...Mr. Braxton's assertion of a desire to follow art not as an economic way of life but as the simple, entirely human and entirely non-abstract will to see what the hell happens next can only inspire. Happy birthday, Mr. B, and thanks for giving me a brain and a soul again and again and again...
Thank you so much for this interview. I'm a great admirer of Mr. Braxton and I was also highly influenced by freer/creative music. But to hear musicians of your caliber speak so highly of many unsung heroes of music is an absolute blessing. It gives me a great deal of hope for my own creative journey as a improvisational musician. Great thanks Peace
thx for this important interview! saw you both together with crispell and dresser in the mid 80ies at *konfrontationen* in nickelsdorf, austria, europe as a youngster. 🙂
Found this by accident - so wonderful! I saw the Braxton "Classic Quartet" several times, most notably that string of dates at the Knitting Factory in the early 90s. Transcendent. If you guys ever did a reunion tour you KNOW it would be tectonic! Anyways, brilliant interview, better than most, haha! Two guys who don't need to patronize the audience. :). FYI I would LOVE to do a bio on Anthiny's music someday...
yeah because wynton is a narrow-minded, uncreative, neoconservative who denounces any music that can't make him any money and isn't connected to his concept of what 'essence' is (swing/new-orleans/blues)
One of the best interviews on music I've ever seen.
Quite a treasure, this interview. Thanks, Gerry!
Anthony Braxton is a creative force to the earth
whether channeling Stockhausen or Rahsaan or Bartok or Brubeck.
I've just finished reading the Graham Locke book!
my life have changer after reading that!

Wow, Anthony Braxton is a genius. I feel as if I was meant to find this interview, this is synchronicity. I found him when I most needed him. Amazing.

I think the Coltrane/Taylor record they mentioned was called Coltrane Time.
It was released as Coltrane Time (red cover with John Coltrane on it) and Hard Driving Jazz (Jaguar convertible on the cover)
Coltrane Time = Hard Driving Jazz (blue Jag convertible on cover)

Wynton Marsalis hates the music of Braxton!

@@kevinmiller124 Marsalis produces jazz for audiences who dislike real jazz.
Winton hates something, cool might be great Stuff Then.
@@erikheddergott5514 I hated him when I heard his dreadful first album Hot House Flowers. Even the name of it is stupid!!!
