Is there a way to have a DM version and player version on the same computer, that way I can project one to a big screen and the other stays on my laptop? I do that will roll20 for in person games so I can keep using my VTT and the players see their version on the TV and I have all my secret info on my laptop

I just tried this out and it worked! Use two browser windows and set one of them to "incognito mode" so it doesn't register as you. It will assign the incognito browser as a player role.

@@SlyFlourish is there a way to elaborate on how to do this? Using the same laptop to run the dm side and the player side hooked up to a TV. If it recognizes the incognito as the player, what happens when I switch to the dm browser side, wouldn't it then be visible on the TV screen (assuming my laptop is connected to the computer with hdmi chord)?

I just switched from Roll20 to Foundry. I really love having a VTT that has more functionality/prep. But I will say this: For a quick and dirty session/as an emergency backup if the VTT isn't working, Owlbear Rodeo is AMAZING. 10/10. Would recommend.

Thanks Mike! I heard about this on your Eberron prep video and instantly started using it. I was super intimidated by the bells and whistles of other VTTs. In my home games, I use a dry erase map, no minis. So Owlbear is perfect because I can set up a map overlay in seconds. Something I always tell my players "just because you don't see it on the map doesn't mean its there, tell me what your character is looking for." This helps us build really inventive combat encounters without me having to detail every item on the map. Thanks for the recommendation!

Found Owlbear Rodeo a few weeks ago and ran my first game using it last week. Worked amazingly. Second game is tomorrow and will be using it again.
The updated version seems even better with the ability to use line of sight in fog of war (looking through windows etc.) and having the ability to make tokens unseen to players (ghosts, traps etc.).
Couldn't agree with Sly any more, Owlbear Rodeo understands its place in the current market and imo does it fantastically.

I've discovered this tool last week, thanks to the channel WASD20, and it's just perfect for me and my players. We play on Skype and never used any VTT, because we didn't wish to face their learning curves. However, I wished to give them more immersiveness in the game and was looking for something simple, the equivalent of mat and tokens/miniatures. Owlbear Rodeo gives us this, but with the important added benefit of the fog of war. We are all very enthusiastic about it and we'll keep using it for a long time.

Just watched your excellent video, some comments:
When you're in the default drag mode (the hand), right mouse activates the laser pointer mode, which is nifty
Thanks for your demonstration of importing the map with 10' squares and setting the grid to 5' - I didn't even think of that!
OBR's token system can also be used for dungeon turn tracking, initiative tracking etc (they have a tutorial video on RUclips)
Really digging OBR for its simplicity

Thank you for discovering me this vtt, Sly. This is really a time-saver. After spending around 400 hours in roll20, I don't have the time nor the encouragement to go back to it or start with foundry anymore. I think this vtt does a wonderful job staying simple, because as years go by, the one-whole-package vtts are just not that useful for me. Specially after everyone is so used to dndbeyond while no big vtt has an easy-enough implementation.

Thanks so much, very informative and helpful.
The only info I think you forgot to add to this vid, would be a detail regarding the grid system. Whenever you edit the number of columns or rows in the grid, it also changes the size of the tokens. This means, that you can easily edit the size of the maps you upload without actually changing the resolution into something huge and ridiculous - which is extremely helpful for those with larger parties.
I have a very specific situation where I am looking to DM a campaign for a larger party (Over a dozen!) and most of the battle maps on dyson logos are pretty tight, with many hallways 1 square wide - which just isn't conducive for large battles.
Don't mean to be nitpicky on an otherwise extremely helpful vid, I just know I was looking around everywhere for a couple hours now for a way to do this, when all the time it was right in front of my face. So if anyone else has this need, hopefully this will help them too.
Keep up the great work, Lazy Dungeon Master! Much love from Baltimore!

I do see the benefit of battle maps in particular and OBR is the closest thing to converting me but I don't know if I'm trying to fix a problem that doesn't really exist and if I'll be losing a lot of creative freedom in the process.

You can load each level as a separate map into the tool, set up your tokens, and switch to the new map when you need it.

If you add a map during the game, can you add fig of war before shoring it to the players?

Is there a way to set bright light and dim light areas?

I feel you but if I were in their shoes, I'd think long and hard about every new feature I'd add so I didn't end up being a lesser version of Roll 20 or Fantasy Grounds.

Trying this but when i add tokens only some can be moved around the map and have options to names etc. The others seem locked and move the whole map with them & no option to unlock them or edit. Not sure why it is doing it any ideas otherwise going back to Roll 20

Any idea on why it keeps timing out on me when I try to load up the site? I'd love to check it out, but I can't seem to get their website to even load for me...

How well does this work on Mobile? Roll 20 is trash for mobile.

With respect to the fog of war feature, if you are playing solo, then I suppose you would allow that feature for the player to use (which is really yourself)?

How would you play DnD solo?
      I am intrigued

@@thybobogaert7303 On DMs Guild, you can search for D&D Solo. Paul Bimler has several solo modules that work as a "Choose your Own Adventure" style of play. He gives you choices and then you click on the choice and its links to wherever the next section is located in the PDF. In addition, you get maps and with OBR you can import them into the program to set up tokens. Interstingly enough, the DMs Guide for 5e and Xanathar's Guide (p.88) both have a lot of random encounter and map building information in them.
There are A LOT of methods to play without a DM. I use Mythic Game Master (GME) as an "Oracle" to provide Yes / No and other answers to questions to take place of a DM. Many modules can be done without a DM, although its not completely "unknown" to the adventurer, since you will need to read the module through and may know some surprises.
If you want to set up your own maps, and populate them the Donjon is a great site to create dungeons and hooks - donjon.bin.sh/fantasy/random/
Beyond DND 5e there are several solo type games as well, such as Ironsworn. This guy runs Ironsworn (as well as another) solo - ruclips.net/video/zVxJ3exjfgI/видео.html
Hope this helps you out some.

They recently changed it. Now you can draw a big box. Use the eraser or the cloud icons to set either turning fog on or turning it off.

@@SlyFlourish I don’t understand this. I tried using it yesterday and attempted to use the fog of war and it is less intuitive now. You can’t delete sections of it like you did in the video :(
