- A brief follow-up to my previous video, answering a few more things and clarifying some points, including my improved attitude towards fans, how to buy it retail, signing events, audiobook potential and its strong lack of similarities to specific webcomics.
The book (buy it): www.darkhorse.com/Books/16-577...
The blog (follow this for future updates): www.fullyramblomatic.com/
The bar (where the event I mentioned will happen): www.manabar.com.au/ Приколы
The audiobook is just far more enjoyable in this case, his voice acting really completes it.
I know right, the distinct voices he gives the characters really add a nice touch. Although I was a bit surprised about the voice he gave to Don.
I finally got it, and I just finished listening to it! It's great! :D
You have the most sarcastic voice I have ever heard.
And that's one of the best things about him.
Had to speed this up to 1.25,just sounded wierd otherwise
+Cam Ferguson wow, it actually works too!
By the way the both of his books are wonderfully narrated I have listened to them both multiple times.
I have never seen someone headbang to "Moonlight Sonata" before.
I bought the Mogworld audiobook, it is like pure Audible chocolate for your ears read by Yahtzee! Recommended!
The second book is about an apocalypse. With jam in it.
Called Jam.
mip0 Slam-Jam.
+Conrad Brandt come on and slam!!!
+Vandus Barq Space Jam
I just read Mogworld a few weeks ago. Then I read it again. Then I thought about reading it again, but decided I had already wasted enough of my already sad life and went outside The sun kind of tingled. But all in all, it was an amazing book. Definitely one of the best I've read yet.
Also: I love the creativity in the name "Jim". My mind was blown.
"I'm planning a second novel, and it's tangentially connected to Mogworld"
...Jam, the book about an apocalypse with Jam in it. Can't wait to find out how it's connected.
That ending sure changed my mood.
And my underpants.
Those of you who have read the book should check out the reviews online. I read several of them, and most of them are just saying "I have absolutely no experience reading books and no understanding of the story, therefore it is flawed, has no plot, contradicts itself, and rambles!1"
Well, it's a bit more nuanced than that, and you have to read a little between the lines.
If you've listened to Yahtzee's "Let's Drown Out" series, you would recognize them as the type to raise their hand and say, "OOH, OOH! I don't know!"
interestingly, I bought it on my kindle and the lowest review i could see was four stars.
*****
"I haven't read it, my opinion is still valid!"
Messmon As someone who read both books, Mogworld is better than Jam. *****
***** wow, could you please be a little more pathetic?
aran carr-brown
Don't worry, he's literally 12. He'll come to regret his retarded posts and he'll also learn what a review is in a few years.
I would love an audio version. I'm not sure how much of my love of ZP is divided between your wit in writing, your knowledge of gaming, and your voice, but more of stuff similar would be absolutely fantastic.
For the record: Richard from LFG is an Undead WARLOCK... Yeah, he has powers of a Mage, but that's a factor that makes him... himself.
Well there goes my secret desire to someday meet him and try to talk about something.
Though that would have probably been a very short and awkward conversation.
"...to use the word "conversation" generously"
funny anecdote he told in a let's play: a fan approached him at a bar saying something like "hey not to bother you but..." and Yahtzee replied "yet here you are" and the fan left. yahtzee actually felt sorry afterwards and wanted to appologize.
Which video?
Helter Skelter it's a let's drown out I think it's one of the Dark Souls 2 ones, sorry i can't remember which one exactly.
His gun will do the talking, and his gun only knows one very loud word.
A wise man once said to me, "Get the fuck off those train tracks you lunatic."
Now that's a wise man.
Yaaaahtzee, I love audiobooks! (I live in Portland, OR which has one of the best library systems in the US so I have lots of access) I grew up a voracious reader but as an adult, I never have time to sit with a book and just read. I have a stack of books with bookmarks at the end of the first chapter!
I am self employed and I work with my hands. I now listen to over three hundred books a year (thanks again to my library system) which I would never have had the time to read otherwise. Audiobooks mean I can do two things at once.
I don't know if you're making a joke or what, but audio books have been released for both his novels. You can find them most anywhere sensible.
On the audiobook:
We just like your voice, be flattered by that (and our lack of imagination).
Charming. Your two quick response videos proved more humorous and delightful than the much anticipated Best Show in the Universe.
Ola! I found your teabagging mutants video and this channel through that half of a youtube url in Mogworld. I'm glad you chased your dream to write it, and it's pretty great. I'm reading it while sitting and waiting for things to finish on my own book, so good luck all around.
Yahtzee, after like three months of my story on hiatus, you inspired me to continue writing again
"I like Terry Pratchett...on and off."
Fuckin' spot on. My husband worships at the altar of Pratchett but I find some of his books weird and hard to get into.
+KMildenhall Pratchett's my favourite author, but I understand if people do not like his works as much as I do. I still believe that the man will always be in a league unto his own.
Well, it's my belief that when you develop your own system of physics for a fictional world, you've ascended far beyond the mental capabilities of most grubs. And this is coming from a grub.
Thanks for the shout-out to the visually impaired. :D I actually do want to read Mogworld but it is so far not available in any format accessible to the blind. I'd definitely be interested in an audio book version; you do have a great reading voice.
probably too late to ask about this, but when does the fourth book in the trilogy come out?
Fourth?.damnit there hasn't even been a third!!,come to think of it there hasn't even been a second either.
he's supposedly working on a third book.
I have been reading the book intensely for three days now, and I love it so far.
The ending is just about perfect
Mogworld reminds me of a fanfic I read on PlanetHalfLife back before Adobe ruined Flash. It was about TFC, of all things, and the characters coming to grips with the strange rules of the Team Fortress universe.
I had to pause this a few times because the sarcasm had me laughing wayyy too hard. As for the novel, I'm extremely excited to pick it up the day it comes out. My sister and I are going to approach the trip to the store as an extremely important quest/awesome road trip. And no, I do not have a life, BUT I REGRET NOTHING.
All stupid gushing aside...Thank you for making my day, Yahtzee, and I seriously cannot wait to read Mogworld.
Can you do one of these for "Will Save The Galaxy For Food"?
the audio book version is amazing, you guys should def get it!!
Yahtzee, I always enjoy watching your videos and listening to your fast-paced commentary. I would, however, like to clarify just one thing. I've lived near Philadelphia my entire life, so I'll say this: You don't need to be "packing heat" through all of the city, just 70-80% of it.
Nobody will ever understand the pain i feel, watching Yahtzee videos, witnessing the expert wit, and oddly charming combination of narcissism and self-deprecation, and lamenting that I am not he, and perhaps the most tragic is that there isn't ennething i can do about it.
At least you're the embodiment of death itself, eh
Looking forward to the release. definitely going to buy the book
Good question. He mentioned the bar in one of his reviews.
Is that seriously the headset he uses to record? Wow. It sounds really good.
I taught myself to play moonlight sonata because I love it so much on the public piano in our dorm. I never had a piano before. Feels good man.
I just ordered my copy, I really look forward to reading it! :)
It came out 2 years ago today. Time flies.
I'm definitely getting this, it's going to be fun narrating this with your voice in my head, and I mean that in the least creepy way possible.
Moonlight Sonata. Yahtzee. And my favourite book written in the past 10 years. This is the greatest video on RUclips
I finished Mogworld last night and it was awesome. My biggest complaint about the book is that on page 263, the paragraph that starts "If you merely..." has an extra space at the beginning. TRACK DOWN YOUR EDITORS AND SMACK THEM UPSIDE THE HEAD.
Haha, anyway, I'm been recommending the book to all of my friends. Definitely do the audiobook, I'd buy that too, and you could charge more for it. I can't wait to read your next book Yahtzee, you got me back into reading!
great the bit at the end will haunt my nightmares for weeks to come....
just finished readin this book. are you gonna do a video for the next one Jam, or are you just gonna plug it in ZP for a while?
I'd really love an audioversion!
Just ordered Mogworld on amazon. Least I could do to say thanks to the awesome videos
@Wedwickboy Oh right! I keep forgetting. He only moved to Australia.
I know this is 12 years old but I thought you might be interested to know that I just remembered Mogworld as a real game… I spent about an hour trying to figure out what the game was before it clicked that it was actually a book 🤦♂️
I’d say this proves how brilliantly Mogworld was written!
@spitss I'm fairly sure he lives in Melbourne. And runs a venue called The Mana Bar there.
Really looking forward to another book. Mogworld was great.
You own a bar?! Awesome reviews, writes books, looks good in a suit and owns a freakin' bar. Truly, is there nothing this man cannot do?
is the song at the beginning the same song from the tar of spider-man web of shadows ?
Mr Croshaw, your bar has inspired me to move to Austrailia!
He was 27 years old when this was uploaded.
It'll happen to you too.
You should make the last part of that video a television advert.
I love the beginning quote.
the amazon uk site and play both have it down for an august 31st release.
This isnt his first written work of fiction. He's written several short stories on his website. He always wrote a short story for the book "Machine of Death" which was simply amazing.
I have come from the future to tell you that you do indeed make an audiobook version, and your next novel is about Jam, which doesn't sound like it's connected to Mogworld but I wouldn't know since I've never read it.
Don't know if it is the same, but it is Mozart's Requiem.
with captions on he says: "a wise man once said to me, get the front office train tracks you do in effect!" when i saw that i LOLd
@MammothMan34, I think it's the Moonlight Sonata by Bethoven(sp?).
Oh cool, I didn't even know you were planning a second book. Awesome, because I was hoping there would be a spiritual successor of sorts to Mogworld after I read it. Not a sequel, I'm not an idiot.
Whats That Music :? have heard it somewhere before
Anyone know the name of the song used at the end?
"Lets leave things with a complete change of mood..."
I LAUGHED MY ASS OFF. Brilliant!
What's that song at the start? I know it from somewhere...
I couldn't help but recall watching Eraserhead in a dark dorm room late at night during those last few seconds.
@GuruGloin He's English born, he moved to Australia from the UK.
when is mogworld-
(Rock music)
- coming out in the uk?
It's 12:14am here in the UK, and I need to sleep before work. That 'change of mood' will now ruin any chance of a good nights sleep I had planned for tonight
What's the name of the piano song?
what is the melody at the intro ? reply pls :)
I have a friend who works in Waterstones. He mentioned he got his manager to order in quite a few copies for the release date, so I assume its on all of the bookstore's systems. I'm sure if you ask, they'll be able to atleast find it for you.
By the way, did Yahtzee actually make an audio version of him reading the book out? I HAVE A VISUAL IMPAIRMENT THAT IS NO FAULT OF MY OWN.
really good book, cant wait for your next one.
for people who have read it, whos your fav character and what parts did you enjoy? ^^
hes crazy but i really liked Mr Wonderful. and the part i loved was dreadgrave talking to jim while hes watching his army take care of some adventurers. really nice to see the evil boss care about his men XD
The face he does at 2:22 is one of the first things to make me actually laugh out loud on the internet in a long time.
Being from the Philadelphia area, I'm glad you were able to walk away with some additional skills! XD
are you going top put that darn kindle version up?
what headset is he using?
Whats the music at start?
Yahtzee, I know you probably know this but raising your eyebrow and looking at the camera during the part specifically for people who can't see what you're doing is kind of pointless. Just thought I'd mention this in case you didn't know that.
thhiiink he was referring to people who have to wear glasses... like him
late comment, yeah, but every time I here that piece of music (moonlight sonata) I hear Dud singing 'fu-kin' el'...'
should do one set in a different genre, like RPG or FPS?
He was only in Philly for a short while and already learned how we roll.
The end scared the shit out of me
I actually loved Mogworld! More, please, if you don't mind.
What was the name of the song in the last video, damn it!?
@DRealfriknKeenan He wears a trilby. The rim on a trilby flicks up at the back whereas the trim on a fedora does not.
@spitss You could say that, I suppose. Personally, I'd say if you live as a resident of a country, you count as a member of that country's nationality as well as your own. Anyway, the point is, in Australia the attitude toward firearms (probably liquor too) is less restrictive than in England.
how did you go about getting published by dark horse?
This is NOT available on iBooks. One question: why not?
When I found out Yahtzee was born in the same town as me it filled me with hope... hope that people can make something of their lives and escape the miserable futureless void that is Rugby. It is the best definition of Grey...
Is there an audio book version?
I'd be keen for an audiobook
OMG the end made me laugh and now i cant stop, help me!!!
Hey Yahtzee,
Read the book and i have to say it was amazing. Loved to right until te last word of the epilogue! :D Would be awesome to possibly meet you in person as i live in brisbane myself. Anyway im not terribly worried if you read this or not, just thought about voicing my opinion :)
Loved it and it changed my perspective on rpg's forever. Keep up the good work :D
what song is this??
Please put it on Itunes!
I really did enjoy your book.
why are games so expensive in australia?
Anyone who's wondering whether to buy the book... GO AND BUY IT. THIS MAN IS INCREDIBLE.
