Nicely done video. Short, sweet, simple, and to the point. What actually struck my eye to look at your video is you really resemble my friend from New Kensington, PA from many years ago. You even sound like him. I have been living in another country so we lost touch.
Just watched your video because we are in the process of giving our kitchen a facelift. I decided to replace all the cabinet doors and am almost finished making these shaker style using your recommendations. So easy and intuitive if you have the tools. I just needed to pick up the Kreg pocket tool. Thanks for the great DIY video...
You make it easy for a beginner. I need to make 3 doors for my hutch. Thanks for such clear and precise instructions. I don't own alot of tools yet. Thanks.
This is my second DIY Tyler video in as many days. I'm a fan! I like the focus on a few basic tools. The camera work is good. The editing strikes a good balance with focusing on the details that I find helpful, and spending less time on less important things. The audio is good. I'll be watching more of these. Good production values, informative, and practical. Thank you!
Do you have a preferred lumber provider? I am wanting to make these exact doors and wo der if you just went to Home Depot, somewhere else, or if you order it.
I love this would you be able to do a shaker style door for kitchen but using cane ! Like cane on the front ! I have a farmhouse/boho style and I just wondered if cane style shaker doors is such thing ;)
Hi, is it possible to change the look of raised panel doors into shaker doors, diy on a budget? Or is it more complicated since panels are raised? (The cabinet doors are in excellent condition and structurally sound, would like to keep them just makeover the front, any budget friendly ideas? Thank you for your time
I am totally amazed. I love building things and your vid was super helpful esp if one does not have all the tools that most builders have. A table saw and a chisel was more than enough to make that groove. Thanks for making this vid.
Thank you for the great video, I plan on following this exact method to redo my kitchen cabinet doors. Isn't a 1/8" hardboard too flimsy for the panel ? Just wondering...
Wow! Tyler, thank you for that. I now have a better understanding of the process. And... I also see that my kitchen full of “custom cabinets” with the doors falling off is nothing more than the cabinet maker’s blatant disregard to do quality work. Set aside the fact he used cheap material that’s now falling apart. I probably would have never known had he been more precise with his measurements, maybe used some freaking glue, pre-drilled some holes. Hell, I don’t know 🤷♀️ maybe watched one of your videos, before charging someone 16k for a bunch of crap that showed up unfinished and jacked up!
I just bought a cheapo porter cable nailgun at home depot and started using it on my projects. Love it so far. What size nails did you use on this project? I would expect they would have to be really short.
@@DIYTyler Thank you! So, you wouldn't use the Kreg dowel pieces that they offer? I find those to be a pain in the neck to install and size, and if that's what you typically use, it would've been cool to see what tricks you recommend. However, it sounds like you favor a different approach. Thank you!!!
Thank you for the informative video. I like how you stop every now and then and point out the details of your process and why you do it that way. Your attention to detail is appreciated. Do you have a video on how you finished the door with the white 'paint'? If not, what was your method. hmm, maybe a follow-up video?? :-) Cheers, Gus
Great video, I always learn good ways to improve my wood working when I watch your videos. I have been using your great method to build drawer boxes with pre finished plywood and they turn out perfectly. Thanks again.
This is great! I need 7 doors for a bathroom vanity and tall cabinet and a professional cabinet company want $2,400.00 to do it. I have all the tools and will give this a shot. By the way, what is ratio to door size to cabinet opening? How much bigger than the opening do they doors need to be?
Made similar doors myself. Glue and pocket screw frames , then use router table for dado for panel. Important to lay out pocket screws correctly so you don't hit with router bit. I enjoy your videos ,you do a great job
Run a dado 1/4 deep into your stock then Mitre the corners. Cut the panel to length assemble and you got a solid door with no pocket holes and all done on the saw. Seems neater and more simple to me.
Technically a shaker door refers to the flat panel and square frame. Once properly painted, which is the most common finish for them, you won't be able to tell where the stiles or rails are.
Where do you get nice straight wood for the rails and styles? Or do you straighten them somehow? Every time I go to Lowe's or Home Deport I have to look through their entire stock to find the best wood but none of it is perfect.
This was a combination of poplar and hardboard. If you are finishing with a color this will work....but I would recommend something other than hardboard as the back is not smooth. MDF or a 1/4" plywood would be best.
First of all thank you very much for sharing your job with us. Second, I think so if you use the router table to cut rabbet on your door frame it would be very better than the cut with a table saw! because the cut will be more accurate and clean instead that! Sorry it was just my opinion!

The BEST VIDEO that I've seen for creating these cabinet doors.

You're work is second to none outstanding work may God continue to bless you.
Thank you so much 😀
Thank you for this, I’m in the process of building a cabinet for the garage. This approach makes it so much easer with the tools I have.

Love the blue masking tape band-aid. I do that, too
What size nail or brad did you use to nail the play wood into the channel?
Great video right up to the pocket jig part.
What would recommend making 6’8” length worried about worping door size 32”x 6’8”
Do you have a preferred lumber provider? I am wanting to make these exact doors and wo der if you just went to Home Depot, somewhere else, or if you order it.
Nicely explained
Love it❤
Which tooth count blade are you using to cut the rails to length? 60 or 80 tpi?
I thought the panel insert needed to be free floating so it can expand/contract freely?
Can I use any soft wood and MDF???
Tyler, thank you so much for your tips and tricks for shaker cabinet making. Your instruction was so helpful when I was noob!
What material did you use for your panel? It doesn’t look like any wood I’ve seen tbh
Nice quick and easy 👍
I might steal this idea but instead of a table saw use a router bit to create the 'pocket' for the back. Nice work!

Can I just make a good frame and adhear that ta quarter inch full size?????
Dankeschön fürs Zeigen

Are you going to fill the pocket holes or the over cut in the rabbets? If so, what's your favorite fill media?
If I was going to, find it a good incentive to close the doors, I would use spackle or water putty.

It's a good idea , but you can make normal shaker doors with just a table saw
I see that Marine cover at the end, Semper Fi devil!
Excellent your work Sr. Congrats !.
Wife wants to upgrade kitchen your video showed her how simple it is for doors to save thousands of dollars.
Doors look great. Simple, quick, effective! Functional! economical!
First thing I’m going to make is drawers! Gotta organize!! Out of control!

So glad I found this! Great video, great instructions and saves the pennies!
What kind of nailer is that?

Awesome bro thanks
For the frame, what is the size of the wood eg 2x1 inch ? I think I do same but with lap joints. Thanks.
Wouldn't a router have been a good option as well for that saw technique? Or is it faster to do it that way?
Nice and simple. Just the way I need it. Stay safe!
Thanks, you too!
Very useful content, easy to follow, thanks for posting!
Nicely done Tyler! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
why don't you snap the 1/4 MDF into 3/4 frame?
great allan

I typically don't get this kind of wood from a home center, a supplier will deal MUCH better quality wood for less
Good job bro
Very well done thank you!

Do you have a link for your hinges??
What type of wood did you use for the rails and styles?
They look good from the front, but the back looks rough.
Great thank you
You earned legend status my friend...Thank you!!!
Good video 👍
where did you get the tinted poly?
General Finishes.
@@DIYTyler do you have to prime the cabinet first or just the tinted poly?
