  • Yeah it is way better to use Premiere for captions. I guess some soul is lost but this is RUclips Shorts I don't think there was much soul to begin with.

      Omega is the one who slides around the stage when punching. At least knuckles has a mini 1,2 you can spam by tapping b without moving

      Me too. The controls do not take away from the experience because the play area is still pretty big in a lot of levels and you can avoid certain habits that lead to wonky controls making you fall off

    I like Sonic Heroes but the speed momentum definitely felt slippery. A remaster that adjusts this would help a lot.

      @@goingnutzz sonic A 1 and 2, and Sonic 06 aren’t that fast. Sonic man is faster than Sonic in 06. And none of the games actual sonic speed is faster than that of a turtle

      ​@@alanbareiro6806 I played the game on the PS2 when I was a kid, beat all the stories except the Final one. Speed characters were incredibly tricky to control, downright unwieldly at times. The controls were way too sensitive

    Everyone here is debating over "Skill issues," but I'm over here just disappointed that there was no "explained" here. I thought he was gonna go into the background of why the controls are like this from the game development or sum lol

      It could be a rushed development scenario, the new formula for this particular game, or just bad luck when it came to how good the controls were. It is likely not some big history behind the controls, but the first two could be plausible, especially the new formula. I could be wrong, but the controls don't have some quirk about them that yells out they were supposed to be better

      @@adamspeiser6449I don’t think it was rushed since it took 20 months to develop which was a decent amount of time back then. That said they also had to learn how to develop for Xbox, PS2, and GameCube. Plus learn how renderware worked

    Heroes is a legitimately difficult Sonic game, partly because of the controls and partly because of the choke points/bullshit enemy placements in the latter half of the game.
    To answer the question about why Sonic feels so slippery though, is because his acceleration and speed are literally just doubled from Adventure 1. They doubled the parameter for acceleration and speed, you can see this for yourself whenever you go through a scripted loop. ( The final one in Seaside Hill before the Goal Ring being a notable example. ) Adding to this, the PC port of Heroes has NO speed cap to speak of, so Sonic will clip through objects with alarming frequency once he's going fast enough due to the doubled speed. You can also trigger this yourself on console by spamming the kick/rocket accel as you come out of a loop into a spring. Sonic will zip right through it because he's going too fast.

      Honestly, I dont think controls are fully at fault. Slippery is fine if you have an area to stress and compensate for it. Levels were also at fault to some degree. Pathways should be wider, levels should be able to compensate for your speeds (vines for example)
      I think having a couple pace breakers are fine so you can utilize the other characters more. Think of it like a break after just speeding across a long road. I like the insane speeds. Feeling fast should be a priority to a sonic game, something I feel even Frontiers fails at

Some glitches here and there, ring light speed dash can be jank at times, switching rails requires one not to hold forward or boost to do so, omega attacking slides way too much, enemies can’t be attacked inside speed type created tornado, one shouldn’t rocket excel on any loops or automated sections, chaotix missions can be a drag, special stage controls are just the worst, casino pinball roll is a bit too difficult to control, and the croc section sucks
      Speed type running speed though is great, level design is one of the best the series has seen so far, the overall combat, abilities, lvl up system, character switching are good.

    Actually power characters aren't required to push or pull switches. You can use speed characters. Also you have to use flying characters to push the switches in the air.

      Power characters are best for grounded switches, since flying characters can only pull elevated switches and speed characters will fling them all over the place if you press the button and aren't in the right spot.

    100% correct on the puzzles, i got so tired of watching the tornado animation and constantly needing to switch characters to do one singular action, like flying over a 'just tall enough' wall, or dealing with enemies that NEED to be dealt with specific characters, it's all so tedious

      The shooting ones were annoying, but some other ones were not too bad, especially enemies since speed can quickly do it if you were at level 3 because the homing attack had tornado properties. This made going on the poles and flipping enemies and their shields a little more fun

    Sonic being harder to control is kind of the point. You have two characters with slower speeds but more manageable traction, so if you want to go fast, you have to know what you're doing with Sonic. Also, you can stop knuckles from sliding by letting go of the stick. If you ONLY press the attack button, he jabs while only moving an inch at a time. Hope this helps

    As someone who plays on the pc port, I can say this is so cap. Once you get a feel for the movement, the game feels so good to control, especially when you learn to maintain the momentum when switching characters. Also each character has a purpose, sonic is meant to be fast, knuckles is meant to deal with enemies quick, tails is meant to help you get your beaerngs, get to higher areas and save you form bottomless pits Yes, the game does have problems. However, it is more than playable. Tldr: Learn the movement and becomes confident in your inputs

      It’s arguable that controlling your character shouldn’t be a demanding skill. Doing so well and fluidly, using advanced tech maybe, but not going in the direction you want to go.

      Dudes, yes, i know that the acceleration of the speed characters is off the charts and i know Heroes is a janky game. However the speed characters are literally 1/3 of the controls and you are not expected to do platforming with them. Knux a ground attack that can send you to a bottomless pit, but he also has a versatile air attack. Also power formation isn't the only combat option, you also have the tornado and the thunder shoot, making the whole thing more balanced and manageable.
      The game could have been better? Yes. The game is clearly rushed? Yes. But critcism needs to at least engage with the proposal of mechanics. If you are against a button to switch characters and didn't understand that it needs to be used all the time, then say you don't like the mechanic and discuss the pros and cons of that. But here you are just mixing things poorly

      Adventure 1 and 2 had the controls down. Why is it that the game that comes after makes you lose control of the characters easily? This game isnt very well optimized and it failed to make a good game with good control.

    My first console game.
    I didn't have the concept of "pace breakers" back then.
    At first I was too scared to lose control as Sonic but as I got better, I mastered controlling the Blue Blue.

    Other comments here are mind-numbing.
    Heroes has really stiff controls as a result of having stunted adventure physics (Sonic's acceleration is doubled).
    Being discontent with the feel of the game isn't a skill issue; the physics in this game are very poor and rushed.

      Sonic's acceleration is increased to differentiate the characters, Sonic is a speed type, speed type characters are mainly focused on that, if you want to go with less acceleration, switch to Knuckles or Tails, it's that simple.
      The game makes it clear when to use each type, it even changes them automatically, you have to use your head a bit, obviously you won't use a speed type for platforming, you can do that but then don't complain that it's difficult or that you're going too fast.

    Recently both SA 1 and 2 on my Xbox, those two being the first 3D Sonic games I’ve ever played (I barely played a 2D one on my mom’s genesis when I was a kid). When I first started playing I despised the janky controls, especially the the camera. But I learned to get used to them and I actually love planning the Sonic levels the most!

    The issue with the "different characters are for platforming" is they nerfed Sonic for this to be the case he controlled fine in the other games but this just strips him to the spectacle guy that goes fast on occasion and that's just not it

      @@theu20092010 I wouldn't really call it nostalgia. I never had problems with heroes as a kid, similarly I never ran into the glitches ppl complain about in sonic 06.
      so I feel its people like me were its like.
      "the controls are bad? really?"
      and
      "it had bugs? I never saw any."
      So I can see why someone would call it a skill issue if as children alot of us didn't even notice it was bad...
      then again I remember my cousin being unable to beat the game and asking me to do it despite me being younger so im just assuming some of us were just built for heroes controls.

    Honestly, falling is a problem in a lot of modern Sonic games. Adventure, Adventure 2, Heroes, 06, Unleashed, Generations, they all have some variations of things that shouldn't make you fall to your death but does it anyway.

      It was not too bad if you had a good start. The times I got them were usually times I got them in like 15 seconds or less since your boost speed is more than enough to quickly close the gap. If you hit spikes and get to tougher parts, then I agree it is the hardest, but ones like Sonic 2 were tougher in my opinion

      Using team rose and the power character actually makes collecting the chaos emeralds not to bad. Collecting the keys is the most nerve wrecking thing though

    I did love this game, but I remember playing it when it came out and noticing the controls were a lot worse than SA2. I used to think it was because it went to the PS2, Xbox and GameCube 😂 because SA2 controls were on point, looking back though I appreciate this game. Except for the pinball level.

    Weakness.
    No, in all fairness, this game just cannot handle inertia. The turtles in Ocean Palace always make me nervous, despite being only the second stage, because if you’re sailing through the air with a speed character, there’s a coin toss’ chance you’re gonna throw yourself off the edge with momentum

      I don't know if it depends on the version of the game, because as I said I played it on Xbox, which is the second best version of the game, while on Ps2 and PC the game has many problems

    I loved this game as a kid and recently tried sonic frontiers. i honestly think Heroes’ controls and movement are substantially more fun.

    This probably has to do with renderware being an engine for racing games. The early 2000s GTA games had very clunky movement as well, and speedrunners will know about the replay glitch that allows you to zoom off uncontrollably.

    I literally not even trolling was on Rail Canyon. I just grabbed the key and the section where you have to use Tails to go over the fence and break the machines to hit the switches. I was literally so scared to use Knucles on that tiny platform because if I fall. I lose the key to the Special Stage and I can’t get it back. I use the punch and i slide off the stage.

      I stick to the first fireball hit where the characters spin around you. It is no different from the movement of a normal jump and will destroy the containers. Safe, easy, and effective

    Truthfully I didn't mind this game too much, in fact I rarher liked Heroes, despite it getting the reputation of the "jumping the shark" game for Sonic fans. I think it could benefit from a remake fixing it's flaws though.
    I loved swinging on poles lol.

      The only thing is that Heroes promoted the puzzle aspect more than the speed aspect from the start by allowing you to switch to characters that are not fast. Teams like Team Rose have a speed character that is inherently slower too, so that was not their main goal if I were to wager. They do have fast spots though, and perhaps it is disorienting to stop out of nowhere to solve a puzzle while you expect to be going fast

    The team blast after effects were hints on how you were supposed to use the teams. (As the meter drains certain effects take place)
    Also each team has different motion mechanics to match the theme of the team. (The bonus world emerald chasing showcases this with which ever team it felt better getting the emeralds with)
    Team heroes was the last to show up to the end game scenario.(Neo metal sonic even says something mid game to suggest that they are the last team to be encountered after the grind rail valley lvl)
    pair that with how reckless this team functions and it starts making sense as to why this team can feel sloppy, it matches the way they think and the fact that team heroes was the last to figure out what was going on and had "3 days" to hastily make it to the egg fleet.

    If you press the attack button rapidly as Knuckles he starts doing a barrage of quick fists, which helps limit his movement (this doesn't work with other Power characters though).

      This. I loved this game as a kid, and even I had some obnoxious moments or downright bs deaths that annoyed me. Thank god I never cared about A ranking.
      Like, people can still like stuff that has flaws. I don't know why they're losing it because some folks think the controls were kinda wacky in Heroes, especially compared to SA1 and 2.

Every time I touch a spring I switch to fly formation just in case I unexpectedly fly off the stage, because the game does this a lot. Look no further than the special stages. I can see your argument for people that are great at adjusting to slippery controls, but the general audience isn’t going to be able to. I’ve been playing with my girlfriend and her main complaint was “there is no reason that im more concerned about falling than the enemies.” There is a huge difference between hard controls and hard gameplay.

      It is usually in specific scenarios where they slide around, so it can be controlled. The only issue is when you are forced into the land of butter by attacking enemies with Knuckles or falling from high heights and using speed boosts. Some things are avoidable given the game has multiple routes and solutions to issues

    Jumping around a bit more helps since the air attack with power formation is useful and won't have you fall off, and jumping in speed formeation will have you lose some speed, but you can easily get it back

    As Knuckles, mash B to slowly punch forward repeatedly. You don't slide across the stage this way. This only works with Knuckles.

    Sonic Heroes is great man, accept it lol. you just showed the bad aspects of it, and Knuckles being slower than Sonic is obvious. If Knuckles was fast too, Sonic would lose his purpose in the game

    Somehow I found this game more fun to play than SA2, but I think that was due to stage variety, less attempts at being "dark", and the music. Yeah, the controls were pretty rough. And shit. And eyagh.

    He think he cooked, but didn't. We all know Sonic Heroes could control a little ass some times, but it's still extremely fun and once tou get the pace the levels are extremely frenetic and epic! Only thing that can really get bad in this game is the bugs that make you fail some automated sections, aside from that, it's fun from point to point

    i love the aesthetic of sonic heroes. I truly do... but when my character controls like they've got butter under their shoes, then its hard to really enjoy those good vibes it can offer. It's still a great looking game though. 👍

      @JoseGregorioValeroVillarroel Spamming the attack button as Knuckles WITHOUT pressing the analog stick. You do short, fast punches. The "wide arc" punches are actually homing shots meant to close the distance between you an an enemy, like in SA2.

    The GameCube version handles better than the PC version. I had a lot of trouble with the PC version and I did fine as a kid on the GameCube.

    Part of what makes games fun is less than amazing controls, thus making the game way harder and making skill much more important. In some cases it ruins the game, but blasting at insane speeds with Sonic for me was totally worth it
