Excellent capure! I absolutely adore the WAP5. Shame that it was never utilized by IR to its full potential. If they make the WAP5 like its basis (the Swiss Re 460/465 locomotive), it will solve its wheel slip issue. No hate to the WAP7 as its a great locomotive but if they do make the WAP5 like its actual Swiss ' parent ', it will accelerate faster than a WAP7 despite having a higher top speed (200 km/h) and lower weight (84 tonnes) These are the specifications of the current WAP5s: Weight - 78 t, max power output - 6000 HP, starting Tractive Effort- 258 kN. Continuous Tractive effort ~ 190+ kN at 71 km/h. Max speed - 200 km/h WAP7 & HS variant Specifications: Weight - 123 t (HS - 108.48 t), max power output - 6350 HP, starting Tractive Effort - 322.4 kN, Continuous Tractive Effort - 228 kN at 71 km/h. Max Speed - 140 km/h (HS - 180 km/h) SBB Re 460 and BLS Re 465 specifications: Weight - 84t, max power output - 8180 HP (Re 465 - 9390 HP), starting Tractive Effort - 300 kN (Re 465 - 320 kN), Continuous Tractive Effort - 230 kN at 88 km/h (Re 465 - 242 kN at 92 km/h). Now you can see what I mean. If the WAP5 were to be already ordered by IR to be made like the Re 460/5, we probably wouldn't have even needed to make WAP7 locomotives. Again, no hate to WAP7 locomotives! They are fantastic at what they do (efficiently pull heavy loads at moderate speeds). And I also have some great memories associated with the WAP7s.
You are right...I checked Swiss locomotive specs...9000hp in wap 5 will be great in Indian railways..plus if they use it in push pull mode like Amrit Bharat..that way we may not have needed those expensive vande Bharats..But the present govt is eyeing for showoff rather than providing service...so we aren't going to see these changes anytime soon...RDSO also had a specification for upgrading wap 7 to 9000hp..but IR never made that wap 7..the file is still available in internet under RDSO's site...Alas..for one vande Bharat, all these good things we will be missing...

Even now, performance wise, the current WAP5s are almost at par with the WAP7. With it having properties that of the Re460 and Re465 locomotives, which are capable of hauling long double deck Semi high speed trains on Swiss gradients (yes, they are not as steep as Swiss mountain rails but Swiss mainlines still have tougher gradients), the WAP5 will definitely be able to exceed the WAP7 in terms of pulling power. Wheel slip issue will be mostly solved.
Nice capture, was enjoying those low frequency motor sounds while accelerating and decelerating. Wap-5 is meant for hauling light loads at very high speeds, 160kmph. I heard someone saying that wap-5 couldn't maintain speeds at gradients. It has only 4 motors (ABB's 6fxa 7059, 3 phase 1150kw) yet powerful individually. Thanks for the video.
Very nice. Many feel our trains aren't as fast as trains in Europe. But let's understand that India is probably the only country that runs passenger trains with upto 23 or 24 coaches and that's more than 1000 passengers and their heavy luggage. We are truly a class apart.
The updated locomotive is WAP7 which is more powerful than WAP5. At present Indian Railway is manufacturing WAP7 inlieu of WAP5 for Passenger Traffic which does have more speeding capacity in a very short time.

I think that in both the videos (WAP5 and WAP7), the LPs were not throttling aggressively. They may be doing so considering the gradient of the track. If you throttle too hard on a positive gradient, there is a high chance of wheel slip and loss of tractive effort along with overheating the motors.
