video! I love it!! Can you do a video on KTM Prowler next time? I like this Austrian brand mountain bike so much, but I can't find its reviews on the Internet...
Thanks for the compliment and suggestion. I know KTM for their motorbikes, not their MTBs.
Oh... Thanks for your reply!! I like KTM's mountain bikes very much, although they seem to be very obscure, few people are riding them... KTM prowler is my bike now, I wish someone could analyze this beautiful guy... I don't know whether the car is good or not
Do you know "KTM prowler"? It looks so handsome. May I ask you to do a video of it? This is "KTM Prowler.www.flidistribution.co.uk/2020-ktm-prowler-sonic-1
Where have you gone, we need to see more reviews on RUclips
Even if there just summary’s
I've headed over the Patreon entirely with many many more reviews. Mostly because I had to take up a full-time job during Covid.
Very nice channel. I would love to see the new Propain tyee and Hugene versions and their p10 version of a vpp
Thanks for the compliment and suggestion. You could always join me over on Patreon to see the Tyee #shamelessplug
Hey there again! I’ve got libreCAD and am wondering how you figure out the leverage ratio and the shocks progressiveness, is there a formula...because I’m wanting to calculate the wheel rate of a bike so I can analyse it and understand its performance! Thanks 😊 great vid too, always interesting and informative!
Well that would just put me out of a job if everyone knew how to do it ;)
Max I feel you man! TrailPOV if you aint gonna take on suggestions for bikes in the comments section, at least let the man know how to do it himself. You got real fans here, don’t let ‘em down
@@excusegenerator2098 If you plot the motion of all the pivots and the calculate the incremental movement of the wheel vs the shock through the travel you can easily calculate LR. As for progressiveness, that is based on the slope of the LR line.
Very nicely produced videos! Where do you get all the measurements for the moving parts of the bike to do your calculations?
Thanks. I try to get all my data from Cad drawings that I simulate linkage movements and then calculate the various params using a giant excel spreadsheet.
great vid ! could you pls do a comparison on commencal clash 2020/2021 ?
This video is good! I watched it before buying the 21 meta. And I rode that to some good results for the last 3yrs!
I had the coil and it wasn't good. I tried an air which improved things. But I couldn't help but feel this bike caught on sq edged bumps and felt overly harsh. Could this be attributed to a shorter chainstay? With less an arc to get over bumps. Interested to see the correlation between chainstay length and and square edged performance.
Have since got a megatower and it feels like a magic carpet in comparison over the same bumps.
Good feedback. Glad you find a bike you like!
How come you didn't like the coil? Also how tall are you and what size meta? I have a feeling bikes with less progression feel better for lighter rider since they can get away with a lighter spring rate for small bump compliance and can still make use of full travel.
@ashkonsenaati8530 it would blow through the travel unless using a really heavy spring.
I had max volume spacers in the air and ran it pretty firm. It was an XL and I am 84kg 6'3
Very good and informative video - Thank you. Could You please do the Nukeproof Mega 2021, and how does it compare to the old 2020 frame model please - Thanks in advance. Liked, and subscribed, regards
Thanks for the suggestion!
Can you breakdown the 2021 trek slash??
Loving the videos, keep them up
Thanks for the compliment and suggestion
Nice analisys once more! Are you thinking analising Propain Tyee or Canyon Spectral?
Thanks. Its very possible one of those might be next
Hello, I congratulate you on the video. I like your way of explaining. Would it be possible to compare the geometry of the Polygon Siskiu N9 bicycle?
Thanks for the suggestion and compliment
Super awesome just got one of these and put a coil on it despite the numbers I really like it.
Nice. Enjoy!
@@TrailPOV Could you do a Kona Hei Hei next it's a single pivot down country bike that incorporates flex stays into the design I think that could be super interesting from an engineering perspective.
@@eastcoastcruisin4071 Flex stays are such a difficult thing to model. One can estimate this middle of a link as a pivot, but ultimately one would need some simulation software to show how a beam will actually bend along it's entire length
@@TrailPOV makes perfect sense, Kona assumes that it flexes 5mm cause of how the shock is setup the stroke would only give 5mm of travel but it is marketed as a 120mm front and rear trail bike.
yow nice content very informative... btw can you also include KHS enduro bike thanks.
Thanks for the suggestion
Subscribed. Great visuals and explainations. I would love to see an analysis of the Banshee Rune v3. I just went from a Reign which you've assessed to this and I can't believe how different it feels (better). All manufacturers your their own benefits but I wonder if the numbers support this...or is it just placebo. Thanks!
Thanks for the compliment. Glad you like the content!
Thanks for doing this!
Glad to help out
Please come back and make more videos
I wish I had way more time to do this but life is keeping me very busy. Feel free to join me over on Patreon if you want to geek out #shamelessplug
Could you make a video on explaining a LTS suspension design on the 2021 GT Force. Love your videos.
Thanks for the input.
Awesome linkage review. Could you do a review about single (high) pivot downhill bikes (Commencal, Norco) Why is this design that successful?
Thanks. You could take a look at my review of the Forbidden Druid that has some characteristics of the DH bikes you mention, but shorter travel
Howdy Matt, what software do you use to create the graphics as well as the graphs? I’m hoping to break into the industry and have been studying suspension designs for a few years… been drawing and measuring on paper!! Thanks!
The Adobe Creative Suite. Good luck
Very good explanation! Is there any difference between the Meta AM and Meta TR?
Thanks. While I don't have the numbers in front of me, their linkages look very similar leading me to believe they will have very similar suspension characteristics
@@TrailPOV I was thinking the same. thx for you answer! Something for you to think about it, is that the coil shock could be an option in proven and steep terrain cause of the specific anti-Squat of this Bike. Make that sense?
Great informative video as always!
Are you taking the geometry-data directly from the pictures by counting pixels?
As much as possible I take the geometry data from 2D CAD diagrams of the bike. Alternatively I use a photo along with geometry data from shock length and chainstay length to account for the perspective effect cause by the camera that elongates the far corners of a bike photo
@@TrailPOV
Where do you finde the 2D CAD diagrams of all those bikes?
Im an engineering student and so far i was doing measurements of my bike by taking pictures from as far away as possible and then taking the crankarm or shock length as scale for counting pixels...
Which Software do you use? Are you using Linkagex3? Thanks ! Love your content ! I discover a new passion there added to that of riding the bikes !
Using my own spreadsheet for the calculations and Adobe suite for the animations
@@TrailPOV Okay, insane job, thanks !
Can you take a look at the Norco Shore. I'm curious what the anti-rise values are and also how the idler effect the anti-squat with the high pivot design.
Thanks for the suggestion
Amazing videos! I would love a comparison between the 21-22 YT Izzo and the 2022 Scott Spark 900 series.
I should add that I am trying to choose my next bike and I am looking at an Ripmo AF or an Izzo but the Spark 2022 is big news in the market..
Should hopefully have a review of the Spark over on Patreon in the next month
do you think decreasing chainring size to a 30t or even a 28t would have a significantly negative effect on the suspension and or brake jack given its slight rear axle path?
Based on the math, the different between those two chainring sizes is negligible
Love the vids, great work 👍 could we get a nukeproof mega analysis? Thanks!
Thanks for the compliment and suggestion
Could you do a video on pull shocks (fox dyad, equalizer 3)? It probably won't be the most popular topic for you, but it will be super geeky, which I think you do better than anyone. I own a Cannondale Trigger with the fox dyad rt2, and the rear suspension feels so different, but the performance is absolutely amazing.
Thanks for the suggestion. Definately going back a couple of years when pull shocks were the hot topic
great content, can you make a video about Orange single pivot?? please??
Thanks for the input
It is amazing how many people run coil on the META TR & 29.
I would love to see a writeup on the Revel Rascal, do you have someplace to vote on this?
Thanks for your effort, love watching these!
While I haven't looked at the Rascal, I have looked at the Revel Rail which I'd imagine has a similar suspension philosophy
@@TrailPOV oh cool, somehow i missed that. Thank you, just watched it 👍 love my CBF Rascal, works incredibly well.
I run a coil on mine but a progressive coil the meta am loves it it’s awesome
Could you make a video for the 2022 Commencal clash
If possible can you make a video on what you would design if you were creating your own bike.
Ooooh, that would be a really tough one to do as there are so many compromises to think about
Amazing video! It will be very appreciated if you would make a video abou the new cube stereo 170 soon.
