  • It's the third Friday in July so it's time for another episode of Kazoo Fridays. This week, I compared 3 popular kazoos: plastic (about $.80 each), aluminum (about $2 each), and Woodman/wooden (about $10 each). Which one do you like best?

It seemed the aluminum is the loudest and clearest while the plastic’s sound is more scattered(?) or scratchy? The wooden one is my favorite. I got my wooden and aluminum kazoos online and it’s cheap. I still haven’t tried the plastic one.

Thanks for watching. The aluminum kazoo definitely has the clearest buzz. They're all great in different ways I think.

They all sounded good in their own way, just like us guitar players we need the Gibson,Fender, Ibanez and so on for their own sound for the right song

Indeed. Every instrument has it's place. Thanks for watching Gary.

I'm so glad it was helpful! I make these videos hoping they are helpful to someone. It's good to hear when they are.

How do you clean the wooden kazoo? Do you run it under warm soapy water

That is an excellent question. There are no cleaning instructions in the box. I would imagine what you suggested would work but I'm always nervous about soaking wood. I'd probably suggest cleaning it with compressed air - either an air compressor or a can of duster. Thanks for watching.

I have a video in queue about kazoo reeds in general (but not specific to the Woodman). I think it will help though. I should have it posted within the next couple weeks.

The cheap one! All the way more volume us old fat guys like volume even in our kazoos probably a song there

I agree with ya. The plastic kazoo has the most full sound. Though the metal one sounds more like a classic kazoo.

If you want volume, there are some brass ones around the 30 dollar mark that incorporate horns.
