Especially enjoyed this Fixed Friday episode; a couple nights ago I was playing a 6 player Classic Global Dom and due to a poor placement I was forced to fight for and do an Australian Turtle. Made it by the skin of my teeth and was firmly in 6th when about a 1/2 dozen turns in the #4 player was taken out by the leader who shortly botted out when he realized how bad the exchange went. Within the next dozen or so turns 3 other players botted out so I ended up fighting 4 bots and a live player who had double my troops. Quite a while later I won the game much to my human adversary's surprise. I am especially proud of this one.

The problem with letting utilitarianism kill a bunch of people is that utilitarianism can get utility calculations wrong sometimes (inherent biases, bad data, etc.) and it's much better for long-term utility-maximization for the fail state to be "we try investing in a government program for a few years and then realize it doesn't work" than to be "we kill millions/billions of people".
@@TheKillPeteStrategy this was my exact thought when you commented on this subject, you’re trying to play risk, while also dipping your toes into an extremely deep and complex subject. Not the ideal situation to go into depth on it
It’s a nice thought and it allowed the Egyptians, Romans, and Spartans to get a lot done but eventually the slaves always rise against their masters. Forced indoctrination, such as the janissary core of the ottomans, is a much more viable option on the long term; using children of their conquered enemies they created an army willing to die on command and almost bring all of Europe to its knees.

Regarding your take on capital punishment. One fair point is if countries matched the amount they spent on prisons in alleviating poverty a large portion of people that end up in prison wouldn't. Most people aren't going to resort to crimes like petty theft or small time burglary if they have a job with a wage that allows them to live a comfortable lifestyle, instead we have a situation where many people are in a position where they can work 40-50 hours a week and still be struggling to make ends meet or they can break into someones house and nick a TV, if they don't get caught then they have more money than they otherwise would and if they do get caught at least they are guaranteed 3 meals a day, a roof over their head and all the healthcare they need which for many is a better lifestyle than they would for going out and doing an honest days work.
In regard to greens play, I think some aspects of what they did was good no continent strategy. If you do decide to go no continent then you need to deny all players NA, if you don't think the rest of the board is going to block it then you need to do it yourself then try to get as many easy cards as possible in Asia and hope the rest of the board go to war. So 47:53, it's not a good idea to stack in siam in this case ( as It's the last territory in the bot continent). if you stack in Indonesia the bot won't be incentivized to put its set there as it already has enough troops to roll a one and it won't have enough troops left to break Australia. Another thing to note is Bot logic thinks one step at a time it can't think 3 steps ahead so whatever you are trying to defend, as long as it's not immediately bordering a bot, would likely not be *targeted* by it.

I play a lot of expert solo. One thing I learned about playing bots. Even if you are close to losing, take as much land as you can, guard nothing, and just keep playing like a complete moron, and you will eventually end up top.
Regarding censorship, you have the right to say what you want, what you don't have is the right to say what you want without criticism or consequences.
Hey Pete, love the content!! When you are taking territories super fast, what buttons or settings do you use to make that happen? I'm guessing I have some 'animation settings' still up because just hitting 'enter' as fast as I can feels pretty slow. Also love to hear your spot on views about social media weaponizing latent angst and lack of purpose for profit and political division, as well as how the economy is mostly speculation at this point. Totally agree and it's always great to see whenever people see through the fog of blaming "the other side" for everything that seems wrong
The problem with the life ruination scale is it inevitably turns into the impact ruination scale and with impact you have infinite points of and cannot be scaled definably. Also how do you define impact what with emotional, physical, and potentially spiritual. It may not be perfect but violence/physical is the most definable.
Idea: live board game stream. That is, Risk-but not online; use the board we've all played with at home? Kind of a live poker game, live D&D kinda vibe. No? Obviously, you wouldn't be able to do it often. Maybe a monthly event. Or, get this-hyped up for over a year with special guests. Special stakes? (I don't know, I'd watch. Lots might.)
Holy shit Pete, I was not ready for you to mention that a bullet is 50¢, never really critically thought about how we're literally clothing and feeding criminals and letting homeless people die in the streets. I don't think that killing the criminals is a great idea though because there are often people wrongly accused of things and the death penalty is irreversible. It's a lot of power for the state to have too. Wish there was a better option than clothing and feeding them
Obviously this is not the medium for an in depth conversation on the topic. Maybe one day I'll put together my comprehensive social political philosophy like Plato's Republic.
What’s the best way to load risk domination. Can you do it without steam. I’m getting a lot of forced extension and adding which seems more like a scam.
Hey I’m new to this channel. Really enjoy watching and learning. Just have a question - how do you know that they are bots playing instead of people? And what do you mean by “ he’s boting “. Did the players leave the game to let the computer take over? Sorry, I’m just really ignorant about all these things in the game.
Hi Pete! I saw your videos like a week ago and you MADE me get the game! I got it on mobile first lost a ton of games and then got it on steam and had my first win! I never played before but im now a happy 4/22 Intermediate. I love the game but I feel it is impossible to win on mobile because of the speed can you advise which mode can be played on mobile effectively (so far I only played progressive as I like it to be on the quicker side and fixed seems way too slow. It's not that there's a breakdown of rational discourse (though there is that too), there's a rejection of rationalism (a key part of the post-modern rejection of classical western liberalism) altogether.
Your content got me to rediscover my love of this game. I still need to visit your old videos but I would love to see a series covering different " openings" based on where your randomly put.
Spoiler below Although I'm glad green got the axe, it's kind of weird that stream sniping is against TOS for the video game, but listening to your opponents is expected for the actual boardgame. Still super new to this version(s) of the game, just thought that was funny. 😆 I love it whenever cheaters get punished, though!
It's one of the reasons I don't like playing with alliances, you can't form secret alliances when playing the board game so I don't think it should be part of the game when you play online.
Do you play FF without alliances? I feel like there's a definite advantage to at least communicate your movement intentions / collectively break the quick rise of greedy players, but I've yet to see a video with you not using that setting. Most beginners that stumble into my lobbies just seem to be confused when I try and use it. Thx!
Thanks for yet another entertaining video. I find your engagement with the chat charming and natural, adds to the overall great experience. One question regarding this particular video - is it just me or did you change anything in your audio setup? It sounds less clear than usual, a bit “tinny” even, especially near the beginning. Or maybe it’s just me being paranoid🤪 Still, watched and enjoyed the whole thing 👍👍👍
@@TheKillPeteStrategy Putting someone to death requires years and years of many many appeals (and even then innocent people are still put to death...which on its own should be enough of an argument against capital punishment)..which ends up costing the system so much more than a life sentence would
@@garmatey3816 I'm aware. You are highlighting a flaw in the structure of the us justice system as opposed to an argument against capital punishment. I agree that the justice system should be effecient and inexpensive. It's almost like lawyers become politicians who then write more and more complex laws to further enrich themselves rather than focusing on creating a fair justice system.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy A properly working justice system *would* have years and years of multiple appeals before putting someone to death though... Even with that process we put a non-zero number of innocent people to death (which for me is enough of a reason against capital punishment) Even if killing them was cheaper I would still rather pay more to ensure innocent people arent killed by the government
@@garmatey3816 that's where we disagree. I think a proper justice system is extremely minimalistic At least we were able to find and articulate the disagreement.
It would require a rational justice system and an enfranchised populace. The us vs them distinction of the people vs their government need not be the case, it only is the case.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy It is the case because the government almost universally favours supporting the bourgeoisie over the proletariat because of hegemony and 'mutual benefit' between governments and capitalists.. Governments will never be on the side of the people.
I think law and its punishments despite expensive have a deterring effect on individuals seeking to break them. so you can consider the purposes of a legal system. reform? punish? deter? Think what society in general is saying - without law, the problems that arise will be more expensive than running the legal system.

If you ever did make another channel talking about philosophy and politics I'd enjoy that. Also having people on to discuss with you ideas. I had a feeling when you said a bullet for 50 cents that you might be utilitarian then you said "It'd just be a universal utilitarian good! :D" and I was like "Okay that's basically admission" hahaha. That utilitarian argument is an interesting one but runs into many pitfalls, such as the idea of slavery etc. Like if you had a tribe with 50 people enslaving 1 person would lead to the best group outcome and most utilitarian's wouldn't like that and so they have to re-think their positions. The stance of the most good for the most people is how a lot of people define Morality, I define it differently. The major contentions in philosophical and political debate IMO are Semantics, Hyperbole and Binary Thinking. Outside of bad faith actors those 3 things are typically what most people will disagree with each other on. The way you can define someone acting in bad faith is to enquire about their axiomatic principles, example would be if someone puts power and safety above truth, they probably can't engage in good faith to have a truthful conversation if the particular topic is something they want control over.
Capital punishment is a solution that merely addresses an outward symptom. You do nothing to address the root cause of the issue. I firmly believe that every human being acts in a way that can be traced back to prior experiences. The cool thing is can make new experiences to overwrite the old ones and change so that we become different people. Killing people does nothing to lessen the growing suffering and environmental chaos that all people are enduring on some level and that is being outwardly expressed in ever more chaotic and violent ways. I would encourage you to think more deeply about the statement "A bullet is worth 50 cents".
I have. This is not really the medium for an in depth conversation on the subject. Maybe one day I'll be able to put together my comprehensive theory a la Plato's Republic.

I won my first classic fixed game today after watching many of your vids... I beat a GRANDMASTER!!
I play a lot of expert solo. One thing I learned about playing bots. Even if you are close to losing, take as much land as you can, guard nothing, and just keep playing like a complete moron, and you will eventually end up top.
you made me remember I had this game on my phone. thank you I kill time a lot faster now

I dig these fixed Fridays videos, do you stream on RUclips at all?
I haven't figured out how to do that yet.

RIP Bird Blintz. You served Pete well 🫡
Too high profile now. I need better camouflage.

Turn off camera animations in settings.
If you have any questions the q and a thread on the discord is a good place for them. I do it weekly
I love fixed Friday! Been playing more fixed lately myself. Good stuff Pete!
Yesss fixed Friday!
it's insane that we punish crimes on a violence scale instead of on a life ruination scale
I have thought about this. I'll make it happen one day.
I'm almost certain purple did the "fake bot" trick and returned to win the game.
Awful
Holy shit Pete, I was not ready for you to mention that a bullet is 50¢, never really critically thought about how we're literally clothing and feeding criminals and letting homeless people die in the streets. I don't think that killing the criminals is a great idea though because there are often people wrongly accused of things and the death penalty is irreversible. It's a lot of power for the state to have too. Wish there was a better option than clothing and feeding them
Obviously this is not the medium for an in depth conversation on the topic.
Maybe one day I'll put together my comprehensive social political philosophy like Plato's Republic.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy I would be happy to read it, whenever you bring up a philisophical topic on the show it's always super interesting.
Are you not live on RUclips? Also, I had to search as I didn’t get notified of new video
I don't actually know how to do that.
What’s the best way to load risk domination. Can you do it without steam. I’m getting a lot of forced extension and adding which seems more like a scam.
Yeah I use steam
I could comment a thousand times on this, absolutely love it! interesting game with many wise words in between, much appreciated!
When a player leaves or disconnects an ai takes over.
Thanks for the great content( and the new addiction as well ;)
If you wanna play on mobile you can make 90s turn timers. That might help.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy i tried 120 is more useful on mobile but makes the game a bit longer on the other hand I ha my first win while waiting for a mate in the pub (on mobile) so all is well thx for all the educational and more importantly entertaining content

What time would you say you typically stream at I would like to catch your stream sometime
I posted my hours on Twitch.
Your content got me to rediscover my love of this game. I still need to visit your old videos but I would love to see a series covering different " openings" based on where your randomly put.
The existence of the timer does make certain types of analysis more difficult for sure.
Spoiler below
Although I'm glad green got the axe, it's kind of weird that stream sniping is against TOS for the video game, but listening to your opponents is expected for the actual boardgame.
Thx!
Every time I play classic fixed without alliances something goes wrong.

One question regarding this particular video - is it just me or did you change anything in your audio setup? It sounds less clear than usual, a bit “tinny” even, especially near the beginning. Or maybe it’s just me being paranoid🤪
Still, watched and enjoyed the whole thing 👍👍👍
I'm still working on settling the audio to a place where I'm happy with it.
Pardon my cluelessness, but how do bot-out strats work? What does handing control to a bot allow you to do that you couldn't do otherwise?
I'm not trying to promote it.
Hey Pete, how do you fast attack? I spam enter while clicking my mouse but that doesn’t do it as fast as you do

A player disconnected and the AI took over.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy Makes sense, thank you Pete! Gonna catch you live one day :)
Putting prisoners to death ends up being more expensive than imprisoning them for life
This is my favourite
It's definitely more expensive when the entire legal and political system has the metastatic cancer of lawyers.
I think a proper justice system is extremely minimalistic
At least we were able to find and articulate the disagreement.
What’s the hot out advantage
Bots don't get attacked as much as players.
You want the government to have the power to say who lives and who dies? Yea, no thanks.
Best risk player loses to a bot??? WHAT?!? Cmon Ole Pete lol. Great game play though. 👍 can't win everytime 🤷🏻♀️ Hopefully you win tommorow 👩🏻
I would never have claimed that I am the best Risk player.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy I respect that. I agree. I don't think there is a best. You're one of the best though. Like you say: "I am a top player playing risk global domination on PC." Only one of the best. Big respect for you. 😄
I can only play solo expert bots due to mobile data and no wifi. Why do the bots focus on my territories when I can see the "correct" moves that I'd make in their position?? Just wondering if any of you awesome people know 😁
I don't think players would actually want a strong Risk AI that could beat them consistently so I don't think it's high up on the list of things being developed.
Pete does watching on 1.5 speed effect any of your viewership statistics? I watch the 5hr vids on 2.0 speed lol
I don't know and I wouldn't worry about it Brian. You should be free to enjoy the show any way you like.

Yeah man. It's a blessing!
Why is risk for android a third of a gig?
If love to get more into it honestly.
And yes. I've noticed that most people have never trained themselves how to think properly.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy It'd be so cool to do politics and geo-politics while playing risk hahaha!
probably way too late and probably fixed by now, but the gain on your microphone is way too high.
been loving your stuff
Why do all my opponents always attack me?
