If the service is subterranean or the waitress is particularly unfriendly, don't be afraid to NOT tip. You are not obliged to. You should also be honest if you don't like the food. This is the only way the host can improve next time or prepare a new meal. Many greetings from Germany.
Even if it takes a little effort, it's probably best to ask a restaurant employee what the customs are. While the proverb may be only be ascribed to Chinese wisdom, it's true: "If you ask a question, you're a fool for five minutes; don't ask, and you are for your whole life."

A warm hello from Germany! I would like to set a few things straight. The prices are a bit higher now. A tomato soup would now cost about €6.50, a rump steak about €28.00, a large beer (0.5l) about €5.00 - €6.00. There are restaurants that offer smaller portions for children and senior citizens. But if there are generally large portions, it is not usual to ask for small portions. But here it is quite legitimate to ask if you can take the rest (meat) with you. It is no problem to have it wrapped up. Tipping is perfectly fine at 5-10%! Many kind regards

I have learnt so much from this video (especially with 'die Bedienung' - that was new to me) and I was mostly just revising more of my A1 as I am progressing into A2 after completing my A1 studies (as well as obtaining the Goethe A1 certificate). I have been in 2 Restaurants/Kneipen (so far) in Germany, but next time I believe I will be able to order much better. 😅 I lack self confidence and I am rather shy speaking in German😶 but I hope that goes away with time. Ok, I want to be streight and blunt with my feedback and answer too. I loved this video very much because we all expat face the exact challenge in Germany. And above mentioned all points I agree because these are basic restaurant etiquete that we follow in our country as well. But what is funny in germany is cleaning the nose no matter what location...even restaurant + louder. they dnt even think other people are having food, how they feel. :P that is funny for me that makes me laugh bt others feel awkward. Atleast this is something should be taken care in restaurant where people eat. :)

For conversation practice you can check FB, there are a lot of groups where you can find people to practice. Another option are books from "Hueber" called "Hören und Sprechen". They offer them for the different levels with listening and speaking exercises that you can do alone. 🙂👍🙏

Um höflich zu sein, sollte ich die Word 'bitte' am enden der Satz nutzen?
Zum beispiel: 'Als Haupgericht, hätte ich gern die Kasespatzle, bitte'.
Höflichkeit ist für mich sehr wichtig.
As an English speaker it feels very natural and polite to say 'please' at the end of a request. Ist es gleich auf Deutsch?
Es kommt auf deinen Satz an. Grundsätzlich kann man "bitte" natürlich benutzen, aber in einem Satz mit "hätten + gern / würden + gern" ist eigentlich nicht nötig. Die Kombination von hätten/würden + gern ansich ist schon sehr höflich.
Although it's possible to add "bitte" at the end of the sentence here, but in this kind of sentence structure it would be over polite, so as native we normally don't add it. 🙂👍🙏
If the bill is €48,60 is it polite to just round up to €49 or €50 mit Trinkgeld? Just asking, thanks
Normally the waiter/waitress won't say anything, but it's considered as impolite/greedy. It's common to give around 10% 🙂👍🙏

Can you ask for free tap water in german restaurants? Or will you always been given bottled water which you have to pay for?
Most restaurants only offer bottled water, which you have to pay for. I only had it once or twice that there was some kind of carafe on the table with free tap water. I actually wanted to include this tip in the video, but in the end cut it out...🙂👍🙏

The name Hammerl (not Hammer) is the most common in Germany. However, the name originally comes from Austria (the second most common here). If there is an "l" at the end of a word (i.e. Hammerl instead of Hammer) it is a belittlement (i.e. small hammer), which is mainly used in southern Germany (Bavaria) or in Austria. Nun, alle Trinkgelder, die die Kunden mit der Rechnung an das Personal geben, gehen an den Restaurantmanager und den Besitzer. Das ist so schade. Geben Sie einfach den richtigen Betrag und zahlen Sie anschließend an das Personal, das ist die richtige Vorgehensweise.
Das mag in manchen Ländern so sein, in Deutschland ist das normalerweise nicht nicht der Fall. 🙂 In vielen Restaurants wird das gesamte Trinkgeld am Ende eines Tages gleichmäßig unter allen Angestellten aufgeteilt. 👍
Es ist absolut unüblich den genauen Betrag zu zahlen und der Bedienung dann Geld zuzustecken. Auf diese Weise bringt man den Angestellten unter Umständen ungewollt in eine sehr unangenehme Situation. ... Einfach wie im Video beschrieben Trinkgeld zu geben, ist die sicherste Variante, dem Kellner/der Kellnerin keine Probleme zu bereiten. 👍🙂🙏
