Great reaction! You're on point with John being a poet. He was gifted with the mastery of wordplay. Their producer, George Martin had said that John is one of the greatest Rock and Roll voices. Strangely enough, John notoriously hated his own voice. Check out The Beatles "In My Life", their cover of Chuck Berry's "Rock and Roll Music" with John on vocals and John Lennon's "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night".
You are absolutely correct. A phenomenon that only occurs once in a lifetime. They were and still the number one band to ever exist. Their catalog, for such a short time, will be unmeasurable.
Good for you Stan. Your taste in music has grown, and without a doubt reflects mine as well. The Beatles were the reason that music changed into this unbelievable sound's of perfection. These were the times of our lives.
It’s difficult to appreciate “Revolution” fifty years beyond it’s release because we’re so far beyond that moment in history. In 1968 it was an anti-call to arms, now, it’s just a track off the album. Context is everything.
Anti-call to arms is a great description. Unfortunately, at the time, a lot of people couldn’t get past the title and assumed the opposite: that Lennon advocated revolution. They really missed the point.
John was one of the GREAT Rock-n-roll singers, period. John was the artist and founder. He was the edge and IMHO, the best of them. Paul was perhaps the best musician and most prolific with a great vocal range. George was the spiritual one and turned into an equal songwriter to the dynamic duo. And when they ditched Pete Best and added Ringo, they discovered the glue that amalgamated The Beatles' untarnishable legacy. Have you heard 'Hey Bulldog?" I highly recommend the video.
Paul was and is a massive Little Richard fan and it comes out all over the Beatles music. Individually the Beatles love Motown. All Motown. Also, Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson and many many more.
I listened to almost nothing but The Beatles 1 album for months on end, whenever I was in my truck, all the way up until I got my first iPhone. I never got tired of it. I had other CDs, I just really enjoyed the Beatles and never wanted to swap out for a different CD of someone else. 😉😉
Hard to believe now but I first had this on 45 rpm with Hey Jude on one side and Revolution on the other. I think I paid $1.49, which was a 50 cent increase over other popular 45s at the time. Wish I still had it. Good reaction, Stan. Thank you.
Ah, the old days. I remember a concert I went to….It was for Cream and I went to their concert at the Sam Houston Coliseum on October 24th 1968. I kept a news article from The Houston Chronicle that says tickets were available for the show, and prices were $3, $4, $5, and $6 and available at Houston TicketMaster locations. This is absolutely true. I wish prices were still the same.
I had that 45 RPM record, too. I also remember buying the white album (which included “Revolution #1,” the slow version of this song) on the day it was released, then hitchhiking to a friend's house where we sat and listened to the whole thing for the first time. Great memories. It was a great time to be a teenager with artists like the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Simon and Garfunkel, the Who, The Beach Boys and so many more.
Bought the vinyl when this came out ... wore it out. Then wore out another set. Also bought and wore out cassettes and CD's later on. I have never tired of the Beatles.
Beautiful reaction ! Muito inteligente , seu comentário explicou muito bem a "alma " dos Beatles . Havia e há " algo " inexplicável entre eles . Quatro garotos simples de Liverpool resolvem formar uma banda e com talento mudam a música no mundo. Eternos ! Hugs......Abraços desde São Paulo - Brasil .
Great comment on John! Arguably he finally completed his tribute to Chuck Berry's rhythm guitar on the Ballad of John and Yoko. Jimi Hendrix once said that he preferred John's guitar playing to Eric Clapton because he played rhythm and lead - although Hendrix was probably commenting more on his own brilliant playing of rhythm and lead...
G'day mate. That was Groot and great! Great song. hah! Responding to the last respodee, I am 54 and just missed out on the whole 'fab' thing. Fortunately I have a mother with Irish ancestry and a voice for song. She made the kitchen a dance floor!
A great interview is when John was asked if he could do anything, what would it be: "To play guitar like B.B. King." When B.B. read the interview (Guitar Magazine I think, he said, "I nearly fell out of my chair!" Later, a mutual friend arranged a call for them. And Lennon played live with Chuck Berry performing, "Johnny B. Good" on the Mike Douglas Show (find on RUclips).
Fun reaction and wise words at the end as always. I really love this and I would say that it just seems so modern for the time. That blistering distortion on the guitar and that full spectrum sound that's really piercing and biting at the top but still packs a huge punch at the bottom. Wow. More Beatles! 😂😂
this was the b-side to "hey jude." another double sided a-side classic single from the beatles. there's actually 3 versions of the song. side 3 of the white album has john's "slowed down" version. it has 50's style "doo-wops" added to it. the single is a sped up version without the "doo-wops." and this video version is the sped up version with "doo-wops" added. and the strange thing is all versions are EXCELLENT! the white album is a classic that must be heard by every music lover. its the best r&r album ever produced. thanks for the video

I didn't watch Monday Night Football on December 8th, 1980, so I didn't hear Howard Cosell's announcement. Somehow our family missed it. Or if my parents heard about it they didn't tell me or my sister that night. I found out Tuesday morning at school John Lennon was dead. Of course this was about ten weeks after John Bonham died. Pretty devastating way to start HS.
OK for the live version, a promo clip they started doing instead of touring, combines the fast tempo of the single and the background shoo-be-doobies of the slower album version.
"John's mic is sh*t" ... I laugh every time I see that in the clip. John also says "out - in" when he talks about destruction. Only the vocals are live, by the way. This was the summer of 1968, there were hundreds upon hundreds of protests and riots throughout the world.
What I liked about this back in the 60s as people were really starting to get a little violent well quite a bit violent. Lennon comes out with this against violent he got a lot of flack from some of the radicals at the time. But I really liked it I said I thought it set the right tone for the time. And not to be violent and this was mostly written by John Lennon as most of you know of course the Beatles always do their part
This is actually the second version of this song released by the lads. There is a slower, acoustic version on the White Album. It might be fun to listen to both versions in the same reaction. Compare and contrast. Which one did you like best? Why? Why are there two versions? I know the answer to the last question. John wanted to release the first version as a single. Paul didn't think it rocked enough. John said, "Challenge accepted." Or, words to the effect. Was Paul right?
I lived through this era and was well aware of how some people took the protest movement a little too far. That's why I loved this song so much, especially the lines: But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Here's Nico and Vinz performing their song "In Your Arms" live on the Norwegian television program "Senkveld": ruclips.net/video/doR-LVYYWXU/видео.htmlsi=OiBvv8eWtMHV35bh
Just do All Things Must Pass, the full album, 50th anniversary edition. Of course we don’t expect you to listen to ever single take or demo version of the songs, but you can look around and find out which versions are the best, or just stick to the original 19 tracks.
I used to have Lennon's In His Own Write and A Spaniard in the Works in one volume. Then my daughter stole it. It was a collection of free form verse and cartoons. Anybody who thinks his creativity had anything to do with drugs needs to read it. The books were written long before that phase. 🧓😎🎸🧠
I once had an autographed copy of that book. John was at Syracuse U one day for an art exhibit. My brother, a student there, asked John if he would sign it. He did, and my brother gave it to me. I was only a little girl at the time, but he knew how infatuated I was with the Beatles, told me to hang on to it. "One day you'll understand," he said. Sadly, a few years later, it was lost in a move to another house. What I wouldn't give to have it now.😢
I'm 72 and I have said this to many people over the years: there's The Beatles then there's everyone else!
Iam 70 I feel ya
I couldn't agree with you more about John Lennon: He was a poet and an absolutely riveting singer!
Absolutely fantastic. The Beatles were God’s gift to Earth.
Ha did not know you were so religious. I have to agree with you though.
We all though they singing to just you. We thought they were ours and were willing to share them.
@@johndavids4780 Yes we did. We never wanted it to end.
Jonn Lennon said, " If you want to give Rock and Roll another name
you could just call it Chuck Berry." John's voice rules !
No auto tune or computer special effects, just raw powerful live voice and instruments playing. Just like the song itself.
The most honest voice in rock.
Great reaction! You're on point with John being a poet. He was gifted with the mastery of wordplay. Their producer, George Martin had said that John is one of the greatest Rock and Roll voices. Strangely enough, John notoriously hated his own voice. Stan, you explained the Beatles perfectly.
You are absolutely correct. A phenomenon that only occurs once in a lifetime. They were and still the number one band to ever exist. Their catalog, for such a short time, will be unmeasurable.
What's hard to fully appreciate is that they had so much astoundingly great material that this was the B-side of the single (to Hey Jude).
🔥🔥🔥🔥 FIRE! Definitely one of my favorite Beatles songs
I love Johns voice!!!
The Beatles just keep getting better.
Your reaction is on point.👏👏 Love the Beatles. 😎☮️
The Beatles were so inspiring to me. I was 13 in 1963 and they inspired to have a solid career in music.
Good for you Stan. Your taste in music has grown, and without a doubt reflects mine as well. The Beatles were the reason that music changed into this unbelievable sound's of perfection. These were the times of our lives.
The Beatles were one of the few groups that ever said anything. The songs were meaningful and I admire that about them.
At :47 seconds George turns to Paul and says “John’s mic sucks.”
It’s difficult to appreciate “Revolution” fifty years beyond it’s release because we’re so far beyond that moment in history. In 1968 it was an anti-call to arms, now, it’s just a track off the album. Context is everything.

Lennon was quite the wordsmith🤘❤️

The Beatles were definitely inspired and influenced by American music 🎶 I concur young man! 😽🎶
Hard to believe now but I first had this on 45 rpm with Hey Jude on one side and Revolution on the other. I think I paid $1.49, which was a 50 cent increase over other popular 45s at the time. Wish I still had it.

Me too.

Can't resist paraphrasing Samuel Johnson: "He who is tired of the Beatles is tired of life." 🤨
Can't you see, it's the chemistry
You really must agree
Together they were beautiful
You are very perceptive to understand how much they were a group.
And how important each members contribution was.
Thank you for acknowledging John’s talent and legacy. Totally a huge Chuck Berry fan, as were Mick and Keith of The Rolling Stones. ❤
AWESOME then.. still AWESOME TODAY

Great reaction Stan! Ive been enjoying the Beatles since about '75 as a kid, and the learning and amazement never ends😊
"These four guys were destined to be together." - Yep, you get it. 🎶💕
You can hear Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Buddy Holly and other 50s rock n roll guitar players in their music. They were a big influence on the Beatles.
Really love your reviews....keep up the GREAT work.....thanks
That's Billy Preston on the organ but he's not on stage with him on this performance
Preston isn't in this track. Nicky Hopkins and McCartney share the keyboard-parts in Revolution.
John Lennon personifies cool. Enjoyed your reaction. 👌

Hi Stan, you could check out Oh Darling by the Beatles 😊
Thank you for your great commentary. Much appreciated.
They all loved Chuck Berry, you should see Jimmy Page face light up when looking at chuck's guitar.
Johnny Blaze 🔥 ❤

Chuck Berry was the most literate of the first generation rock and rollers.

Strangly Lennon was a Ramones fan ... There's old pics of him in a T wit leather jacket n such
Love the Beatles since 1963. Tough during the JFK murder but more than obvious the greatest band of all time.

❤Happy New Year Stan🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 can you react to Aaron Neville " Tell It Like It Is"
Billy Preston on the keys?
Buddy Holly was a big influence for John Lennon.
I think in the Beatles John Lennon had a great rock voice, but Paul McCartney had the real rock 'n roll voice.
makws he Stones, in the same peiod, sound totally lame - great video, mate!
Careful who you attribute words to.
