  • Cutting & carving wood with an Angle Grinder can be difficult and even dangerous without a proper blade. Here I test and Review the Graff Speedcutter which is specifically built to cut and carve wood quickly. Made of steel, it has three tungsten carbide teeth and fits perfectly into a standard grinder.
Here you'll see me cutting and power carving wood, proving it can be done, and allowing you to draw your own conclusions about this blade.

Your advice on using the small tooth circular is absolutely correct. This has caused a deep wound on my left hand around 10 inches long a month ago; still recovering. I shall burry the blade and request all ' please never use the small tooth circular saw blades'.

Thank you for sharing that Bramha. I'm sorry to hear about your injury and wish you a swift and full recovery.
I'm willing to guess it was kick-back that caused your trouble. It's nasty and causes far too many accidents.
You're advice is exactly right - use the correct blade for the job.

Its true. @@vogman Too late that I watch this. My grinder with the circular saw was kickback and cut along my ankle near to my tendon but did not cut my tendon, praise the Lord. I was foolish to work on the floor. My cut was 3 inch long and needed 11 stitches and had a cast on my foot for about 12 days.

Great video. Thanks for demonstrating everything this blade can do. Was concerned about kick back when using such a blade on an angle grinder - and with similar blades, people have complained about it. But I think I'll give the one you demonstrated a go as you seemed very happy.

Props to you for propagating for a safe alternative to normal diamond cutting disks, I feel as if stores should be doing more on educating the buyer of what are the dangers of what they are buying.
RUclips is where most modern DIYers start woodworking, and when you've got videos such as "how to build a circular saw in 10 minutes" aimed at beginners, it can be very dangerous.

I'd love to bring this to some community woodworking shop with that typical non-productive feminine rehabilitation culture. In the midst of some stupid mindfulness discussion between some members you fire up your angle grinder and make a loud high-pitch noise while making great cuts instantly while another member is struggling with an worn down handsaw. After they run to you in shock at how quickly their ambiance is destroyed you act completely oblivious as there are other ways to cut wood. Love it!

I use them professionally on metal and this is the best advice. Keep it under control and let the grinder cut or grind for you. Do not force it into a cut or grind or it can kickback.
Also keep your hands positioned to easily disengage the trigger.
Do NOT remove the guard. Unplug it before switching discs or moving the guard. The guard is meant to protect you from a disc exploding.

As useful as it would be to cut clapboards to new window installation exterior trim, the consequences of the slightest slip up are frightening. Maybe with a foot switch so both hands are on the tool? I'll reluctantly give a coarse diamond segmented a try but I really should commit to the oscillating tool.

As a wood carver I can thoroughly recommend the Graff, it has become my most favoured angle grinder companion. The Saxton is a similar make and quality. This disc will last a long time if handled with care, always keep both hands on the grinder and watch the rotation, it must also match the grain, never work against it. Safety is taking your time on a project, this is a reliable disc and one I couldn't do without.

Just bought an angle grinder 4 1/2 inch. It comes with a metal grinding disc but I wish to use it to carve out the bulk material in wood. I have not even plugged this thing in yet too scared to make mistakes. This video helped tremendously I was looking to see who is using their grinder for carving wood but what disc can you use safely. I was tempted to try my metal grinder disc to carefully carve wood but I’m not feeling it yet!😬 at least I just got schooled on the safety factors of this tool and I respect that. I have healed from a ruptured achilles (5yrs now)and a colles fracture to my dominant right wrist (6months ago)- I sure as hell don’t need an injury from careless tool use. I depend on these videos for knowledge but also to see what I’m getting myself into? Thank you.... the jury is still out on plugging this tool in?🤔

@@vogman looks absolutly the same , it a simple device steel with hardmetal-inserts.
A lot of different chinese sell them. Also a lot of importers sell them for 20$.
I Buy a lot of tool from china and i am satisfied with 95% of it. Only bad thing where small "m35" metal drills. But on the other side i bought good drills too (these 30-35cm long ones).

Oh, by the way, did you adjust the speed setting of your grinder? Mine runs at 12000 RPM.

You can use a zip cut blade and do the same thing, and most welding trucks carry them, no need for another item to carry in your trucks tool box when space is a premium.

5/32 discs work as well, but they create a lot more smoke. These style blades shown tend to require a bushing to properly fit the shaft.

No, this wasn't a bodge it and see type video. The blade is completely legitimate and, as you've seen, works a treat.
I've had lots of people say, "Why use an angle grinder on wood?" and I tend to reply, "Why use an angle grinder on metal?"
The point is, with this disc, you can use a grinder as it meant to be used - but on wood : )

I'm a new subscriber :) Glad I found your channel. I am a carver so this could come in handy. Looks a LOT better than those chain saw angle grinder blades. Seen lots of videos with people using those with no safety shield, no face mask and no gloves in a norm tee shirt. Eek.

      @vogman  6 лет назад +1

Great to hear from a wood carver... I know what you mean about those chain-saw blades, they've always terrified me : )
This disc really isn't like that. My only note of caution to you would be this - go gently!
There's no effort involved and no kick back, so it would be very easy to overdo things. But I suspect a skilled guy like yourself will get the hang of it very quickly.
Let me know how you get on - a feel free to share a link with what you make ; )
