It's wonderful to see an adolescent being gently guided by her thoughtful parents, to access the depths of herself to become so articulate and poised. Watching this, it strikes me how many children do not get such parental support. Maddie is a lucky (and wonderful) young lady, and you are both doing a quality job.

A very good review, I enjoyed it.
I however do believe Rachel and Anne loved each other, there was a very moving scene where Rachel was talking to Anne through the door and saying that love is honesty and will say she looks like a Badger if need be, and will not call her a beautiful angel. Anne says prior to this "why can't you love me like her?", in a way Abigail was used in this twisted triangle, Anne felt unloved and we can see her trying to make her jealous. I don't think it was mere loneliness, between both of them. We know relationships can be difficult with depression, you mentioned her being insecure etc. Oh my, you are so right, its all so complex!
Anyways, in the end they all lost due to this game playing.

I'll say this about it being classed as a comedy. I laughed more watching it than most comedies but because it also has incredible drama and depth it makes it hard to just class it as a comedy. It's definitely a dark comedy but putting it up against other comedies is very conflicting because of how brilliant it is in mixing dark comedy with great drama. It's also a stunning looking film and those performances are terrific.

Saw it this week! And it is probably one of the best movies I've seen in a long time! I loved the cinematography, the locations, the costumes, it's just amazing! Also I loved the witty dialogue and it was quite refreshing to hear the C word be used multiple times without having the shock horror they just said the c word. It's a tough call both Rachel and Emma are up for supporting actresses in the BAFTAs which is really annoying because they both deserve the award, Olivia will win it hands down as she's up for lead!

Totally agree... Olivia Colman's performance was stunning in every way. The film was beautifully shot and the attention to detail in the costume design was outstanding....did you notice the women's costumes were monochrome throughout the film?

All the cast were so indescribably amazing, Emma Stone stood out for me in particular - I hope she isn't snubbed at the Oscars as well as she and others were at the Golden Globes.

In fear of repeating myself another I wished to see from first trailer viewing, and after I'd seen Olivia interviewed on Graham Norton that was just reinforced. Now having seen this review, again you've just reinforced that wish.

You also say 'twat' brilliantly, all you Brits! In Canada it's pronounced 'twoht' and it's NOT as effective. Britain, I humbly bow to your profanity.

This was possibly the STRANGEST movie I've ever seen. My friend and I turned to each other after about a half hour and said "what the HELL are we watching?!" We didn't really like anything about it -- and we went into it as massive Olivia Colman fans! MAYBE because we didn't realize that it was a "true" story... but we weren't happy with the style of the whole thing (fish eye lens, distortion, etc.) We were expecting something more like "The Crown" and that's not what this is! Ha! xx

@@sawalhaadderleys I don't know if I could put myself through that again! Maybe in a couple years time! 😕 I did really like Mary, Queen of Scots which I saw a couple days before this one! xx
