Pretty awesome man. I did something similar a month or two ago. I got an old record player and ripped the guts out also and rebuilt it using Spanish cedar and ebony and gave it to my son. I was pretty proud of the way it turned out,but the best part was that it actually worked. No electronics were harmed.
How about the thermal conductivity of the wood? :D It needs a cooling system other wise, soon the PC will not work anymore and your wife will kick you out of the house. :) Have a good day. It is an amazing craft work. Loved it and envy!

I'm so curious what the thermals look like on this thing under sustained load. One of the design elements of Macs is that the aluminum bodies act as giant heat sinks and radiators, dispersing heat unexpectedly efficiently away from the electronic components.

Mate! Project fatigue is real! You are most definitely NOT alone. Having the deadline of birthday wouldn't give you time to split time across other projects, either, which is how I manage my "neurospicy" project fatigue.
He can sell it and it would be legal. There was a business called Modbook that modified and sold MacBooks, they went down because they miss managed their money but they never faced any legal issues cause the first purchase makes this no different than selling your used items

13:05 set out to make a Mac, accidentally made an old Xbox instead. Looks really good! I need more wood in my home, so a new PC case with wood details was a must. I have an idea for the back panel if you decide to revisit this, or any other project with curved areas. I've printed beer holders that you hang on door handles. It was for my neighbour and I surprised him every now and then. I printed the part flat, but it in a jig that I've made that had a hinge, covered the part that was not supposed to bend and blew a heat gun on it, then bent it, kinda like bending sheet metal. You could print your back panel flat, make a solid block of wood with the bend for it to sit in, heat it up and press a matching piece of wood over it then let it cool.

I spotted an old Rolleiflex or Rolleicord in the box with the mac mini. It’s a pretty valuable camera, so you might wanna store it somewhere more safely...
But why the 15:33 monitor with the window behind? You cannot open the window and it is quite annoying the light from outside in sunny days (do you have sunny days in Sweden?) ..
So I like the idea of the e7q I've tried a lot of sit stand desks and they always have wobble. That desk looks like it solves that problem. I appreciate what you did with the mac mini especially since I know myself and my solution would have been veneer.
Very cool techniques. As for your comment on the 'project fatigue', I can relate to this very much. For me it is related to my ADHD, you tend to visualize the whole project in your head already, after which your brain feels as if it has done the entire project already and has to do it a second time, but you started it now, so you force yourself to end the project as well, which causes you to feel tired by a project you feel like you've already completed and there are multiple projects in your head already that seem way more excited (because novelty releases dopamine, which people with ADHD lack). There isn't really a fix that I know of, except that I sometimes work on two (and ONLY two) projects at the same time so that when one is starting to feel boring I can 'procrastinate' by doing the other project until my brain gets excited enough to work on the first one. Not trying to diagnose you with anything, just giving tips since some tactics are useful for all flavors of humans.

You did an excellent job mate! For similar projects, my 50c advice: make wooden parts simpler, and print all cradles for components in some tough plastic. No one sees the inside of the case anyway :)
I love this project. The only thing I would change is turninf the monitor 90 degrees to the window. Bright light through the window can create monitor viewing problems and possibly cataracts in the eyes.

yea I use a 2012 mac mini, slapped 16 gigs in there and a SSD, works great (its not my main machine but its my shop PC so it actually gets used almost as much) The downside is intel graphcis, and Mac OS stopped support at like 10.15 ...
Right! They´re really good. There is a thing you can do to upgrade the OS further but there are some risks involved and usually not everything works after wards - but I might try it out. It's not Apple supported though - but it seems to work
Cool computer! Project fatigue is real. I am a computer scientist. And when I was learning computing, I had all kind of projects. I didn't finish most of them for the reason you described. Eventually I have solved all the problem to make the project happen. And the only remaining thing is to sustain effort. And that point the project wasn't quite as interesting anymore. To fight that, what I try to do these days (in both woodworking and in computer working) is that I try to have no project that can't be delivered in more than 6 days of work. Ideally 2 or 4. That way, I can do them in less than 3 week ends and be done. Since the time frame is shorter it is less likely that boredom will setup. If I have larger project, I try to cut in stages that are useful on their own. And each stage should be no more than 6 days of work. This way I can do the first stage, have a useful thing and shelve the upgrades for later if I don't want to get on it at the moment.
I love it! I think it would have been a nice touch to throw some LEDs behind the logo so it lights up when you turn the computer on. Another option would be to engrave your logo into some polished brass.
Really liked this video. The wooden pc is a great upgrade to the Mac. One question though, are you worried at all about needing some type of venting. If you did could it be on the bottom. Please, this is in no way meant in a bad way, as this makes it wanting to be seen, it is really nice looking and your logo is cool.
thanks! there is some ventilation in the back panel - the fan points to the back panel where it goes out. Initially the plan was to carve small vent holes on the sides as well - but I never went through with it because of looks. But I will have to see over time what happens
Since it's not for sale it really shouldn't matter if you put the Apple logo on there but all these big companies think that they can just use the copyright system to do whatever they want so I don't blame you.

I’ve started laser focusing on projects, just doing nothing but that, so I can finish by sheer momentum before I get the drive to stop and start something else. But it’s been a problem with my Kickstarter TTRPG. It got well past the part where it’s ‘fun’ and has been dragging for years.

A Mac's aluminum chassis is part of the cooling system for the computer's components. Have you supplemented the cooling in another way? Other than that, it turned out so nice.
If you wanted to give it a new look why didn't you just make veneer out of the walnut? By the way, the aluminium might help with heat dissipation (I'm not sure).
I have one of the i7 2012 mac mini's in my shop, it never gets turned off and I have seen the air temp reach 109 (or 43c) out there. Fun thing is nothing in the computer actually contacts the aluminum body to act as a heat sink, its all handled by that little fan he almost murdered at the beginning. Now here in Tennessee, which in the southeast USA and on the 35th parallel along with our "greatest friends" in the middle east, south Korea and Japan ... During August the case will heat soak and start to radiate , and it will start thermal throttling ... but still works fine. So in Sweden in a house, its fine!
