    Brenton, i’ve been watching your channel for about a year and your videos have made a big difference to my swimming.
    I’ve gone from swimming in a medium lane to now the fast lane at sustained long distance pace very few of my triathlete buddies can live with unless its a short distance (i swim for a workout).
    I recently swam in a pool that was 3c colder than normal and could feel the flow of water past me when my stroke was perfect and the opposite when it was not. More over, i can imagine open water swimming would do tbe same thing (not i’ve had the vourage to try yet).
    Thanks again Brenton, genuinely appreciate what effortless swimming do.

    Thanks so much for another great video and drills, can t wait to try them! I must say that I was subscribed to all the swim channel but this is THE ONE I have kept. The learning points are subtle yet you have a knack for making the solutions really practical and impactful. I would love to make one of the camp if I ever make it to "Down under". I have noticed on your site that you recommend the DMC elite fins, they seem like a great product, which one is best the Elite 1 or Elite 2?

    The old man swimming like a seahorse in the other lane at the 4 minute mark made me laugh so hard. The way the camera was moving made him appear to be flying through the water. Anyhow keeping the shoulder closer to the head is something I've tried and will give it another try.

Dropped 1:30 in 1000m by focusing on keeping the shoulder up and getting my catch phase in a more powerful position. Thanks for the tip. It really helped.

    My personal belief is the greatest difficulty in high elbow is inherent shoulder flexibility( or rather lack of it). Forcing the rotation needed to attain the very high elbow of Olympians I have come to believe is a big cause of injury to less gifted swimmers.

    What about when you're rotating? Your shoulder is automatically going to drop

  • @SVC-hz6dq
    @SVC-hz6dq 6 лет назад +5

    Very good remark indeed, as it is fundamental and it doesn’t come evident to me. Dropping the shoulder hinders a proper catch. A good way to measure it is by self awareness of the gap that forms between shoulder and chin. The more tired the bigger the tendency of this gap to grow.

    i figured it out. you have to hold your elbow high, while you protrude your shoulder forward by protruding your scapula forward. it feels like you caught the water. you have to learn to contract the right muscles at the right time, then rotate.

    A question (not a diss). I notice that swimmer's hand scoops back up slightly after entry. Is that ideal and what you'd like to see, or would a continuous downward trajectory provide more power and less drag? I see quite a few fast swimmers do this, but that seems counter to drag-minimization.

    • @EffortlessSwimming
      @EffortlessSwimming  6 лет назад +2

      I see it quite often with many good swimmers, and it's that slight movement forwards and upwards that creates some lift out front for them. While I wouldn't teach it, it seems to be quite effective for them. Notice it doesn't drift up very high or very long, so it's a subtle movement that doesn't seem to slow them down.

    Soon after this moment (ruclips.net/video/d40c8WL2XJQ/видео.html), you say (elite swimmers') 'shoulders and upper arm are almost in a straight line'. It make sense to me, as that position would ensure the large back (lats) are fully engaged. Nevertheless, that is the first time I've heard anyone say that, despite having (over decades) watched many hundreds of videos and read countless articles and even a book on swimming technique. You should emphasize that point often.

    High elbow catch is way over rated. Build rock solid legs and kick like hell. A 🦈 doesn't have a high elbow catch and it moves through the water pretty damn good. Focus on building yacht sized legs and ripping through the water with them. The arms, shoulders, back and core will fall in line from the leg movement. Besides, injury can result from an unnatural focus on this high elbow bullshit. Look at the underwater vids of Olympic swimmers and watch how fast they lick their legs, and their breathing is almost always out of one side of their mouth, rarely ever out of both sides. Most take only a few breaths per 50 meters. Study the best and copy.
