Maestro, nice to hear you again. Anthony is a very special soul, and musical spirit. He was one of my thesis advisors 20 years ago and I'm happy to know he is still contributing his uniqueness and creativity. There is no "opposition", man!
Great interview, I could have spent 60 minutes. Books on Braxton are great but it's also fun to hear it straight from him. I need to get his Tri-Axiom books.
Here is the quagmire! When picasso takes ideas from African art and assimilates it then it remains European art. When an African learns from Europe it becomes universal. This is why we don't own any of our land. It should be fine for blackness to be universal. Coltrane made universal black music. Infact all African cultures are syncretic.
Masauko : Hit a fresh with transparent elucidation. You have got a point; haven't you. I adore it. When "NATIVE" Africans were kidnapped ( raped and massacred ) from Africa, they were ( by the European capitalists) re-branded a mixture of chemical compounds - "black", a color; a thing, not the ethnicity African. Generations of Africans have accepted this pseudonym and are thus on the very threshold of losing possession of, not land, but of an entire CONTINENT - A F R I C A. What a quagmire! What a surrender of "Africanness" ( in preference of an inanimate item - a thing )!
