3 things we learned in the comments:
1 - that blue slip Alex pulled out of the bag is actually made to go under the sheer Nippon Boutique dress
2 - The non labeled items are not "homemade" they are handmade 1 of a kind originals ;)
3 - if you have just cleaned out a house containing over 1,000 scissors and then use a set of plastic kiddie scissors on film, we are going to make fun of you! Up your game man, you have some seriously nice scissors to choose from.
also as a bonus #4 we would all love to see someone actually wearing some of this clothing.

Hey, been watching for a while, enjoy the channel. Would like to offer a little free "vintage" advice. I've collected and worked with vintage and historic garments for 24 years, and some of the items I've been seeing, I think are not quite understood, fully. At the 12:19 mark, a light pea green ladies jacket is inspected. The term "home made" was used, the thing about that jacket is, it's from the 1940s, a lot of suit items, women's and men's a like didn't always have lining, except for the sleeves. If the inside seams have taped edges, that's a detail of that era's work. Also, if you see visible stitching, it's a style detail, called "pick stitching" where it was a fashionable detail, of the 1940s. Also, to ID 40s vs 50s or what not, it's important to remember shoulder pads were popular, such as Joan Crawford's style. Not to drag on too much more, but if you see a size such as a 12 or higher, in the decades prior to the 1960s or so, ladies sizes operated a different sizing method. I can't recall the conversion from the older method to the modern, but a size 12 isn't exactly a large size. The black dress at the 17:21 mark, with the small lace detail? That's late 1920s, to no later than 1930...depending on condition, it can be very collectible!
Feel free to hit me up if you have questions about the clothing, I'd be happy to help out, if you need.

As a design professional, watch out for moths! The larvae not visable but they go for the wool & silk. Before you start cleaning, get long pipes to use to hang close- from the rafters if need be. It will save you & the materials a lot of stress.
Then put all on hangers- painted wire ones frm dry cleaners best. Then you can steam them to release wrinkles & kill any insects. Organize by season as your friend had done.

Beautiful vintage clothing for sure! Btw, lots of home sewers are professional seamstresses, they just choose not to work in stores or have their own shops. Alex and Melissa you are probably younger than my own kids' ages and lately I see you two more than I do my own family! I feel like I know you! Haha! I am NOT into antiquities, but I love history. I also like cleaning and for some strange reason I feel a sense of accomplishment when Alex finishes going through boxes and/or houses and discovers treasures that end up looking so perfect for the purpose he has in mind. When he was digging through that secret room knee deep in insulation, rodent droppings and pine cones, I had RESPECT! I ended up with the satisfaction of seeing him take a total disaster and make it all organized and useful with the help of his friends and co-workers. I also like repurposing, and that piano bar in his shop was genius. I raised sons and Alex has a sense of humor much like my boys. Melissa you are his perfect other half and so easy going. I love watching the bonding time with the kiddos that your family business allows. I want to thank you for taking me along on your adventures. Buy a soap called ORVUS from a farm store. It’s used to wash sheep and horses. You can use one tablespoon per wash load to clean any natural fiber. It is typically used by quilters. You can gently wash all silk and wool. It is less harsh than dry cleaning. Dry sweaters flat and hang wool woven.
Also you can recycle damaged clothing so I suggest you either sell a pile cheap on Facebook or give away. Some of the older buttons especially mod Sykes ones from the 60s and 70s are work quite a bit of money

@Curiosity Incorporated keep in mind that sizing is subjective. Historically a size 12 was a 24" waist and now is a 28-30" waist. Also, depending on maker, a 12 in DVF will measure different than a 12 in The Bay from the same era. There is no standard size chart in the fashion industry.
Do not discriminate "known" designers vs others. All of that stuff is high end.
Thank you for recognizing the workmanship of the bespoke pieces. They are made from top shelf, quality fabrics and finished by a skilled hand. We are looking at fine tailored, vintage dresses that were made to fit perfectly. Many are better quality than so-called "designer" pieces.
Another thing to consider about sizing is that historically, women were wearing foundation garments that changed the shape of their figure. Modern undergarments are a different shape and fit.

@Mu*Shu TeeVee I was just trying to point out that some collectibles of the past were super cheap and considered junk but over time people can come to collect anything and find value in even the lesser desired items of the past can become more desirable as time goes on. Cracker jack toy, cheap glass of the past can become highly collectible and valuable. So just saying cant go by the standards of the past. Must go b the what people want now. It changes from year to year and decade to decade.

And amazing that their label was second in fame only to Calvin Klein in the 70s and 80s; when Nancy Reagan and Barbra Streisand were among its devotees. 😍

Alex, some tips for the vintage clothes. I am a former vintage seller and learned a few things along the way😉 If you are going to steam some of the clothing instead of dry cleaning.. spray the pieces with cheap vodka and hang them in some sun for a little bit. It magically takes away any lingering odors!
If you have pieces that aren't up to your standards make up mystery boxes. Crafters, designers, seamstresses, upcyclers, etc. Love them! Some people like to use the older pieces as patterns.

I remember wearing a pair of shoes to visit my great gran, who was 90 at the time, and she was shocked because she had a pair identical from her youth - she made me pull out a great trunk from under her bed that she had kept all of her favourite pieces of clothing in from when she was young and brought out the exact same shoes, only much better made - they were round toed, club heeled Mary-janes in burgundy leather - she wanted to give me them. Unfortunately she had tiny feet and they didn’t fit me. I would have loved the vintage pair.

My Dry Cleaners asked me years ago, "Why are you having us use solvents to clean lightly soiled dresses, blouses, skirts & jackets, which wet down your clothes, with allergy inducing Petrol-chemicals instead?" Say whaaaat!? Seriously 😳. When I switched to WOOLITE and DRYELL.
      1) Dryell for the Dryer (toss pieces into a bag, after spot cleaning, with a Dryell cloth), "Damp Dry," on timed settings between 20-30 minutes. I usually get 2 loads of 6 items.
I test for WOOLITE hand wash, hidden areas with a Q-tip and cold water, see if it bleeds. The new colorsafe Woolite? I've had no more bleeds. That's why you don't put white underwear in with red dresses = pink undies.
Now if you have an HE washer, you're in more luck: Woolite HE! I put straight cold water, but not stuffed, on extra delicate on a regular machine. For light cleaning, I use 1/2 Woolite normally required. I have skin allergies.
I also have, "hand wash," on my Maytag Commercial Machine. Not advertising, just why I use these machines IS predominantly for hand washing and cleaning dry cleaning clothes! I've complete control over soil level, wash temp & agitator in wash. Most people mistake the generic , "Heavy," setting on their washer, to mean load size. NO, that's fabric density, for bulky sheets, jeans, towels! Will afraid your T-shirt designs. I also never put fabric softener in with clothes - leaves oily residue. 1/2 dryer sheets seem okay.
When you must hand wash with Woolite, I use a big bucket from Home Depot. Put a few Tablespoons of Woolite in, with comfortable cold water, soak for 3-5 minutes. Then rinse in sink, no agitation. Do NOT TWIST & wring! I try to let the water run in my 2nd sink, until next load done. Have many towels opened up, lay the clothes out, roll them up gently - sometimes you need another towel out for dresses! I go from light to dark in water, change as needed.. By the time I wash & rinse 20 plus dresses, my towels are full. Hang up to line dry, or across your washer and dryer, any coated shelves in laundry room.
That's the best suggestions I can give you. Always TEST first on something you don't care about.
I usually have everything going on at the same time, hijack the bathroom, bathtub for towels soaking up water.
I've only lost a wool sweater to being washed maliciously with regular clothes - then tossed into the dryer with T-shirts. fit a baby, afterwards. 😳

I found about a half dozen fur coats in a storage unit I bought, I thought I'd hit the jackpot, turns out you can't hardly give them away. Some people cut them up and make stuffed animals out of them. The only person I've seen wearing one was a very elderly Asian lady at Ihop, lol.

I agree with HANDMADE and ONE OF A KIND, instead of homemade. From a lifelong sewer.
