    I’m just beginning to look at this hobby. Being recently retired, I’m already bored of hiking through green tunnels on happy trails. Your review of this machine was outstanding. So credible. The Ace 400 was recommended by my son-in-law, an EOD tech, but this is apparently an upgrade he doesn’t know about. Thank you for making the vid.

      I see this is an older video on that sure if you ended up buying an apex or not but yes it's a huge difference because it is multi-frequency and that technology is far superior to single frequency machines like the ace 400. Thank you for your view and comment! Also thank you to your son-in-law for his service!! 🇺🇸

    Hello my name is Larry,, if I may Let me give you a quick overview..
    I have always wanted a metal detector so I went on Amazon,, and I was looking through them all and something kept drawing me to this particular metal detector and I don’t know what it was because I had no idea what I was doing..
    So they had a good deal on it along with the handheld detector as a package deal,, I obviously had no idea how to use it..
    So I went on RUclips you were the first one that came up..
    So I watched your video and was very impressed,, I need to thank you very much for that.. You were very thorough and informative,, You taught me a lot And I really need to thank you for that.. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    Only downside I have with mine was the depth the stock coil reaches on small relics and such. I bought the reaper coil at the beginning of the week and it makes all the difference. I found a 120+ year old shotshell head in my back yard and I had walked over the spot dozens of times with the stock coil. Love the machine overall and now that I have the big coil too I just need some warm weather to go digging! Thanks for your efforts out there!

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  3 года назад +4

      Thank you for the view and comment hope you will subscribe too. I have not heard of this coil yet but I will definitely check it out asap!! I know that it can really benifits from a bigger coil for some situations. But in heavy iron where there is a whole bunch of nails, etc in the dirt with coins and relics mixed it, or in a park where there are lots of bottle caps and pull tabs with coins and jewelry mixed in, the large coil could be a disadvantage because it will hear too many undesirable targets and not detect the small item hiding in the heavy iron or trash.

      @@BrassMedic I have found your insight to be spot on. The Reaper has been great away from the parks. The immediate areas around two houses that were torn down I’ve searched are so full of trashy signals that I have considered a 6” coil.

      Your exactly right, at least you can change frequencies to avoid interference from other machines, but keep in mind, if you switch to the Ace Apex, the other machines that don't have this feature may still hear you! So you may have to change channels for them. Thank you for the view and comment!!! You will love this machine, huge upgrade from the Ace 300.

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  19 дней назад

      I also tried all of those same machines at some point as every new detector came out I had to try them. 😜 I also got a lot of friends and family into the ace 250s when they came out as I said in my video here. To answer your question I had done the video on the ace Apex right after I did the video on the Minelab Vanquish 540 pro pack so I had both of those machines out within a week of each other. And I would just say they were very comparable in almost every way as far as performance goes that means in depth of detection and an amongst iron and trash, very similar performance for budget multi-frequency machines back then. My biggest complaint about both was just build quality and that they were not waterproof. Keep in mind that at the same time that I am trying these machines out I also own a CTX 3030 which is like an appendage to me I know that machine inside and out it speaks to me in 3D I can hear size shape density and depth. So nothing compares really back then. So these budget multi-frequency machines were like toys compared to my CTX 3030. I hope that makes sense and doesn't offend you in any way. I really appreciate your view and comment! Happy Holidays and best of luck on your adventures!!

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  Год назад +1

      Great question. So the big difference is the Apex is multi-frequency which is just simply all around better performance in most all detecting scenarios. If water proof is important to you, neither of these is ideal. But to get into an Apex from the AT Pro is a significant upgrade. Better performance, better audio, better screen and better build quality. Thank you for the view and comment!

    • @Jbonn6141

      Higher numbers (80s, 90s) are more electrically conductive. Think copper and silver. Lower numbers, 30s 40s are less conductive. Think iron or foil. Hope this helps

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  26 дней назад

      Hello, I plan to answer all of my comments however I started with the newest comments and I'm all caught up to this point which is over a year ago. If you still need to know this information those numbers are tied to conductivity so the more conductive a metal object is the higher it will score on the visual discrimination meter. An example is a copper coin is a very highly conductive metal as is silver. However, gold is not as conductive and scores a lower number. Thank you for your view, comment and question!

    Great review - thanks. Question in reference to the charging port, I hear through the grapevine that some APEX owners have been successful at adding a permanent small magnetic charging lead to the port that is left on all the time and fits under the cover for magnetic charging. We all know how ports can get discombobulated over time - your thoughts.

      I've done this. It's a no brainer, I installed it within days of getting my apex because I just know the port will end up getting filled with sand, dust and salty sea air. Works great 👍. The rubber plug does sometimes pop out, even without the magnetic installed.

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  3 года назад

      Hi Nick, Thank you for the comment/questions and for the view. Hope you will subscribe too. The machine control head is not "waterproof", it is water resistant. Which simply means it can't be submerged (for underwater operation) in water but can withstand rain, moisture and condensation or rinsing with water to clean it. As far as the buttons, they are sealed, it's just that the die cut faceplate over them leaves an area where dirt, dust and grime can accumulate. I hope this answers your questions. My email is in the description below should you have any other questions. But I will answer your questions here too! Best of luck out there, Mark 🤠

      @BrassMedic  2 года назад

      Unfortunately not! It's a silent search machine and I really wish I would have addressed this issue in my review as I am a huge fan of threshold and I like the audio information I get with a threshold, especially when looking for gold nuggets. This is not a machine I would grab to take out on a nugget patch so it's not a huge deal but I do feel it is a disadvantage. Thank you for your view and comment/question.

    What metal detector would recommend for rings and jewelry 400-1000$ range?

      Firstly I would recommend a used Minelab Equinox 800 (for around $500), then if buying new, the Minelab X-Terra Elite, or the Nokta Legend or at the top of the budget go with the Minelab Equinox 900. Thank you for your view and comment/question!

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  3 года назад

      Hello and thank you for your kind comment, video view and questions! The small gold jewelry and small gold nuggets are better detected at higher frequencies. 5kHz is more ideal for deep silver coins where the other end of the higher frequencies will detect small gold jewelry and nuggets, even gold necklace chains (which are a major challange for most other metal detectors). I hope this helps! Feel free to email any other questions to my email in the video description. Happy Trails! 🤠⛏️

      Hello, Thank you for your view and question. Other than the fact that it is made in the USA, it's still just a machine with a metal detecting circuit in it that will perform equally as well in soil anywhere in the world. Whether or not this is the right machine for you depends mostly on what type of detecting you will be doing. For example, beach, gold, parks, fields and relics, jewelry, etc. I can tell you that the machine looks and feels great in the hand, it's really a beautiful design and pretty snazzy for a metal detector. It also depends on your budget as well.

    Why isn't the Apex in the same class as the EQ800 or the Legend? What is lacking or is it just the price difference? Thanks!

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  2 года назад

      This is a great question!! It's simply the cost and some extra features (in discrim and search modes) in the Minelab and Nokta. I do prefer the sounds of the Minelab over the Garrett but just because the budget is different doesn't mean it's not in the same class as the Minelab of Nokta Makro Ledgend. All are Multi-frequency. I guess the ability of the Equinox 800 to have individual parameters in each search mode that can be customized, tweaked and saved is a huge difference from the Garrett. Keep in mind that the modes on the Garrett Ace Apex are kind of just smoke and mirrors compared to other two machines you mentioned in as far as each mode on the Garrett is simply just a different discrimination pattern! It's a very simple design and interface. Turn it on, ground balance, then choose you operating frequency and off you go. You get what you pay for in this industry in most cases. I think Nokta Makro however shatters that old saying as they continue to make incredibly powerful and robust, capable machines at a great price! Build quality of the machines are noticibly different as well. In my opinion the Nokta Makro and Minelab are built much better, especially with regards to using them in the elements of rain, ice, heat and banging them against rocks, tree branches, etc. Maybe I should do a video talking about all of this!!?? Thank you for the view and terrific question!

    I have another question
    I was using zero mode to search all metal but someone told me that zero option is used to deselect all metals. He suggested me to use custom mode,if I'll use zero mode then my target will be distracted
    Please tell me about zero mode and suggest me which mode i should use

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for your view and comment. The search mode called Zero is a mode that has no discrimination and therefore hears everything under the coil. This can be very annoying in sites where there is a lot of nails or bits of iron. Also tough to listen to in parks with lots of metal trash in the ground. This is a good mode if you "want" to hear everything listening for high tones in and amongst the trash. However a better mode to start with could be custom which starts in coin mode and allows you to accept or reject any targets you want and then save it as a custom preset. I hope this helps, for further info you can email me at the email address in the description of the video. Cheers, Mark 🤠

Just a step above in budget, bit a HUGE leap in performance would be the absolutely incredible new Nokta Makro Legend. I am thinking of buying a detector in this price range. I wonder how much chance I have of eliminating the silver wedding ring in highly contaminated soils? When I started looking for metals, I lost it in a garden. It is full of other metals in the ground. Since I was searching with the Ace 250, the Apex should suffice in terms of depth. I really want to find him. Is Apex good enough for that? What do you recommend?

For a first detector this machine is pretty advanced but if you end up enjoying this hobby you won't need to upgrade as this is a professional detector that ranks up with some of other best machines available. Another option is to get a hold of your local detecting club and see if they can come find your ring for you. Best of luck! Mark

      @BrassMedic  3 года назад +1

      Hello, and Thank You for the view and comment/question. I can highly recommend this machine over the AT Pro for a few reasons. Mainly the performance of multi-frequency and features such as iron audio and wireless headphones. But there is a huge improvement in build quality between these two machines. The AT Pro was built and first sold back in 2010 so it is an 11 year old design, looks very dated as compared to this incredible looking, modern designed machine. The price is very comparable so if I could only choose one of these two to own and use it would absolutely be the Ace Apex. If you find a really good deal on a used AT Pro, it will serve you well and dig lots of incredible items. It may feel like a downgrade leaving the AT Series to go to the Ace series but in this case, not so much! 🤠⛏️

At pro does not have a back light, it uses older technology, it is not multi-frequency, it does not have 175 points of ground balancing like the AT max. Apex also performs way better in salt-water and the beach. Also don't forget the apex can be updated the at pro cant you get what you get with it. That's just some of the reasons to go for the apex over the at pro.

    • @BrassMedic

    Why no setting for gold?

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  3 года назад

      Tough for me to answer that question on behalf of Garrett but I can assume it's because they do make and sell good specific machines, designed to find gold nuggets. The jewelry setting on this machine is just a discrimination pattern to let gold jewelry and even nuggets be heard. However the circuit was not designed to be optimized for gold. The multi-frequency feature does help a bit as higher frequencies tend to detect gold better than lower frequencies with tend to hear deep silver coins better. So this machine is versatile in that way but it clearly is not a detector to be marketed to someone looking to detect nuggets. So to answer your question which was "Why no setting for gold?",it kind of does have that setting as the jewelry program (discrimination pattern) will detect gold nuggets and let them be heard and that is a setting. Hope this answers your question. For more info, feel free to ask other questions here or at my email in the description of this video. Thank you for the view and I hope you will subscribe.
