I’m really glad you made this, I just had to do this for my mk3. There were no videos on it and I found a really old forum that had instructions. It’s actually really easy taking the whole box in and out. 2 hours and you have a brand new shifter
I have everything in my cart from Urotuning except for those bushings. Do you have a part number by any chance? Can't seem to find them on there. Nice videos! I am working on a 92 Corrado
the cotter pin that you took off from in the box (male piece into the female piece of the shift cable...could you show a better shot of it? i have a B&M short shifter that the bolt comes loose and there is no cotter pin on the male piece so it comes apart randomly while driving. NGP installed it so ive never seen it. but im hoping with a closer look i may be able to remedy it.
Honestly the 02A shifter, even after a refresh, is junk compared to an 02J shifter tower and shifter. Upgrading to the 02J shifter assembly is one of the most satisfying mods I've done to my mk2 VR6. Pair the 02J shifter with a dieselgeek bushing kit and sigma shifter is the ONLY way to go IMO.
Dieselgeek sells an upgraded bushing kit for the 02A shifter assembly now. www.dieselgeek.com/collections/vw-shifter-bushings/products/02a-cabin-side-bushing-set-for-1992-1999-mk3-and-mk4-cars
Jakob Kerr Ah, yeah. Already have the Polo housing and 02J shifter for my TDi box. Pairing it with a K03S-charged AEB. Should be a solid daily build. XD
can you send a link of the parts that you used to rebuild the gear shifter
That's a major benefit of the 02J shifter. About half the moving parts to rebuild when you have to replace bushings. XD
Nice job with both your rebuild and video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

Also it’s fine if that little lockout tab breaks, you can slide a tiny bolt in one of the holes and use it

I just typed 95 cabrio Mk3 short shifter kit. And it came up

Christian you should look into the shift tower upgrade from USRT!

Hay bro. When u do that does it shorten ur shift?
Under your awesome headliner fabric do you still have foam underneath that or just the fabric what do you recommend?
Awesome video lot's of good to knows, off topic but have you done an auto to manual swap on mk3 before
Totally of subject but what kind of clips do you use on the top 2 parts of the mirror cover on door panels?
Dana Dandridge the little triangles? There should be inserts in the door but they sometimes come out with the trim when you remove it.
More videos like this please!
How do I get the box and cables out on my 95

Wish I seen this 3 months ago. But it wasn’t hard building it at all
Chenj kabl lembiriyaj polo isens 1.4 16v 2001
Why no 02j?
Jakob Kerr Probably because he already has the 02A. Plus a VR6 02J has shorter gear ratios, meaning higher fuel consumption at most speeds.
Robert Saphir no the shift tower not the whole trans. It's a common upgrade
Robert Saphir plus Mk3 02a gears are way too long anyways.
