I wish SIlverstone hadn't fallen asleep at the wheel. They had some interesting case back in the day. I even had a ft03 mini at one point., nice solid anodized aluminum panels.
Now they have shoved an EPYC and an RTX 3090 into it.
Please do more budget itx builds. Maybe one with one of the new geek cases. I believe they have an aluminum one now as well

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the less expensive build. Honestly after looking at all the 150 and above itx cases, this is the one I chose. Thanks again for visiting the lower end case.
As also a sg 13 owner I recommend you to buy an aio for this case the stock amd fan fits here but the thermal aren't good especially with atx power supply I will personally upgrade it soon
Try hooking a thin 92mm fan with zipties to the side opposite to GPU, in the back, and set it to exhaust. Exhausting hot air is SG13's weakness and people who tried this say it helped.
It's largely about access to fresh air. Wise man once said, "the closer your CPU cooler fan is to a ventilated side, the easier it will breathe." This by the way is the biggest advantage of liquid cooling. With the PSU living right above the CPU block like that, the only thing it gets to breathe is fire. Before I knew better, I had a case like this, and dared to choke my CPU.... by using a Noctua L9i. >.

Got my 3800x running 50c under load by adding more intake from the top (92mm) Tried a H80i v2 and it was no where near as good as my current set up. SG05 instead of SG13
@@ryans3199 In the SG13 if you're gaming your GPU/CPU will build up more heat than what can escape, increasing temps. 92mm side fan makes a huge difference, I recommend the NF-A9.
Please do more budget builds. I feel like more people would get into SFF computing if they could see it doesn’t have to consist of expensive boutique cases and high end parts.

I've owned 3 Silverstone itx cases in the past and I was impressed with the layout and affordability of each of them. I miss my SG07 a lot.
Optimum is legit the king of SFF PCs it's crazy. I always thought smaller meant way more heat but, I guess the new technology cam handle small spaces way better than i thought.

Just recently put together myself a SG13 build so funny to see this so soon afterwards! I got a Ryzen 3600, SF600 PSU, LPX 3200MHz RAM, Noctua NH-L12S Cooler, Gigabyte B450 WiFi and a Ventus OC XS RTX 2060. Got several of these parts for a real good price so it ended up costing me around $1100AUD. I'm using it as a couch PC and really loving the performance. I was really torn on getting a 1660 or a 2060 but I figured the extra performance from the 2060 would future proof it better.
Love the idea of doing more budget builds on this channel. Give builds people can actually afford some sexy B-roll action!
Finally, a SG13 build! I love this case. Very cheap, very small, portable, pretty good hardware compatibility for the size, thermals are ok (not stellar, though) and it's very mod-friendly. One of the best ITX cases on the market, IMO.
BTW, it can fit longer GPUs than listed 269mm - people were able to fit 280mm Gigabyte cards - as long as you have a 120mm fan on front panel. With 140mm or an AIO, that might not be possible. It also fits taller cards than listed, like Powercolor 5700XT Red Dragon which fits tightly. And lastly, if you have an SFX/SFX-L power supply, you can use taller air coolers than listed, like the Noctua L12s or Scythe Big Shuriken 3...the air cooler clearance on the spec sheet is when you use an ATX PSU (which SG13 also supports)
Very useful guide! Just a question, I read somewhere that some people are side mounting an exhaust fan beside the CPU. Any info on the spec/clearance for that one? I am planning to do a similar build but only using thr stock cooler of R5 3600 with an ATX PSU. I am worrying about the thermals :/

i just used sticky tape and an 92mm fan and taped it to the side of the case opposite the gpu.
you might be able to use screws or something depending on the size
I have an AIO, and I could fit an EVGA 1070 SC (2slot /2 fan 266mm long card). I just put some cardboard between the metal AIO and the GPU pcb and it's been fine.
@@kennethkim1221 I don't think the stock cooler would have proper airflow with an atx psu. I know some people used the Noctua NH-L9 / L9a with an sfx psu and were fine (you can find pictures of the builds online)
@@kennethkim1221 NF-A9 fits if you have an SFX PSU. Also large video cards can fit, you can even cut the top of the frame so tall cards to can it. I wouldnt go any longer than 280mm.
For this case I really only see two options:
(1) SFX supply as exhaust (hopefully it turns on and exhausts air when load increases) and 120mm fan in front, stock amd cooler
(2) aio and atx psu to provide airflow to the whole case.
option (1) is marginally more expensive but easily to manage, plus no crappy aio to screw up your new system
I did that build over a year ago with the Ryzen 5 3600, 1660 Super and a SilverStone SST-NJ450-SXL fan-less PSU. Great little and quiet setup for gaming and work.
Finally a budget ITX build!
I can understand why you generally focus on expensive builds for tiny ITX (ITX is usually more expensive, so if you can afford to make tiny ITX you can afford a high end PC), but larger ITX builds are deinitely "budget-able" and I'm glad you focus on them.
I have myself an SG05 with an ITX PSU and an 120mm AIO. Stuffed two 3.5in HDDs and two 2.5in drives. Also have two 70mm fans exhausting air on the right opposite the GPU side and another on top of the GPU near the back.
The two 2.5in HDDs fit in there where one is sitting on top of the AIO radiator and another sandwiched between the GPU and the PSU. The two 2.5in drives are in the right front side beside the AIO rad and below the 3.5in drive. SFX PSU fan facing up for fresh air. The two 70mm fans have switches in the front with the AIO fan throttle where the DVD drive hole would be.
The most jam-packed case! Maximized storage, maximum airflow, optionally quiet with switches, over clocked performance.
Painted it powder pink for good measure. Nicely matches my pink ps3 controller.
Got a similar System except I used the Ryzen 5 1600af. Budget was tight, because I bought a Dan A4 and a 240hz 1080p Monitor. Plan is to stick to the System and upgrade the 1660super to a 3070-3080 as soon as they pop up. Hope the 1600 af won’t be limiting. If yes it will be flipped too. I am total satisfied with the performance. Hitting 144+ in Apex on low-mid settings. 1600 af running at 3.6ghz with stock voltage. Absolute bang for your buck pro tip!
By the way, if you use a reference-sized GPU, this case literally costs the same amount as a large case with the exception of a more expensive motherboard.

MSI B450I ($130) or Asrock B450-I ($120). Asrock has more I/O and better wifi, but MSI has better vrms
A good budget fan is the arctic F12 PWM. Basically a noctua fan for half the cost.
ATX PSUs also fit inside this case, so it is easy to transport build.
Holy crap, I built almost this exact build about a year ago, down to the specific gpu model and ram. Slightly different motherboard, psu, and storage, and no liquid cooler but otherwise identical.
Mod Suggestion: Consider a completely internal (much smaller) Plex power supply - hanging down from the top front of the case (on the provided 2.5" SSD bracket). This would free up ample room for a large/efficient air cooler for a larger CPU (if desired). It would also free up the back of the case for a 140 mm exhaust fan (if needed at all). Air flow would be an unimpeded straight line coming in the front of the case - thru the CPU cooler and out the back. Powerful, cool and quiet air cooling in a compact case. Think about the possibilities. Only minor modding required.
This case was my first real sffpc. I loved it and would still recommend it to anyone who wants a small system but doesn't want to spend 200 plus dollars on a case. The case can actually fit a full atx psu, though not recommend, an aio and gpu under 11in/279mm. Great seeing you build in this case.

I thought I was the only one who appreciated this case. I built a 4K gaming rig with this case. Ryzen 7 2700x with the Corsair H100i 120mm aio. Thermals never seen anything more than 70c. Have an EVGA GTX 1080 in it. The thing rocks!
I took this idea and went overboard. Z490 I Unify, Corsair H80i v2 AIO, Corsair SF750, 10600K and 32GB of Corsair Vengeance LPK with a 5700XT that I never want in my gaming rig ever again. My hope that all this will work as a Hackintosh, part of the reason for the AIO choice as there is even some management tooling options.
Sadly, as I just finished, the cabling and the AIO tubing creates a tons of tension. Can't recommend it, but I think it will serve me well.
Thanks for sharing the idea. My older SGs always worked for years. Maybe I will consider the NR200P or another a slightly larger case later.

I built a very similar SFF pc this Christmas. Instead I went with the node 202, a 1tb intel ssd, a thermalright low profile copper cooler, and I snagged a good gtx 1070 for just over $200. I can play most games I have at ultra settings with a few overkill settings turned down. Even the witcher 3 holds 60fps most of the time with nearly maxed settings. Truly a great price point for 1080p gaming. The cinematic stuff is taxing but can handle 60fps which is fine enough and the fast-paced shooters can run well above 100fps. I run BF4 at ultra and usually sit in the 180s.

I got this one for about 5 years!) Currently using this case with r9 3900X and kraken x41, unfortunateley under load(corona render) it holds only 4Ghz,
Under usual usage it rises to 4.4 Ghz
Great video. I love seeing my SG13 getting some love. At half of your budget (I was shooting for 350/450) I dropped in a Ryzen 5 2400, 16GB Ram, RX570 4GB, 120GB SSD, 400GB Samsung SSD (refurbished), Corsair 120mm AIO, and a standard size Seasonic PSU I had lying around. It was cool that it will take a standard size PSU but I wouldn't recommend it. Space is tight. So later I swapped it out for a smaller DSP 450w unit that does a great job.
I still get compliments on it when I travel with it. TSA though.. are not fans as I get checked every single time. lol

Honestly, for those on a budget I'd totally recommend it. 60fps+ 1080p Gears 4 & 5. This setup does struggle with Doom Eternal though getting around 47fps 1080p High. I feel I could get more out of it if I took the time to tweak the settings.
Nier Automata, Project Cars, Devil May Cry 5 plays awesome 60fps easy. It's a good budget setup. Also keep in mind I'm playing on a 50in LG 4k HDTV. So you'll get better results on an actual monitor than a tv.
Reminds me of the budget sg13 build I did last year too. Bought a 1080TI since I didn’t need a 2080TI for the casual purpose I needed it for, then decided to go for the 8700k instead of a 9900k to save some money.
Then went for a AIO to save time and money over custom loop too. It was the perfect build as a HTPC which I connected to my living rooms TV. Good for light gaming, and I could also stream from my main rig if I needed to.
The sg13 is really good for light gaming use like that.
More budget small form factor content please! I went NZXT H200 last year and its been my favourite case to date, especially when I only had to downsize my motherboard from my previous ATX machine. Great video as always.

My first ITX build. Great case if a little bit boring. Can't beat the compatibility.
The case has been around for soooo long now but boy does the SG13 work so well as a pure ITX gaming build.
SG05 was introduced in 2009 and is an even better choice at 35€ for the lite (without a PSU). It is made for SFX-PSUs so no adapter needed. If you want a adapter I think the SF450 Platinum ships with one... might make sense depending on the price over the Gold. The SG05/06 where the first compact ITX-gaming cases as far as I can remember way ahead of the time.
Budget SFF builds are something the world needs to see more of!

SG13 can fit a Zotac 4070 Twin with minimum changes and this case also supports and additional fan on the opposite side of the gpu.
The SF450 does ship with an ATX to SFX Bracket!

I've built a SG13 as well with a H60 cooler and it runs with some old hardware - 6700K. Built as a Hackintosh and runs super quiet and the latest version of Catalina. Optimum Tech - love your videos and you give great inspiration to these type of builds (wish I had more money, hehe). Cheers!
I love your channel, everybody else I’m subscribed to builds outlandish builds at almost double this price. I might’ve been converted to the smaller itx form factor now.
Great to see that SG13 is still used. I build my rig on it 4 year s ago, and this year had replace card to RX 580 because old R9 390 seized to work. And for 1080p it is great configuration for me. I had solid front so I upgraded it for some new snow flake like ventilation cutouts and mesh and in my opinion it looks better than those mesh front.

This is the same case I used. Modified the hell out of it though. Vented the top and put a fan in so it also blows heat out the top. It's absolutely stuffed in there to the max, yet runs probably cooler than any PC I've ever had.

Fractal Core 500, under $60 Dollars is a competitor for mITX
Just recently did a build with a with the same Asus Mobo a 2700X, 1660 Super Gigabyte 3 fan, m2, Blu-Ray and 32GB of Ram.
I completely agree that FD Core 500 is a worthy competitor and in my opinion represents a better option than the SG13 because of its significantly increased versatility for the addition of just 7 litres total volume - which if both cases are put side by side is less discerning than would be expected. Using currently Temjin 08E (mATX with graphics card up, but PC is build as almost zero noise generating) and Sugo SG05 (basically the same case as in video, but SFX power supply only, with Slim Optical drive bay and another front panel). Temjin is already second one I use, after years... I really forgot that case. But soon after start of completation of my actual PC, I release, that this must be a deja-vu. Not, I suddenly choose second time the same case. Kids use now older Sugo build in childrens room. I love Silverstone cases. Regarding Silverstonetek Sugo line, smallest package for still ordinary and affordable components with no cooling issues. ITX(DTX)+SFX+2 slot graphics = best bang for money in 10L segment.

Tip: the newer Platinum-rated version of the Corsair SF450 includes an ATX mounting bracket. If there isn't much price difference between the two in your area, going for the platinum version saves some hassle.

I'll also throw my weight behind Fractal's Core 500, and as a good follow up video to weigh the pros and cons of that form factor. I built in it 4 years ago and I still think it's the best case for me. For going a bit larger, I think it's the most space efficient design that supports full-sized graphics (full length, 2.2-splot), full sized air cooling CPU (including a tight fit for Noctua NH-D150), and with a thermal design that actually allows each of those components to operate at very low noise levels. In fact, you can run a 140mm intake on the top, in front of a scythe fuma 2, and a 140mm exhaust behind it (and the GPU abuts a fully perforated panel). I'm fairly disappointed not to see more cases hitting this sweet spot form factor, given that it fits under my TV next to my amp, and stays whisper quiet at full load and inaudible at idle (unlike an AIO)

This case primarily accepts ATX PSUs though, so if you have one you won't need a bracket. Your cooler height will be limited, but that doesn't matter if you water cool or if you have a smaller cooler (
I appreciate this video a lot, because this is something mortals like us could build one day too, and it shows that itx only has to cost ~150$ more than normal atx. Maybe do a 1500$ build next time.

Great vid! I use the same case air cooled though but will be probably going liquid in the future because it gets a little toasty in there at times. The case is awesome to work with and you fit some really nice things in there (longer graphics cards too) if you have the budget.
I love Silverstone’s stuff. The RL06 was very nice, though a little difficult to do cabling and I ended up stuffing cables where the 3.5” drives should have gone. Otherwise, perfect for me. Added two 140mm Noctua fans (still somewhat kicking myself for not going with 3 120s given how well the 120’s perform but it still works fine) to the front, and it’s been very quiet. Messed with fan curves and under normal usage, even my 3950X + VII remains fairly quiet, only occasionally have fan spike in noise so I may need to adjust a few things yet. That said, I’d love to get an SG13 and put my 3700X in it.
FYI the SF450 Platinum is only $5 more on Newegg and comes with an ATX-to-SFX bracket, also higher efficiency and sleeved cables. Definitely worth it IMO.
This case is the original Mini Cooper, everything else just says 'Mini' but is really quite large, especially in comparison 😅😝

Great in depth presentation! I also love my SG13-build. imho AIO is the way to go, but I DO REGRET integrating an 140mm radiator instead of 120mm. This way only VERY SHORT ITX graphic cards will fit in the case. Thinking about replacing it with a 120mm AIO. But besides that: beautifully tiny tiny case! Love it.

I built one of these about a year ago, managed to fit corsair's 140mm rad (in a push-pull) and a 2070 it's a portable powerhouse
FYI 1: This case accepts 140mm RAD, but you definitely want to put in a 120mm rad/fan if you wish to use the 3.5" bay.
FYI 2: Use a ≤140mm MODULAR PSU because they are far easier to work with.
FYI 3: If you have an SFX PSU, buy the SG-05 because it fits SFX, comes with a fan included, and supports larger coolers while being a little smaller.
FYI 4: "High profile" RAM as well as the AMD stealth cooler will fit.
FYI 5: You can get dust filters for the SG13 on the sides if you wish as well.
Overall, if you have a short-ish graphics card as well as a decently small stock cooler, then this build costs almost the same amount as larger ATX cases (I noticed a $20 difference and that was all due to the motherboard being more expensive, MSI B450I vs. MSI B450-A PRO).
If you have temp issues, go for a tiny noctua fan as Optimum recommended in an earlier video, and you're fine.

My first cube/ITX case was the V1. Loved it! Then Suppressor F1 came out with a nice clean front panel. I since "upgraded" to other cases including Ncase M1, but seeing builds in cheaper than "boutique price" cases is refreshing.
I own one of these. My absolute fav about it is the 200mm front fan. The stock fan is rather noisy, recently swapped it out for a Noctua 200mm now it's a breeze and I don't even need rear fans. It's on the bulky side of cases. With bubblegum format drives and powerful APUs being available to the public these days my next rig would be super extra small and powerful at the same time. But if you want a GPU and two hard drives man the v1 is still a very good option with great potential for air flow (depends on you).
@@marianarlt also the v1 has cable management somewhat in the form of separated psu chamber (+mobo is horizontal so)
Yea natively fitting full size ATX PSUs is another big plus. I got a modular PSU making for less clutter. Cable management can still be tricky though depending on the motherboard. If you don't mind the size the v1 is a great case for a great price.

You can add another fan on the radiator to create push-pull. I have a similar set-up. It may take arranging the power cables more but worth it.
SG13 - Still the best all-round truly small ITX case at an afforable price.

I've been running a SG13B for the past 4ish years. It's quite the versatile case for it's size. Grabbed it for ~$50 - I don't know why it was so cheap at the time.

There's another older case I'd love to see you review, the HAF XB EVO by Cooler Master. It's one of the most versatile cases of its type on the market, and perfect for a gaming and editing rig.
Dustin I doubt he’ll look at it since he’s more about space saving and the HAF XB is still somewhat large. I still want one though, for the reason you listed. It’s got convenient carry handles for moving it as a LAN machine but doesn’t compromise too hard on space so that you can have a really strong machine. Plus, I like having horizontal motherboard layouts instead of vertical. Hate fighting gravity, haha.

still rockin my SG10 as my current pc. Love the case and Silverstone has always done well in the sff market.

Just need a little bit of modding. system runs cool i think idle on 40 load at 55/60

Always loved the "Shuttle XPC" design ... wish the top panel was fully perforated to -maybe- mod this to somehow fit a 92mm AIO with the NZXT Kraken G12 GPU cooler, or even a 120mm. Maybe it doesn't make sense, but I'm all about reducing the noise.
I think the old Corsair 250D is also a good alternative für a budget build. Today you can build a really solid little stream/workstation for not so much money ... 2700x for around 150 Euro plus a gtx 1660Super and your in 👍🏻
Looks like a slimmed down Corsair Obsidian 250D, which was one of my most favorite Mini-ITX cases to work in.
One could step up to the Corsair SF450 in Platinum, comes with the ATX mounting bracket and sleeved cables. I just got mine in and I’m very impressed. Thank you for this video. I am waiting on that exact board to come in. I am going with the RX570 4gb itx GPU as it’s only 170MM in length. I am building in the Motif Monument and trying to configure a custom loop for it.
