The all tube w/o a doubt. And thanks for playing bits so we could actually HEAR the amp and not just another slap and pop fest like 99% of bass videos.
the ad 200 certainly sounded far more musical to my ears. having a valve power stage or class A/B rather than class D power stage is certainly the way to go.
I own the Bass terror 500...I run it through the Orange 1x15 and I play a Rickenbacker 4003..I use it for everthing...metal, country, blues, pop, funk, rock..all of it. Honestly, I don't need anything else. Portable as hell, I run it with no pedals, run it hard and gig a lot. It sounds great. Pretty sure a meteor couldn't kill it.
I've been in a band for two and a half years now and have played a lot of shows where I have had the mis-fortune of having to use the other bands bass amp, I have tried all the big brands and a few amps that you usually don't see, but I purchased the AD200b + 4x10 cab. It's the best amp I have used and now I make sure I always use my own amp, its the sound I've been after since I have been playing bass and would always recommend it. :D
A good video and an interesting comparison. I would agree that the ad200b sounds better than the terror. That said, the bass terror has an advantage as it is portable and only costs roughly 1/3 of what the ad200b costs.
For my personal opinion AD200B obviously wins in sound. If you dont need huge power then there's no reason to doubt. OFC closing eyes on price... Terror is still very good though.
Yes for the most part that is correct :) The AD200B is a killer amp IMHO, where as the terror needs a bit of tweaking anf the right valves in my experience!
i have the terror combo, and I got a 1x12 cab that suits perfect stacked. tone is amazing if you use your pedals correctly, i compress, overdrive, eq and boost; everything before hitting the preamp of the terror. dont se the need of spending 2k or more in the ad200b, in live situations with the band, the tone of the bass is more of air pushing environmental feeling, leave the pure tone for the guitars.
Talk about power. The terror bass head was gain about 5 and the master gain on about 2, so there was alot of headroom left. I couldn't really tell on the AD200B what the gain and master gain was set at. Being 200 watts was there much headroom left on the Ad200B? Thanks Rock On!
IMHO, if you want to go SS or Class D, the Bass Fat Drive is a great pedal that does the OD tube amp simulation well. It has more gain than a tube amp or a Tech 21, with a lot more low end & depth than the Sansamp.
"Maintaining the size of the original Tiny Terror, the Terror Bass is a 500 watt hybrid amplifier with a Class D solid state power section and the same preamp as our all-tube AD200B UK bass amp." Straight from the Orange website.
What's with all the competitive bassists who seem desperate to shoot down anyone else who even tries? Thanks for the video. I currently own the TB500 and love the tone compared to some other heads I tried when I went to buy it. Always wondering whether the AD200B is worth the extra investment. It's good to hear other peoples opinions but I guess the best way to know would be to head down my local guitar store and try them out. Cheers. :)
Alfie Strickland I have the Bass Terror as well. I use it for everything and it sounds great. Bummer about the bass terror...it's been discontinued...Gotta disagreed with this fella about bottom end...this amp makes everything sound huge, I've shard my rig on double or triple bills and people lust after it. Cheers man.
Before I got my ad200b I read a ton of reviews and what people had to say about it on forums. I wasn't lucky enough to try one before I bought it, so dropping that kind of cash blindly is really scary to me haha. It looks like people have had the same problem you are having. I bet once you get your new cab you will be in love! I had tried solid state and the Terror Bass was my first hybrid, so I was trying to choose between the ad200b and the Ampeg SVT-Classic.
The problem with the Terror bass is the stock valves are mismatched to the design so that they break up (as in distort) very very easily even at lower gain settings, swapping out for "cleaner" valves will give you a sound very similar to the AD200B but a bit more punchy, and bright but at the trade off of a bit less "oomph" to the sound and less clarity through the whole range
I may be way off the mark here. But I have been into guitars for a good while, but only into basses for a short time. Orange "Terror" and their "Dark Terror" for standard guitars are geared more towards the Metal and Hard Rock players. Could it be that Terror bass amp is geared for the same Metal/Hard Rock, while the AD200 is more of a "vintage" all tube type warm and smooth sound? Rather than a true A/B apples to apples comparison?
not a huge orange fan myself, but did buy a korean tiny terror and did the british glory mod, and diy'd myself. and holy crap......it almost replicates a 2204 perfectly, it barely lacked some on the low end. did a a/b on both with other guitarist, and they all want to buy my amp now. go check out the british glory mod. its no joke. cheers
Woody H I use the bass terror with the Orange 1x15. This is the best amp I've ever played...I gig regularly (no basement jamming with the computer for me), in just about every genre. This does it all. I wouldn't necessarily call it a metal amp, but it does carry a vintage kind of sound...I don't even use pedals it sounds so good, I just use my volume and tone knobs for shaping... (Rickenbacker 4003). I love it.,.it's very portable, probably bulletproof and sounds great. Cheers
ferox965 +1 also for the rick! Same here man. Bass terror 1000 for practice and small gigs. Treble on 12: mids at 9: bass dimed, active button in, gain on 2:00. Closest setting i can get it to sounding like an all tube bass head. For my big gigs i use a fender super bassman but its overkill most of the time. Should have bought the 100t. But your right about playing straight to the bass terror, got a overdrive pedal sometimes i tinker with it and doesnt sound as good as straight to the head.
It really is a perfect mix...I spoke to an Orange rep and they said that there are a lot of Rick players who love how complimentary this setup is...Glad my search was short. Cheers from Canada!
Just got the custom made cab 8x10.I think theres 2 type of people in this world ,old school tube amp sound people and a more funky ,more option type solid state people Im thinking thats me. I picked up a Fender mb 1200 head with a fender tbp 1 tube pre amp . It actually as far and sound and options go ,I hate to say it but I'm liking it better than the Orange. I gotta see ,thanks for the video
I saw that too. I wonder if AD200b users strungles with the preamp gain too. Maybe the EQ section is the same but not the gain? It would be interesting A/B it with the same bass.
so what some people say 'they have the same preamp EQ section' is wrong. Cause that would imply the AD200b distort at same preamp level as the Tiny terror? I liked the clarity I could get though when I tried it - preamp level at 1.5 ( even with 'active' switched on)
if youd crank thad ad2xx a bit im sure it would sound so much better. i owned the terror bass 1000, sounded good, got supid loud, has that dry sound like everything ive played from orange and still own. also it cuts through the mix very very well. i just like my ampegs better, especially my 70s vb4 head. but def. check out any of the orange line up if you can. they still make a really good product. cheerz
I just purchased the AD200 and am waiting on a custom made cab . Right now im playing through an SWR 6x10 and it sounds shitty.I realize the cab is gonna make a huge difference. But if you did not get an Orange what would you have gotten ,or would you have even considered getting something other than all tube ,thanks
Hi Thanks a lot for the review! I actually tried the terror bass and I really liked the dynamic of the clean sound. Didn't like overdrive tones when pushing the gain. Would you say the AD200b clean sound is similar to the Terror but better? For example, more precise and punchier? Or it's just totally different clean sound because of the tube design? It would be really cool if you could make a video of the capabilities of the AD200b EQ. Can you get really different sounds out of it? Thanks!
most clubs you play are going to run you in direct, the only time you would need the power from the AD200B would be in a studio so that you could get a better presence. but even then, if you're using any DAW, you don't need a bass rig. thats just my opinion. I played an SVT CL and I just swapped it for the Terror 500. Best decision ever.
hey bro really good shoot out, just to point a couple of things; i dont really know if your cab(4x10) has the horn switch in the back, that affects the sounds really dramatically. i know you did a good comparison the 2 of them. i own the 1000 watts and quite honest the response on highs, mids and lows are really quite defined . i tried for hours the ad 200 and quite good but i feel for musicians who wants really something on the go and not compromising the sound, the 1000 watts will do vs the 500 and mk3 also the weight on the mk3 is way too much on top of the cab weight is already heavy. terror 500 and 1000 easy to carry to any gig and terror any venue!!!!
Weight too much? Please.... And you are that defining line of being a professional musician or not. You can make music through the Terror, but anyone who is SERIOUS about their sound and tone, don't even hesitate about the AD200. It is all you'll ever need. And if you're not willing to be strong and carry around great equipment, for all who read this, you will not be successful! I hope everyone has a great day!
because its more common with jacks. Have you ever seen a cabinet with speakon that doesn´t have jacks too? :) im glad that my AD200B has jacks instead of speakon:) anyway if its a problem bring an jack to speakon adaptor :)
Lewis Saunders I have the TB1000 and SVT7, totally different. I'm using the SVT7 for my (pop)punk-rock cover band, nice allround sound, focussed on the (treble/)mids. Using the TB in my alternative rockband, with posthardcore/postgrunge influences, treble and bass focussed, sometimes a bit boomy (playing with an active bass in drop A#), but very nice amp though! The Terror bass (even the 500) seems to be louder, but they have a totally different gain stage. Why don't you test them out?
i run a terror bass 1000 with two TC Electronic 2 X12 cabs and what a great vintage sound. if you would like you can pay $1000 bucks more for the AD 200. i also have two eden 410 XLT cabs but prefer the vintage tone the 4 X 12's offer for playing rock.
That is no Problem for the amp. I am in a metal Band and i use the amp with 4x10'' + 1x15"" and a passive Sandberg Bass. Gain on 10 o clock and Master Volume on 11 o clock and you cut through the Band Sound like a Sharp and heavy sword 🤘
The Terror 500 is solid state power amp with a tube preamp which gives it nice tube tones. It is also considerably cheaper than the AD200B, however the AD200B is the full tube package with tube preamp and power amp, so gives a slightly better tone, if you like the tube warmth sound. Personally, I don't think the AD200B is worth around triple the price unless you have the cash to spend, as the difference in tone between the two is hardly noticeable. Hope I could help. :)
I never tried switching out the tubes like AttitudeCastle recommended, but I was able to get a few different good sounding tones through the Terror Bass. Thanks for watching!
Dude ,check out Dengia64 .He is an Italian bass player with a rather awsome collection of vintage basses. He plays through a an Orange AD200 and a Bergantino 6x10 cab. Tell me what you think He is awesome
I have yet to find a D class solid state bass amp that remotely compares to an all tube bass amp for warmth, tweaked over drive and back breaking weight. But A/B amps win hands down. D class sound too sterile.
Dude, that wine part, lol. There's just smth awkward to it. If you really need to drink alcohol while doing review of a distorted bass jus go with a beer. Also, you dont want to hold glass full of wine for the 'bowl' but u hold for the 'stem'. So wine doesn't warm up, thats why the glass's shaped as it is. Peace.
Sounds like a typical muddy tube bass amp. I just never hear any difference in tube bass amps. They all sound muddy and cloudy to me. Slow response and no articulation.
You're right Greg, that's a good tube amp for you, LOL. But that's why I LOVE them. The depth, sustain & feel is amazing. If you don't like warm, thick & syrupy, don't get especially a vintage tube amp. I'll always take that over clarity & articulation w a stiff, immediate response. For me tube amps are easier to play. For each their own.
The all tube w/o a doubt. And thanks for playing bits so we could actually HEAR the amp and not just another slap and pop fest like 99% of bass videos.
the ad 200 certainly sounded far more musical to my ears.

The Terror Bass is serious top quality. I use mine for everything...definitely much easier to gig with. Would rather use the AD for the studio.
Laughing at the kid who commented saying that a 50 watt marshall will make you disappear with that 200 watt orange. That thing is incredibly loud
ahhaha yeah, idiot..with 200 watts all tube you can knock down building lol
@@KeeperOfCliffsTone true, tried one of those at a music store and didn't have the balls to turn it even half way up 😅
The AD 200 wins hands down!
Interesting shootout video - thx for puttin' it up...
fine wine and bass! i find after a number of wines my amp sounds sweeter.
Nice simple comparison between amps. Cheers mate.
You can't expect an $800 class D amp to stand up to a $2400 tube head. The Terror's a good head for what it is.
Seems like the Terror has nothing on the AD.
Nice equipment, great sound!
For my personal opinion AD200B obviously wins in sound. If you dont need huge power then there's no reason to doubt. OFC closing eyes on price... Terror is still very good though.

Yes for the most part that is correct :)

lol at the guy in the background getting bored and playing on his phone at 2:33
That wine and couch combo is bugging me out
Just got the custom made cab 8x10.I think theres 2 type of people in this world ,old school tube amp sound people and a more funky ,more option type solid state people Im thinking thats me. Maybe the EQ section is the same but not the gain? It would be interesting A/B it with the same bass.
beautiful bass
nice dishes mom.
AD200B sounds way better, you're right. I'd be drinking wine too after finding out how the Terror pales in comparison.
so what some people say 'they have the same preamp EQ section' is wrong. Cause that would imply the AD200b distort at same preamp level as the Tiny terror?

Great video, no need to mention the wine part..
Which guitar did you play through these babies?
There's no contest here, as far as I'm concerned, the AD200b blows the Terror out of the water.
"This first song goes out to Uncle Ben."
I hope the MK3 was turned off when you unplugged that speaker cable
Quite a bit, but I didn't get everything at the same time. I also made some money back by selling the Terror Bass.
Where did you find the 4x10 in white??? That would look so smooth if the yea was white too!
Hi Thanks a lot for the review!
I actually tried the terror bass and I really liked the dynamic of the clean sound. Didn't like overdrive tones when pushing the gain.

Thanks!
The ad200b mk3 is a monster!!
Great comparison man. The AD200 sounds AWESOME :)
That was a great video dude! I have a Terror Bass, and I'm pretty happy with it. But your Ad 200 is awesome! Cheers for the wine!
This guy has great taste , Orange gear and red wine !
Have you had a chance to use the terror bass with an active eq pick up? If so, can you rack the low end up a notch without damage to the tubes?
I used a bass I got through USA Custom Guitars with Lindy Fralin P/J pickups.
Thanks Spiderman!
The AD200B doesn't have Speakon outputs??
But it is, why would a SPEAKER, have an XLR instead of a Speakon...
most clubs you play are going to run you in direct, the only time you would need the power from the AD200B would be in a studio so that you could get a better presence. but even then, if you're using any DAW, you don't need a bass rig. thats just my opinion. I played an SVT CL and I just swapped it for the Terror 500. Best decision ever.
wow that's a serious swap there
Lol any DAW eliminates the need of a bass rig when recording? Are you dumb? Yes. You're dumb.
thanks Matt :) rock on!!
Could you make a Video with a guitar and a fuzzpedal ? ... many bassamps were great für stonerrock... maybe this one too ...
I will for sure!!
hey bro really good shoot out, just to point a couple of things; i dont really know if your cab(4x10) has the horn switch in the back, that affects the sounds really dramatically.

Is it really that hard to adjust the input gain while you record so that clipping won't occur?
because its more common with jacks. Have you ever seen a cabinet with speakon that doesn´t have jacks too? :) im glad that my AD200B has jacks instead of speakon:) anyway if its a problem bring an jack to speakon adaptor :)
The ad200b seems cleaner.
Can't make my mind up between a Ampeg Svt 7 or the orange terror 500 ? Most likely going to be going through a Ampeg cab SVT 410HLF any suggestions ?
Lewis Saunders I have the TB1000 and SVT7, totally different. I'm using the SVT7 for my (pop)punk-rock cover band, nice allround sound, focussed on the (treble/)mids. Using the TB in my alternative rockband, with posthardcore/postgrunge influences, treble and bass focussed, sometimes a bit boomy (playing with an active bass in drop A#), but very nice amp though! The Terror bass (even the 500) seems to be louder, but they have a totally different gain stage. Why don't you test them out?
Joren De Mesmaeker Thanks for the information, yeah i gathered the easiest way is to test them both out down a music store. Cheers!
The AD200b is clearly richer fuller more organic there both fantastic heads though but the all tube wins and will every time
i run a terror bass 1000 with two TC Electronic 2 X12 cabs and what a great vintage sound. if you would like you can pay $1000 bucks more for the AD 200. i also have two eden 410 XLT cabs but prefer the vintage tone the 4 X 12's offer for playing rock.
Can i get tabs for 2:40? sounds really nice.
good job toby mcguire
Literally thought exactly the same 1 second in! xD Good review though.
I seriously don't get, why...WHY the ad200b mk3 doesn't have speakon outputs!
Don't ever drink a glass of wine bigger than your head.
What is the song @ 2:39 or is it just a random one he's wingin? Pretty basic riff but still it sounds tight, can anyone tell me would appreciate it :D
AD200 mk3 is more refined and articulate. Winn Dixie has 10% off all Merlot wines- very classy...
I love the sound of the AD200B but I'm just not sure 200W would be enough to cut through a metal band
Bro it’s loooooooouuuuuuuuud. I have one and mannnnn it’s loud
That is no Problem for the amp. I am in a metal Band and i use the amp with 4x10'' + 1x15"" and a passive Sandberg Bass. Gain on 10 o clock and Master Volume on 11 o clock and you cut through the Band Sound like a Sharp and heavy sword 🤘
the orange terror bass 500 hav tubes? which one is better? im interested in get a bass head :) thanks for your coments
Daniel Newberry Thanks man ;)
or for about 400 check out the bugera bvp 5500. 4 12ax7 tube preamp and solid state power
I still haven't seen a good demo of the AD200 then.
I never tried switching out the tubes like AttitudeCastle recommended, but I was able to get a few different good sounding tones through the Terror Bass. Thanks for watching!
The 🍷 wine cracked me up
Brian Fitzgerald I’m saying. I started rollin when I saw that. Lmao
Orange bass amp is good and good sound !...
See you at school im gonna talk to you about this video
dude great demo but what the fuck is it with reamping and chilling on your phone, aren't you thrilled to PLAY these things?! 😂🤦🏽♂️
What the hell are you going to do with only 200 watts? A 50 watt Marshall will make you disappear.
Matt its too loud , nice amps but too much with a not so great bass guitar.
Thanks , take it easy with the juice.
You are my teacher im ramiza
1.27 - this doens't look like a SPEAKON input, more like a XLR-input
"WITH A PICK!"
Dude. How much did that tele set you back?
everything at 12 except the volume which is on 1
HAHAHAHAh the wine
I have to go and build a better bass amp. These don't do it for me.
shit, what a difference
"I think the AD is worth the extra money for sure" Well of course, your parents bought everything for you lol
For each their own.
is this guy serious? everything is so distorted
Now I know why these things AREN'T selling. They sound like shit.
depends on what you want to play...in my case ad200b is a God's amplifier
Mark Bass is where its at.
Uh...yah, they do. And they are WAY, WAY overpriced.
BreathDoctor I have the bass terror 500w with the orange obc 115. Kicks like a mule, sounds huge. And it can take a beating.
Lee plays through whatever the Sponsor says, asswipe. Not too smart, are you?
Men don't drink wine.....
