    It definitely depends on the braking bumps and the corner itself. But this guy definitely knows what he is talking about!!! Alot of you guys that are bashing this advise are probably riding the beginners class.

    I used to ride as you described and I called it old school style. The I began listening to the new style stand up riders and my riding sucked. Went to the track today and applied this lesson and had a great day. Still two strokin it.

    On flat corners it may be faster, but with breaking bumps you need to stand, sitting would push all those bumps through your spine which isn't comfortable, or good for you. Another thing is your leg. "Only lift it high enough to where it doesn't make contact with the ground" this can also end badly, my buddy caught his foot on a rock on the inside of a rut and tore his ACL. It all depends. I'm sure as hell not going to be sitting much on a sand track. And you can't prove that this way is the best way by showing that a pro did it in the right context, because there's a lot of other times where you need to be standing.

    Standing on the pegs gets your weight lower on the bike coming into a turn, sitting at the apex or just before it and throwing your weight forward helps plant the front tire so it doesn't wash out. BTW I am not a MX racer, just a weekend warrior type that rides hard in the dirt. I have dumped bikes more often sitting through an entire turn than I have since I was shown the stand sit method. Just my two cents. Ride your own ride ....

    if you don't stand through rough sections you will get bucked off the bike. standing is key in motocross, this guy has some key points but you can't always sit on the bike. and you actually have more control of the bike by standing, you can shift your weight/body more easily

    Funny, Bubba Stewarts Ranch trains riders to ride WITHOUT their seat, so they STAND the entire time.....different strokes I guess...

    Honestly, standing or sitting , it doesn't matter .
    Every rider has a different preference . Everyone is different and
    some people prefer sitting over standing , vice versa... I prefer sitting , but my cousin likes standing , but we both do the corner the same and not one is faster than the other.
    Its all about how YOU feel on the bike.

    I’m only a beginner to racing and when u feel like standing; stand
    and when you feel like sitting; sit
    basically do what feels the best at that moment in time when your riding

    My coach taught me that if I stand up into a corner then sit while entering the corner and put my leg out, the suspension becomes compressed when I sit, so it carries me through the corner.

      same here, it also lets you sit on the edge of the seat, (because your already leaning your bike into the corner) and weight the outside peg better, giving better traction.

      Bingo. Sit while entering the corner to get weight up on the front end while weighting the peg. Puts weight on the front end for it to get traction and your foot on the peg loads the rear and keeps it from kicking out.

    for me standing up helps me to be more in control of the bike, more maneuverability, and for some reason makes me hold on much longer heading into corners. it's like a mind trick, iv'e watched riders heading from a straight into a corner and the ones that stayed sitting always let off sooner then the ones standing. but of course it does depend on the corners, sitting is good for linking corners. but standing is still my preference

    maybe sitting is a good plan on a SMOOTH MX track, but "MX" and "smooth" don't compute.... trying sitting down over a few nasty braking bumps going into a corner and see what happens.... if it is flat I do agree with you completely though!

    Aweseome video! Would really love more of this when u breaking it down step by step like you did on that video of chad and ryan, taking corners/"burms" (correct spelling?) and jumping. And one thing I've been thinking of is how do the pro's do when it rutted on the track, like the take off an the landing so you dont crash.

    There was no rut on Chad's turn point, which allowed him to stick that front wheel. The question is, what did he do with the throttle and rear brake when he made that cut? I don't know, but when I do that, the front washes out and I crash. I presume he spiked the rear brake, getting it to break loose the rear wheel. If it was easy, everybody would do it. It isn't.

    The reason that the kids camps take of the seat is to teach the kids to stand up since their natural comfort zone on a bike is sitting down. It will be a lot easier to teach them later to sit down in corners. Try and get a young kid or new rider to stand up the whole time they are riding is hard so you take off the seat so that if they sit down they will remember to stand right back up again. But I am sure that Micah hook rides his whole moto standing up!

    In the UK/ Europe we have to stand going into corners because of our balls, all our tracks are rutted and have massive braking bumps and acceleration bumps. In the USA you have vaginas so it feels nice on the seat as well I guess.

      Oliver brings up a very IMPORTANT point .... yes indeed there is solid theory and execution sitting while cornering on a MX bike as taught here.... but with the rougher tracks in Europe ... indeed ALL the fastest riders STAND/CROUCH through most corners ... not sitting flat on the seat .... i can only attest that most American (I am Australian) and Australian motocross tracks are smoother and harder packed dirt ... which will facilitate this sitting/cornering technique outlined in this video .. yes akin to Flat Track Speedway style cornering ..but back to the rutted loamy deep sandy tracks of Europe .... i am not convinced this cornering technique will make you faster on those tracks ... STANDING/CROUCHING has always been proven over and over again on rough motocross tracks the ONLY way to corner fast ... hell even in this video the GREAT Ryan Villopoto STANDS while cornering on American Supercross tracks sometimes...and i'm sure most guys here know Ryan has won 4 AMA Supercross titles to Chads 2 ....

    I road race an my first race i almost ran i go over because he banzai past just as i was about to turn in an was switching from right side lean to left an was standing in between sitting an grabbed a hand full of front brake before got his butt down near the seat...so tjeres a point where u off of down pressure an weight come off like u said more unettling bend ur knees an the suspension lifts theres ur grip an tire bite lessening peace

      Ever heard of hardpack tracks? Stefan Everts explains how to corner in sand, that's not what this video is about.

    you cant stand coming into a turn, most tracks are full brake bumps... if it was pavement, yea, but dirt is rough... stand way back breaking, then seat forward, leg out and dont drop the inside elbow, make the turn, seat back as you apply throttle for traction.

    I have a hard time taking you serious, first of all you posted that sped up video of Cooper Webb at cahuilla. Second of all, how could you be a real trainer and not know when someone would want to stand up going into a corner. Some tracks are insanely rough and the only way to preserve yourself to write a 20 minute Moto more or less, is to standup.

    You can sit when its smooth! Well...It´s never smooth!It´s motocross mxprofessor,its bumpy and if you sit you ride like shit,so please don´t talk non sense comparing road racer to mx riders its a complete different game...

    Lets ask the Europeans since we cant even win on our soil. and can even make it in the top ten at MXDN. Even the Australians are better than us.
