    Very nice discussion. I live on a small plot of land with a small house. I have started gardening after getting frustrated with commercial vegetables. The home grown vegetables are so much tender and tastier than store bought vegetables. I do not use any insecticide or pesticide. I have little problems with insects eating my vegetables. I have also flowers. My backyard is teaming with bees, butterflies, birds and other insects. Gardening takes so little time and gives so much food. I am in much better mood after I started gardening. Unfortunately most people nowadays can not afford to live in a house and have some land to grow their own food.

    Liberty and purpose is all one needs for a good life. Unfortunately here in the UK this is almost forgotten.
    My next door neighbour converted their 3 bed bungalow into a 5 bed, they have 4 cars, 2 motorcycles, 3 dogs and they, all 3 of them, are obese. Very strange.

    THANK YOU for discussing dogs. I see so many people treating dogs horrifically. I have two - they saved me as much as I saved them. I don't control them with ANY violence - never have. They simply follow me and are right now laying next to me because I give them an abundance of love and joy. They don't run away or misbehave simply on their own. But you bring me to remember that feeding my dogs has caused violence to other animals. This is all very complicated. I DO live with less, I DO grow my own food organically I AM vegan, I DO harvest rainwater and...I do work on self growth/awareness. But as you said, Jon, it's impossible to live without violence completely = but we CAN reduce it greatly. ! thank you for bringing this concept to everyone's attention for more growth and understanding. It definitely shows me an area where I need to direct more consciousness and improvement.

      Cow, goat, sheep, etcs' production are fast. If people don't eat them, the plants are gonna get eaten before us and thus its high violence from animal to us, almost like war.

      In the developed world, such as USA, dogs are generally kept on short leash, and prevented from calm natural interactions with other people and other animals. People are too afraid that their dog might bite someone. In turn that fear and anxiety is transfered to the dog. Pets in the USA almost live as prisoners in their owners homes.

    • @JaniceSkidmore
      @JaniceSkidmore 2 года назад

      @@_Wai_Wai_ Very untrue. My dogs have 2 acres to run free on. I walk them off leash in the abundant spaces around me. There are times when I must leash them, of course - when we are in an environment with cars, trains, busses, etc. Mu dogs live as beautiful a life as possible with me. They live 16 years on average. So.. your assumption about dogs in the US needs some reflection. What your write clearly not an absolute truth.

    • @_Wai_Wai_
      @_Wai_Wai_ 2 года назад

      @@JaniceSkidmore I live in suburbs, even there, the dogs are always leashed. Because there are rules home owners in the neighborhood must follow. In the cities, even more so. Unless you live in some open place like Montana, Wyoming, with very few people, dogs in USA are always on leash or stay at homes. Many of them turn into aggressive dogs, because of pent up energy.

I have an awful time doing the vegetarian thing. I heard about a dairy cow the farmer retired because her ribs gave out after having her 6th calf. I am looking at coconut milk and other rich plants to replace the animal products. Your talks are very encouraging, Thank you.

    This was an amazing and thoughtful discussion. I agree about how we have conveniently distanced ourselves from the cruelty of animals. I have several chickens of different sizes and colors .. and a male Turkey that is 7 or 8 years old. I do not kill and eat them .. I use them for their composting material .. and for their eggs. I have one young one that likes to come close at feeding time .. I pick it up and pet it. I do hate having to cull the extra males .. which I have to do to keep peace in the yard. When I do .. I throw the males into a pond and let the turtles and fish feed on them. I think there has to be a compromise or balance of thought .. so many farm raised animals have a good life .. protected from the cold, given food and water .. live sometimes for several years .. and then have one bad day! The predator may be a raccoon, opossum, hawk, coyote, or bobcat .. or a man. Nature uses predators like lions to keep herds of deer strong taking out the weak or old. I like what you had to say .. about them not taking more than they need .. greed is violent!

    Life isn't about violence.
    This is a learned behaviour.
    Eating a plant based diet is a way of decreasing the suffering of animals and humans.
    We don't need to eat and kill innocent animals for nutrition or to be healthy.
    Take what we need and give what we can.
    Live simply so others may simply live.
    We can only do the best we can.
    Life may be about suffering, sure, but as Buddha said, there is a way out of this suffering. LOVE!
    Live and let live.
    May all beings be happy.

    I understand you, violence is everywhere, but while we can not stop it, we can surely minimize it. I am vegan exactly because of this, i want to minimize this violence as much as I can. I will also try to grow my own food without chemicals. I care more about sentient life because I know it can suffer, that excludes plants,microbes and such.

    • @-whackd
      @-whackd 2 года назад +4

      I don't think a tree likes being cut down. It sends out chemical and other messages that are like screams when it is injured. You prioritize certain lives over others because some organisms have a nervous system more similar to yours, whereas you do not care about distributed nervous systems.

    • @v3gan4life
      @v3gan4life 2 года назад

      @@-whackd Exactly. Don't get me wrong, trees are amazing, but they just react to stimuli and don't choose anything or feel anything as we do. The absence of a nervous system makes it impossible for plants in general to like or dislike anything. Trees really are connected with one another, but not directly, they are connected by fungi and exchange nutrients with one another through the fungi with help from microorganisms. Plants and fungi are amazing but by no means sentient.

    • @justicebringer9530
      @justicebringer9530 2 года назад +1

      @@v3gan4life Plant can dislike things for example if the plant hate the soil, it will wilt or so. Plants can cry also. Science proved that. If you still think that animal is sentient while plant isn't, compare it with someone that hurt a normal man and hurt a disabled man. Both are cruel ofc, but which one is cruelest?
