- If you're anything like me, music hits you all at once - like a big wave rolling over you.
In order to learn to make better music, it's important to sit down and pay analytical attention to all the different parts of our favourite music. To give them names. To list them.
That way, in time, we discover which musical techniques we want to take away to use in our own music.
In this video we take such a closer look at Hell on Earth by KAS:ST. It's rolling apocalyptic techno with a sweet and melancholic vibe.

Everybody loves the underdog, because nobody has heart like the underdog!
you analyzed the most deep and powerful song ever in techno... it does have a message and we all are touched by that i believe.. this is a next level song :)
Yesss
sounds pretty shitty to me man. check this: ruclips.net/video/mOiYNuxXCUY/видео.html
@@humphrex Sounds pretty generic and kinda trashy to me man. Check this ruclips.net/video/2ZIpFytCSVc/видео.html
i still listen to it even after 4 years of enjoyment, nothing beats that song in the train at night or on a long car ride through the dark.
@@djestoussaint8968 in the train at night, eyes closed is the best mate!! Still play it a couple of times a month! What an timeless banger!
The angry man vocal sample it's from Network (1976) film
Amazing format! Not making music, but this is one of my favorite songs and it was super interesting to get a deeper look into it. Sub deserved! You should defo continue this format
Ahhh, great to see some love for the format! Am considering making more in the near future!
one of my favorite techno songs on my favorite techno album, thanks for doing this :)
On of the best techno album too !
The Album is a masterpiece! Nothing touches it!
Between Ipotocaticac's "Le Grand Accelerateur" and "Machine Vs Wild," and KASST's " Hell on Earth" you've basically listed off my all-time favorite tracks that give me goosebumps every single time I listen to them without fail. Hell on Earth is nothing short of worship music to me.
Always great to read that :)
Wow that was an amazing breakdown of such a great track! 5:30 I love this, "going from happy to melancholic", I've never heard it being described like that and it's one of my favourite harmonic styles but never knew how to describe it.
The voice sample is from the movie Network (1976) I used also that voice in my track Addiction II that released in 2018
You should know background of this track as well to fully understand it, as they said they produced this track in 2 days after a very emotional gig in KHIDI, this is for sure a massive track and thank you for such an explanation.
Once again killer video, I find it super hard to analyse songs by active listening. Will download your template and give it a go!
Yeah, I find it hard myself! I get lost in thought, stop paying attention, or don't see the forest for the trees, as they say :D so this exercise helps a lot!
This is my favourite track of all times, listened like 700 times last year
I was just randomly going through Kas:st videos and checked this one, okay? And seen Hell on Earth is analyzed made me felt like attacked. This is sacred song for most of us. I hope you don't get me wrong, I appreciate your work with all respect. It just felt very wrong very deep in my heart.
I've loved this track for a while, so brilliant.
this track has one of my favorite music videos of all time
Thank you for being so inspiring! I have a classical formation and didn't where to start. Your content is exactly what I needed, clear and structured, thank you!
Absolutely new to this, like it how you atomized the track into nano particles. Usually I just listen to music but this way makes it really interesting. Very nice and informative video. Greetings from Germany, stay safe !
one of my all time favorite songs !! thanks so much for this analysis, i am always too hyped to listen carefully ^^
Thank you, hope more people find this channel👍✌
One sub at a time, it's like a roleplaying game grind 🧙♂️

An absolute belter this is, takes me right back to old times, the video, everything 👌👌💯
Incredible way to learn how to make techno, always wanted to be able to analyse and understand my favorite tracks
This is impressive. Also, what a blessing that we are able to fully enjoy it without any analysis as well. :)
Thank you very much, it's so educative
Thanxs man love the explenation of the track , greetings from belgium 💯👌💣
great analysis! I'm not really into techno but this song has a huge impact to me and i really like it. Thank you for this video, really enjoyed it
Great video👍
Waiting for a new track analysis series!
Again a great lesson how to analyze a track. Thx Oscar!
Great channel mate, loving the content :)
great video, going to implement that form to analyse tracks. Thank you! Would love to see you break down, or even better make a similar track from Gijensu called Year 5050
Excellent !!!!!!!
Amazing track analysis!
Your videos are all very interessant, but this is a step ahead. Thank you.
super useful!!
amazing analysis! please do more
Great analysis !
I got goosebumps listening to what you said. kas:st is different type of musicians... they will glow up oneday
More videos like this i loved it
Great video, amazing track. Would love to see a tutorial on how to make this kind of brass pad. It feels so immersive and wide, guess it got a lot of movement or chorus?
I loved this analysis. Tom Glass - Naive is something I'm trying to analyze myself atm. It's insane how well made that track feels.
Sweet video, love the detail, cheers!!
Cheers Cushty!
I love this choon ...
Damn, you're the kind of teacher that I was always looking for :o
I remember the moment I realised I loved techno (not the specific genre referred to here, but as a broader sense to collect all subgenres/variations). I was 8 years old and heard Here's Johnny for the first time on Australian national radio, and it blew my mind, but I remember intuitively picking up the progression of multiple layers being introduced over time, taken out, and being brought all back at once. I felt like I'd picked up on something other people hadn't. There are people out there who can't stand any techno/edm and I think a lot of this has to do with their inability (or reluctance) to give the music time to progress, fall and rise, and they just hear 8 bars and go ""its just repeating itself" etc. I've learned to enjoy this process in so many different styles now that it's a thrill finding the nuance elements that go into song that seemingly sounds all like one piece.
Exelent
Very useful technique, will have to give it a shot :)
Thanks! I find it deceptively simple/effective. Depends a bit on people's learning style :)
best music ever
Thank you Oscar.
Anyone: that "splash" - is it basically a fast attack, fast release pink noise stab? My understanding of a splash (those little physical cymbals) is with a noticeably longer release tail. Just curious how people describe these elements so I can better communicate to other musicians.
this song has feel reminds me of my teens drugs beers partys it was good but yes now the world is torn that is a superior track the vocals i have heard in hardstyle before.
Please do another one, Oscar 💎
I love this video you should more
Will definitely do more, they are helpful exercises for the school :)

Great video! Really changes perception of the track
Is it possible for You to make an analysis of one of Rene Wise tracks?
Especially those heavier groovy stuff like "Changa" or "Raptors"
136BPM “on the fast side of techno” haha, how times have changed
Love it bro!
Can you do You Are Your Own Destruction by Kasst?
What a great song to analyze. Such a simple track, yet powerful!
Thank you for taking the time and sharing this awesome analysis!
P.S. The angry man message is in fact a quote from an all-time favorite film of mine *Network (1976)*
_Extremely relevant to the entire message behind the song, and the on-going dilemma we continue to face today..._
It's called acid techno but super nice analysis one of my fav tracks
Can you do VTOPIA? by KAS:ST aswell.
this is my favorite song of kas:st and insomnia✨🎶
Hey could you do track analysis for Jacidorex - Trave, such a fine production
Can you make a short on how to design the rave arp please?
The profound message of this song is that human life has value :)
Excellent break of the track, this channel never let me down
the sample is from Syney Lumet's Network, taken in context it makes the sample resonate with quite another message.
@@LeDore38 Finally someone says it. Should be its own comment tbh.
Still waiting for next track analysis!
Think you could do a Shpongle track? Some can be sample-heavy, but the modulation can be wild. In a single listen I can follow along "okay, this waveform, that filter, this synth, etc." And then I can end up with just "what?" XD
Even some Tipper tracks would be great too. Though he does walkthroughs of some of his tracks, it'd be nice to hear your take.
