  • I put together a video comparing the Catalinbread Echorec to their Belle Epoch pedal. Each pedal is amazing in their own right so I wanted to show the differences between them.

    I think it's very important when testing a delay effect is to remove all the ambient effects such as reverb.

      I'm on the fence about what to get, a Wampler Faux Tape Echo v2 or Catalinbread Belle Epoch, which are similar pedals, but the Adineko sounds super cool too (which is quite a bit of a different sound).

    • @guitarplayer2846
      @guitarplayer2846 6 лет назад +2

      Shred5, I had the same problem. I ordered the Wampler, the Belle Epoche, an Echoplex, and Memory Man from Guitar Center for a 30 day trial. After 10 hours with each, the Bell Epoch stood head and shoulders above the others. The Catalinbread Echorec is next on my list

    • @guitarplayer2846
      @guitarplayer2846 6 лет назад +4

      Note: 1) The Belle Epoche's preamp wasn't emphasized enough. It nails the tone of the original EP3. 2) For me, Belle Epoche is an "always on" pedal because of its preamp so dollar-for-dollar, it's a better first purchase, 3) Get the Echorec later for the times that you want nail the 'spacey' Pink Floyd sound, 4) although the modulation in the Belle let's you get very close to the PF sound.

      You have to pick both because that was absolutely the worst demo for those 2 pedals ever made holy crap dude if thats what you use them for you might want to take up freakin basket weaving., pathetic ass demo.

    So... I'm generally not one of those people who advocates adding 13 different delays generally, either a digital delay or a tape delay (like the Belle Epoch) generally does the trick, but the Echorec with its percussive delays is a great argument to add a second. I think I need both.

    so I'd say the difference is:
    Echorec = ethereal, dreamlike, "Cocteau Twins"-esque waviness and some spacey sounds with lots of what seem like presets
    Belle Epoch = late 90's psychedelic grunge, like Blur's "13" with perfectly nauseating warble and weird distortion
    I prefer the Belle Epoch because of it seems more personal

    I have a Belle Epoch. It is everything that it is promoted to be. Don't be fooled by all the analog noisy craziness that it CAN do. It is designed to be and IS a very musical pedal, JUST like an Echoplex, without the hassle of the tape. I use mine on the 'clean' side of my rig, and it is nothing but amazingly beautiful and musical. But, from the quality and tone of this pedal, I would be lying if I said that I don't also want an Echorec also...:-)

    I look at these two delays as David Gilmour or Tommy Bollin. If you don’t know what I mean check out Quadrant 4 (Epoch/Bollin) and Echoes (Echorec/Floyd). I’d say the Epoch for messing with the rate/speed of the delay and the Echorec for the distance/time of the delay if that makes sense. Eventually I’ll want both and combine them.

      Which did you choose I'm having the same conflict?

    • @jasongood5527
      @jasongood5527 8 лет назад +1

      +Lance Keltner I went with the Belle first and also run an EQD Ghost Echo so I can combine the delay and reverb effects separately when/where I need them. I would still like to get the Dispatch Master at some point for times when you need BOTH reverb and delay all in one foot stomp. Another pedal that you may want to check into is the Keeley Caverns. It has delay and reverb in the same pedal, but each function has it's own dedicated foot switch. Happy hunting!

    • @jasongood5527
      @jasongood5527 8 лет назад +1

      +Lance Keltner One feature that I REALLY like about the Belle is that it has a few mini switches inside that you can adjust the gain of the effect when switched on, almost like a mini "boost" function when the pedal is engaged. There is also another switch inside that allows your delays to trail off naturally as the delay effect decays rather than cut flat out when you hit the switch to turn the effect off. I believe this is called "tails mode"

      Hey Derek, My opinion is for more classic rock, led zepplin-y stuff I would go with the Belle Epoch - more Gilmour-ish and experimental go with the echorec. Again this is strictly my opinion you really need to try them both out for yourself. Thanks!

    Question, were you running them at 9 or 18 volts, I have the Echorec, thinking of getting the Belle Epoch, the only other one I want to get is the Black Fountain made by Old Blood Noise endeavors, if you haven't seen it you should check that one out as well. The Black Fountain and the Belle Epoch are the same price, sooner or later I plan to own them both, just a matter of which one to buy first.

    • @philstjohn2826

    • @Stasisofseasons
      @Stasisofseasons 9 лет назад

      I just got the Belle Epoch, so I got both it and the Echorec, so far I've been utilizing them quite different. The Echorec is obviously darker and spacier, the belle epoch a bit brighter sounding, but very versatile as well!! I think the belle epoch only does 800 milliseconds and the echorec does a 1000 milliseconds. The head thing on the Echorec really changes the sound depending on what you have it on. I prefer the Echorec myself. But both are amazing pedals!!!

  • @destossel

    How do you use these musically within the confines of a song ? I hear a lot of neat sounds but Im not feeling these.

    • @markpappas
      @markpappas  9 лет назад

      doug stossel all depends on the type of music you are playing. I can keep the echorec on playing much more down tempo pink floyd-ish or ambient stuff - just do not keep the mix high. The belle epoche is an always on pedal for me just to add a slight bit of analog delay - it is barely noticeable but gives my signal a lot of space/depth. it is also cool to set one of these to do some crazy modulated repat and kick it on on the last note of a measure before going into some sort of break
