My hair does this and I was told by the “loctician” that started my locs that it was breakage because there is no such this as the hair growing away from the loc’s. This person said that doesn’t make sense because the loc was started with all the hair in there from the roots so how does it all of a sudden start growing away from the locs. I can gladly say that person is no longer my loctician!! Thank you so much for this video, I’m going to forward this video to her lol
20 yrs in, was so grateful to have been taught this is my growth pattern. I cannot leave my locs be for long extended periods as many recommend for the health of follicles as my locs will naturally thin then. It took me about 2 yrs of paying close attention to determine when it is best to tend to them and how and with what. It isn't exact intervals as my hair grows more during the spring and summer as does the texture soften even more than usual than during the fall and winter when moisture retention is more difficult. Even then as hormones fluctuate and or stress may hit things change. All you gotta do is watch and nurture like you do your plants with patience and gentleness and you'll be good. ❤❤❤
Thank you!!! I’m not alone! My hair does this! I’ve had sister locs for about three years and I dread going going for retightenings because my loctician complains about my little Afros and blaming me for doing something wrong. I’m done with this grid and having to pay for that negativity every 5 weeks.
The middle of my head is always astray. It just sticks up frizzy as can be. I’ve been lock a year and six months and these hairs never stay where they need to be. Fine curly hair
That’s exactly my problem too mine is in the middle of my head I thought something was wrong as well. I’m 19 months in my loc journey and my middle separates from my locs a month after my retwist.
Yes my hair grows away from the Loc and my roots would thin if I go too long in between retwist. I’ve learn I have to do what’s best for my hair and learn my hair! Thanks Jocelyn for delivering this content! 💕💕
I'm so glad that your addressing this topic! I'm almost 3 years in and realized my hair was doing this after about a year and a half in. I thought my loctician was doing something wrong. I realize it's my texture. Because my hair grows away from the loc and not in, I go every 6 weeks for maintenance. Again, thanks for discussing I really appreciate it.
I just started my loc babies a month ago and I’m SO GLAD I found you early in my journey. Thank you so much!! I choose you as my teacher lol I resonate with the wholistic approach and our textures are very similar. Much much Love 🩵🩵🩵
I love how informative your videos are. They are helping me cultivate the healthy relics I’ve wanted( much like your, color and all) I would love a video of a healthy dying process forth at minimizing breakage
Omg!!! I'm not alone. This happens to my hair mainly in the front of my head. I have fine strands, greying in the front too. These babies want to marry all over my head!!
I went too long without getting my hair retied and realized that my hair does this. I have little Afros then locs. But it’s nice to know that it’s not something I did or wrong with me. But it would be nice to be able to go long periods with out getting it done
Same! I think that every 3 months or so. it's like I have new hair in different spots or just a bunch of hair that is just is just like give us our own locs lol
@@kiaunakennedy6911 I usually just try to wrap the hairs around my loc. It does not last long doing it this way! My loctician usually interlocks the hair in when I go to her. I haven't tried to do it myself. I think I'll try!!
ThANK YOU! I am turning 60 years old on the 30th and over the past year my thick, curly texture has changed to thinning, straighter hair. YUK!!!! This video is right on time. Change of Life in women is REAL!
When I first started my locs I was consistent with retesting my hair but then I saw videos saying they’ll get thicker if I don’t touch them as much …. Little did I know 🥹 now i always have little Afro going on in between my locs
I'm 5 days in with my starter locs, and I have found out that my loctician didn't catch all of my hair in the 2 strand twists she established. I now have strays in the parts and don't know what to do? My loose hair is fine and cottony, so these loose strays are prone to breakage, knots, and clumping. My twists are beautiful, though. Just hate to start over.
Thanks for this bc my hair grows away from my locs, I have thick 4c coarse hair with 15 month small locs I’m catching hell around my perimeter . My now ex-loctician finally combined a few after I suggesting it for a few months when initially was notice then thinning.
Yep I got that problem being my hair grows away from my locks. But there is another thing, my 3 month old comb coils are starting to lock, but my locks has the frizz. The strands are sticking straight out of my locks making them frizzy. My hair texture is semi curly and very fine. Please tell me your suggestions.
Omg! I can’t wait to hear this one. My loctition says my hair grows faster then it locs. I can accept that, but I really want to know how I can care for them without gels crochet hooks etc. I would like to just loosely twist the loose hair strands, but it’s to many strands to do so.🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
Mine grows with my loc, and I am guilty of not doing anything to it after washing, and I only tighten about twice per year, unless something comes up. You must've been calling me out personally with this video, lol.
Im sad because my locs dont last in my rewist for even a month before it growing away from my root. I got my hair retwisted on july 27th. Its august 23rd and its falling out smh
Good evening! I’ve twisted my hair over a month ago right? I had mad new growth! But once I get a retwist, am I going to have new Locs included in my retwist??
Im 1 year loc & i have 2 locs thats thinning i dont get tight retwist & i dont get tight hairstyle i just broke one off today & starting that one over how can i prevent it from doing that again?
So glad you’re addressing this. I’ve been so frustrated because I’m unsure of the frequency of retwisting that I need to implement to ensure my locs remain thick and strong. My loctician has tried needling in the sections that have gone totally rogue due to my hair growing outside the locs.
I’ve dealing with this for soo long. If I don’t get a retwist every 6 weeks it looks rough. Then the thinning 🥲. I’m about to just restart and do semi free forms after 4-5 years 🙃
It depends on how your locs were started and your hair characteristics. There is nothing you can do about it once it's clear how your hair behaves as your locs mature. Stop worrying. This is just a part of having locs. If you can't stand it, don't get locks. Really. Just don't. You will never be satisfied for more than a few days at a time, otherwise.

I have Sisterlocks. Loc'd since 09. Same issue. Forget about the grid and worry about the health of your locs.
Beautiful regardless 😉🙂
Mine blames me as well. SMH. I told her that I have come to realize and accept that it's just my hair texture, and it is what it is, and she agrees

Yup! New title: “Frizz. It’s a lifestyle” 😂

a year loc’d and still frizzy 😰

STOP listening to folks telling you to go months WITHOUT retwisting!

Mine grows away from my locs also. You're absolutely right, i can't just wash and go, nor can I go months without a retwist
I love that first cuff you put in. That piece was my fave.
my hair grows outside of my Locs too ! OMG ! I was just looking up info to explain this !
I was just searching for a video on this and you delivered. The back of my hair is so disrespectful with these loose haira
Lol!!! So respectfully disrespectful
Totally relate 😊

My hair is the same way i knew my third yr of twisting i was done an took on freeform N 4eva🔒'D
Thank you for this because I was so worried! During my 1 year of locs, I have a whole bunch of hairs growing away from my locs
Omg!!! I'm not alone. This happens to my hair mainly in the front of my head. I have fine strands, greying in the front too. These babies want to marry all over my head!!

My hair definitely grows away from my locs! Thanks for this video because I thought something was wrong with my hair. Now it all makes sense 😅❤
I was almost a year in with my locs and had this experience. I thought I lost a loc in that spot and it somehow fell out lol.
Same! I think that every 3 months or so. it's like I have new hair in different spots or just a bunch of hair that is just is just like give us our own locs lol
@nakiaedwards3564 right!! I'm actually experiencing it once again! I'm like ok hair!!
Thought it was just me lol so quick question, how do you maintain your locs with all this extra hair in between the parts ? Interlocking maybe?
@@kiaunakennedy6911 I usually just try to wrap the hairs around my loc.
It does not last long doing it this way!
My loctician usually interlocks the hair in when I go to her. I haven't tried to do it myself. I think I'll try!!
That is my head for sure!!!! 🤦🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️ I wanders. My curl pattern is more loose wave, especially at the edges….birds nest!
😂😂 mines grows outside mines only in the front and the right side. Lol
Same for me
My locs do just what you said, grows away from my locs. Right On. I love the look of my Locs❤😊
Thank you omg!!!
Hey sis! Can I get the info on how to purchase the tee and hoodie you be rocking’ in your vids?? I would love to get one of each!!!
My hair grows away from my locs and my daughter is the opposite. We have different hair textures. Excited for the next video ❤

I just noticed mine doing that
Thanks for addressing this
Thanks for letting me know my fuzzies are ok. 🌺

yesss‼️ I feel better Now🥺
Mine is doing this so until I really thought that it was breakage.

Slightly braid the strands back in. Hope that helps
My hair only grows away from my loc on the top of my head

I like to join the hairdos club.

Very helpful ❤thanks
Can you please tell me where I can find this loc jewelry? Specifically the last one you added
Good night @thedigitalloctitian :)
How can you distinguish this from breakage please?
Which video has the solution that you mentioned? I went to your page & there's an overwhelming amount of content & Idk which one I should watch.

Lip color please!!!
If u have small locs like me u def can’t let it be cause when I don’t have a retwist it’s having on a string 🙄🙄
Im 1 year loc & i have 2 locs thats thinning i dont get tight retwist & i dont get tight hairstyle i just broke one off today & starting that one over how can i prevent it from doing that again?
Can new locs be formed with the hair that grows away from the locs?
They could but that would not be recommended
Spider web roots!! It's the reason I avoid my retwists lol

Because of my texture it grows away from the locs.
Yup. Lol 😂 hair does different things.
I’ve dealing with this for soo long. If I don’t get a retwist every 6 weeks it looks rough. Then the thinning 🥲. I’m about to just restart and do semi free forms after 4-5 years 🙃
My hair does this in the front and it’s annoying …. Literally have an Afro in front

Ik im late but i guess your saying its not necessarily a sign of thinning
