Go back and watch even the straight comics from the 1980-90's and how women are talked about that would not fly today. Gay comics during the 1980's was one fo the few ways we could fight back and have a disguised voice during AIDS. For 10 years a entire age had to think seriously if even having sex was safe and was that hook up worth dying over? Comedy gave us a safe place to be a little out outside of strict gay safe places. Remember it took until 1987 before Reagan and the CDC started tracking AIDS deaths, no anti-virals back then. Many Lesbians had to carry the torch until in the mid, late 1990's when the Madison Ave and rich white men decided it was ok to promote lesbians because straight men love to fetish lesbians. Ugh a gross time to be a fem looking lesbians because suddenly all the straight men wanted 3 ways then and were aggressive about it. Out male comics only in the past 10-15 years were given more exposure and even now it is hindered. comedy Central did have some good gay specials late 1990-2000's.
I’m not a huge stand up comedy fan but of the few I’ve seen I have consistently enjoyed everything Hannah Gadsby and Tig Notaro have done
I loved this program! So many great names, and so much good information! I watched it a second time with my wife.
Comedy Central's "Out There" and "Out There II": So very, very long ago.
Mae Martin is a fantastic queer Canadian comedian. You can see her on Last One Laughing Canada and also enjoy Colin Mochrie and other Canadian comics.
A Netflix special is not just a bench mark. It gives comeidans the chance to get fans around the world and actually tour the world.
Moms Mabley was one-of-a-kind: unapologetic, unique for her day, and FUNNY!!!
This looks interesting! Wanna check it out
I adore Suzy Izzard. Her comedy is perfect for how my ADHD brain works ❤
Engagement for the engagement god!
