The Unspeakable Things That Happened In Lebensborn: The Nazi Breeding Farm?

  • The Lebensborn began in 1935, the same year that the Nazis passed their anti-Semitic “Nuremberg Laws.” By 1935, Hitler and Himmler felt strong enough in their position in Germany to begin what would eventually end in the murder of six million Jews and five million other people in the Holocaust. Historians still debate whether or not Hitler and Himmler actually began this process with the idea of killing millions of people, but we do know that at the very least, they wanted to remove all “un-German” people from the lands that Germany controlled or would control throughout the war. If you are a racial eugenicist, someone who believes that unwanted traits can be scientifically or criminally removed or bred out of a population, it's only logical that you would encourage the reproduction of the people you wanted.
    What did Lebensborn do?
Officially, Lebensborn focused on three things: providing a healthy and safe environment for healthy “Aryan” mothers, placing children with childless German couples if the mother could not care for them, and canvassing the countries Germany conquered during the war.
The unofficial part is where most people stop learning. Since the end of the war, the Lebensborn has been called the “Nazi Breeding Program,

Anni-Frid "Frida" Lyngstad of ABBA is a Lebensborn child. Those kids bore no responsibility for what their mothers did or were forced to, and yet they carried the blame for decades.

Exactly. It's disgusting to hear how many of these "children" were treated. They were only children and were innocent of doing anything wrong whatsoever. For me, their treatment after the war was worse than the whole Lebensborn fiasco. People should have embraced these children and helped them as they grew. So sad.

Yeah.... if ever there was a case for shunning poor children it sure wouldn't be so in this instance. Vietnamese and American soldiers kids were treated the same way after Saigon fell. The communists put them out on the streets. Shameful don't even describe that....

Agreed. They were such young children who were stolen from their homes or born into a German and/or Nazi family, nothing about their lives up until the end of the war was their choice.

Yes she wascthe daughter of a German soldier and teenaged mother. After Germany lost. Her father Alfred Haase fled Norway before his daughter was even born. Her mother Synni Lyngstad was targeted by neighbors as a German collaborater. Sonny and her mother took Frida to Sweden as a baby knowing what children of German soldiers would face. It was horrible. They were ostrocized, institutionalized, experimented on, girls were raped, etc. Frida was lucky to get out. Unfortunately Her mother died when she was 2 and she discovered her father only well Into adulthood. She won't talk about it much even today.

Lebensborn was a charity organization that ran a bunch of maternity hospitals which also served as temporary homes for orphans. This was even substantiated by the Nuremberg Trials which found no wrongdoing. The myth that they were "breeding farms" began in the 1950's with the German tabloid "Revue" and reached worldwide popularity with the film "Lebensborn" (1960)

There is so much "bad" in the Lebensborn history and the many people involved with it. One of the biggest disgraces is how "adults" later treated these innocent children, even having teachers calling them (13:03) SS Bastards. I'm not sure what the meaning in Europe is, but in America, a "bastard" is reserved for males with unknown fathers, so a teacher calling a female a "bastard" makes the teacher look unintelligent to begin with.

    • @LisaCupcake

It's funny but it seems to be more of a generational thing right now. After asking quite a few people, the "older" people agreed with me and the "younger" people agreed with you.
It was only some friends and relatives and there was one exception but that's how it worked out. There are a lot of meanings of words that seem to have changed from years ago. We were raised learning that Bastard only applied to men and Bitch only applied to women.
Of course, a female dog is still referred to as a Bitch in dog world circles but we hear people use it towards men quite a bit today. Well, a lot of modern men do fit the bill BUT that's another debate, lol. Best wishes.

It's funny I recall my mother taking great offense at me being called a bastard by our neighbour in the 90s, and I'm female. I don't think it's gender restrictive, merely used to denote a child born out of wedlock. It may not *matter* as often for women, since inheritance was usually patriarchal, so the 'bastards' who often muddied the waters were men/boys, since women/girls didn't inherit.

RUclips - I am posting this using words and their actual definition, not in a derogatory fashion.
That is the correct/technical definition but the term bastard has taken on a different meaning among the general public in America. I grew up in NYC and the term bastard was reserved for male children without a known father.
As you stated, the definition in the dictionary is "any child born out of wedlock" but we have seen many commonly used words that have taken on a different meaning among the general public. The common use of the word usually doesn't match the dictionary definition.
Bitch would be an easy one that comes to mind, along with the word faggot, which used to strictly mean a bundle of sticks. The word is now used almost exclusively when describing a gay man in a negative way, at least in America.
Here is what a Google search shows - OFFENSIVE•NORTH AMERICAN
      a gay man.

I remember back in the 80s they were a big deal and all of the very tame porn that was around back then was a big deal because it was morning in America and the Conservative Christian right and the Reagan administration were all going after anyting even Playboy they were going after
I remember how big of a deal penthouse was and they really didn't show anyting but breasts
And they are owned by Hustler and Hustler was the first commercial magazine that wasn't an alternative under-the-counter and borderline illegal or completely illegal
The fact that they had women completely nude sitting with their legs spread was revolutionary
      Larry flynt is a hero
He did more for free speech in America than anyone else
We would not have been where we were in the 90s were it not for Larry flynt
Unfortunately since 2001 we started losing our freedoms and now we've lost so much freedom of speech to the point where we don't even have freedom of speech, it is really sad
And we are seeing now states banning porn just like we had back in the 70s
Still in many states most porn is not officially legal
I remember going from the adult bookstore in one city that was in one state and driving 20 minutes across the border into another state and they had basically softcore porn in the conservative state and in the liberal State they had everything
      Including water sports
Not many states allowed water sports magazines and films
      Even the fake ones
Adam and Eve made several fake enema movies
And even those were not allowed in most states
I worked at an adult bookstore and I checked out the competition across the border and I remember the first time going in and asking them where their water sports section was and everybody stopped everybody looked at me and the guy behind the counter said those are illegal
And I didn't know that I said I work across the border at an adult bookstore and we have everything and he said yeah here it's illegal all of that stuff is illegal and I was like wow that's crazy
I remember that same state had video stores open in 1983 that had maybe 50 commercial movies for rent out in front and they were 3 dollars each night when minimum wage was $3 an hour
And you had to have a credit card and you had to put down a $500 deposit for you to open an account
And you could rent a maximum of two movies
The back section we had adult films and there was maybe 200 adult films in the back and those were $5 each night maximum 2
And everybody would rent to adult films on a Friday or Saturday and we would literally have every single film rented and in the first month we doubled and by the end of 83 there were about 100 commercial films out front and over 500 in the back and literally rented out almost everyone every weekend and half each night of the week
No one in there was making less than 60k a year at a time when most people made 5k a year
A VCR cost 2 Grand back then
And very few people had a credit card
There were a lot of people that would come in and ask how they could join and when they were told they had to have a credit card and a 500 dollar deposit, they left unhappy
There were 2 VCRs that were portable that you could rent. 25 dollars a night and 1000 dollar deposit
Every once in a while you would see a college student come in and rent one for a party with 2 adult tapes
But for the most part they sat behind the counter collecting dust.
And the cameras back then were about $5,000 and I remember those were strictly the 1% that owned them
And pretty much every couple every guy that bought one of those made amateur movies of himself with his wife or himself with his girlfriends
When you think about the difference between back then when there wasn't social media and no one worried about making a movie of them self and it getting out
We were in a different world then
