I am considering the purchase of an Asgard metal "garage" for storing a bike but have seen some reviews that indicate the materials increase condensation problems, has anyone here experienced that as an issue?

26:33 I think perhaps this 7 year warranty is more about tying you into dealer services once a year for the full term of the warranty, in fact it's called a service activated extended warranty, so basic is 3 years but thereafter it will be extended by one year at each service 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’d love to know how many bikers in the UK keep their new bike for 7 years. PCP finance apparently accounts for more than 80% of new bike sales…

It is but from experience My local Suzuki dealer service costs are very reasonable. Most people buying a new one do sell well before 7 years but it really helps if you sell it on privately. No other brand offers this.

I have one of the smaller Asguard sheds for about 10 years. I have moved house at least 3 times, for a couple of years it sat in a field in a disassembled state. Now it is back in full time use. Still in great condition. For insurance purposes it has always seems to be as good as a brick built garage. You can shoe horn in two full size bikes if one goes in forward and one rearwards, so long as we are not talking two GS size bikes. Condensation has never been an issue, there are enough vents. The only issue is it does get very hot in summer so extra insulation is a good idea to keep the temperature down although it hs never caused me any issues with my motorcycle. Regarding Suzuki extended warranty, it is the gold standard in manufacturers warranties, for this alone they deserve to sell more bikes than they do. Actually their reputation for creating reliable bikes is so good, its probably a rare thing to need it. For piece of mind, it is pricelesss and it actually costs the owner nothing, just the cost of an annual or sheduled service at dealer prices. I'll take that. By the way they do the same with their cars. You don't even need a full dealer service history. A dealer service gets you 12 months warranty full stop!. Which brings me to KTM. They also offer a similar extended warranty, but only in the EU and it would seem only if you have a full dealer service history. Why won't they offer it in the UK and other teritories?. It would solve any nervousness people have buying their bikes, it would preserve the used values and be a very quick way to lift the very low reputation the brand have at the moment. Of course it might cost them a small fortune at the moment, but that would incentivise them to design in reliability like the big four Japanese companies have done for decades. By the way, 1090s & 1190 KTMs didn't seem to have anything like the issues the more recent 790, 890, 1290s have had. How did they manage to drop the ball so specacularily. By the way, CMC motorcycles will do a life time warranty on most nearly new motorcycles. Now that is THE gold standard in motorcycle warranties.

Hi Freddie, another great video. Second hand bike prices!! In the UK, we have a strange approach to the value of cars and bikes. I have lived in a few countries and have seen a similar pattern across those countries that contradicts how we play in the UK. Firstly, if the bike (or vehicle) has no warranty, it is worthless. That is the first rule. Secondly, and assuming warranty for the period, this is how the value is calculated. Year 1, 20% loss (bike costs £11000 - 20% = £8800), year 2 another 20% loss (£8800 - 20% = £7040), year 3 another 20% loss (£5632) - so, if the bike is three years old, you have now lost £5368. Year 4 and 5 are exactly the same bring the value to end of year 5 to £3604. Beyond year 5, and assuming no warranty, the bike would be worthless unless a dealer offers a years warranty through something to the equivelant of RAC warranty cover - which in those countries, would be unusual - so the vehicle is worthless. And this maybe why second hand vehicles do not sell. As a buyer, you have a choice - second hand high prices or a brand new bike on HP with all warranty etc. As a side thought, the summer in the UK has started very late. As of now (31st July), it looks like the summer weather has started however, in 6 weeks time, we will be in the middle of September. 8 weeks time and October is here. This is a really short summer and a rule of thumb, no one buys bikes until the summer sun has come (other than hardened riders).
I appreciate that some will read this and shoot me down as the total cost of ownership of a vehicle rises dramatically - however, this is how it works. And this is why in other countries, people keep their vehicles for many years (France is a good example) rather than replacing their vehicles every two or three years as we do in the UK.
Furthermore, I am about to collect a Scrambler 400x this week from Triumph. Second hand for £4700 with 1600 miles and six months old. This sort of meets the principle 20% reduction for the first year. Having spoken in detail to the sales guy, he stated that second hand sales have collapsed. Nothing is selling and in fact, I traded my Tiger 900 GT in 14 weeks ago to buy a new T120 and this Tiger has not sold. And the Tiger, with 9000 miles on it, is in perfect condition (as you would expect from me 😆). Ironically, most of the second hand bikes do not have a price shown so, you have to ask the sales guy for the price (which I find a strange approach however). New bikes are selling and constantly going out of the door - which is good news I guess.
    Food for thought???

My husband has one of those Asgard for his Ducati and it made no difference when it came to insurance. Despite that it is really good and I call it his Ducati shrine as it has a red and black floor and a Ducati rug. Three other bikes sit down the side of our house the gap between the wall and the fence and we put a roof between the wall of house and fence so they are very well protected. The other bike we have sits in the back garden under a cover. So five bikes and only one gets to live in true luxury 😂

I think insurance companies make it up as they go and probably work together to fix the pricing. My multi-bike policy (2019 Guzzi V7 and a 1965 BSA Bantam) has gone up from £184 to £205 for this year, which may sound low for some younger riders but this has gone up every year and I've never claimed, and they're both in a proper garage, they even say on the email regarding the reason for price increases - "rising cost of claims the insurance industry now faces". You may get a discount for some sort of garage but it will go up next year to compensate for this.

    • @sammorgan7606

Price fixing across the board. Curry’s and comet did it back in the 90’s, the power companies have just done it and now the insurance companies are doing it. Together they can agree to not undercut or compete and raise their prices across the board. House, car and bike insurance all up this year by 50-60% in my case and no one willing to talk about a reduction. All blaming the cost of repairs, but all complicit in price fixing i suspect.

No idea where Clive got the idea that you can sell your bike privately on MCN, when you browse their website it's obvious they only do trade sells, pretty much what's already on Autotrader. How fair dealer prices are I don't know, I'd love to pay less as the next rider, at the end of the day it's a business it is supposed to make money. There is little to no appeal to buy private, 1 you can't buy on finance, unless it's a loan, 2 you have no warranty what so ever, 3 god only knows what lemon you are getting and what has the bike being through. Plus there are so many things to check, if you don't do your due diligence proverly you might drop a back of cash and have the bike reposed by a finance company.

Hi Freddie, Ive recently got my A license and have bought a brand new CFMoto 650GT for £4,500 and 3% finance. I thought it was a staggering deal, and the bike felt great to me. The 4 year warranty offset the 'made in China' in my head, but have I made an enormous mistake?
PS only just watched your previous video and quite the coincidence... The dealer said one of the reasons the bike was so cheap (£5,800 at launch, which was cheap to begin with) was upcoming Euro emissions being brought in. He said December this year.

    • @bankruptpensioner
      @bankruptpensioner 2 месяца назад +1

As a financial rule of thumb, if the interest rate is 3% or less, then it is better to take the finance than use your own money. The capital you would have laid out (rather than the monthly payments) can then be used to make back the 3% interest you will be paying over the period. But that assumes you look at money with active investment rather than passive investment 👍. I think you have a good deal 👍

You’re dead right about shifting a bike if you’ve over-priced it. I’ve recently sold both of my high-end - but popular - bikes within a couple of weeks. The price I advertised was a bit lower than anything else on AutoTrader, and yes, they sold to a trader, but without any significant haggling. I can see a few private sales for the same models I sold, but £2,000+ more, that were there when I advertised mine, and are still for sale on AutoTrader. The real issue is that there are significantly more bikes for sale than prospective buyers, good weather or not, and if it is not desirable or rare and it’s not the cheapest bike it’s going to struggle. With a few exceptions finance is not that cheap, and I wonder whether many prospective buyers aren’t as keen to have a finance agreement running when the cost of living is still uncertain.

Regarding the Ducati Scrambler 1100 service cost, I have the Sixty2 version yes I know it's a simpler machine than the 1100 but the principle is basically the same for changing the belts, plenty of 'how to' videos on RUclips or links to highly experienced independents who would complete any work at a fraction of the cost of the main dealer.
Before I bought my Ducati I did some research about belt changing, oil & filter changing and any other work, nothing to be scared of and they're pretty reliable as well.

Sellers are also to blame for selling issues, when I was recently looking I watched a local bike being re-advertised weekly so it did nto say for sale for 13 weeks etc etc , prcie went up and up throught he summer. I messaged and asked if the seller was open to offers and got a very short no. So I bought from a decent seller and had a great deal, that is a deal both parties are happy with. The bike I did message is still for sale ! as are a few of the others I was watching! Sellers are often being unrealistic as tp the real value of their bikes!

Freddie I wonder if there is simply a fundamental problem of over supply of bikes for the size of market of riders. We are seeing a lot of absolutely mint bikes that are 20 years old mostly because manufacturing and materials technologies in the last 20-30 years has meant many bikes that are kept even moderately well are just lasting seemingly indefinitely. Manufacturers old and new, are still producing many many many machines, and people are still buying new at cheap finance rates. It's a glut; A flood; a Feast; Chow down and pass the sauce.

I think Suzuki’s finance deal is good, or at least fair. What they might have realised is that PCP deals mean the actual outright cost of a bike doesn’t matter to many, what matters is the monthly payment and if that’s the same but the final payment is more they’re fine with that. A cracking HP deal however gives people pause for thought.

MCN the most respected motorcycle publication? Only in its own imagination. I've been reading it for almost 50-years. It's just about OK, no more than that. I suspect its ban on private sales is down to dealers not wanting (lower) private prices making their stock look expensive. All markets rise & fall, a bike is now mainly a discretionary purchase and due to the impact of the cost-of-living crisis people don't want to spend so much - or anything at all. That's life.

Like most I did consider the triumph 400's but don't think they are suitable for any real touring due to vibs. I guess I owe thanks to Soltire Motorcycles Edinburgh, BSA and of course Triumph for creating such a massively competitive market. Just hope all manufacturers survive it. Trev

KTMs styling and reliability may have had an effect on their sales, moving manufacturing to cheap factories in China etc. hasn’t helped. As for low mileage have you ever sat on a KTM seat? 😳 I owned one for three and a half years and sold it with extremely low mileage, an hour before a break and an hour home again maximum.

Maybe bikers looking to sell (and buy) should do what farmers do and offer face to face 'Bike Markets' a few times a year on open land around the country. Owners would stand beside their bikes for sale and offer an honest scam-free environment in which to trade. Some bike clubs maybe already offer this in some way.

I have owned over 70 different motorcycles and have owned a Ducati and they are very special and worth every penny. Just like Harley's they give you that indescribable feeling that no other brand can give. In my mind its like owning a ferrari and complaining that Audi R8's are cheaper to run. Both amazing cars and brands A ferrari just like a Ducati is expensive to own but my goodness, they really are worth it.

Inflation, inflation, inflation. Price volatility is terrible for both producers and consumers. As inflation affects input costs for the manufacturer and consumers ability to buy their product is reduced, it becomes a seesaw of trying to raise prices to cover costs, whilst simultaneously trying to reduce prices to attract new buyers- clearly a conundrum. Rounds of cost cutting and eventually the collapse of the company become inevitable if the economic climate does not stabilise. It’s why there is so much interest in Indian and Chinese bikes - they have huge home markets, relative market stability and therefore they produce low cost, budget machines, which more closely match the stretched western motorcycle consumers pocket.
Things were bad in 2008 during the crash, they never recovered, Governments just printed money hoping to paper over the cracks. Then the West committed Covid suicide, shutting down everything for 2 years and pumping additional billions into the growing paper mountain. Manufacturers experienced a mini-boom as all that paper changed hands, but as in all things, there is no free lunch. They expanded, increased production, invested in new models and filled dealers showrooms with stock, then the tide turned and things went sour. The market of boom, turned to bust. It’s not just motorcycles, it’s everything. We appear to be heading for a deflationary crash at a rapid rate.

Hi Freddie, with ref. to keeping your bike in a garage, I’ve got a Harley 48 115th Anniversary, in the T’s&C’s of my insurance policy if my bike is at my normal residence it has to be in my garage between the hours of 10-00pm & 6-00am or I will have to pay an additional excess on top of my normal excess if the bike was stolen.
Fortunately I have got a decent garage attached to my house.
    Great show 👍👍👍
