To everyone who doesn’t listen to metal, if it has screaming, it’s screamo. They start calling death metal screamo, too. It’s funny because screamo is punk, not metal. lol
@@nathan.w05 Not debatable at all. Screamo is part of emo, which falls under punk, not metal. A band can be metal and screamo at the same time, though, like Underoath. It was hilarious when he started screaming, because both of you had the same look on your face, but it was clear that you were into it because your head was bobbing to the beat, but your sister was like, "what the hell is this?"
I have to say, the fact that Spencer can write all these songs dedicated to each horro movie takes WAY more talent then a lot of pop songs out there that are just anout breaking up or whatever. He made full dedications to well loved classics and did them so phenomenally. I unsdettand not everyone enjoys this style, but it’s a style that still deserves respect.
This was my favourite song from the entire 2018 year. The entire story "The Silver Scream" is hella interesting. You should definitely start from part 1 " The American Nighmare". Btw I get your sister. I hope people don't hate on her. Just tell her that contrary to her beliefs, metal is HUGE.
To us Finns it's more than huge. There's more than 50 metal bands for every 100K people, and there's approximately 5,5 million people in Finland. So there's more metal bands per capita than anywhere else in the known universe. \,,/
@@HeavymetalHillbilly Well damn that's a lot of bands!!! I'm Swedish but personally don't listen to any Swedish bands. I'm just born there though so I guess that's okay.

aa miw1999 yeah I really do she’s really amazing she’s into country and hip hop and her first rock concert was pretty HEAVY but she stuck it out with me 🤘
I learned that with metal lyrics, if it's for you you'll catch the lyrics and if not just rock out and eventually you'll follow the scream patterns and then depict the lyrics lol💪🏽💪🏽
You should explain to her that the screaming is just another element of the music, just like singing is. Treat the voice like an instrument and it opens up your mind to the different screams there are. There’s so much versatility in just this one song I’m pretty sure she just shut off right after hearing the first one. For someone to make those noises with their voice is insane. It’s just like when a good singer hits a nice vocal run.
Honestly. Listening to a track and reading the lyrics at the same time is very immersive. You understand each line much better. And the more you listen to bands with unclean vocals. The easier you understand.
The whole record “the silver scream” is a masterpiece! This album shows the creativity and hard work dedicated to all those awesome horror movies. I love it so much.
lucky her you didn't show her Cannibal Corpse,Cradle of Filth,Fleshgod Apocalypse or any black metal band😁😁perhaps you introduce her to Babymetal next time?🤘🤘
You get an ear for it. It takes time. When I first started listening to it I couldn’t understand anything but now I can tell you what deathcore is screaming about 😂
The last album “Every Trick in the Book” is based off of famous novels. The newest album “The Silver Scream” is based off of horror films. Your sister would probably like “A Grave Mistake”. It’s based off “The Crow” and it’s very laid back comparatively
Being this closed minded is terrible. Ice Nine Kills are some of the most brilliant lyricists around today. And she's gonna miss out on the genius by not realizing that after a few times hearing it and knowing the lyrics, it makes the song have a whole new impact
I love listening to metal. I listen first with my ears then with my eyes and ears (looking at the lyrics whilst listening to the song) and it enhances the song and listening experience. I love the screaming lyrics because it adds more emotion to the track and if I don't understand the screaming I look up lyrics and delve further into the song and feel the emotion even more and vibe to the song
As someone who used to hate metal for screaming I can sort of understand people's misconception for metal. However, after trying to scream after one song, I realised how hard it is to do it properly and so I actually took some time to learn the very basic screaming technique. After that, I try to scream every song i hear because not only it is super fun to do so, it is also challenging. I really hope people can appreciate all the hard work behind screaming.
Maybe next time bring someone on with more of an open mind? She seemed from the beginning of the video very close minded to "Screamo". Or bring her back on and do Ice Nine Kills cover of Animal. Funny music video, and she would actually be able to understand the song since she has probably heard the Original from Maroon 5.
I mean, if you listen to the song a couple times it's pretty easy to make out what he's saying during his screams but that's if you even bother to actually LISTEN rather than just hearing it.
Keep your sister in your videos going forward it will be fascinating to see the progress of her perception towards this kind of music. Concidering she's so pure to it at this point She's the perfect niche for this experiment and for our entertainment 😎
When you listen to metal on a regular basis you get an ear for what they say so even when they have a new song you pick up on what they're saying without lyrics its like anything else it takes time to gain the control of it.
As soon as the song started she already made up her mind she was gonna hate and gave herself excuses to hate it. Give a song a chance and don't take it so seriously.
Tell her that most of us do hear the lyrics and understand the emotion behind the rage and why it is sung this way. It is just her. You have to actually listen and then judge. Like really listen.
Thats how I felt the first time I listened to metal, but I warmed up to it. The whole idea of the bands latest record is horror movies. This record isnt patricularly deep or meaningful, its just a fun listen and a tribute to horror movies. However the point of metal is to find meaning in the emotions and to find a release in the energy and musicianship, and I think most people issue is theyre very vocalcentric because pop has become so watered down, and the only truely expanded instrument in most radio music is the voice. To truly understand metal you must divorce yourself from vocals. I would say that the feel is the most important. However on top of that it is truly an acquired taste, I can hear the lyrics alot of the time without reading at this point with metalcore bands like this because ive been listening to it for alot of the time. Everyones usual initial complaint is “But its the screaming, i dont get it”, but at some point your ears do switch, it starts to become more than random noise, usually you will find a band that just does it, something about the emotions they portray, or their style of screaming combined with amazing musicianship will make you be like, “oh, thats actually pretty sick” and at that point it becoms an addiction, you start to realise that the voice isnt a different beast than the rest of the music, but that its just another instrument, and that its the emotion of the piece as whole rather than the words that are at the forefront. It wouldnt surprise me if, that if you truly tried, your “babys first metal band” would be Five Finger Death Punch, leading into Pantera and pushing onto Lamb of God and you getting really into groove metal and southern alt-metal type projects. Now thats just an assumption based on nationality and your accent, but the stuff you get into tends to be based around your culture rather than personality. Metal, along with jazz, classical music, harder electronic genres and funk, as well as things in that ballpark, are some of the only contemporary genres right now that i feel can truly give people an appreciation for music as a composition, and as the sum of all parts involved as a whole, rather than just as the singer with backup. There is a reason why fans of these genres often get so into it, and thats because they truly gain a passion for it, and because there is passion behind it, not just in those playing it, but also in listening to it. For most people, a comversation about music is a subject used to pass the time, or to keep a casual conversation going when youve run out of things to say, but for metalheads and others that listen to these types of genres these are important and passionate subjects. So, in reality, its completely fine that you dont enjoy this music, but what I think is important is that you give a chance, listen to some softer stuff to start with, learn to divorce yourself from the vocals and get into the feel, learn to appreciate the music as a sum of all of its parts. If you still dont like it, thats fair, but who knows, maybe in a few years time youll be jamming infant annihilator and jumping into Thy Arts moshpit.
Very well said 100% agree! I couldn't understand Growls and didn't like it that much but once I found Songs that I liked with growl parts I wormed up to it and for me Amon Amarth did the trick! Suddenly it clicked and without reading the lyrics I understood what he was saying and I understood that growls are like a seperate Instrument. Try to look at it from that angle and keep an open mind and maybe you'll ease into it if not, cool.
I am a german and I don't understand a lot of the lyrics from songs, even if i look them up. But I understand the music even without the text, but with the art and the sound they create with the instruments and the voice. It just sounds good ^^
Most of the music that I listen to I never understand the lyrics until I go see them because english is not my first language and I listen mostly to english music so I don't really mind to not understand all the lyrics. In fact I find it cool to search the lyrics because it makes the songs like they are not just music but also a message and art. To understand growling you have to listen and read the lyrics a the same time and with time your hears are becoming more and more used to it so it becomes easier to understand it. I started to listen to metal during the summer and for me it is still hard to understand growling except maybe for the growling from Tatiana (Jinjer) because I listen a lot of Jinjer. You should tell her to react to Jinjer with you (start with pisces with her if she wants to ) and you should absolutely show her Nightwish.
Dying on the hill of “I can’t understand the lyrics” is really interesting to me because it’s not difficult at all to look up the lyrics and read them alongside. Even then, just because one person can’t listen through the screaming doesn’t no one else can. But what’s really annoying is her trying to make fake narratives about Metal having a small audience which is factually incorrect. Trying to lie about something you admitted that you don’t understand is really weird to me. Opinions are one thing, lies and fake narratives are another.
The whole point of The Silver Scream is a story told by the lead singer (Spencer Charnas) being haunted by visions and all the songs are made as tributes to classic horror and dark gothic movies. The Silver Scream: 1: American Nightmare (A Nightmare on Elm Street) 2: Thank God, It's Friday (Friday the 13th) 3: Stabbing in the Dark (Halloween) 4: Savages (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) 5: The Jig Is Up (SAW) 6: A Grave Mistake (The Crow) 7: Rocking the Boat (Jaws) 8: Enjoy Your Slaw (The Shining) 9: Freak Flag (The Devil's Rejects) 10: The World In My Hands (Edward Scissorhands) 11: Merry Axe-Mas (Silent Night, Deadly Night) 12: Love Bites (An American Werewolf in London) 13: IT Is the End (IT) 14: Your Number's Up (Scream) 15: Thriller (Michael Jackson cover) Metal music has been BIG in the music industry FOREVER and just because it's not mostly focused on today's top radio stations doesn't change the fact it is big and millions upon millions of people love it and enjoy it more than today's trashy music like rap and country
03:22 "An 8 minute long song?? How can a song be that long?????" I mean... What did she expect? A song which is barely 3 minutes long because the writers lacked ideas, as it seems to be the case with this generic pop s*** all the way through?? You should show her Nightwish- The Greatest Show on Earth (24 minutes). Although she might dig this one more because less "screamo"
The emotion of the music is about a murder and a traumatic event....can you really imagine that story being told in a slow soft acoustic style??? If so than you don't care about lyrical content and shouldn't use the "i cant understand what they are saying" argument, Emotion and style also comes with the lyrics...no one screams about how much they love there kid, and that they are happy with a good life...My example comes from Disturbed...inside the fire is about a person committing suicide(screaming is an outlet of anger and sadness), but look at the evolution album(lots of slow touching styles)...Lyrics determine the style and emotion of a song...screaming is just intense lyrics...
the voice is just another instrument. I've got no problem with understanding the lyrics when they scream honestly. might take a listen or 2 and I may miss a word or 2 but I do understand them.
My best friend is a tailor swift fan and even she says Tailor swift fans are the worst when it comes to other music. She said (her included) are like baby puppies that don’t like loud noises.

It's just sad knowing that people like her won't change their mind because they've decided to be ignorant about it instead of just enjoying the music, it's not that hard to look up the lyrics and appreciate what's being said
My whole family is like that. I was the only one in my family who likes it growing up
Same. My brother and dad are the only ones that appreciate metal.
She may need to be a little more open to review music. As someone who is accepting to all genres, her views come off as closed minded and rude. Also, NOT screamo. Let her know that. Its metal/metalcore. A lot of people who listen to metal adapt and can understand the screaming.
Hard pass on her.
To everyone who doesn’t listen to metal, if it has screaming, it’s screamo. They start calling death metal screamo, too. It’s funny because screamo is punk, not metal. lol
@@spitz5183 Debatable. Listen to I prevail, they're definitely metal and they're screamo.
@@nathan.w05 Not debatable at all. Screamo is part of emo, which falls under punk, not metal. A band can be metal and screamo at the same time, though, like Underoath. I listen to a little bit of I Prevail. I wouldn’t consider I Prevail screamo, however. They’re more post-hardcore/metalcore than anything.
Please introduce your sister to jinjer😁😁🤘🤘
yes!!
Agreed
I agree! Such a good band.
@@Soulcrusher820 yeah 😁😁🤘🤘
Or Dead by April. They combine metalcore with pop and electronic. The singing is extremely catchy and better than most pop these days. That would be a great starting for anyone trying to get into metal.
When she says "come on a little kid" someone should have her watch "children of the corn" lol
"Oh you didn't understand it? Let's listen to it again"
You will understand the screaming and like it, dammit! How I got into metal, lmao.
Him: Bringing good arguments and trying to explain to her why he and other people like it etc.
She: I cAn'T hEaR tHe LyRiCs AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGH
Looks like Karen didn't like the metal. She needs a manager asap.
"it's 8 minutes long? How can a song be that long?" oh my sweet sun child...
Lyrics
In calculated silence
Captivated by the violence of the play
Fifteen years ago today
Oh, an evil evolution
Will bring a feeble institution to it's knees
Oh, doctor can't you see?
That when the hands of fate
Fall on the midnight hour
Behind this mask of hate
I don the devil's power
These are the devil's eyes
The devil's eyes
Go!
A former portrait of perfection
Painted without plight
Now Haddonfield's my battlefield
Your kids won't make it home tonight
With a madness void of reason
I kill with every strike
I'll haunt you day after day
Knife after knife
Day after day
Knife after knife
Taking life after life
When the hands of fate
Fall on the midnight hour
Behind this mask of hate
I don the devil's power
If there's life in the shadows
Let the knife leave its mark
When the certainty of safety feels like stabbing
Stabbing in the dark
You'll learn a heartless human harvest
Feeds this festival of flesh
Stalking at the top
Scream of the crop
A silent cut above the rest
Where blood's thicker than water
I've carved up quite a scene
With your worst fears carved on this white veneer
I'll change the face of Halloween
You can't kill the boogeyman
When the hands of fate
Fall on the midnight hour
Behind this mask of hate
I don the devil's power
If there's life in the shadows
Let the knife leave its mark
When the certainty of safety feels like stabbing
Stabbing in the dark
All units respond
Multiple fatalities reported on Orange Grove Ave.
Suspect has been identified as one Michael Myers
He is armed and extremely dangerous
Shoot to kill, I repeat, shoot to kill over
I am a shadow where there once was light
Strangling all signs of life
It's either you or some kid down the street
The choice is yours
Trick or fuckin' treat!
Michael!
Stop it!
Ahhhhhh!
When the hands of fate
Fall on the midnight hour
Behind this mask of hate
I don the devil's power
If there's life in the shadows
Let the knife leave its mark
When the certainty of safety feels like stabbing
Stabbing in the dark
It was hilarious when he started screaming, because both of you had the same look on your face, but it was clear that you were into it because your head was bobbing to the beat, but your sister was like, "what the hell is this?"
I have to say, the fact that Spencer can write all these songs dedicated to each horro movie takes WAY more talent then a lot of pop songs out there that are just anout breaking up or whatever.
He made full dedications to well loved classics and did them so phenomenally.
I unsdettand not everyone enjoys this style, but it’s a style that still deserves respect.
Exactly
when you did the face, i knew, i felt it. Having been a INK fan for a very long time, the snarl during the breakdown was appreciated
I talked my girlfriend into going with me to see them 😂 she’s not into metal at ALL she likes when he sings too but she did say and I quote “I may not be able to understand him screaming but it’s okay because he’s a beautiful man” 😂
@@Austin_Kayla22 you have a good girlfriend that's for sure. Spencer's singing is really nice and his screaming really brutal.
aa miw1999 yeah I really do she’s really amazing she’s into country and hip hop and her first rock concert was pretty HEAVY but she stuck it out with me 🤘
I learned that with metal lyrics, if it's for you you'll catch the lyrics and if not just rock out and eventually you'll follow the scream patterns and then depict the lyrics lol💪🏽💪🏽
“Oh come on! A little kid??” Bro have you never seen Halloween 😂
She is literally coming up with weird reasons to hate a song. “What is the point of reading lyrics if you can’t understand them?” Yea right
i cant understand half of the lyrics in pop songs, yet i can perfectly understand metal
"oh really a little kid" bwhahaha i can tell she's never actually watched Halloween before
Imagine not enjoying something just because you can’t understand it 😳
The whole record “the silver scream” is a masterpiece! This album shows the creativity and hard work dedicated to all those awesome horror movies. I love it so much.
Listening to screams is just like understanding an accent. Over time it’s a lot easier to understand them.
The same "I can't understand them argument" can be made about Ariana Grande
😂😂
lucky her you didn't show her Cannibal Corpse,Cradle of Filth,Fleshgod Apocalypse or any black metal band😁😁perhaps you introduce her to Babymetal next time?🤘🤘
Cause black metal is dog shit
@@GodlyGaming101 it's like coffee tastes, everybody has a favorite one.
Or Infant Annihilator. If this is her reaction to a metalcore band, just imagine what her reaction to a deathcore band would be. Lol
Behemoth or Motionless in white
Or sodom, marduk, bathory
Your sister must be SO fun at parties
"Oh come on! A little kid?!" Okay so you've never seen Halloween, we get it. Lol.
You get an ear for it. It takes time. When I first started listening to it I couldn’t understand anything but now I can tell you what deathcore is screaming about 😂
Same 😂
she thinks this is hard to understand try introducing her to slaughter to prevail - demolisher
also yeah reading the lyrics can have a big impact because when you do dig deeper into lyrical content its much more significant
You sure this was your sister? Seems more like a distraught mom lol
She says it's all one tone of screaming, but Spencer has a large range of screaming
I LOVE how he loves it and she hates it! The duplicity between them is just perfect!
Psssshh, she thinks 8 minutes is long?
Let's hope he doesn't show her Opeth
@@Red-Beard-OTB or dream theater lol
I feel bad for her bf (if she has one)
It's so easy to understand what they're screaming lol. Open your ears and actually listen to it again.
I really hope people can appreciate all the hard work behind screaming.
i respect your immense patience with her I would lose my shit
Maybe next time bring someone on with more of an open mind? She seemed from the beginning of the video very close minded to "Screamo". Or bring her back on and do Ice Nine Kills cover of Animal. Funny music video, and she would actually be able to understand the song since she has probably heard the Original from Maroon 5.
I’ve had this same conversation so many times. I’ve given up trying to explain but I’m with you my dude.
Shes so upset about the kid but she doesnt know about the movie. Dont judge dude
I mean, if you listen to the song a couple times it's pretty easy to make out what he's saying during his screams but that's if you even bother to actually LISTEN rather than just hearing it.
Keep your sister in your videos going forward it will be fascinating to see the progress of her perception towards this kind of music. Concidering she's so pure to it at this point She's the perfect niche for this experiment and for our entertainment 😎
him: just vibing
her: what in the actual hell
"THE CHOICE IS YOURS! TRICK OR F#CKING TREAT!!!!"- Stabbing in the Dark
Show her royal beggars by architects she might appreciate the soft singing with the slightly harsh vocals and the deep meaning of the song
I listened to and still listen to Disturbed, you sir have a good taste in music lol. I love Ice Nine Kills as well
INK isn't for everyone, but I can 100% understand what they are screaming. INK is my favorite though
When you listen to metal on a regular basis you get an ear for what they say so even when they have a new song you pick up on what they're saying without lyrics its like anything else it takes time to gain the control of it.
but what if i can understand "screamo" better than mumble music
As soon as the song started she already made up her mind she was gonna hate and gave herself excuses to hate it. Give a song a chance and don't take it so seriously.
Your sister is the worst. I’m still watching while typing. Stop shaking your head and rolling your eyes!
people who say its just screaming and cant understand the words just have virgin ears .
This song is a fkin masterpiece, she crazy.
Pretty sure she’s reported the memes I’ve shared on Facebook
Listen to it long enough you’ll understand it like it’s a second language
show me a classical musician that understands every word in opera
I can already tell she is most likely the least fun person in your family
u should react with her to Montionless in white
I am a german and I don't understand a lot of the lyrics from songs, even if i look them up. But I understand the music even without the text, but with the art and the sound they create with the instruments and the voice. It just sounds good ^^
Her face is quite punchable during the whole song.
Too true 😂😂
🤘🖤
Even in hip hop alot of you have to look up lyrics to know exactly what they say. But once you know what they’re saying it’s beautiful
For a while, before my ears took to metal vocals, I looked up the lyrics because I love the pure aggression and power that metal has
Why did I for a moment think that at one part, Spencer was sitting with the two! 😂🤦🏻♀️
Ice nine kills did acoustic versions of some of their songs, she might like those better
I feel bad for you man, explaining the music to the close minded is never easy. Thanks for the reaction!
I love looking back and forth between the left and right of the screen because its completely polarized
"It was disturbing" of course its disturbing, they're using their music videos to build a horror movie. Horror movies are supposed to be disturbing.
Show her Jinjer !!!!!
Also, you two should react to ice nine kills - A grave mistake. I think that will be a little easier on her.
The whole point of The Silver Scream is a story told by the lead singer (Spencer Charnas) being haunted by visions and all the songs are made as tributes to classic horror and dark gothic movies.
The Silver Scream:
1: American Nightmare (A Nightmare on Elm Street)
2: Thank God, It's Friday (Friday the 13th)
3: Stabbing in the Dark (Halloween)
4: Savages (Texas Chainsaw Massacre)
5: The Jig Is Up (SAW)
6: A Grave Mistake (The Crow)
7: Rocking the Boat (Jaws)
8: Enjoy Your Slaw (The Shining)
9: Freak Flag (The Devil's Rejects)
10: The World In My Hands (Edward Scissorhands)
11: Merry Axe-Mas (Silent Night, Deadly Night)
12: Love Bites (An American Werewolf in London)
13: IT Is the End (IT)
14: Your Number's Up (Scream)
15: Thriller (Michael Jackson cover)
Metal music has been BIG in the music industry FOREVER and just because it's not mostly focused on today's top radio stations doesn't change the fact it is big and millions upon millions of people love it and enjoy it more than today's trashy music like rap and country
03:22 "An 8 minute long song?? How can a song be that long?????"
I mean... What did she expect? A song which is barely 3 minutes long because the writers lacked ideas, as it seems to be the case with this generic pop s*** all the way through??
You should show her Nightwish- The Greatest Show on Earth (24 minutes). Although she might dig this one more because less "screamo"
I heared Ice nine kills live this year… it was one of the best Concerts that i have ever watched
he was about to dropkick her
The emotion of the music is about a murder and a traumatic event....can you really imagine that story being told in a slow soft acoustic style???
