- Mumbai - Pune Trains passing through the heavenly Bhor Ghats in the peak Monsoon with a wide variety of Diesel and Electric Locomotives making this place a paradise for Rail Enthusiasts. Bhor Ghat is a mountain pass located between Karjat (KJT) and Khandala (KAD) along the railway line between Karjat and Lonavala in Mumbai - Pune route Located in Sahyadri Hills or Western Ghats of the Maharashtra State. The train climbs 566 meters in total 28 kms. Its having a ruling gradient of 1:37 that means for every 37 meters run there is a rise of 1 meter. Famous hill stations like Khandala and Lonavla are in this route, its one of the most scenic and green route to travel during monsoons.

The Bhore Ghats comprise of 3 tracks. The 1st track is for traffic going from KJT - KAD towards Pune, the 2nd track is bi-directional meant for two way traffic and the 3rd track , the oldest alignment is for traffic coming from KAD-KJT towards Mumbai/Kalyan.

All the UP Hill Trains towards Pune are attached with Bankers at the rear end of the Train (Locomotives help the train climb up the gradient) while the Down Hill Freight trains are attached with extra locomotives for additional Braking.

Wonderful Video!!!!! By the way... In those WAG-5 twins video.. Smoke was produced due to heating of brake pads i guess... Yes standing was also done for gaining the grip but mainly the smoke is produced by heating of brake shoes/pads :-)
Thanks for watching. I was a bit skeptical about that as I remember closely watching the moment I saw the white smoke. I didn't get that pungent smell of the heating rubber and also since there isn't any heavy load pulling involved nor there is a maximum speed between LNL-KJT , I concluded it must be the crushing sand-grains producing the white smoke dust.
TheRailzone smoking shoes/pads of locos produce some different smell.. Not pungent but something different!.. I have seen this many times.. Here the wheels were getting hot as well as wet due to rain.. So smoke is produced easily in rainy season. :-)

Very nice video, especially the way the surrounding beauty and greenery of Bhor Ghat (here we call it Khandala Ghat more often), has been captured with the trains snaking in and out through tunnels and all. Only disappointment for me was that I couldn’t view the much anticipated Mumbai-Kanyakumari Express properly. It rarely appears on such videos, most probably because of its timings of arrival and departure in the Mumbai-Pune section. It’s either very late in the evening or early morning
