Blueberry Passed Away 💔 | My Budgie Was My Berry Best Friend

- We said goodbye way too soon to our budgie Blueberry aka Blue to the Berry after just four years together. Blueberry’s necropsy results showed toxic zinc levels so I hope to share this video in an effort to bring awareness to the items that contain zinc so people can avoid the same outcome, even though I have not found the source of what Berry was exposed to and if it was from our travels or home.

So heartbreaking. I'd like for you to know this-
I found you in 2020 when I adopted a budgie. It had been decades since I had budgies. You taught me so much about nutrition, training, basically how to give your bird its best life. I use your products. My budgies are clicker trained and do a bunch of fun tricks! Their lives and our lives are enriched by what you teach.
Then you got Blueberry! You were spot on getting a bird that is such a popular pet because it helps so many people, including me.
My avian vet told me that a 6 year old budgie is considered a senior. I was shocked. My budgie from the 80s lived to be 13. I did nothing special- all seed diet, it never had a vegetable in its life. No wellness checks or vet visits. Little Booker lived his best life despite very old school care. My vet said budgies are not as hearty anymore.
I'm so sorry for what happened to Blueberry. Also grateful that you determined the cause. Even though the source is a mystery, it's helpful to be aware.
Blueberry had an awesome life! Be proud of that, and all the good you are doing for bird owners all over the world.
What a wonderful story! And what a wonderful legacy Blueberry has left!!
@@mcdart2606 forever, I just cant hold myself back from crying whenever I see this video and Blueberry! He had the best life ever tho. x
Oh we are so sad with you. The same happened to us with our Cockatiel except it was lead poisoning. We just didn't realise and we felt so bad. All we can say to you is Blueberry lived her best life with you, she was tremendously loved and loved you back. She loved you as her best friend too. Our heart goes out to you and we feel your pain and sadness. ❤❤
So sad and I'm sorry for your loss. Could the shower curtain rod have been the source? Sounded like she was spending more time than usual on it since you're return. Thank you for sharing. RIP little Blueberry.
Blueberry was such a special budgie. She taught so many owners of small birds so much. She will be sorely missed.
We will all miss little blueberry. She was a bright spark of joy. Truth be known, we’ve all made mistakes that unintentionally harmed, our birds mostly out of ignorance. I’ve learned a lot from watching your videos and share your grief.
I have just lost my blue and gold Macaw Dolly who I rehomed. Her original mother killed her with kindness. She developed CHF and a host of secondary problems.
I was administering saline sub Q when she went into cardiac arrest and died in my arms. Though we had done this many times, She acted unusually concerned as I prepared the syringe.
Long story short I was damned if I did and damned if I didn’t. That said it still hurts.💔
You gave her the best life a little budgie could’ve ever had❤
I associate your channel with u and your daughter n blueberry 😢🙏
You gave that little Budgie the best four years she ever could have had. She won the lottery living with you. Thank you for sharing this with us so we can all learn and grow thanks to you and Berry
I rescued 12 budgies from a nursing home living in filthy condition. Quite a few of them had some physical disabilities, and I named my first rescue Blueberry because I was inspired by the love and care you and Blueberry gave to each other.❤️❤️
A few of Blueberrys flock have passed, but we will never forget Blueberrys legacy as she had led me to save all her village friends for a better life. Thank you for your Blueberry for the inspiration and love in the last 4 years ❤
That's so nice and sad, but why can't you use punctuation?

I don't often cry while watching a RUclips video, but this one got me. RIP Blueberry.
Losing an animal friend is never easy. My deepest condolences for your loss. Blueberry was a wonderful, beautiful soul. You gave her good years.
Budgies are so much more special than people think. So much personality, sass, and love in such a tiny body. I’m so glad that you were able to have a special relationship with Blueberry and shared so much about budgies with us. Because you shared her with us, so many budgies are having a much better life. Thank you so much for sharing the necropsy process with us, it is so beneficial.
Blueberry was the reason I adopted my little budgie Astro just over 1 year ago. You enabled her to have such a happy life and for that she gave you her unconditional love and your family so much joy. They are such delicate little creatures and Blueberry's videos will continue to be both educational and inspirational to so many Budgie parents. This is Blueberry's legacy. So sorry for your loss 🫐🙏
That's WONDERFUL! I love bird people! You're great!
Same here. Budgies were my first birds, blueberry and this channel helped me understand my budgies and how to take care of them. ❤❤❤
I'm embarrassed to admit how often I come back here for Bluberry's home videos at the end of this heartbreaking video. It brings comfort to me in a way that I cannot explain.
I hope you derive comfort from your efforts as well, in preserving the precious memory of her, forever.
You sharing your love of Berry with us is why we love her so much. Thank you again. 🫂
I honestly cried watching this. I discovered birdtricks through Blueberry while searching for info on how to tame my fearful budgie. Since then, I discovered a real passion for birds/bird training and added 3 more birds to my flock. I am so sorry, this must have been so hard for you guys 🥺
Me too😢

R.I.P Blueberry, you were a little sweet heart, who taught so many about budgie care xxx ❤❤
Blueberry taught me that small birds can do so many of the tricks that big birds can do as well. She is so special. I’m so sorry for you loss.
Please accept my condolences on Blueberry’s passing.😢❤
I just found my Budgie dead today too. I am sick with grief and pacing back and forth with his beautiful body pressed against my cheek. I don’t know how to lessen this pain. I’m devastated for myself and for my birds mate. The price we pay for true love.
😢
I am so incredibly sorry. For a small bird Blueberry had a big personality. She will be missed, but always in our hearts.
I'm so very sorry to hear about Blueberry, Jamie. She was such a wonderful little bird. As a vet, I've learned there is not much I can do to help relieve your feelings of guilt, but please know that I, along with everyone in the BirdTricks community, know how much you, Dave and Capri LOVE your avian family members and constantly strive to take the best care of them. We are all sending love and light your way during this difficult time. xo
The love of a budgie is something else. Sending love 💔
@@hansari1910 True! The bond with a budgie that you share your life with 24/7 is probably the closest you can get to the strong bond you have with your children.
I am so sorry. The hardest part about having animals is losing them. My heart breaks for you guys 😞
Rest in peace Blueberry. We loved you very much, I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve lost many of my babies over the years, they all died in my hands. I felt helpless and lost after each one’s passing, you’re not alone, we love and care about you very much. May Blueberry fly high. 💖💞🫂⛅️✨
Blueberry was such a good budgie.
She was a sassy little bird too. Very affectionate little female budgie.
She loved her flock of humans to bits. You gave her love and a wonderful home and life. She was a lucky bird.
She will be missed.
Every budgie has a unique personality. She was a special bird.
My thoughts are with you and your family. Don't beat yourself up, she could've ingested Zinc from anywhere.
I have a little blue budgie named Topanga. I want to thank you for sharing from the bottom of my heart…I use a zinc spf every day, and I had no idea how dangerous it could be. Thank you for sharing Blueberry’s story, it will help bring awareness and be an honor to her memory. ❤
Topanga is such a beautiful name. It's a Chumash word (of the Tongva tribe) that means "where the mountains meet the sea" or "place above" 💙
@@mischr13 her little white wings look like snow-capped mountains on the water 😊
I feel your pain. This year our 10 y.o budgie girl passed away and it is a shattering loss. We had a very deep bond too, her passing hit our entire family hard. Pia was blue, just like Blueberry. She was very loved, like Blueberry.
Stay strong.
Blueberry had the best life for a budgie, she will be sorely missed. I have learned so much from you, you are an inspiration.
i used to watch you and blueberry since i was a little kid and she is the reason i have budgies and may she rest in peace . you gave her a beautiful life 💜
Omg I am so sorry to you and your daughter!
My budgie seemed sick for a month. we gave medicine, and a month later I returned to the vet. The vet said there was something deeper going on. We are sometimes left with more questions than answers.
Please do not blame yourself. Be nice to yourself. You were a wonderful caretaker to Blueberry and all your birds.
She is flying in heaven! ❤🌈
This is absolutely soul crushing. Reminds of my parakeets that I had from 2000 - 2010. A male and female that never bred for some reason. I remember the male passed away first in 2009. The female kept calling for him for days and it broke my heart. After about 4 days she gave up and started to be around me alot more. She didn't want to be in her cage at all and always flew to me. I remember her last day she wasnt eating much and would sleep on my shoulder. When the night came I put her in her cage which she would usually climb into her soft fluffy hut to sleep. I went to my living room and she got out of her cage and flew all the way to me. I was laying on the couch with her on my hand and I had a feeling it was her time. I stood awake with her all night until at about 2 AM she spread her wings wide as if she was going to fly and then breathed her last. She wanted to be with me in her last moments and it shattered my soul. I never thought I would have so much love from a small little creature and that I would love it back so much. I was never the same afterwards.
These beautiful little creatures are so easy to love and so hard to lose. Blueberry was such a delight and she chose to love you all as her adopted family and you all gave her love and a special life. Sending love from Australia.
Goodnight sweet Blueberry 💙
I remember when you first got Blueberry, he reminded me of a parakeet I had as a child. After a couple of years I found her lifeless at the bottom of her cage one day. I was devastated. I know how you feel. RIP Blueberry ❤❤
I’m so sorry about the loss of Blueberry ❤ She was so loved by everyone.
I remember I cried so much when my Flick died after an accident. He was a special budgie to me too.
You gave Blueberry the best life. She was a lucky budgie and taught us a lot. ❤️
The love our pets give us will always be in our hearts ❤️
I am in Australia where a lot of us use sunscreen daily all year round (even in winter) so thank you for this video, I didn't even think about sunscreen potentially affecting my babies. I am so sorry for your loss. Blueberry was very special. I hope you don't feel guilty for too long because your intentions were good and you have done a lot more for your birds than many people out there.
May Blueberry rest in peace. She had an amazing life
Our homes are toxic to us as well. I wish there was more we could do about this!
You give all your birds the best life possible, with blueberry probably having lived life to the fullest extent in your care even compared to your other birds. Rip blueberry. You have done everything right, sometimes God takes away the best from us the earliest.
I’m so sorry for your loss. As a mama to two budgies, I can’t imagine your heartbreak. Sending love.
I don't even have a bird and don't ever plan to but I watch your videos for the fun of seeing happy birds and Blueberry was such a character. So sorry for your loss.
Me too!
So sorry for your loss, what a sweet little angel baby! Thank you for sharing this, I don't own song birds, but I'm a chicken mama. I've lost three out of a flock of 40 over the past 4 years and my heart was broken with each passing😢. They all have names and individual personalities and are part of my family. I actually had no idea about zinc poisoning and birds...and when you mentioned "galvanized", my heart sank to my stomach because many of our chicken supplies are galvanized to withstand the outdoor elements...even the hardware cloth used to keep predators out of their coop/run😕 I just searched and found a poultry vet article that warns against incidental ingestions (broken pieces, scraps, etc...chickens eat EVERYTHING😳)...so glad I found this video bc cause when a bird gets sick, as you know, time is of the essence and ruling out possible diagnoses and starting treatment immediately...you sometimes only get one shot☹️
I am so incredibly sorry for the loss of Blueberry.
She was an inspiration for a lot of us and you gave her the very best life any bird could have.
I can't stop crying, I absolutely loved Blueberry, and I am so very sorry for your loss. It was so brave of you to share this video- please hug Capri and let her know that so many people loved Blue and so may budgie birds are living better lives because of your work and her adorable training videos.
Beautiful tribute for Blueberry 😢💙. Rest in peace, little blue cutie.
What a sweet soul she was!

She proved that good things do come in small packages.
So sorry for the loss of your beloved friend💙
I am so sorry for your loss. We lost a baby bird suddenly and it was devastating and I blamed myself. Just remember Blueberry would not want you to beat yourself up.
In trying to think of items with zinc, mineral make up like foundations, powders and eyeshadow can contain zinc. It is also an ingredient in Anti dandruff shampoo. Please know I am only trying to help not place any blame. This was just a horrible accident and not anyone's fault. You gave that little girl an amazing life. You Blessed her as much as she did you. Hugs.
Blueberry honestly truly started my love for birds. I wanted a budgie and did research and blueberry lead me to your channel. Thanks to her I have the knowledge I have. You all gave blueberry a truly amazing life. She knew that 🩵
My budgie river is basically Blueberry’s twin (by looks). Every time I watched your videos it was just amazing seeing blueberry and comparing her to River. I am so sorry for this devastating loss. I know how much you love all your birds but I know how special Blueberry was when she came into your lives. May she rest in peace. Please know that she had an amazing life with you all. We are all witnesses to that. Your family has helped thousands of birds across the globe. Love and condolences from India 🇮🇳
I am so sorry to hear this. I lost my little budgie last year. She was the most wonderful companion who helped me with bereavement and during covid. I never felt alone with her and I'm still lost without her.
I don't think it can be stressed enough how much personality a budgie has and how much joy they can bring you in such a little bird.
So sorry for your loss😢
My budgies escaped two days ago, we are hoping for their return and feeling the loss at the same time 😢 carrying so much guilt for not being careful enough

I’m very sorry for your loss. We lost our budgie of 7 years yesterday. Displayed quite a few similar symptoms of what you described. She died at home with us, we stayed up all night and she passed in our arms in the morning. I’m glad we could be there for our budgie in her final hours even though it was incredibly hard.
No, Blueberry, I'm so sorry for your loss . I'm crying with you . Thank you for sharing with us .
Poor Blueberry! So sweet. Ive had many budgies in my life and remember them fondly. They are so special and social.
I understand the pain, knowing you could’ve prevented something. But one thing I can tell you is that stay strong, you learn from it but you as well grow from it, birds are such comfort creatures, it hurts when they leave.
Oh my gosh dear. These losses come with the territory of keeping our feathered friends. I'm so sorry for your loss of sweet Blueberry.
So sorry for your family’s heartbreaking loss. Thank you for the info about zinc toxicity; with your courage, Blueberry’s legacy will be saving the lives of so many beloved birdies.
Sorry for your loss. I lost a budgie, so suddenly! The guilt gets me 😢
This video was very raw. Thank you. Birds aren't made for this manmade hellscape we've created :(. It's very hard on them and us. Sorry for your loss

I am in shock at the news. I am so heartbroken for you. The Stout family and Onni sends their love
I am so so sorry. All of our losses of animals is truly heartbreaking. I had two pass in one month for totally different reasons and was so depressed. I feel for you and I’m hugging you through the phone.

Blueberry had a beautiful life. She knew she was loved. I have budgies and it is so sad when they pass. I lost my Hector last year. Sending ❤️ love. I believe we will meet again in eternity.
I'm so so sorry. This is devastating news. We have 3 budgies and the love we have for them is so deep. I can only imagine the heartbreak. My son will cry when he hears about Blue. She had such a big impact on how my boy cares for his feathered friends. (Matt Gosbell is our Avian vet, he's taken good care of our budgie Benji when he got severely ill). Thinking of you all and praying your other small feathered friends stay safe x

You love every single one of your birds and give them such high quality, wonderful lives and loads of love!!
Blueberry flies amongst the stars now. Small pets are very underrated. They have unique personalities, and when you bond with them, they give you so much love. I am very sorry for your loss. Budgies were my first pet, and i loved them so much too. Never stop showing how great birds are and educating on them as the world needs more kindhearted people, especially for the underrated animals. Blue was such an amazing budgie, you and her taught us all so much about tiny birds and we will always be thankful for that 🫶
Sorry for your loss. The pain of losing one of the feathered people is difficult, especially when you are at fault and was preventable. Been there. I have done the impossible task of performing my own necropsies and you are correct - they are an invaluable tool to help us be better bird parents.
Please accept my most heartfelt and sincere condolences. Blueberry was such a joy.

I'm so sorry for your loss. For those of us who love the animals who share our homes, it's painful to say goodbye, especially when it's too soon and they are so young. Thank you for sharing what happened. It helps to educate others and to save lives. Please don't be too hard on yourself. Perhaps something happened while you were gone and right before your return, and it took a little extra time before it affected sweet little Blueberry? You're a wonderful bird mama, so please let your heart heal💕.
Here’s a few things around the house that are high in zinc…paints, rubber, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, plastics, inks, soaps, batteries, textiles and electrical equipment. Zinc sulfide is used in making luminous paints, fluorescent lights and x-ray screens, brass and musical instruments. Even toasters geezzz!💔🫶🏼
Am so sorry for your unexpected loss. You mentioned Blueberry slept on top of a shower rod. Is your rod made of metal or have metal hooks for the curtain to hang? I am a bird lover too. My 31 1/2 year cockatiel passed away 2 years ago. He grew up with our 4 children and got to meet 5 of our 6 grandchildren and be a part of their lives too. Birds are so loving, caring and intelligent. God bless your Blueberry and my Sammy. May they both rest in peace.
It's extremely unfortunate to hear of your loss. Budgies are pets like no other, they give such raw and unconditional love and endless joyous energy, and having them pass away always hurts and leaves us deeply affected, speaking from my experience of having lost an 8 year old pal this year. It's very clear that you cherished Blueberry dearly based on the videos and shorts I had occasionally seen on my feed, and its more than evident Blueberry also adored you and your family as well judging by how she was so comfortable under your hands and arms, and was always happy to be within the presence with all of you. Even if the necropsy revealed traces of Zinc that you had no idea where it came from especially cause you had been monitoring her and the other birds so well, it's without a doubt you gave her the best care that you could've possibly given to any budgie out there
It's quite nice that you shared the information about her passing with us and the necropsy taken so that we may also be well aware of the signs as well, and its very clear that even if you didn't know what had ultimately lead to her consumption of Zinc that you still looked out for their and the other birds' health by keeping products with known Zinc in them in areas where birds cannot access and be harmed from them. And the jetlag couldn't be helped either, it's hard to readjust back to your current time due to timezones and unfortunately it does mean that birds may be affected as well, given their sensitivities to their surroundings
You've done the best you could, and I'm sure Blueberry feels more than blessed to have been under your care for all these years. I hope she flies high in a life full of the things she loves most, free of pain, and can look back at you all with the love and adoration she had for you whilst on this planet. All the best in these trying times too
♥️♥️♥️ I second this. Blueberry was treated like a true queen. They did the absolute best in terms of care they they could, and she had such a wonderful life.
Our pets etch themselves into our hearts, we hold them and their treasured memories here forever. I am so sorry to hear about Blueberry and for your loss. She was an awesome little girl. ❤
I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. 😢 Blueberry will never be forgotten. Hugs 🫂 Fly high Blueberry 🫐
I watched your video with tears in my eyes, I don’t know what to say, my Budgie Boo is almost the same colour as Blueberry and about the same age. I have watched almost all your videos featuring Blueberry, for ideas on training and looking after my Boo.
These small animals have such an impact on our lives, they are so much apart of the family. I feel so sorry for your loss. I can’t think about some time in the future I’m going to have to say goodbye to my Boo.
Once again thank you for your videos Blueberry was so beautiful and special ❤️❤️
Sorry for your loss. Blueberry was an adorable budgie. I can tell she was loved. Take care, hugs!
I adopted a budgie last Sunday, had been looking at parrot information for the past 1 month. Was not sure if I should get a bird since I have only had experience with dogs. But after watching Blueberry's first hop on finger, I decided to get a budgie first. This is 💔, thanks for sharing with us. Our pets always bring sunshine into our lives, it's so distressing to lose them. I am sorry for your loss.
I am very sorry for your loss
Like others have commented similarly you have helped so much on my parrot care journey. I was 5 years old when i got my first bird, who was a budgie, his name was Flykee. He was rehomed to me from my freind who loved him so much, but she had many pets and couldn't find much time for him anymore. I had always wanted a bird, so I took the offer. I didn't know much about parrot care, so I put him in his small white cage. He was addicted to mirrors and unsafe bells. He only sat on one perch. But despite that he continues to be the most loving bird I ever had been able to be a companion to. We did everything together. At age 9 I found your videos and watched your channel every day. Slowly but sureley I tried to improve is life. Before I could change a lot, we dont know how, but he disappeared. We tried to find him but he was never found.
After him I got two birds, a family members friend called us and said that he needed someone to take care of his birds because he was kicked out of his home. 1 yr went by and he never picked them up, so I kept them. But I watched your videos and changed their lives. You are my inpiration to become an avian vet. You have helped me and so many others over the years by improving parrots lives. Thank you for being a light in bird care. Ghost the bird is living on life with another bird, and i continue to learn more about improving her life. Thank you. Blueberry is somwhere where she flys in clouds for miles. I think she loved you dearly.
All my love to your whole family. Blueberry was who brought me to your channel and made me want to have a budgie friend myself someday. Please check the shower rod she was sleeping on and/or the shower curtain hangers. These things can be coated with zinc to prevent corrosion. But I'm sure y'all have thought about that. Such a tragedy, and I'm so sorry for you all.
that curtain rod was my first thought as well, there's so many metal things that contain zinc that never tell you they do simply because it's a cheap metal to use.
I'm so sorry! We learn from everything. I lost 2 birds to metal exposure from the cage I thought was safe. I didn't realize that was the problem because necropsy didn't tell me or my vet why. We had done rounds of bloodwork before either bird passed. I only confirmed that the cage was a problem when I changed to an all aluminum cage. It was a hard pill to swallow, but I learned from it. Sending hugs to all of you 💙
Heartbreaking and Sad when an Animal or Bird passes that you grew to love and appreciate ❤🙏🙏
I'm so sorry to hear this. I know exactly how you felt. I lost my Gecko in June. She didn't wake up from surgery and it broke me. I'm sad to hear this for you because it's the small animals that perch on your shoulder that you end up loving the deepest. The little chirps and squeaks in your ear are missed so much. I was lucky enough to be able to say goodbye to her and feel her heartbeat stop. I'm so sorry you didn't get to do that. My heart breaks for you and I entirely understand how hard it is. All my love to you
I give you my deepest sympathy Capri, Jamie Leigh and Dave. What a shock for you. Blueberry will be missed. May she rest in peace. May you all please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
Thanks for getting the toxicity tests and being thorough, since birds are so different from us and are effected by things that feel not so obvious. Its frightening that simply existing in a human environment is super dangerous for such curious animals
I’m so sorry for your loss. Please don’t torture yourselves. We cannot control everything. Blueberry is still with you and will meet at the bridge. You gave her a fabulous life. She was called home too early but again she’s still with you.😢
Beautiful tribute to a lucky and well loved bird! None of us can protect from EVERYTHING and what a sad world it would be if we never took a chance to fly! Or to know love. You all did so wonderfully well for the little souls in your care! You set an amaxing example and your reach extends far beyound your own birds! Thank you for everything you do!
Rip Blueberry I always looks out for her in every video 🫐❤
Grief is excruciating as an adult, but oh my heart breaks extra for Capri right now. Blueberry was such her little buddie and this sudden loss must be earth shattering. Sending love to you all - nothing hurts as much as grief, and nothing eases that pain but time. ❤
You’ll be deeply missed blue to the berry
Loved watching videos with this budgie. A year or so ago my budgie passed and your videos and connection with your birds helped me through.
I'm very sorry for your loss. I lost my own Sunnybird earlier this year. It's never easy.
I'm so very sorry for your loss . . . this made me cry for you. Our beloved pets, no matter what species they might be, are part of our family and when we lose one, it's absolutely heartbreaking. I had discovered and been watching your videos, as we bought a budgie recently from Petco and wanted to learn how to best help it get settled and how to train it. I used to have parrots many years ago when I was young and hadn't had a parakeet for about 50 years . . . this little one we just brought home is our only bird; it's slow-going but I am working on your tips. Take all the time you need to grieve . . . and know that you did an excellent job giving Blueberry a happy life and so much love.
We're devastated to hear about blueberry. We named our own budgie blueberry after seeing your original videos. Wish you peace and love during this period.
