#VideoConferencing #Zoom #WorkFromHome
As you stated, I'm learning Zoom because I need to learn it. Battled my way through piles of Millennials who assumed I know things I don't know...and gleaned information. Then I saw an age-friendly face and started watching your tutorials. You're a gifted teacher and best of all: trying to follow what you say doesn't give me a headache. So thank you very much indeed!
Excellent! That's what DottoTech is here for.
Steve, very helpful tips for video conferencing, especially elevating the camera or using a tripod and holder for smartphone/tablet. I will be recommending this video to others as they move into using Zoom. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Your videos are one of the few that I watch completely through. They are engaging and just the right length, without a lot of introductory chaff. Nice work!
Wow, thank you!
Great idea using a tablet or smartphone Steve, I am going to give it a try
The value you add to your audience is amazing, Steve. Thanks a lot!
I appreciate that!
We're using an older laptop to teach live online yoga. We chose the laptop because we can link it to a secondary large screen TV via HDMI, which allows a decent view of the participants video to offer modifications on poses. The laptop also allows a side chat bar, without taking up too much screen. I like the idea of switching to a smart phone for quality, but I'm worried about losing the larger screens we now have.
And thanks for all the info you provide. Been watching since your PBS days, lol.
Elevating the anglehelped me a lot. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
New job, first-time having to experience using Zoom. Great advice. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!😉
Awesome Zoom info. We are working with our church members who are very low tech in there day to day operations. The laptop/webcam and smartphone tripod/earphones approach is a technique that we will be able to teach them.
So refreshing to see somebody give useful advice that is not requiring a massive $$$ spend. This kind of realistic advice comes from someone ( Steve ) who obviously has extensive experience in the field. Thanks dude!
You are so welcome!
Steve, when I need to learn something tech, I always find your videos helpful. I am just getting into learning how to use Zoom, and this has really helped me understand what I can use that I already have to produce professional-looking video calls. Thanks!
Glad to help!
Can you help me please
Steve, you sure put my mind at ease. wish you would do a video of how to use a zoom and cast it on tv and not lose the audio quality. Thanks for the great content.
Noted!
Using the phone for video conferencing is a super idea. My computer speakers have a humming noise which is annoying and I can't fix it. I tried it before I knew about this training and found it very useful at the same time. Thanks so much for your videos.
Hi Steve, thanks for one of the most practical and useful videos I've watched recently. I've just come from my first Zoom meeting with 6 guests dotted all around the world. I'd never thought of using my phone or tablet as first choice. Thanks for the great tips.
Great to hear!
Very practical. And easy to do. Thanks a lot.
Just the suggestion to elevate my laptop has helped. Thanks, Steve.
I've never following you since the Dotto Data Cafe days and still enjoy your videos. Used to live in BC and have been in NB for many years now. 👌
Great to hear!
That was super helpful! I was getting tired of guys with super expensive setups! I have everything I need. Thank you so much.
You're welcome!
Steve, good practical advice. I'm going to look to see your advice for 2021. I'm also setting up an engineering project with remote engineers and supporting technical tools.
Yup! I evolved in three days to keeping my laptop free by mounting my iPhone on the Osmo Gimbal on a tripod and attaching a Shur Mic on its own tripod. Also use lighting to tone down the background, making it less distracting (revealing)
Thanks for going through all the options for us. This has been very helpful. Stay home and stay Safe. Coming to you from Ontario!
Thank you! Will do!
Thank you!!! Awesome presentation and very easy to understand.
I'm the worship leader at my church and have been scrambling to do church differentl. We will be using Zoom for church leadership meetings and staff meetings, so this was very helpful.
I telework for my job at a major health care provider in MN, but all of our meetings take place without video so I'm behind the game on using video etc.
One positive of the covid19 is that I've been forced to get my butt into the world of recording videos as well as video conferencing I'm actually enjoying it and by the time this is over should have a pretty sweet home recording studio set up!
Thanks again. This was very helpful.
A comparative explanation encouraged me to use smartphone etc, thanks.
Alright Mr. Dotto.
Loved the way you show. Not just demonstrate, but show. I appreciate all my basic questions I had being answered. If it wasn't on this vid, it's being answered on another vid you've done. Thank you -
Oh, forgot to mention I'm signing up for ZOOM now.
I've been working from home for a few years with the occasional video call a couple times a week, but I have no idea why I never thought to raise up my laptop as you showed in your video. Great idea!
There you go John, one of the problems when we do the same task over and over again is we really don’t look at it with fresh eyes trying to figure out how to do things better, most people never think to change the camera angle. But now you know and you are going to look fabulous from here on out!
Awesome video, Steve!!! We are not allowed to use Zoom where I teach due to privacy and security concerns. I've been reading about a lot of red flags concerning Zoom in this area, from class action lawsuits that acuse Zoom of sharing user analytics with 3rd parties like Facebook to Zoom's privacy and security practices being under scrutiny by the Attorney General's office of the state of New York. Not trying to be a spoil sport! Just thought your users might want to pause for a second or two before jumping into the Zoom arena.
Great tips as always Steve thanks.
Steve, huge fan of your work. Keep it up mate. Loved the distinction of using the phone for its superior audio and camera quality.
Thanks a ton Dominic!
Thank you so much for your video Steve. I have shared it with our entire group of fellowship members at our church and other folks who I wanted to help to understand zoom. Mahalo, Keola
Hi Steve, thanks so much for your tips - will definitely put some books under my laptop :-) Stay safe - Kia Kaha - from New Zealand
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you Steve for the emphasis on camera angle! I can't tell you how many webinars I've attended where I'm looking up into the presenter's nose! Lol. So unprofessional. How can they not have a clue?! It astounds me.
I Know! Yikes!
Wow. This is so useful! I love your easy delivery. I teach dance classes and so I was fascinated with the mixer + mic set up for a higher quality audio video mix. Will try using my iPhone though for regular zoom meetings.
Excellent! Glad this was helpful.
Thanks from New Zealand Steve, nice tutorial. Going to share this with some of my colleagues who I've Zooming with lately ;-)
Please do!
Nice sound, Steve! Very, very much appreciate your time in putting this together. I have used an elevated laptop, iphone, and an ipad pro in my quest to get the best overall setup for Zoom meetings. Here's my take: iPhone -- easy, but too small for video conferencing, because everyone is just too small, especially in Zoom gallery view. iPad Pro -- easy, better because of bigger screen, but the camera angle is not adjustable. Last night we had a Zoom 'dinner' and we had to put the iPad pro about 6 feet (1.8m) away to get the three of us in the shot, and then we found ourselves shouting to be sure our voice carried to the mic on the iPad, and at 6 feet away, the screen was a little too far away to easily see our dinner guests. I then started investigating putting an external mic on the ipad pro with only a usb-c port. Ugh! Lastly, I have used just a laptop with its built-in camera/mic, but with external speakers, and with the laptop on a cookbook stand on top of a stack of books to get the camera at forehead level. The laptop's camera viewing angle is wider, so we can have the laptop more than 1/2 the distance closer to us for the same dinner shot. But I know the mic is sort of crappy. Still looking for better sound, but I don't think my laptop can handle both external speakers and a mic. Also, would like to be able to control the camera viewing angle, but haven't found if that's possible. So, lots of material to cover. Again, thanks!
Great summary! Thanks Ray.
Thanks so much. Great video. I’m using Zoom with my mobile. Was considering getting a separate webcam but will start using my iPad with airpods.
I use a Logitech C920 for ZOOM calls, video only, and a Electrovoice RE320 mic into an audio interface for audio. It's hard for me to imagine using an iPhone with those crappy ear buds as a "vast improvement" when it comes to audio. There are lot's of inexpensive mics that could save the day. I know, I had a Blue Yeti back when I took a class from you, eons ago. P.S. I also use Webcam Settings ($7.99) to control my Logitech. Highly recommend.
Of course not! I was referring to a vast improvement over using a Notebook WebCam and built-in microphone,
A very topical subject with excellent timing - thanks Steve -as usual, you rock!!
Thanks again!
Thank you, Steve! I am a fairly recent subscriber and I find your videos so useful. See you on the next one!
Good presentation and thanks for the tips
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you - this was very helpful.
Glad to hear that!
An excellent presentation. As you say, I suspect that many people will turn to using video conferencing in future. No doubt your contributions will be a great source of knowledge to them when they do.
Hi Steve, there's a lot of coverage about the security issues of Zoom. Could you cover those issues and some solutions in an upcoming video? Thanks for the great content!
Thank you steve, your tutorials are clear and to the point.
I'm using my computer, but I had a really cheap webcam that made me look like something from the Black Lagoon. I switched to using an old phone for my camera and it looks much much better. I have a head set with a mic that ends up right by my mouth so sound quality is pretty good. I've also been using the Zoom background trick to disguise the fact that my office is in my cellar and does not look good. It's a little flacky at times, but looks much better with a backgound I uploaded that relates to my business.
Sounds like you’re putting together a pretty good system! You really don’t need super fancy gear to do a good job in Zoom.
I like that ... 'like something from the Black Lagoon' .... lol.
Thank you so much for all the amazing information that you share so graciously!!!! You are the best!!!! 🙏
You are so welcome
Thank you for the Zoom videos. I had never even heard of this two months ago; last month I started trying to use it.
Great to hear!
Thanks Steve. Very timely and very helpful
dottotech, Steve - Great intro in making a more pleasant conversation better!!! Had my initial conference attempting to show how to get into Zoom. HELP with STEPS TO initiate a ZOOM conference including which APP to select and steps to get AUdio & VIdeo ...REALLY HELPED THE USER IF NOT A BEGINNER!!!
Fantastic!
Thanx Steve...my 2nd rview of your Zoom tutorials. U r a pro!!
Awesome, thank you!
Some great points. Thanks, buddy. I appreciate it. Thumbs up and sharing to some of my friends.
Thanks for sharing. M a teacher and i need the skills for video conference for my online classes during this pandemic period. God bless.
Another great video, Steve. Many thanks. Great idea about using tablets and phones. I can now bring an old iPad out of mothballs and put it to valuable use.
That's a great idea!
Thank you! Useful.
Thank you!! So helpful 🎊
You're so welcome, Judy!
Very nice introduction
Thanks, Steve. These were great tips. Nice to know my smartphone is a good alternative for video calls.
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful, Steve! Thanks 👍
excellent, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is what I'm looking for. I don't want to be a RUclipsr, or invest over a thousand dollars, just want to have good clear audio and decent video.
Thanks again because we play acoustically we have found the original sound setting is useful. Best regards
Chris
Excellent!
Steve, another excellent, timely video. Well done. Please consider an episode on how to use Podcaster Pro for mobile phone and video call interviews. This piece of gear is expensive at $600 here in the USA, but I’m planning to do lots more remote interviewing and bet I’m not the only one. Wishing you and your family and team all the best. Stay well!
Great video. I use my laptop on a raised platform, but will now consider using the smart phone.
I a increasingly liking that option.
Awesome help! You're saving my coworkers more than me by sparing them the terrible audio and angles🤣 Question: if we conference via our phones do we lose ability to screen share etc
There are some screen sharing options, I actually have a video coming out on this in a few days
Great presentation Steve. Very informative. Thank you for presenting!
We shared this video, great tips we wish more people would use! Good luck finding an external webcam right now though...
IKR they ar eon short supply, fortunately you an use your phone or tablet for Zoom which typically have great cameras and good mics
Thank you brother
love your vids, happy to have found your channel
Appreciate your info very helpful!
I really like your videos.
I appreciate that!
Steve, thanks so much for the great content. For many years I've made my living with live entertainment at events, but looking to move into doing shows online like many of my peers. I'm no stranger to a camera, presenting, etc., by any means, but this is otherwise new ground for me. Your content is extremely helpful!
Glad to help!
Excellent.
Awesome video Steve. Thank you so much!
Glad you liked it!
Awesome demos, thank you xx
Any time!
Steve, show us in your videos where you plug things in, like your mic, your camera, how you use your mixer and how it ties into zoom, the cables you use and input and output locations
Thanks Steve - just what I needed!
nice and TIMELY....
Indeed!
Nice content, very useful! Thanks for sharing your video!
Thank you for explaining this. You answered most of my questions.
Excellent video. Love your voice and you make it clear that audio so important, could listen to you all day : ) Do you have advice on how to use zoom audio for an instructor who uses a microphone for speaking and also plays spotify music and then speaks over that? This is important for all kinds of meditation/fitness instructors using zoom.
Thanks Pamela. check in the screen shine options. there is music sharing there
Thanks Steve, This information is, as usual, very helpful. If one doesn't have direct sunlight, what are your thoughts on/what do you do about lighting? A ring light perhaps? Thx.
Absolutely. ring lights are good. I have one I occasionally use.
Thanks for this video Steve. I was having trouble with the mic quality of my relatively cheap USB PC camera but your suggestion to use the smart phone gave me a good idea. I can install Zoom on the phone and using Samsung DEX, I can mirror my phone on my PC and expand the screen so I get PC control with smartphone AV input. Cheers.
Many thanks Steve!
Excellent content. Thank you
It was really helpfu to me Thank You
Very informative video. There's one solution that you left out.. using a desktop speakerphone with built-in mic. There are many of these available on Amazon for example, and a good one is around $100.
Thank you
Love the video. Can you do a video using an external monitor and webcam setup? Thanks!
any one have concerns with the recent security/privacy issues with zoom? do you know of or have you tried any open source alternatives?
I will be doing a video on one type of security, keeping your sessions private, btu the issues around encryption are not an issue for the vast majority of us.
Sorry it’s taken me two years to find your RUclips channel, but I’m glad I landed on this one. Having worked as a television broadcast sound engineer for twenty-seven years, I often said that people would forgive a lot when it came to video quality, e.g. colour temperature and focus ... but tune out if they can’t hear you. Why’d he say? What’s that noise in the background? Is that his dog? Can he hear me? Why is there an audio delay? Why is the sound so muffled?
Steve, great video I had the same video Idea, you beat me to the punch. Great job, you are a tough act to follow, thank you for your insight. Us old coggers gotta stick together...Keep on killing it...
I hope you make yours anyway! There is a huge thirst for this content right now!
Thanks a lot
Great presentation - any tips on troubleshooting eg grainy video?
Thank you this Video helped a lot..
I was hoping you would show the usb mic / headset setup...the sound is low in my headphones. I also have the Rodecaster Pro so I would have enjoyed seeing how you set it up for the call.
We'll consider that next time.
You are so much fun and also able to simplify things! Question: if I use my iPhone for holding a Zoom workshop, and simultaneously sign into my laptop to increase screen space... can I sign in as a Host from both devices at the same time? The purpose is to increase the screen space so that I could devote it totally to the presentation ..thanks
Really enjoyed the video will adding a label mic help my video sound better through by IPad or Android phone?
Helpful tips. I am big fan of hands free communication and using an ear bud for short term might be helpful , but during long hours- Not a good idea. Rightly said "Audio is Key" . I use a CHAT50 speakerphone with echo Cancellation built in ..
This is an awesome video, insisting on the audio quality was very helpful, you just had a new sub :-) keep it up
Thanks for the sub!
Please demonstrate how to set up poll or polling
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank you Steve!
Very welcome
