Did not expect you to react to this film so positively! I avoided it for similar reasons to you. I also avoided it because I was disappointed with Blake Lively’s behaviour around the promotion of this film. I’m pleased to hear that it was actually made quite well though.
I completely agree with everything you’ve said in the review Mark. I reluctantly went this afternoon with my married daughters-(they wanted to go!)who are also new mums. 70-I gave it😮
Mark, I haven't seen this film yet. Although I have read the book that I enjoyed, the press reviews put me off, but after hearing your thoughts about it, I will definitely go and see it, as you have restored my faith in it 👍
Ian and I we read the book and we loved the book. We were worried about whether we should see the film as whether it would live up to the book. After your fab review Mark we hope to see this film. Thank you Mark😊
A really good review! I definitely want to watch the film after your review. I have read the book and I found the cliches quite difficult. Having witnessed an abusive relationship I can say that how the book and film have portrayed abuse does seem to be how it is. (In my experience.) Gradual, almost explainable but not acceptable.
Thank you for appreciating the film! I watched with my friend who left an emotionally abusive relationship which was on the way to becoming physically violent and she felt that the confusion of that situation was portrayed really well in the film. I think the reason for it being promoted the way it was is that they wanted to focus on the female character being more than just a victim. However, do agree that it’s not been handled brilliantly.
Thank you for your review!!! I enjoyed the movie and the ending was spot on. I felt The press haven’t been kind to Blake Lively. She has said she didn’t play the role from experience simply acted the role.
I thought it was clever the way it held back then showed.. and you saw the small signs at the start which make you think, then more and finally the whole truth. The cheesy parts and huge coincidences didn’t put me off. Loved the way the actor played the ex - he just knew - the way they looked into each others eyes. Parts eg the florist were almost dreamy. Differently done. Please I saw it.
I’ve not seen it yet but I believe it covers some less common issues around domestic abuse - such as the charm and charisma of some abusers. Would be interested to hear Nadia’s take if she ever watches it
I read both books and really enjoyed them. However, I really hated the ending! I don’t know if I could watch the movie after being disappointed at the end of the story 🤔 Great review Mark 👍

I thought the same Mark,I thought it was a romantic Romcom,I thought it was very good but the press made it out to be something else.

Yep the charm and the charisma is exactly what it covers
@@sawalhaadderleys so pleased you thought it was done well and that it
shows a different more insidious side to dv (shame about the promo issues)
Cant stand Blake shes coming off as really really horrible.
