I've seen McCartney as one of the top few (and quite possibly the best) vocalist since all the way back to his Beatles days. He can sing so beautifully... with a tenderness and the soft delicate touch of a butterfly's wing... or he can blow you away with the power and gravel throated force of a hurricane. He can sing any style... to near perfection. The fact that he recorded "I'm Down" and then right after that recorded "Yesterday" (as well as "I've Just Seen A Face") on the same day (June 14th, 1965)... shows his spectacular versatility as a vocalist.
Agree, Paul's vocal abilities in the 60ies to 90ies are unmatched, he can sing it all from Long Tall Sally to Little Willow - not to speak of him as one of the greatest composers - a d fine player on at least 4 different instruments.
Paul McCartney IS ONE OF THE ABSOLUTE GREATEST ROCK SINGERS EVER! I absolutely love this song, and let me tell you being there when Wings actually performed it, they rocked the house! I also love the album version with its very cool acoustic intro.
So cool that you've played with Laurence Juber. He did such a great job with the late 1970s Wings band. Love the video of him and Denny playing echoing guitars (and then his sort of Spanish guitar solo in the middle of the song) in the "Goodnight Tonight" video: ruclips.net/video/tbKjMVcB7No/видео.html Also love that little bit of hair they have coming down on Denny's forehead in that video. It is such a fun video. Besides being a member of Wings for their 1979 album ("Back To The Egg")... Laurence also played on Ringo's 1981 album - but, humorously, they mis-spelled his name on the album sleeve as "Laurence Tuber".
Laurence and his wife are really the sweetest people. Her name is Hope. She was on the Brady Bunch back in the day. Their daughter is a super talented songwriter. She has a ton of hits. Look her up
There’s an even better version of this on RUclips, from a different performance on the tour. The version from the Blu-ray. His vocal is even more insane. I recommend you check it out. Possibly the best vocal performance ever!
Loved your facial expressions during the song - and then your comments about Paul's vocal performance after the song. "What... what... How do you sing like that..... and then sing 'Silly Love Songs'..? It boggles my mind. This guy's inhuman sometimes. Good lord! Just so much energy, too. Wow! This is crazy."
Another great example of Paul's tremendous vocal abilities and versatility can be seen (or heard) by listening to these two songs that follow each other on the White Album: "Why Don't We Do It in The Road?" and "I Will". I also recommend checking out how he still had that ability to sing a screamer late in his career. His vocal on songs like "Long Tall Sally" from the early 60s... can still be heard in a track like "Nothing Too Much Just Out Of Sight" from his 2008 album "Electric Arguments". Listen to his vocal on that song from 2008: ruclips.net/video/0mOgDiNN2Uc/видео.html
Dude, unbelievable how manic his voice is. These are my favorite kind of vocalists. I'm always drawn to rock vocalists like Danny Elfman(Oingo Boingo), Scott Weiland(Stone Temple Pilots), Mike Patton(Faith No More), Kurt Cobain(Nirvana), Matt Bellamy(Muse), Jeff Buckley, Freddie Mercury(Queen) and of course Paul McCartney who use a variety of voices and characters to create their art. There are tons of others that I dig but these are just a few. Lennon had a similar approach but McCartney really took it to a more virtuosic level. The only new singer I've heard that's doing this sort of thing is that guy Conor Mason from Nothing But Thieves. That kid is unbelievable in ability. So much dynamic in his voice. This is a session they recently did at Abbey Road Studios. So nice!! ruclips.net/video/8irM5QFkr6Q/видео.html
Really good analysis, Paul's vocals are under appreciated compared to his composing and instrumental skills, so I'm glad you are highlighting them. I really like the studio version of this song, but this live version takes it to another level. It really shows the power of Wings as a live band.
Wow, forgot about this song! Good one! It's been a number of years since hearing this album, nice to hear it again. Paul at his gritty best. I don't care for the Silly Love Song side of him too much
Paul is truly the man of a thousand voices.

Steven Tyler has said he learned how to scream like that from listening to McCartney.
who learned it from Little Richard who learned it from...
@@maybeimamazedtribute yup, lol
@@maybeimamazedtribute Richard had multiple influences of course, but I'm going to go with Clara Mae Ward.
the studio version is bonham, but this version is very heavy
The studio version IS NOT BONHAM!
It was JOE ENGLISH on all of WINGS AT THE SPEED OF SOUND!
Who's got the proof?
Who killed it??
