Yep ,I was 17 also .Had the 45 single, just merely seeing the cover sleeve pic made me well up .I played it to death then bought their album ,bright blue sleeve,v simple elegant design.Boy could they play & that voice!. ...there are no words ❤
The single version is better than the album version. A truly marvellous song. MAJESTIC - one of the best songs I have ever heard!! Yep Another one of my favourites. RIP BIG MAN Stay alive!
Marvellous track, from the greatest band of all time, The Crossing , album is an absolute must in anybodys music collection who claims to love music. Without the album in your collection, you dont have a collection.
This is truly my personal favorite out of all of the great/beautiful songs created by Big Country.I like a lot of bands but I love these guys. And like all B.C. fans,I am truly sorry Stuart is not with us today.I really is amazing how talented he was as a singer/songwriter/musician.And on top of all that he was such a good and decent man.He deserved a better fate than he got from life.
💙 Stay free, K. [Edit: You are not alone. One of these old afternoons, perhaps we will all meet again, on a better Astral Plane - no hippy shite intended. In my particular (non) Faith, but in Hope.]
This brings back so many memories. At college in Kirkcaldy I could hear this being played on the jukebox down in the common room along with Should I Stay or Should i Go, Dear Prudence and Small-town Boy. Great times.
Kenny Robertson I saw them in one of my first concerts at the Oxford Apollo. My baby sister was rather keen on Stuart. Terribly sad that he felt he was a failure. The pain of that is so resonant.
i was 20 when this was recorded, remember it at the time but hadn't heard it again until now, well i am speechless, it's so good i am literally in tears
All the rain came down on a cold new town As he carried you away From your father's hand that always seemed like a fist Reaching out to make you pay He came like a hero from the factory floor With the sun and moon as gifts But the only son you ever saw Were the two he left you with Oh Lord, where did the feeling go? Oh Lord, I never felt so low Now the skirts hang so heavy around your head That you never knew you were young Because you played chance with a lifetime's romance And the price was far too long Oh Lord, where did the feeling go?
I can't help stop playing song this song. I am no music afficionado but one of the hand ful of concerts I ever went to was at Exeter University in the late 80's to watch BG. What a song.
@@tommyclark2709 So true, man, life's a shame, sometimes. Big Country is and always will be my favourite band. There is no other band whose music has the ability to make me connect instantly with it, as this band's does.
Yes,my two favourites Fields of Fire and In a Big Country put wind in my sails whereas this is much more downbeat, especially lyrically, but still very good.
Thank you for the memories. I had to look this up on You Tube here as I had not heard it for a long time. From their first album The Crossing of course. I remember at the time, in 1983, that in Smash Hits the reviewer Tim de Lisle gave it 4 out of 10 and I know that he said something about 'not being Scottish' or so-indeed?!
Great, great band. Saw them live a couple of times back in the 80s.1st time was at the Ingilston Arena Edinburgh 5th December 1986 2 days after my 18th birthday. 32 years ago......
Great track, although getting fed up with the constant adverts from You Tube, I had four between this track and the last and one of those was a trailer for the new Bond film, they’re actually longer than the music I want to listen to
I was playing this song on my guitar the other day... when I finished I looked up and my kids were looking at me... crying! It reached them maaaan!
Still hauntingly beautiful, after all these years.
❤️😢 Totally agree
this was the best track big country made, and I remember Stuart adamsons death as if it was yesterday. R.I.P Stuart.
Same here.
This brings back powerful memories of being 17 years old, and driving around in my first car, a mk 1 escort, such great times sorely missed. 😢
Similar to mine, but a Mk2 Cortina and I was 21. Also powerful memories. I guess such songs arent called the "soundtrack to our lives" for nothing?
And me in my Cortina haha
Yep ,I was 17 also .Had the 45 single, just merely seeing the cover sleeve pic made me well up .I played it to death then bought their album ,bright blue sleeve,v simple elegant design.Boy could they play & that voice!. ...there are no words ❤

Rip Stuart Adamson gone but never forgotten in our mind and 💕 thanks for the unforgettable music u left us
The single version is better than the album version.
A truly marvellous song.
MAJESTIC - one of the best songs I have ever heard!!
Yep
Another one of my favourites.
RIP BIG MAN
Stay alive!
My late friend's favourite band, my favourite song by them. I would give anything to see them with him, he always asked me & i always said no.
One of the most beautiful, melancholy, haunting choruses of all time 💚
Mooi nummer
The new generation, definetelly, needs to know Big Country.
Will Crouch Great!
Simon Cowell made sure they won't.
To know a band almost 30 years ago and still remember the pleasure 30 years later. Amazing
I totally agree , for me a bit more than 30 years , make it 37 years
RIP Stuart. Thank You for the memories and the autograph. No other guy in Fife as good as he was 👍
Such a sad song Stewart Adamson at his best soooo sad 😞

One of the finest songs written
Makes me proud to be Scottish great big country
Hugely underrated band - Great Tune!
Bwah.... They didn't sell THAT badly. Could be better, could be worse, could be far worse as an Irish pal used to describe such situations
I just broke out in tears. This song makes me so alive.

Cut out the soy and eat some meat. That should stop you crying.

Was direct mijn favoriete band uit de jaren 80 Nog steeds!!!!❤❤❤
En een van de weinigen die Nederlands verstaat. ;-)
I loved big country , I saw them live twice in the 80s . A brilliant decade of music
Kenny Robertson I saw them in one of my first concerts at the Oxford Apollo. My baby sister was rather keen on Stuart. Terribly sad that he felt he was a failure. The pain of that is so resonant.
Lucky you, I never saw them live.
Me too. At Wembley Arena.
Me too, Edinburgh?

This version is sooo Scottish, somehow, it feels different from any other tracks of theirs as well as the album version. Love it.
I thought a lot of their songs sounded scottish.
A truly great song! Was a favourite of mine back in the early 80's.
This is way better than the album version
Defo, crisper and clearer, more layered, brilliant.
That guitar at the end. Jammin
Timeless
Thank you for the memories Stuart

Chance is Stuarts finest
Seen them in Edinburgh Playhouse...Fabulous... Oh the memories... RIP Stuart ♥
Lucky Jackie, I hope I have had the chance...Now its too late...:(
@@mathiashalbroth5088 they were fab, I treasure the memories.. 😉
In my top 20 list of all time favourites. Where has the music gone?!
One fine day it will be famous again. Hope never dies...
Sends shivers down my spine. What a song. Great lyrics..
I like the single version much better than the album version! The album version for some reason cuts off that great guitar ending!
Big country =unique,brilliant music👏👏👏🙏🙏
How could anyone dislike?? Beats me. Splendid tune. ❤️
Magic still a great song😊❤RIP 🌹 Stuart
Absolutely brilliant one of the best bands of the eighties.
I can't help stop playing song this song. I am no music afficionado but one of the hand ful of concerts I ever went to was at Exeter University in the late 80's to watch BG. What a song.
When??
1990 Reply Tardy The For Sorry
In many ways, almost the perfect single. Full of pathos, it's dynamic and catchily singable. Glorious!!
What a fucking track (apologies) but oh my god what a tune.
Takes me right back to vodka, cider and sadness.
OOOOOOOH Lord, where did the feeling go?
OOOOOOOH Lord, I never felt so low
Carlos Olacia - Poor Stuart, it’s so sad. Depression is an evil f-ing thing. :,(

The finest version, no doubt - but it haunts me still
Never heard this song since 30 years may be. I love it. Great Band
The 80's music was a time to remember
Big Country - the most underrated band of the 80’s IMO
I absolutely love how sad and grim this song is. The lyrics are brilliant! Very relatable, tho not for me personally but still.
Yes,my two favourites Fields of Fire and In a Big Country put wind in my sails whereas this is much more downbeat, especially lyrically, but still very good.
Superb memories of my youth and very moving back then and still today.
what a piece.
This song will tattoo my heart forever
2:18 goosebumps 💛💙💛
Saw them twice in the mid 80's. This is my favourite of theirs. Pax to all from soulboy73.Xxx.
Sends the hairs in the back of my neck up. Superb.
I have always thought this bittersweet song is about Stuart's childhood. Stay Free and Rest in Peace, Stuart. R. 🍻 😎 🌠

When Steve Lilliwhite tells you he'd place this LP in his top 3.............
the ending of the 7 inch version is better than the one they used on the crossing
To go from this brilliance... to a closet in Hawaii... FFS
